The common faults we see with the earlier 1998 - 2006 instrument cluster is failure of the fuel and/or temperature gauge and chattering gauges. Other faults include complete loss of digital display or complete dash failure.

The later, 2006 onwards, TT instrument cluster suffers from backlight failure, complete loss of all display and/or complete non starting of the vehicle due to immobiliser lock-out.

A common failure on the MK1 Audi TT and the MK1 A3/S3 is the DIS (driver information system) digital display. Over time, rows of pixels fail making the display hard to read. These clusters also commonly suffer from failing backlights and faulty fuel / temperature gauges.
