We have a GE Profile refrigerator model #PSHS6TGXCSS. It was unplugged and moved to another plug temporarily due to some work we had happening in the house. When we opened the fridge we noticed the compressor isn’t running, it’s not cooling, the front display panel is not working, but the lights are on inside. We tried to reset it by unplugging and moving it back to its original outlet, but nothing changes- it is still not working. Is there anything we can do to get it working again- another way to reset, diagnose, any fuses, etc? We can’t imagine unplugging it would have caused it to completely stop working!

The most important thing is understandinghow your GE control panelworks before jumping to conclusions. To understand how it works, you should set the temperature. Just plug the fridge in and shut thedoor firmly. This provides access to the digital display.
Press the “Colder” or “Warmer” buttonson any side of the panel to show the actual temperature. Then press the same buttons to turn the temperature to your desired range. Usually, yourGE refrigerator wouldn’t display the temperaturerange of the screen.
In particular, GE refrigerators use some high-tech electronic parts in their control panel. Unfortunately, like in all electronic devices, thecontrol panel can experience short-term errorsreferred to as a bug or commonly a glitch.
Power supply disruption is the other reason your GR refrigerator control panel is not working temporarily. You’ll know this is the case from the“Power Outage” indicatoron the control panel.
Some GE refrigerators come with built-in demo or showroom mode. As you might have guessed, these modes are activated on digital display panelunits at the store.
They are also useful when you want to keep the fridge’s light on but turn the rest of the functions off, especiallywhen performing tests or repairson your fridge.
All fridge functions, including thecontrol panel, will be inactiveduring demo mode. Sometimes this mode couldbe active without your knowledge. So as a result, the GE refrigerator control panel might not be working when you try to use it.
Sometimes, the dispenser control panelmay experience an electrical fault, like a short circuit which causes it to stop working. In this case, an entire board could become unresponsive. Or it could be that only some buttons need to be fixed.
The main control board is like thebrain of the GE refrigerator. It is a printed circuit board with many tiny components attached to it which control the fridge functions.
However, the main control board is thelast thing you should checkif the GE refrigerator control panel is not working. Why? Since it’s the least likely reason why the issue with the control panel appears. Besides, it’s the most expensive part to replace.
The main control boardcould suffer electrical faultsthat damage some components. Correspondingly some of the fridge parts will malfunction, including the control panel.
Now, you should be assured that if your GE refrigerator control panel is not working, it doesn’t necessarily mean the fridge is broken. It might meanyou have to replace some parts.
Sometimes when the control panel doesn’t work, it might be because thebasic research hasn’t been done. Toreset your refrigerator, unplug it for about a few minutes and let it rest. It gives your GE appliance a chance to clear its memory. Then, plug it back into the outlet.

A power supply is one of the common reasons why your GE refrigerator control panel might not work, even though it is not a problem. The control panel will only work onceyou confirm that you’ve read the warning.
Unplug the refrigerator and remove the screwsholding the control board’s rear panel to see if there are any more significant problems with the power supply.
Disabling the demo or showroom modewill help you get the control panel to work again. However, thesteps might differ across different GE refrigerator models.
With some GE fridges, it is enough to unplug the cord and plug it back in. At the same time, some models require you tohold the control lock and precise fill buttonsfor about 7 seconds.
Since the dispense control board is a singular piece, you’ll have toreplace the entire unitregardless of whether the whole board stops working or only one button.
Unfortunately, the main control boardis not a serviceable part. It means you have to replace an entire unit. Once you have a replacement board, loosen the screen on the back panel and gently detach the wires on the old one.
Then, use the soldering iron tofix the wires to the nods on a new board. Remember to check the voltage supply with the multimeter again. The result should be at least 13-14 ohms.
First, unplug your GE fridge and open the lower grill. Thencheck the waterline underneathand adjust it to the right position to ensure it is correctly connected to the refrigerator.
After that, check the top of the GE fridge and undo the screws on the hinge cover. You need todraw out the water dispenser wiresand check if they’ve been burnt or disconnected. If so, you need to repair or reinstall the door wiring.

This popular brand with its wide range of refrigerator models are easily recognisable and known to be reliable. However, like all appliances, they can develop the odd problem.
If you need to reset your GE refrigerator and are not sure of the correct way to do it, keep reading. In this article we’ll give you all the information you’ll need to successfully reset your GE refrigerator. And explain what any error code your refrigerator might be displaying means.
Most GE refrigerators don’t have a reset button as such, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be reset. To reset your GE refrigerator follow the advice of our refrigerator expert below.
The first stage in the process of resetting your GE refrigerator is to remove its power. To do this either unplug the power cord from the wall socket or switch the circuit breaker off. After around 5 to 10 minutes, reconnect the power and turn the wall socket on, you should hear the refrigerator start up.
Then open the freezer and locate the shut off switch, turn it off and allow at least one minute to pass before turning it back on. Finally, find the ice maker shut off which is usually located at the top of the ice maker. Push the ice maker shut off up and down and repeat three times, your GE refrigerator is now reset.
To reset the temperature on a GE Profile refrigerator, just press the temperature button on the control panel, this will get you into self-diagnostic mode. Once both refrigerator and freezer temperature control displays are displayed, set them both to “5”.
Then press and hold all four of the temperature adjustment buttons for 3 to 5 seconds, you’ll then notice “0” flash on the display screen. As soon as you see the “0” on the screen, press “1” and “5” this will reset your appliance.
To reset the compressor on your GE refrigerator, remove it from mains power by unplugging it or switching the circuit breaker off. Wait for around 10 to 15 minutes, then reconnect the power, don’t worry if the compressor doesn’t kick in immediately, it may have already accumulated enough pressure which it will need to dump before it starts, to avoid damage.
Smart fridges have self-diagnostic systems that will display an error code if they detect a fault. While it’s not always possible to effect a repair yourself, it’s useful to understand what that code signifies. Below is a list of common GE error codes and what they are used to signify.
To remove an error code from the display of your GE refrigerator select and press the system check button. This will clear the error code from the screen. If the code reappears, this would imply there is a problem that needs dealing with.
If it is beyond your level of competence and safety, we suggest you call in an electrical engineer to diagnose and repair your refrigerator. Never tamper with anything electrical unless you are certain it is safe to do so.
Not every code displayed on your GE refrigerator is an error code. Some are just normal operating codes, it might be helpful for you to familiarise yourself with these to avoid any unnecessary concern.
These are standard functions and nothing to worry about. However, if you see any of the error codes displayed instead of these, and they won’t clear, contact an engineer.
After a power outage the display will be showing “88” to reset this just press the energy saving button and the alarm light button simultaneously and hold for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds you will hear a beep and the display panel will be reset.

To check the power cord of your GE refrigerator, locate the power cord and hold it, Now, trace it gradually to the switch to ensure that there is no interruption, burn, wear, or tear on it. If there is any, it implies that the power cord is malfunctioning and requires a repair or replacement.
To repair the power cord of a GE refrigerator, start by disconnecting the refrigerator from the power source. Then, turn it to reveal the back, find the cord and trace it gently to the back panel with your hands.
Undo the screws on the back panel and locate any burnt area or disconnected part on the power cord. When you do, reattach the disconnected wires, taking note of the colors. Then, use a black mending sellotape to cover up the patched area.
To replace it, get a new power cord that suits your GE refrigerator model. Unplug the refrigerator, turn it and use your hand to trace the old cord to the back panel.
Loosen the screws and clips on the back panel and wire, respectively. Detach the old one from the refrigerator and attach the new one to the port. Then, plug it into a power source to check if the refrigerator will come on.
However, repairing the power cord is dependent on which part needs repair. If the plug of the cord has a broken prong, a quick replacement of the plug will do. A new power cord will only be needed if the entire cord is damaged.
To determine if the voltage supply to the GE refrigerator is enough, unplug the refrigerator. Next, loosen the screws at the back panel covering the control board.
Now, use a flat screwdriver to pull out the frame gently. Locate the black and red wire on the board, get a multimeter and set it to the lowest range.
Clamp the probes on each other, then connect the red and black wire to the multimeter. If the result shows less than 5 ohms, it means the voltage supply to the refrigerator is not enough to power the control panel.
To fix this, purchase a suitable control board. Loosen the screws on the back panel to remove the frame covering the control board and detach the wires on the old one gently. Use a soldering iron to fix the wires to the nodes of the new one.
Next, check the voltage supply again with a multimeter. If the result shows around 13-14 ohms, it implies that the voltage supply is sufficient to power the panel.
You can refer to the user’s manual for the correct range of voltage your refrigerator needs because the range varies for different GE refrigerator models.

I didn"t have a problem with the temp display not working but have a clicking noise coming from the main controller board. Temperature fluctuates and won"t stay stable all the time, both fridge and freezer get warmer than should be. I read on other forums that replacing this board should fix the problem and that quite a few of the GE Profile fridge/freezers had a recall on that board.
Called GE, rep said that there was no recalls listed but he could give me a discount on a new fridge, told him no, that ours was only 5-6 years old(out of warranty), so he offered a discount on the part, said he could ship it to me for $84. I just replaced the board but so far it is still clicking, not sure if it is just catching up after being unplugged or if I still have the same problem? I"ve read about the recall on this and other forums, but no one has posted if there is a # associated with the recall or if it is just luck of getting the right rep at GE? Gonna give it some time and see if it is working correctly?
Hello, I am new to this forum. The LCD display board on my GE profile PFE29PSDASS is not working even though the lights, sensors and buttons all work. The LCD display is just dark. I ordered a new LCD display control board and plugged it all in and that one doesn’t work either.
also, the icemaker is not filling up water into the ice tray. I hear the harvester moving but there is no water coming into the tray. I replaced the water inlet valve on the back of the refrigerator and still no water.
The first step when you see a PF error is to check the food in your freezer and refrigerator for spoilage. Discard food if it is discolored, shows signs of mold, or has an unpleasant smell.
Check the power cord for signs of wear or damage. If you see any exposed metal wiring, turn off power to the outlet from the circuit breaker and disconnect the power cord from the outlet. Exposed metal wiring is a fire and safety hazard. Discontinue use of the refrigerator until the power cord is replaced.
If no additional errors display, you may have a problem with the electrical outlet, internal wiring, or main control panel. Contact a qualified GE refrigerator repair service for assistance.
Pro Tip: It is not safe to eat food that has thawed and refrozen. If experienced a power fluctuation when you were away from home, it is possible your freezer warmed enough that the food inside is no longer safe. As a safety measure, place a cup of water inside your freezer until it is frozen. Place a coin on top of the ice. If you suspect an extended period of high temperatures inside your freezer, check the cup of ice. If the coin is not on the top the water melted and the food inside your freezer should be discarded.
