how to fix a scratched tv lcd screen manufacturer

A word to the wise. You must use caution and common sense when attempting this procedure or you can easily make things worse.  At our affordable Pittsburgh cleaning services company, we don’t clean flat screen TVs but I still felt this writing might prove very useful to you.

This is a technique that you can use to remove light scratches from flat screen and LCD TVs safely.  Scratches can result from some of the most innocuous, everyday items such as a piece of newspaper, a magazine, or tiny claw nails from pet cats and dogs and even fingernails from children. Any of these items and many more can unintentionally brush against your flat screen TV, leaving a scratch that’s usually visible whether the television in turned on or off.

The secret to removing light scratches from your flat screen TV is to use the proper tools along with a careful tried and true technique. To begin with, you’ll need a bottle of Isopropyl alcohol which is normally found in grocery stores, drug stores, and, hardware stores. Don’t use any other type of alcohol as it will damage your screen beyond repair.

Next and just as important is a soft clean microfiber cleaning cloth that most professional cleaning services use when cleaning client’s homes. They’re usually found at WalMart and Target stores. Again don’t substitute any other cleaning cloth or damage is likely to occur.

Lastly, distilled water is needed, which is also available at grocery stores, Walmarts, and most drug stores. Regular tap water has harmful chemicals which will exasperate the problem.

A quick word of caution –  never use Windex, glass cleaner, or other window cleaning solutions on your flat screen TV.  Never use paper towels on your Flat Screen TV, as this is one of the quickest routes to permanently damaging your flat screen or LCD with thousands of little scratches.

I once didn’t follow this advice and used a paper towel on reading glasses.  I didn’t use excessive force, but it didn’t matter!  I quickly discovered I damaged my expensive eyeglasses beyond repair.

This one little mistake is how most folks ruin their TV screen.  The same applies to cell phone screens, Ipads, laptops, and desktops.  All of these surfaces should only be cleaned lightly with a soft microfiber cloth.

Before starting, first mix a 50/50 solution (half Isopropyl alcohol and half distilled water) in a liquid safe container.  Be sure the container is clean, not only of small dirt particles but also of any lingering chemicals from prior use. Use Isopropyl alcohol that is rated at 90% pure so that when mixing a 50/50 solution the final result is perfect for the task at hand.

Dip your microfiber cloth into the solution and wring it out so it’s slightly damp. Begin by gently rubbing the scratch on the TV in a circular motion.  Use care as it’s important not to rub too hard or friction from the microfiber cloth can make the scratch worse.

After a bit, the scratch should begin to disappear as the Isopropyl alcohol in your cleaning solution evaporates.  If the scratch does not begin to disappear or becomes worse stop immediately.  You may have a scratch that needs a professional’s attention.

Remember, the easiest way to remove scratches from your flat screen and LCD TV is to prevent them in the first place. Hope this article helps you to restore your screen like new.

LCD screens are fragile and prone to scratches. These scratches cannot be repaired but can be made less noticeable by following some simple methods. We will discuss some of these methods to fix scratches on an LCD.

Take a tsp. of petroleum jelly on a microfiber cloth and buff it across the entire LCD screen. It will give a shine to the screen and will also camouflage the scratches.

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens are known for their clarity, good picture quality, and energy-efficiency. This is the reason they are widely used in almost all the devices, such as computers, TV, mobile phones, etc. These screens are very delicate and must be handled with care. But, no matter how many precautions you take, they are bound to get scratched. These scratches cannot be removed or fixed completely, but can be made less apparent with the help of some simple but effective methods.

Before any fixation, check the LCD’s warranty period. If you are under the warranty, then you will get a free repairing service from the company. In case the scratch is deep and long, then it is better to get it repaired from a professional.

You cannot fix the scratches completely on an LCD TV but you can camouflage them for a pretty good period. Following are some of the methods that you can follow to get the scratches fixed.

Method: Clean the surface with the help of water and cloth. Let it dry for sometime. Now take about 1 tsp. petroleum jelly and fill the scratches. Once all the scratches are filled, take a clean cloth and gently wipe off the extra jelly. You will see that the scratches are lighter, if not completely invisible. You may have to reapply if it wears off.

Method: Clean the scratched area properly with the help of water and a clean cloth. Let the area dry. Now take a clean pencil eraser and start rubbing over the scratch lightly. Rub it along the direction of the scratch. Keep doing it till the scratch disappears.

Method: First of all, prepare a cleaning solution. Dilute 1 part isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol with 20 parts of water. Now clean the scratched area with a cotton cloth dabbed in water. Let it dry. Dip another cloth in the cleaning solution and work on the scratch, cleaning the area gently. Keep cleaning till the scratch disappears. Now take the swab which was dipped in water, and clean the alcohol from the screen. The cleaning solution helps remove the scratch by dissolving the anti-glare coating which fills the scratched area.

Precaution: If the solution starts smudging, then stop immediately. Do not use a strong alcohol. The strength of alcohol should not exceed more than 35%.

You can easily get LCD scratch repair kits in the market under different brand names. These kits are specially made to remove scratches from any LCD screen. All the methods mentioned in this HomeQuicks article are helpful in fixing only small scratches. If the scratches are long and deep, then you either need to give it for repair, or get the LCD screen replaced. The best way to prevent scratches is to get an LCD screen protector, which will not only save your screen, but can also be easily replaced in case of damage.

Finally, when nothing else seems to have a positive effect, using a simple eraser may be worth a try. What Home Theater claims that a simple pencil eraser, or any type of soft rubber material, can slowly erase a scratch on a flat-screen television. This technique, however, is not recommended to be used alone.

What Home Theater recommends always starting with one of the other techniques before jumping in with an eraser. For example, you can start off by rubbing the scratch gently with the mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water before using an eraser to finish off the task. When picking out an eraser, choose one that is rather soft or you may risk further damage to the television. While rubbing with the eraser, be gentle with your strokes and move in a circular motion. Like all the other techniques, if you start to notice the scratch getting worse, stop the process immediately and seek the help of a professional for further guidance.

Magic erasers are usually used for cleaning up messes, but could they clean up scratches? Yup. It wiped out small scratches on the phone"s screen in just a few seconds. Taylor Martin has a tutorial on how to make your own magic erasers for just around $0.10 (£0.07 or AU$0.14) each.

Wiping a screen with toothpaste (not the gel kind) supposedly works for fixing scratched screens. All it did in my tests was make the screen shinier and seemed to add small abrasion marks. I also tried toothpaste on a plastic screen protector, such as the kind that comes with OtterBox phone cases. It worked great on that! So it"s a no for screens, but a yes for plastic screen protectors.

Erasers work great for making scratches disappear. I used a white rubber eraser, but you can also use the type that"s found on the end of a pencil. Simply rub the scratch left and right with the eraser for about 60 seconds, and then rub it up and down for 60 seconds. The friction softens the eraser and it fills in the scratch. Don"t press down too hard, though!

Car waxes and headlight lens creams are supposed to be effective at removing scratches on screens, so I gave Mothers PowerPlastic 4Lights headlight cream a try. It made the scratches fade significantly, and l liked the shine it gave my screen.

A paste of two parts baking soda to one part water has been bandied about as a great screen fixer. Nope. It just made the screen really shiny. Plus, the moisture in the paste could damage your device.

According to the internet, coconut oil can solve just about any problem. Shockingly, it didn"t work well on phone scratches. Like with the petroleum jelly, it just made the phone super slippery.

I wasn"t sure about this tip. Sites say to mix the corn starch with a little water to make a paste, rub it on the screen with a soft cloth, and then wipe it off. It didn"t do anything to the scratches, but it made the screen shiny.

OK, this one freaked me out. A lot. Putting gooey, oily stuff on electronics is never a good idea, but I gave it a shot in the name of science. I dabbed a bit on as recommended, and rubbed it into the screen with a tissue. As I feared, all it did was make the test screen oily and sticky.

Why do people think it"s a good idea to rub food on their phones? Nope, rubbing a banana peel on your screen won"t help it. I tried it a couple different ways and it just left a crusty mess that is hard to remove.

Powdered cleanser like Bar Keepers Friend, Comet, Ajax and the like seem a good idea for buffing out scratches. They are slightly abrasive, so you"d think they"d polish your screen to a gleaming scratch-free shine. Well, they don"t. They can even leave new little scratches on your screen. Yah, this test didn"t go well.

Scratches or cracks on flat-screen TV screens, whether they’re LED, LCD, or Plasma, can often mean an expensive professional repair, replacement parts, or even a replacement TV, especially if they are a top-rated TV. But depending on the extent of the damage, there are a few DIY tricks that can salvage the situation. Knowing how to fix a broken TV screen can save you time and a lot of money, so it’s often worth a try to apply a little elbow grease to the problem.

These DIY flat-screen tv repair tricks generally won’t cost you much- or anything at all, and anyone can do them, regardless of how handy they may or may not be–they can even save you from high flat-screen tv repair costs. Or even better, they’ll save you from replacing a high-quality TV, like if you’ve invested in one of the best TVs for bright rooms.

Before you attempt any home repairs, there are some guidelines as far as what kind of screen damage can actually be fixed without a professional (or at all.) However, before you do any repairs, you should see if your warranty covers the repairs. This is especially true if you bought an extended warranty as you don’t want to waste your money.

Spiderweb cracks are small, shallow hairline cracks that don’t go all the way through the screen and are often fixable, especially since it usually means that damage hasn’t been done to the components underneath. Scratches- especially minor ones- are more often than not capable of being “erased” or faded so that they don’t affect your viewing experience.

In the case of how to fix a TV with no picture but sound, you should check the settings to ensure that they’re set correctly. If needed, reset them and see if it resolves the issue. If not, then you may need to check for loose or damaged cables. Additionally, you may want to check out how to fix a black screen on a TV. However, if you have a picture that isn’t clear and looks blocky, check out our page on troubleshooting TV pixelation problems. We can also help you troubleshoot your problem if you have been asking, why does my TV keep turning off?

As with any kind of screen damage on a flat-screen tv, not every spiderweb crack or will be fixable at home, and major cracks or vertical lines and horizontal lines will always mean a professional repair at an authorized repair center, replacement screen purchase, entire board replacement, backlight repair, and not infrequently, the need to replace the entire TV unit if the cost of the flat-screen tv repair would be more than the original cost of the TV. One thing that you ought to keep in mind, however, is that you should consider screen size and tv weight. Additionally, if you are energy conscious, you should learn about the different screen technologies and how much power those TVs use.

A frequent but often minor issue with TV screens and computer monitors alike are “dead” pixels or pixels that seem to be stuck on one color or overly bright pixels. While this is sometimes an indication of irreversible physical damage, fairly often, it’s something that can be fixed quickly and easily and save you from flat-screen tv repair costs. First, you will want to make sure the issue is a dead pixel, you can do this by following our guide on how to fix a black spot on a tv screen.Wrap a pencil or other dull and narrow object in a damp, soft (non-abrasive) cloth

If you don’t see results with this method, you could also try using software designed to “cycle” through colors rapidly to “wake up” pixels, some of which are available for free.

Fine cracks or spiderweb cracks on flat-panel screens can often be repaired or “erased” using a few different DIY methods. First, you’ll need to determine if a repair is possible. Run a soft, clean, non-abrasive cloth over the screen gently- if you feel any broken glass or jagged or rough edges, the repair will probably not be possible, and you’ll likely have to replace the screen entirely. If not, try the following:Using a clean, dry pencil eraser, gently rub the scratches or spiderweb crack, making sure to wipe away any residue from the eraser as it collects.

If the above fix doesn’t work or isn’t as effective as desired, you can purchase an LCD scratch repair kit as a backup method- these can be found at many vendors at an average cost of $20 to start. If the kit doesn’t work either, you still may be looking at a screen replacement and a call to a repair center. It is also important as sometimes your TV may not need fixing, but you just need to know how can I get internet on my tv. This is especially true if you are just facing issues with the internet connectivity of your smart TV. If none of these fixes work and you are in need of a new TV, you can check out our Samsung Q90R review to get started on your search. Alternatively, you can check out our guide on the best 55-inch TV to read about one of the most popular sized TVs currently available.

If it’s a hairline or spiderweb crack-one that doesn’t go all the way through the screen- you may be able to repair it yourself using a couple of DIY methods or by purchasing a kit online. If the damage is significant, it’s likely you’ll have to replace the screen entirely.

Hourly labor rates at TV repair shops can range from $60 to $125, including diagnostic fees, but further charges depend on the repair services needed, as well as the model and brand of the TV- many repairs can have an average cost of up to $350, not including labor costs. Work like port repair, replacement panels, power board, and power supply replacement, any major display issue, new lamp units, and other common issues can vary a great deal in cost depending on TV models- replacing an entire display panel on a small 1080p screen will be much cheaper than replacing one from a large 4K TV. An included limited warranty can sometimes help with these costs, however, though they don’t always cover labor costs.

Sometimes, yes- it depends on the extent of the damage. If the screen damage is minor, such as hairline cracks or scratches, DIY methods may work, but major cracks can often damage the plasma components underneath, making the repair cost higher than the original cost of the TV itself sometimes. Consulting a repair shop that does Plasma TV repair is a good idea if the damage seems major. Repair technicians can often diagnose panel replacement, motherboard replacement, power supply repair, inverter repair, and more over the phone.

Common issues that generally can’t be solved at home include inverter repair, power cord replacement, many LED TV repairs, replacement panels, a blank screen, replacing the power supply board, control board swapping, and lamp burnout. Diagnostics testing can often reveal other issues with your set that are related to the main issue.

STAT: An extended warranty as opposed to a limited warranty can cost between 10 and 20 percent of the price of your TV but can save you from replacement and repair costs in case of major damage. An extended warranty can usually be purchased with the TV. (source)

STAT: Software updates to your Smart TV can be done at home by the user at no cost, while a repair shop will charge as much as $100 for performing such updates. (source)

I just got my NIB WOZ ECLE this evening and have been really enjoying it. After getting my initial games in I decided to update the software and while taking the time to closely examine things I noticed what I thought was a hair on the back glass. When I looked closer I saw that it was actually a scratch on the monitor underneath the glass. When I removed the back glass I could also tell that I was not the first to notice since with the glass off I could see there were smudgy finger prints across the scratch where I guess someone tried to rub it out with their finger. So while it"s a little disappointing that the scratch was noticed at the factory and not handled there I totally understand that things happen it was probably small enough to not trigger any action. After all it"s barely noticeable and had I not been staring at the screen watching the update I probably would never had noticed just playing the game.

So my question is, is there a safe way to remove a scratch from the WOZ LCD screen? I guess it really applies to any LCD screen. The scratch is small (about 1/2" long but deep enough that running a soft cloth over the area i can feel a slight ridge.

Well I managed to fix it. I had once bought a plastic polish cream and tried my luck. I know that the TV might have some anti glare coating. I applied some cream on a soft cloth and very gently rubbed it in. In a few seconds the scratch vanished. I then quickly cleaned the screen with some household multi purpouse cleaner and the screen was good as new.

As with any electronic item, televisions attract dust and are magnets for smudges and children"s fingerprints. Luckily, learning how to clean a flat-screen TV is fairly straightforward, requiring little time and few materials.

Regardless of whether you have an LCD or a plasma TV, all flat-screen TVs are made out of thin, flexible materials and should be treated very gently. They have extremely sensitive components, and using chemical cleaners may lead to a broken or blank screen (so skip the window cleaning spray!). Even ordinary kitchen towels or paper towels can cause marks and scratches on the screen. Here"s the right way to clean a flat-screen TV and prevent costly damage.

Clean a flat-screen TV once a week to wipe away the inevitable smudge marks, dust, and fingerprints that will accumulate. Giving it a regular wipe down will prevent dirt and oil from building up.

Shutting off your monitor will not only help you see where dirt and dust have collected, but it will also give your screen time to cool down. A warm or hot screen will be harder to clean, increasing the chances that you"ll accidentally damage it if you scrub too forcefully.

If you take a quick survey of the different cleaning recommendations from various flat-screen TV manufacturers, you"ll quickly discover that many of the directions conflict with each other. When in doubt, check your owner"s manual or look online at the manufacturer"s website for instructions on how to clean your flat-screen TV. This cautionary step will prevent you from doing something the manual warns against, thus voiding your warranty.

Gently wiping the screen with a dry, soft cloth may be the only universally agreed-upon method for cleaning a flat-screen TV. While this will likely take care of any surface lint, it may not be enough to remove oil or dirt. Be warned, an attempt to scrub the screen by using any amount of pressure may only cause the liquid crystals inside to misalign or burn out.

Unless your owner"s manual specifically prohibits it, carefully wipe the screen with a damp, lint-free cloth. When using water, be sure to spray it onto the cleaning towel rather than directly onto the screen. This will give you more control over where the water is going and how much is being used. Have a dry towel handy for carefully drying off the screen.

In certain instances, like when your TV gets mixed up in a food fight or when a child with grimy hands insists on touching the screen, you may need to use a little soap to clean the surface.

See you later, dirty television screens. Whether your TV screens are challenged by dust or inconvenient smudges that seem to appear from nowhere, it’s time to adopt a simple cleaning routine that takes care of all that. Get your screen clean pronto, and then kick back and enjoy the show.

Before you start guessing at what will work for your home’s needs, refer to the owner"s manual that came with your television. It’s always best to get advice from the manufacturer, especially if there’s a warranty involved; however, if that document has long since hit the recycling bin, follow these tips and take necessary precautions so you don’t cause permanent damage to the pixels and electrical components.

Different screens require different cleaning agents, and though we address how to clean old school glass-screen tube TVs and glass-coated iPad screens below, we know it’s more likely that you’re dealing with a flatscreen LCD or plasma television. TL;DR: Avoid abrasion. Avoid excess moisture. Avoid harsh chemicals.

Use soft, lint-free microfiber cloths and nothing rough or abrasive. Even paper towels can scratch a television, and plasma screens in particular are very delicate.

Always refer to manufacturer guidelines for cleaning and play it safe if there’s any doubt, especially if the only cleaners you have on hand are harsh chemicals with a bad reputation.

Remove dust with a dry microfiber cloth. Wipe around all edges of the screen too, because dust buildup on ports and speakers can negatively affect performance over time.

Mist a formulated cleaning spray onto a clean microfiber cloth; you can opt for store-bought or try an easy DIY solution, such as 1:1 parts of white vinegar and distilled water, or 1:4 parts distilled water to 70% isopropyl alcohol. These formulas may dry at different rates, so be sure that you don’t oversaturate your cloth.

If you’re using a vinegar- or alcohol-based cleaner, thoroughly wipe down the remote with the damp microfiber cloth you used to clean the television screen.

Big tip: Remove the batteries first so you don’t accidentally turn on the TV (and undoubtedly, push the magic combination of buttons that turns on subtitles and changes your settings to German … you know how it is).
