I don"t know where the term "PLJ-6LED 2004A" came from since the first half (PLJ-6LED) seems to refer to a 6-digit, 7-segment display that does not show up on the Sainsmart website. The second half (2004A) comes up often since it refers to the 20x4 display size. Both those displays say they have an SPI interface, so that is how you connect them to the Arduino. But that is only the start, you then need to drive them with software. The thing to look at here is the IC that they mention. In the case of the 240 by 160 this is the ST7586. If you are lucky then someone might have written a libiary to drive them. Otherwise you will have to go through the data sheet and see if you can figure out how to do it.

What info I did find says that display uses ILI6480BQ LCD driver chip. So, I"m thinking to make use of that LCD, the 40 pin flat flexible cable needs to be plugged into an ILI6480BQ driver.

So you"d need a custom designed PCB, the components, and then assemble it.

I have the shield I posted the link to and it works flawlessly, but it"s expensive. Cheap china made LCD displays can be found for around $10, but the supporting hardware will vary. I have one of those and have spent a bit of time just getting it up and running.

I have a project I"ve been thinking about for awhile that requires an oval shaped LCD panel, and finally managed to track down and receive a Chinese cell phone with an oval panel that fits the bill. (actual oval not a beveled/obfuscated rectangle) Basically I want to remove the LCD panel and put it in a custom housing, and have something drive it to display a video feed. Now that I actually have the thing in my hand, I realize that I"m completely over my head in terms of making it work.

If I take the phone apart would there be a possibility of a manufacture/part stamp or are these things typically unlabeled? Does anyone know of a manufacture that provides oval panels as a kit?
