With more than 90 years experience in the refrigerator manufacturing industry, General Electric (GE) refrigerators are a well known trusted brand. This popular brand with its wide range of refrigerator models are easily recognisable and known to be reliable. However, like all appliances, they can develop the odd problem.
If you need to reset your GE refrigerator and are not sure of the correct way to do it, keep reading. In this article we’ll give you all the information you’ll need to successfully reset your GE refrigerator. And explain what any error code your refrigerator might be displaying means.
Most GE refrigerators don’t have a reset button as such, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be reset. To reset your GE refrigerator follow the advice of our refrigerator expert below.
The first stage in the process of resetting your GE refrigerator is to remove its power. To do this either unplug the power cord from the wall socket or switch the circuit breaker off. After around 5 to 10 minutes, reconnect the power and turn the wall socket on, you should hear the refrigerator start up.
Then open the freezer and locate the shut off switch, turn it off and allow at least one minute to pass before turning it back on. Finally, find the ice maker shut off which is usually located at the top of the ice maker. Push the ice maker shut off up and down and repeat three times, your GE refrigerator is now reset.
To reset the temperature on a GE Profile refrigerator, just press the temperature button on the control panel, this will get you into self-diagnostic mode. Once both refrigerator and freezer temperature control displays are displayed, set them both to “5”.
Then press and hold all four of the temperature adjustment buttons for 3 to 5 seconds, you’ll then notice “0” flash on the display screen. As soon as you see the “0” on the screen, press “1” and “5” this will reset your appliance.
To reset the compressor on your GE refrigerator, remove it from mains power by unplugging it or switching the circuit breaker off. Wait for around 10 to 15 minutes, then reconnect the power, don’t worry if the compressor doesn’t kick in immediately, it may have already accumulated enough pressure which it will need to dump before it starts, to avoid damage.
Smart fridges have self-diagnostic systems that will display an error code if they detect a fault. While it’s not always possible to effect a repair yourself, it’s useful to understand what that code signifies. Below is a list of common GE error codes and what they are used to signify.
To remove an error code from the display of your GE refrigerator select and press the system check button. This will clear the error code from the screen. If the code reappears, this would imply there is a problem that needs dealing with.
If it is beyond your level of competence and safety, we suggest you call in an electrical engineer to diagnose and repair your refrigerator. Never tamper with anything electrical unless you are certain it is safe to do so.
Not every code displayed on your GE refrigerator is an error code. Some are just normal operating codes, it might be helpful for you to familiarise yourself with these to avoid any unnecessary concern.
These are standard functions and nothing to worry about. However, if you see any of the error codes displayed instead of these, and they won’t clear, contact an engineer.
After a power outage the display will be showing “88” to reset this just press the energy saving button and the alarm light button simultaneously and hold for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds you will hear a beep and the display panel will be reset.
To reset the temperature on a GE French door refrigerator use the touch screen temperature display panel for the fridge and tap the pad until your desired temperature is reached. Be aware the setting control only goes in one direction so you may have to go way past where you want to be before it returns to low temps again.
To reset the control board on a GE refrigerator just remove the refrigerator from the power supply by removing the plug or turning the circuit breaker off. Allow 5 to 10 minutes and then reconnect the power.
To reset a GE side by side refrigerator press and hold the energy saver and alarm light buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. You will hear a beep when the 10 seconds are up, release the buttons and the refrigerator is reset.
After a two hour power outage, my GE refrigerator front panel, light, water, ice are not lit up or working. Freezer is not staying at freezing temp and the refrigerator is cool but not cold. I have unplug for several minutes that didn’t reset it. Have tried numerous combinations of buttons on front, even though manual doesn’t tell me which one to use. Even turned off ice machine and back on. Any other suggestions without having to call a repairman. My serial number is GSHF3KGZBB
Daewoo model DRX31B3S display panel has 4 horizontal indicator light illuminated (so power is on the panel) and I cannot set anything, fridge freezer doesnt work, checked fan using 12dc battery charger and it works 290 ohms resistance on defrost heater, no internal lights either in the fridge or freezer are on.
I have an LG refrigerator LFX28977SB/00, The cooling and freezer are working just as they should. However the ice maker and ice/water dispenser does not work. also the display is blank and the light on the dispenser stays on. I have tried all the reset suggestions but nothing works. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
Hello. I have a GE Profile side by side that quit with out any warning. Both mother board and temp control board replaced but still no life. What do you suggest for the next step? I do have lights inside, nothing else. My model # is PSS26LSRCSS
I cleaned the outside door by spraying it with 409 Cleaner. Right afterward, the control panel for the water dispenser/ice maker/temperature control/light etc. stopped working. No lights were on and nothing would dispense. There did appear to be liquid behind the front covering.
I unplugged the fridge multiple times after trying these things to attempt to reset and that didn’t work. After reading some tips, I held my fingers on multiple functions at the same time in an attempt to reset but that didn’t work. So, I’m not at a loss. I’m hoping you can provide instructions or information that I can use to try to fix it before calling a technician out.
I have a whirlpool refrigerator model #gi5svaxvlo1/ sn#ko1911535. Unfortunately my wife and I went out of town for almost two days and we left our refrigerator door ajar. The door alarm light was the only light on on our control panel. I’ve tried resetting the control panel but this website isn’t showing results for whirlpool models. Do you have any suggestions on what and how to fix our blank display panel?
Exact same thing happened to us after a cleaning, except it didn’t appear to have any moisture behind the panel but that’s the only thing that makes sense. Still not working 6 months later after several attempts to unplug, reset, etc.
Hello, My GE French Door Refrigerator new in 2012 Model GFSL6KKYELS has an issue with the front control panel. It has lights but does not respond to touches. Sometime it will respond and afterward temp setting automatically change themselves and the power cooler but keeps coming on and lowering the fridge temp to 29 or 30 eventhough it is set at 38. I have reset the power several times and still have same issues. I used the auto diagnostics by holding down the energy saver and alarm button for 8 seconds and get an N2 code at the freezer temp reading and an A8 code at the fridge temp reading. Please help. Thanks
After a power cut off and back again, my fridge ( samsung AW3-14/AW4-4D), shows an error PC ER , I checked the wire harnes at the upper left corner , unplug and plug again after power off , and then power on again , same issue, tried to reset at first it gave me 41 ER , and after another reset now its showing 0C 0C , both temperatures shows zero value and the fridge still not working ., please help.me in this urgently . Many thanks in advance .
Maytag MFT2976AEM O3 refrigerator has recently started shutting on and off and will blink with the red “power outage” alarm and “replace filter” alarm.
The alarm goes off about every 15 min, the fridge itself doesn’t turn off the light stays on but it sounds like it stops cooling and the freezer is making a loud noise like its having some issues.
Everything in my freezer is thawed so I assume that’s part of the issue but my wife has had it unplugged all night because it was keeping everyone awake.
Maytag MFT2976AEM O3 refrigerator has recently started shutting on and off and will blink with the red “power outage” alarm and “replace filter” alarm
We had a power outage for a couple hours and when power came back on the light inside the fridge works but the control panel is blank and fridge has not kicked on again. I unugged it and replugged in the same outlet and a different outlet but still the same. This is a side by side GE GSH25JFXN WW. Thank you!
My refregerator Samsung model RS51K57807S control panel showing code 5C AND the control panel always on , its not same before working for few seconds then it will go to energy saving mode.
NOTE: THE REFREGERATOR WORKING PROPERLY AND BY HOLDING POWER FREEZE AND POWER COOL WILL FIX THE ERROR 5C WHILE THE REFREGERATOR CONECTED TO THE ELECTRICITY.
Sometimes its start running and fridge becomes ok, cold is good but after 6 hrs when the compressor turns off (defrost cycle i think), the fan continues turning but the compressor run again and everything defrosts completely in the fridge.
I have a GE GSL25JFTA BS there have been power outages here over the last few years and there has never been a problem with the refrigerator or freezer. However, the last three times the refrigerator and freezer lights come on inside but it is not cooling or freezing and the front panel is blank. The last two times it started working again on its own but this time I cannot get it to. I have turned off the power, unplugged it and still nothing. HELP! I am retired and on a fixed income and cannot afford a new one or repair bills.
I have a Samsung RS261M. It is constantly going out. Which reset action should I use? I unplugged it a while ago and then it was stuck on 1 bar. I was going to give up on the darn thing and then it suddenly started working again even though the buttons were not working. Now it’s not cooling again.
Issue: After the power outage, the fridge has stopped cooling properly. The LED display isnt showing any information properly…it is like a partial value getting displayed which is not correct. We turned off and switched the fridge back on.The display shows all values and goes off again. The service team says that the display is gone and nothing can happen..either use the fridge like this or sell it.
Pressing the “Freezer -” button which should turn on everything to start both compartments cooling again only makes a short sound similar the “+” sign button but then I hear a small pop or clap and then nothing including fridge cooling.
Although the Touch Screen does not stay on… if I press any button I get all LED light up but they are I guess zeroes or all the bars inside lighting like an “8”.
What is popping or clapping right near the Touch Screen that I might fix or is there some other combination of buttons to push to get it running again?
For a couple of weeks the fridge has kept switching from Farenheit to Celsius. We noticed that the fridge and freezer have been too cold (frozen veggies, eggs in the back etc)
Now the fridge light and display turn off. Still cold/frozen, but no ice produced. No power outages that I know of, but I did have to reset the clock on my microwave? I have turned circuit breaker off for 10 min. And on. No change. I can push the on button and the light/controls do start (we can get water), but it turns off again eventually.
I’ve pushed various buttons for 8-10 seconds. I just tried turning on quick cool, and it’s staying on longer as I type. But it’s -6 and 34 degrees already. Then changes back to Celsius reading.
I had a refurbished circuit board put in in April (it wasn’t controling the fan any longer). I don’t want to purchase a new fridge. Is it related? Help appreciated!
Maytag model#MF12269VEM7. Had a power outage and front panel light up when pressing any key at the beginning and stop lighting up few min after. I hear motor trying to start and beeping for few second. Sometime it run for 2 second and shuts off again. Is there something I can do to fix that?
My Samsung (RF28K9070SR/AA) is working, control panel works but on normal operation the temp status display no longer stays on. Stopped after a storm/loss of power. Is there a procedure to keep temperature indicators illuminated?
I usually hold down the freezer and refrigerator buttons at the same type in order to reset it but when i do so it does not change. I unplugged the refrigerator but it is displays -21 for the freezer and 20 for the fridge and I cannot get it to change to the right temperature
My whirlpool freezer door display is not working properly. It will only show us the lock icon. We have tried holding the lock button to unlock it and it will not do anything. Is there a way to reset or what do i need to try?
I have a whirlpool gold that doesnt run. at all, and the dispenser screen is blank. Till you hit any button and all lights come on including three zeros for refrigerator and freezer –having replaced the circuit board behind this display it does nothing –just the same situation given the fact that it lights up all buttons s, till you release -it’s hard to believe it’s the main board it’s also hard to believe it’s the touch panel cuz everytime you hit any button it does respond the same way..model gifsaxvy01 whirlp.
Frigidaire Gallery FGHB2844LEG was giving a SY EF error. Changed out the Evaporative Fan Motor and Fan still wouldn’t work. Changed the Main Control Board in the bottom. Now my display on the door after plugging it back up only shows the factory temp for a few seconds then goes blank. All the soft buttons works except the temp. Can you help with this. I have unplugged it and left unplugged for 10 minutes and still the same factory temp then goes blank. Turned the unit off on control panel and left off for 10 minutes and still nothing. Could my new control board in the bottom of the unit be bad? Part #24211539 Board Main Power.
My GE fridge model GSH25JSTC SS display panel won’t turn on after a power outage. This happened a couple of months ago and I randomly pushed some buttons and the display turned back on. I cannot remember which buttons I pushed. Can you help me? Lights in fridge are on. Display panel off. Fridge not cooling.
You can attempt to unplug the fridge and dissasemble the front panel and check to see if the wire harness has become disconnected on the touch pad panel.
We just purchased a Samsung flex zone 4 door refrigerator (rf28k9070sg/aa). We have it hooked up and it is running ok, everything cold as it should be. The only problem is the display panel is saying our freezer is 80 degrees and the fridge is 79. I tried to do a reset on it which turned the panel off then back on. Upon turning on, the temps still show the same. Any suggestions?
I have a Maytag model MFI2568AEW. The Fridge and freezer is working but the interior light and the control panel is blank. I tried every code I can find. I unplugged it and I reset the breaker, nothing works. The only lights I can get to come in is if i push and hold the door alarm button the light will come on and say “F_C”. And the other screen has the degree circle and can switch from C to F also but I can’t choose either of them. PLZ HELP.
After a lightning storm and power outage, my KitchenAid refrigerator (ksso42ftx04) display panel was not working and the fridge was making a slight clicking noise. I shut it off and turned it back on but the fridge would not come back on.
I have a Jenn-air JFC2089WEM side-by-side refrigerator. I just changed the water filter and am now having a problem getting my refrig temp back to 38. It is at 44. How do I reset?

I have KitchenAid kfis25xvms2. following a 1.5 day power outage and being on backup generator, the fridge has flashing lights on the lock and light display and does not appear to be cooling. Yes power back on when problem started. is this likely something to do with the panel or the run capacitor ap6023677
We just replaced the board that controls the Freezer defrost- once all was replaced and plugged back up the display is not working Kenmore 10672009010 French door.
I plugged it in yesterday and it began to get cold (freezer anyway) immediately. The only light on the panel was for the water filter (which I had replaced earlier in the day). Press and held, nothing. Light stays on. I ran a couple of quarts or so of water thru the dispenser. A couple of hours later I noticed the light was off. But the fridge wasn’t cooling either. And water isn’t dispensing. Lights on inside. I unplugged the unit. This morning I went nosing around the back after reading online. Removed the panel over the control board and a cup of water drained out! (Literally a cup, I captured it.
Before I found the control board, I was assuming the evaporate fan motor was out since the fridge side wasn’t working. Is it possible the control board can be saved? Any ideas?
After a power outage, my Whirlpool Gold standard MODEL: GI5FSAXVY01 refrigerator has stopped working. The fridge is not cooling and I do not hear any noises however, the lights are on and when I press a button on the control panel all lights illuminate. When I press the ice or water button an alarm goes off continuously until I remove my hand. I have tried unplugging the fridge and tripping the breaker.
Hi there i have a sumsung side by side fridge/freezer model RSJ1KERS it flash small dot something like half 1 on the freezer side on panel and on displaying panel of fridge side its blank and the condessor fan motor does not run because of that my fridge is not working someone can help me please…
My frigidaire model fghc 2331 pffaa froze up the back of the freezer so we unplugged it defrosted it got new filters plugged it back in and now our display panel won’t come on…how do we fix it?
After I plugged the unit in after replacing a evap fan motor, the display on the ice control panel keeps turning on, displaying “GE” and shutting off, restarting display and looping over and over.
I have a Samsung RS263TDRS and the lighting is only working on the top portion of the panel. The lights for ice, water and filter do not light up, although they do dispense.
Maytag MFF2558FEZ need help.. the panel is just showing a line in both the freezer and fridge panel. The lights are on but its not cooling how can I reset it
We had a power outage recently. After power came back, our Maytag refrigerator control panel on the door went dark. Even though the interior lights were working, but the compressor and circulating fan motors were not working. Ice dispenser was not working either. I had tried to unplugged the power core for several min. and plugged back in. I checked the internet and follow some suggestions to do manual reset. That was not working. However, I did notice that about 5 min after the power core was plugged back in, the fridge control panel display came back. But it came back for only a few seconds. Then the control panel went dark again. At that point I gave up and started to move all the food out of the fridge. The fridge was still plugged in. About 12 hours after the power outage incident, the fridge started working again. All the display came back, ice dispenser was working, and all the motors were running. The fridge apparently wakes up after 12 hours in coma caused by the power outage. I would like to hear if someone can tell me how the Maytag self reset logic works.
Question 3: Why would “faulty relay or cap in the back bottom” prevent the the front control and display from not working properly or at least stay illuminated without holding any button down?
If this is what it’s doing do you know how to get out of this precheck mode or do you know where I can link to a schematic to test different signals from ECU?
Refrigerator Series Parts Model GSL25JFXNLB The control panel is not working and we cannot control the cooling therefore the refrigerator is not cooling and nothing works but the lights. The refrigerator has been sitting without being used for about 2 years.
No bad spots – Be sure to make notes of how many wires are in each harness and their positions on the board ON PAPER BEFORE YOU UNPLUG THEM one by one.
I did this to resolve a freezer not defrosting problem, it appears the control board had a “Timer” in it that “Reset” by unplugging the wiring harnesses.
I have a Samsung French door refrigerator with Flex Zone drawer. The light display is “stuck”. The lighting, cubed ice and filter displays are on but stuck. No other lights will come on. Filter is beeping and driving me crazy! Refrigerator is “built-in” and I cannot move it!
I own a GE Profile, model# PFSS6PKXESS. The control panel for going on the past month has had a mind of its own. An audible alarm rising jingle, then descending jingle goes off on the control panel. When this happens, the LOCK goes on and off along with the ICE function on and off sometimes for a few seconds by itself. Temperatures are not displayed and the water filter sometimes makes a sound when trying to reset the filter (Which is odd, because since my water is already filtered before the fridge, I am using the GE Plug that came with the unit instead of a filter) Recently, the control panel was completely unresponsive to touching anything other than LOCK. Once I heard the jingle go off again, I then attempted to use the control panel and only then did it allow me to switch Iced cubed, Ice crushed or water. Does the control panel need replaced?
I have an Amanda side by side refrigerator/freezer. We have not used the fridge for a while and now we have switched it on the motor comes on and both the fridge and freezer are getting cold but the control panel is just flashing and will not respond to any buttons we push, there is no beep when we press the buttons. We have switched the fridge off because we are worried it will get too cold. How can we get the control panel to work properly. Thanks
My GE Monogram Refrigerator EIS 360 display panel shows 5555 for both the fridge and freezer after power outage, but cooling for both sides are working.
We have a whirlpool gold series refrig with freezer in bottom. Power outage today and control panel is blank. It will light up with pressing any button but will not reset. Refrig and freezer still works but cannot use water and ice dispensers. Tried all combos listed previously. Any other suggestions? Please help!!!
Since I had multiple issues with my Whirlpool gold GC5SHEXNS00, (e.g. condenser fan, evap. fan and damper all acting strange or not working) I just replaced ALL four relays and the C32 capacitor on the control board. All those components are now working correctly, the freezer is cold and the refrigerator is catching up. HOWEVER now I don’t have power to the water dispenser and freezer lights (I am guessing ice maker too). Since there is no schematic I was wondering if you (or anyone else here) knows which wire bundle and which relay on the control board powers these items. Thanks much.
I have exactly the same problem. By turning the power on-off I can get the fridge lights to come on intermittently and the fridge seems to work fine.
I forgot to add that my Defrost still doesn’t seem to be working although I have checked the heater and it is fine…..I actually hooked up the heater to 110V and defrosted the fridge….just have to make sure that one doesn’t leave it on “too” long as it will get red hot and this is probably “too hot!!”
GE Fridge model GFSS6KKX sounded like a lawn mower. Noise stops when door is open. Noise coming from Fridge (upper) not from below ( condenser) . I suspect problem with evaporator fan. There was a puddle under the draws which hasn’t re-occurred in the past 10 days. Bought new Fridge but noise stopped before delivery. Fridge unplugged when moved to garage. Diagnostic codes displayed was segment 3 flashing. What does that mean for this model? Holding two top buttons did reset display and I was able to lock the ice maker since there is no water line available. Fridge seems to be working but does not display temperature nor can I change the settings. The fridge is 8 years old.
Just tried to unplug the ref and left it 30 min. Plugged back in all OK but no display panel nor any beeps when I press any of the buttons. Is there a combination of buttons to be pushed for this model?
If the display panel is going haywire and beeping for no reason and the buttons do not respond, then yes you may need to replace the control board or display board.
If there is a problem with the display I suggest you first check that the wiring to the PCB of the display is not broken. The wiring is routed over the top of the door beneath a removable plastic panel, and then over the top door hinge. The repeated opening and closing of the door puts a strain on the wires and breaks them……at least it did on my Kenwood fridge freezer. A replacement wire can be obtained from ‘espares’ for about £15, and the replacement can be fitted in less than 10 minutes.
NOTE:Turning cooling off does not disconnect power to the refrigerator. The interior lights will turn off if either compartment door is open for more than 10 minutes. Simply close and open the door to turn on the interior lights.
Maytag model number mfi2569yem0, all lights on the display board light up when you push any button then goes back dark, the lights inside work, the ice chute opens when you power the unit back up, i have unplugged for 10 minutes and plugged back in, it is not running, fridge and freezer are hot.
I have a GE hotpoint refrigerator. After a power outage my temperature control display is blank. Also the compressor and fan are not working the model number is HSM25GFTSA.
LG fridge/freezer model LRFD25850. Display panel does not light at all. I cannot do a reset because none of the buttons work. The fridge is too cold, freezing food. Inside lights work. We replaced the display board and back control panel but that’s not the problem.
If you have replaced the display board and the main control board at the back of your LG Refrigerator, then recheck that you have the wiring harnesses secure and in the right position.
We are having the same issue with the LG LRFD25850ST and we cant find a replacment part for the dispenser display control panel (states discountined on all websites Ive checked) Do you know how many times to press a button to try and adjust the fridge correctly again.. Display is blank – do you think the buttons would still work and maybe the display lights would be out??? Could unplugging it help reset it??? HELP I have a baby and a child in the house… everything is freezing in the fridge.. frozen milk, strawberries lettuce… HELP please!!!
We have a Hotpoint side by side refrigerator that stopped working yesterday. The light in the fridge/freezer are both on but it is not cooling and the display in the freezer door is dark I can’t see any LEDs indicating cold level and ice maker.
We have a Whirlpool refrigerator model#gd5nvaxwa00. The display in the thermostat panel doesn’t work after a power outage. We unplugged it for 5 min or so and the lights came back on. After a short time it went out again and the compressor doesn’t come on after the lights go out.
I noticed my fridge had stopped working. The meats in the freezer were starting to defrost and the refrigerator part was warm. I checked the power outlet and power is coming from it. The light in the fridge part is working. The control panel is completely dead, no lights, no display. The compressor and the fans are also not working either. We did not have a power outage last night. I have tried holding down a combination of buttons on the control panel to see if it needed to restart.
The lights work in your Maytag refrigerator…. but it is not cooling, the front display is not illuminated and the compressor and fans are not running at all?
We had a 15 hour power outage yesterday. My Samsung Model # RF28HMEDBSR-AA was plugged in the whole time & when the power came back we had a blank display. We tried unplugging for various times & pushed various buttons on panel but still not working. No cool or freeze.
I have a Maytag Refrigerator that quit working after lightning hit a transformer. Model mfd2562vem11. Control board is dark until you hit any button. When button is pushed all characters and leds light up. Replaced control board. Same result. No Tech sheet with refrigerator. Freezer and fridge not on.
You might’ve faced regular technical problems with your electrical appliances but are tired of calling the technicians. We all go through this situation. Refrigerators are appliances we need the most and face problems with them the most too.
The simplest method for resetting a GE refrigerator is to unplug it from power, wait at least 2-3 minutes, and then restore it to power. This is done by disconnecting the appliance from the electrical system at the breaker panel. Minor issues can be resolved by resetting a GE refrigerator.
You can reset the refrigerator whenever it stops reacting to the temperature dial or making ice. Resetting your appliance can fix it and bring it back into operation. This process will take you only about 10 minutes. It will also spare you the cost of paying an expert to repair it.
Usually, there is no GE fridge reset button on the refrigerator. It is essential to analyze why a GE refrigerator lacks a reset button, right? Although restarting the device may cure specific issues, it is not something GE recommends you do daily.
As GE refrigerators don’t even have a separate reset button, the machine must be reset manually. It will clear the refrigerator’s memory and restart the cycle to keep everything working smoothly. Follow the lead to learn how you should start the resetting process-
First, you must pull the refrigerator from the wall to reveal the electric outlet. Then figure out which cord is connected to the electric outlet from your freezer.
After waiting for a minute, again reconnect the cord where it was connected to the outlet. When the start-up sound is on, you can check if the refrigerator has started working again.
The primary way to reset the GE refrigerator temperature is to switch it off and back on. Because this will delete the settings and any stored power in the refrigerator, you would be starting from zero. The temperature may need to be adjusted, but it will be from scratch.
The most typical cause for an ice maker not working is that the kinesthetic learner’s arm is not in the correct position. Shut off the ice maker and thereafter turn it back on. Push the feeler’s arm up three times to reset the device.
This way, you will be done with how to reset a GE fridge. Try to find the error code on the GE profile refrigerator display because restarting may not solve every technical problem. You should follow the manual guide by looking for the error code.
But what if your GE refrigerator displays a faulty refrigerator one program afterwards? Wondering how to fix a GE refrigerator display? We also have a solution to it.
The display unit on the GE refrigerator is indeed a tremendous benefit. But if the digital display is not operating correctly, you might have to reset it.
There is no specific method for resetting the digital display on the GE refrigerator. It is part of a fundamental reset accomplished by disconnecting the refrigerator, waiting 5 min, and then plugging it back in. This will reboot it on the refrigerator, such as the digital display.
Restarting the refrigerator in this manner might help to resolve any difficulties that may be present with the device. When mistakes tend to accumulate, then soon enough, more significant issues arise.
Resetting your GE refrigerator in this manner might assist in resolving any difficulties that may be present with the appliance. Small mistakes tend to accumulate, and more significant issues soon arise.
After a power outage, little faults might be seen in the refrigerator. This is particularly true if the electricity to the refrigerator flashes and it does not resume completely.
After a power loss, resetting a GE refrigerator is as simple as turning it off for long enough for it to reboot. This would include cleaning the memory and eliminating any remaining energy from the control board.
In general, disconnect the refrigerator or switch off the circuit breaker, then give it at least 5 minutes until plugging it back in. Large appliances, such as your refrigerator, can suffer significantly during power outages.
The panel may need to be inspected for any harm during the power loss. A surge might occur when the electricity goes off or comes back on, which can damage the panel.
You might wonder if switching on and off can solve all the problems. Obviously, no! Do not do it regularly; you also have to wait for a minimum of time to restart the refrigerator again.
The entire control panel may be reset by shutting off the refrigerator for 5 minutes and turning it back on afterwards. It often clears the memory and removes any remaining energy that’s also allowing mistakes to build.
Have you ever noticed that your GE refrigerator lacks a reset button? This is done since they don’t want you to reset the refrigerator to clear the error warnings repeatedly.
These error codes are pre-programmed and included in the system, informing you of what is faulty and how to fix it. Simply turning off and on the refrigerator to reset the error message will not cure the underlying problem.

To check the power cord of your GE refrigerator, locate the power cord and hold it, Now, trace it gradually to the switch to ensure that there is no interruption, burn, wear, or tear on it. If there is any, it implies that the power cord is malfunctioning and requires a repair or replacement.
To repair the power cord of a GE refrigerator, start by disconnecting the refrigerator from the power source. Then, turn it to reveal the back, find the cord and trace it gently to the back panel with your hands.
Undo the screws on the back panel and locate any burnt area or disconnected part on the power cord. When you do, reattach the disconnected wires, taking note of the colors. Then, use a black mending sellotape to cover up the patched area.
To replace it, get a new power cord that suits your GE refrigerator model. Unplug the refrigerator, turn it and use your hand to trace the old cord to the back panel.
Loosen the screws and clips on the back panel and wire, respectively. Detach the old one from the refrigerator and attach the new one to the port. Then, plug it into a power source to check if the refrigerator will come on.
However, repairing the power cord is dependent on which part needs repair. If the plug of the cord has a broken prong, a quick replacement of the plug will do. A new power cord will only be needed if the entire cord is damaged.
To determine if the voltage supply to the GE refrigerator is enough, unplug the refrigerator. Next, loosen the screws at the back panel covering the control board.
Now, use a flat screwdriver to pull out the frame gently. Locate the black and red wire on the board, get a multimeter and set it to the lowest range.
Clamp the probes on each other, then connect the red and black wire to the multimeter. If the result shows less than 5 ohms, it means the voltage supply to the refrigerator is not enough to power the control panel.
To fix this, purchase a suitable control board. Loosen the screws on the back panel to remove the frame covering the control board and detach the wires on the old one gently. Use a soldering iron to fix the wires to the nodes of the new one.
Next, check the voltage supply again with a multimeter. If the result shows around 13-14 ohms, it implies that the voltage supply is sufficient to power the panel.
You can refer to the user’s manual for the correct range of voltage your refrigerator needs because the range varies for different GE refrigerator models.
To inspect the door wiring of your GE refrigerator, unplug it, open the lower grill, and check the waterline underneath it. Adjust the waterline to the right position and ensure that it is properly connected to the refrigerator.
After doing this, check the top of the refrigerator and undo the screws on the hinge cover. Draw out the water dispenser wires and check if there is any burnt or disconnected wire. If there is any, it means that the door wiring needs a repair or re-installation.
To repair it, unplug the refrigerator and loosen the screws on the hinge frame. Now, support the door with your legs and pull out the dispenser wires. Locate any disconnected strand and join it to the other part gently, then connect the wires back to the wire connector.
Place it in the right position, fix the hinge, drive in the screws, and plug in the refrigerator to test-run if the control panel will start working. If it does not you will need a replacement.
To install new door wires for your refrigerator, unplug the refrigerator, open the grill under it, and disconnect the waterline. Use a suitable screwdriver to loosen the screws on the hinge cover, pull out the dispenser wires and the hinge respectively, and carefully detach the wires from the refrigerator.
Next, fix the new wires on the refrigerator door and align them properly. Pass the wires through the hinge and plug them into the wire connector of the refrigerator. Place the connector in the right position, put the hinge cover on it, and drive in the screws.
GE refrigerator doors are usually connected electrically to the refrigerator. This is because the control panel is located on it. Sometimes, when the control panel is defective, it may be that the door is not properly shut. A simple push of the door could make the control panel come on without any stress or delay.

To understand how the control panel of your GE refrigerator works, set the temperature. To do this, plug the refrigerator in and shut the door firmly. This gives you access to the digital display.
Press any of the “Warmer” and “Colder” buttons on any side of the panel to show you the actual temperature of the refrigerator. Then, press any of the same buttons again to set the temperature at the desired range. Pressing warmer or colder increases or decreases the temperature by one range.
However, when the refrigerator is working normally, the control panel does not display the temperature range on the screen. This may give you the impression that the control panel is not working or is defective, but it is working well.
A GE refrigerator control panel may not be working because a basic reset has not been done. After checking the control board, inspecting the power cord, and the voltage supply, try to do a basic reset.
To reset your GE refrigerator, unplug the refrigerator for about 1 minute and allow it to rest. Then, plug it back into the wall outlet. This process automatically reboots and restores the refrigerator to the factory or default setting.

did you make sure to unplug the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes before taking that reading? did you make sure that your multimeter was setup so that the units of measurement were correct?
I have a GE profile stainless steel freezer at the bottom. Had it repaired last Saturday June 28 2015. It was completely not working, rrpairman replaced the motherboard. Both freezer & fridge was working great, now the fridge is little cool temp climbin. Could it be the outlet it was plug in a UL extension cord. Thank you for your response. Dianne ????
Sorry to hear about your troubles. What is the average temperature in the refrigerator and freezer? From what I understand, it is perfectly normal for the temperature to fluctuate a bit. For example, my freezer temp swings anywhere between -4 to 5 degrees.
As far as the extension cord is concerned, as long as it is rated for 15 amps or more (it looks like one of those heavy duty extension cords, not those skinny two prong ones) and it is not too long (like a 50- or 100 feet long), I don’t think it should matter.
Hi kevin, my refrigerator has the same symptom. But my compressor is on when I put hand on it. So far ohm’d compressor all 3 readings read the same 8 ohms.my is Electrolux ei28bs56 could not tell which pin is inverter signal on mother board. I’ll check orange and black wire for 115 or 240 vac. Any other suggestions to help. I do have hand held meter that can check pulses but when I unplugged 3pins plug out from compressor and probe acrossed combination of 3 pins and I did not get any pulse reading. I believe it has to be one of the 3 to dc negative
Hi Kevin. I have a GE Profile Stainless French Door Fridge that the fridge temperature started to drop then the next day the freezer went as well. I saw a youtube video that explained the exact same procedure as you went through. I tested the J15 jumper and the compressor pins and all readings seemed acceptable so ordered a new inverter assembly. Installed it and over the next 24 hours, the freezer/fridge temperatures went from 65/61 to -5/58. The freezer seems to be working again but not the fridge. I think the minor change in the fridge temperature was just due to the cold ambient temperature of the freezer. Any thoughts on why the fridge is not working again?? Fridge is only 5 years old and hate to accept it is done so quickly. Thanks for your help.
Sorry to hear about your GE appliance. Have you tried the diagnostic mode to see if all thermistors are working properly? what about lights and all other functions?
Hi, thanks for your guidance, there is an odd things in my EG fridge, because after defrosting my EG freezer the fan continuing to work! but when I turn off power for a moment, the fan of defrost stops and everything turn to normal (it is ok) . but if I let the fan continue, it works until reducing the temperature and the motor start working again. I am going to find the wire of that fan to cut or… I don’t know what ‘s happened. Board and thermostat are ok.
thank you Kevin, there are 5 wires related to all fans in one part, but It is not easy to find the one that causes the specific fan continuing working! now I turn off for a moment when a quiet weak noise heard, the moment turn off stops it and that is ok but it is not the solution way.!
If you can afford it, you may want to buy a replacement board to try and see if that would resolve your work. I purchase stuff from AppliancePartsPros.com all the time; you do have to pay $9 shipping each way, but if you do not end up using the part, you can return it for full refund.
thank you so much Kevin, Even I changed the board but not any change! I wonder when it is on and works properly but when compressor finished the work and stops, I can hear a weak noise of a fan working at tope of fridge behind the ice-maker of freezer, it is odd and astonishing in the moment when I power off for the moment the fan noise stops.. I am trying to find the wire related to that fan if there is any joined and short circuit.
My ge profile french door refrigerator is not cooling enough the technician said to unplug for 24 hours said it is the motor he said he replaced the motor & sensor. It started to cool but i have a hunch he did not do anything as took so fast i was not there when he fixed it i asked to give me the old part & he said he will but on the receipt it just said sensor & charged me a lot. Am i right to complain?
You also should get a detailed itemized invoice which should include costs for individual parts as well as a labor charge line item. You should not be paying for any item(s) that are not on the invoice.
HELP! My GE profile refrigerator stopped working about 10 days ago, freezer working fine. Repairman came and ordered mother board & fan, he will return on 7/20 to install. Well the refrigerator suddenly started working again today & not sure what to do. The display on refrigerator still shows the cooling system is off- even when you try to turn it on it still says off- but the refrigerator is up to 34, freezer at -2. Should I proceed with repairs? or return parts and pray it continues to work?
our RV guy said the HRS IS FLASHING , the problem is no one in our region will even come to look at it because its in a motorhome, although the motorhome is all electric . our rv guy he would pull it out for them. There is no way we can get it out of the motorhome, we live in Calgary AB any answers thanks.
I do not have a direct experience with that model. However, a quick Google search led me to here (https://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/threads/15886-FIXED-GE-side-by-side-blinking-HRS-clicking-noise). Though the model is different, your issue sounds similar to the poster’s problem.
All readings on compressor and Mother board come out with in specs. Replaces inverter and all thermistors. Fans working, condenser gets a little warm but never cycles on. Fridge is still warm. Now what?
My GE Profile Mdl: PFSS9PKYASS was not cooling when I returned from vacation. The front panel was flashing 76 71. Seems that was the temperature in the freezer and fridge. I unplugged it and then plugged it back in. Numbers were no longer flashing, but it won’t cool. Al lights, the panel and fans are working.
1. using this test mode, check the thermistor which sends temperature readings to the control board; if the self diagnostic mode does not detect them, it means these components have possibly failed. You should first replace these (they are relatively inexpensive). part number is DA32-00027B
3. check the condenser fan motor (located over the compressor). It needs to be fairly clean to cool the refrigerator. You should try turning the fan motor blade by hand to see if it will turn freely. If it does not turn with ease, you need to replace it (part DA97-07754C). While at it, vacuum the coils.
4. check the continuity on the compressor using your multimeter. there should NOT be an open circuit. Read bullet #2 in the “How to fix a GE profile refrigerator that is not cooling” to see how you can test it. Just know that this component must be replaced by a licensed tech
5. as far as logic boards are concerned, I do not have access to the technical info. But I see that it has two parts (main PBA part #WR55X10965) and (inverter part # WR55X10960). Just buy them both from either RepairClinic.com or AppliancePartsPros.com as they both have 365-day return policy so that you can return the items you do not need.
I do not have my manual Can you please post some pictures step by step on how you were able to get to the compressor and motherboard? My Refrigerator is running and I believe the fan blades are spinning. i hear a quite hummmm that tells me the refrigerator is running. All the lights come on and my front display is running my photos.
4. Best bet is to have the inverter on hand (the link I gave in the post is for appliancepartspros; they are great because if you end up not needing it, you can return it for refund minus shipping)
I have a GE Profile side by side, french door freezer on the bottom (model PGSS5RKZSS). About 2 or 3 weeks ago it started rising in temps. Freezer would get up to about 35 F and the fridge would be about 65 F. After a day or two, it would start working again and cool properly. Then repeat. Repair guy has replaced the control board, and the inverter. Problem still remains.
It’s funny you left this comment because MY refrigerator stop cooling again for the third time! Lights and fans are working so my guess is the inverter board went bad again so I ordered a replacement that should be here in couple of days.
As far as your situation is concerned, did you make sure to get the bad part when the tech made the repairs? I have had some bad, unscrupulous dudes so I always make sure I get the bad part back.
I’ve had this same issue with the lower part of my fridge freezing and top not cooling properly. The problem is that your evaporator fan is not working properly (cooling too much by constant spinning 24hrs.) GE is aware if this manufacturing defect and will replace it free if you contact GE and make a service appointment.
GE profile side by side. When outside temp goes above 70ish, evaperator coils freeze up. Defrost heater works in diagnostic mode. Thermistors all pass diagnostic mode. Cleaned condenser coil it was pretty dirty. Any ideas as to what could he the problem? The fridge works great in the winter but this is the second summer in a row where this freezing up is happening as the outside temp rises.
I have a pgcs1pjxass. I have lights and fan but no cooling in either the fridge or freezer section. But I’m confused by your instruction at Step #4. How do you get a voltage reading at J15 if the fridge is unplugged? Without power to the motherboard, I would expect to get a 0.00vdc, which is what I’m getting. BTW, the compressor studs checked out fine. So I think it’s the motherboard or inverter.
The easiest way to reset a GE refrigerator is to disconnect it from the power, wait at least 2 minutes, and then reconnect it to the power source. This can be accomplished by unplugging the appliance or by turning off the circuit breaker in the breaker panel. Resetting a GE refrigerator will often resolve minor problems.
Like any appliance in the home, the refrigerator has received a significant technological upgrade over the years. In doing so, the appliance has a lot more to offer but at the same time, problems are more likely to occur.
Since GE refrigerators do not have a dedicated reset button, it is necessary to reset the unit using the manual method described above. It will reset the memory of the refrigerator and reset the cycles to keep things running smoothly.
It is also important to consider why there is no reset button on a GE refrigerator. Although resetting the unit may solve some problems, it is also not something that GE wants you to do on a regular basis. Why?
First of all, there may be a perfectly good reason why your refrigerator is not operating properly. In some cases, you might even have an error code showing up on the digital display.
Will resetting the refrigerator reset the error code? In most cases, it will erase the error code but that doesn’t mean you are solving the problem that is causing the code to show in the first case.
A much better option is to research the error code using your GE manual or doing a search online. Make sure it is specific to the model of your refrigerator. You will then be in a much better position to keep the unit up and running for the long term.
Little errors tend to occur in any type of technology. A small error is not likely to cause too much concern but as the errors compile, it becomes a bigger issue.
That is why resetting a device or appliance is often the first line of defense when things go wrong. It isn’t always the best way to fix an issue but it is sometimes the quickest way to get things back up and running again.
There are also times when resetting a refrigerator is unlikely to solve a problem. This is especially true when a major mechanical issue is occurring. Here are a few to consider:
No Power: If there is no power to the refrigerator, often recognized because the light isn’t coming on, it isn’t cooling, and the control panel isn’t responding then a reset is unlikely to help.
Power Cord – If the power cord is cut or damaged, it may no longer be sending power to the appliance. Visually inspect the cord for damage and the plug for burnt or broken prongs
Receptacle – Although most receptacles will last for years without problems, there are occasions when they will fail. Try plugging a lamp or another device into the receptacle to see if it works.
Defrost
