fiat 500 tft display bedienungsanleitung in stock
Details on the 2015 Fiat 500, which will feature a handful of updates, have now been released a week before the car is showcased at the 2014 New York Auto Show.
The most significant change is a 7-inch TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) display in the instrument cluster, which places the speed readout prominently in the center, along with an image of the car.
These models are currently available only with a five-speed manual, while other gasoline 500 models are available with either a manual or automatic transmission.
Fiat has not released updated fuel economy numbers for 2015, but the 2014 500 is EPA-rated at 34 mpg combined (31 mpg city, 40 mpg highway) with the manual transmission, and 30 mpg combined (27 mpg city, 34 mpg highway) with the automatic.
The manual-only 2014 500 Turbo has identical combined and highway ratings to the non-turbocharged, automatic 500, but gains 1 mpg city, figures shared with the Abarth models.
Used TFT clocks DIM from S/V60, XC60, S80II, XC/V70III made in the years 2014 to 2017 (the unit from V40 series can only be used in V40 cars - it has different mechanical shape than x60, x70, x80)
make sure that you located the TFT DIM that matches the transmission type of the target car - Automatic (PRND display) or Manual (+ Gear -) on the right side of the display. Diesel/petrol fuel type of the donor car does NOT matter.
Then press DECODE CEM. We must warn you this process can take up to 24 hours(but on average it usually does not take more than 12 hours). During the whole process you can interrupt the decoding process and continue later. If you do the CEM PIN decoding then you no longer need to do it again. Thanks to this you can also make other changes in the vehicle configuration including the TFT retrofit. After this process is done you will receive an email to the account you put in in the beginning.
Then choose CAR CONFIGURATION and then “Car configuration wizard”. Then you only need to choose the “TFT retrofit” wizard. Make sure DIM is connected.
Connect DiCE again, turn the ignition key to position II and open VDASH again on your computer. Go to “Car configuration wizard” and choose TFT retrofit again.
VDASH will begin to look for the newly connected TFT DIM. If all wires are correctly plugged in, the update process will begin. If not then check the connecting of the wires again using the multimeter.
Your vehicle will restart itself many times during the process and at the end you will see a picture of the vehicle, the state of fuel and more. At the very beginning the incorrect measures can be displayed, but after a short trial run it should be fixed. The kilometres will also automatically reappear.
You can change and move the clock motivesonly when the engine is running (this does not have any specific explanation). The designated motive is Elegance(grey or brown). It is possible to reprogramme this motive to a blue version “R-design” (using car configuration > advanced settings > Advanced TFT DIM settings > Screen Skins > DIM: R-design menu), motives Ecoand Powerremain unchanged.
1. Temporarily disconnect newly connected cables from the white DIM connector, and connect the original DIM2. Start the engine (SCL the steering lock will now unlock)3. While the engine is running, disconnect the original DIM connector and reconnect the additional wiring, connect the TFT DIM4. Turn the engine off and lock the car5. SCL will NOT turn on again (unless you connect the original DIM). You will not observe any further immobilisation issues.

April 7, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The 2015 Fiat 500 vehicle lineup, to be showcased at the 2014 New York International Auto Show, will include a number of interior enhancements for increased driver convenience and ease of use, including an advanced instrument panel with a 7-inch high-definition TFT (Thin Film Transistor) cluster display.
The new 7-inch TFT cluster allows drivers to easily monitor data like speed, fuel level, Eco index and trip information. While on the main screen, an image of the vehicle is surrounded by information, including distance traveled, gas mileage and range. A parking screen helps drivers while moving in reverse if the vehicle is equipped with Rear Park Assist. Other screen options include a radio screen that displays information about the station selected and a telephone screen showing call information.
When the vehicle is in Sport mode, the TFT display becomes more aggressive in appearance, complementing the Sport mode"s more engaged driving experience.
Other interior updates for 2015 include a redesigned center console. To make it more useful for drivers, the revamped console includes a new cup holder design and an additional, conveniently located USB port that is fully functional and integrated with the radio. The 2015 Fiat 500 models will also include Bluetooth streaming audio in addition to the already standard Bluetooth phone connectivity.
"Since launching in March 2011, more than 135,000 Fiat 500 cars have been sold in North America," said Jason Stoicevich, Head of FIAT Brand for North America, Chrysler Group LLC. "We continue to improve the successful 500, retaining its unique Italian flavor while adding unique features, such as a 7-inch TFT display, and incorporating Bluetooth streaming and a more functional center console."
In addition to the interior improvements across the Fiat 500 lineup, the Fiat 500 Abarth, Abarth Cabrio and Turbo will add a six-speed automatic transmission as an option for 2015.
The FIAT brand stands for discovery through passionate self-expression. Italian at heart and rooted in a rich heritage, the Fiat 500 is synonymous with modern, simple design blending form, function and a pride of ownership that is genuine. The FIAT brand portfolio in North America continues to expand. In 2013, the FIAT brand launched the high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio, the fully electric Fiat 500e, the Fiat 500L and Fiat 500L Trekking.

With the resources, technology and worldwide distribution network required to compete on a global scale, the alliance builds on Chrysler Group"s culture of innovation, first established by Walter P. Chrysler in 1925, and Fiat"s complementary technology that dates back to its founding in 1899.
Headquartered in Auburn Hills, Mich., Chrysler Group"s product lineup features some of the world"s most recognizable vehicles, including the Chrysler 300 and Town & Country, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Dart, Ram 1500, SRT Viper and Fiat 500. Fiat contributes world-class technology, platforms and powertrains for small- and medium-size cars, allowing Chrysler Group to offer an expanded product line including environmentally friendly vehicles.
April 7, 2014 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The high-performance 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio, to be showcased at the 2014 New York International Auto Show, will be available with an optional six-speed automatic transmission, helping to broaden the customer base for the high-performance version of the Fiat 500.
"Adding an optional automatic transmission makes the Abarth and Abarth Cabrio accessible to an entirely new group of customers who want to enjoy the thrilling driving experience of the Fiat 500 Abarth with the convenience of an automatic gearbox," said Jason Stoicevich, Head of FIAT Brand for North America, Chrysler Group LLC.
To ensure the 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio remain true to their high-performance and track-ready heritage, the six-speed automatic transmission – Aisin AW6F25 six-speed – has been reinforced with more clutch plates and a more robust heat treatment to allow for higher torque capability. The Sport mode calibration allows for an even more engaged driving experience with special features such as fuel-cut upshifts, rev-matching downshifts, brake-assist downshifts, corner gear hold and fast-off gear hold, as well as a more aggressive pedal map.
Both the automatic and manual transmission options for the 2015 Fiat Abarth and Abarth Cabrio will be paired with the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine. Both Abarth models will continue to include the segment-exclusive Abarth Track Experience, which allows Fiat 500 Abarth drivers to learn how to maximize their driving skills with a full day of professional driving instruction.
The Fiat 500 Turbo was introduced in 2012 for driving enthusiasts who wanted the Italian style of the Fiat 500 with more power and performance for their daily drive. For the 2015 model year, the Fiat 500 Turbo will also offer the Aisin AW6F25 six-speed automatic transmission as an option to pair with the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine.
As one of the more affordable turbocharged vehicles available, the Fiat 500 Turbo amplifies the Cinquecento"s power, performance and personalization levels while keeping the character of the iconic Fiat 500.
"When it was launched two years ago, the Fiat 500 Turbo hit the sweet spot between the regular Fiat 500 and the high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth," said Stoicevich. "The availability of the automatic transmission now makes this sweet spot even sweeter, by expanding the Turbo"s appeal, particularly among young buyers who can now buy one of the most affordable turbocharged cars in the market with the convenience of an automatic transmission."
The Fiat 500 Turbo continues to offer a distinctive look, with an aggressively styled front fascia, bolder side skirts and unique 16-inch aluminum wheels. At the rear, a liftgate-mounted spoiler extends the roofline, while a black-accented rear diffuser optimizes airflow.
In addition to the optional automatic transmission offering for the 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Turbo models, the entire Fiat 500 lineup will receive interior updates for 2015, including an innovative instrument panel with a 7-inch high-definition display to help drivers easily monitor vehicle information.
FIAT - Life is Best When Driven. The FIAT brand stands for discovery through passionate self-expression. It encourages people to be in charge of their lives, live confidently and celebrate the smallest of things with infectious excitement. That philosophy is embodied by the North American introduction of the iconic Fiat 500 or Cinquecento - a small car that lives big. Italian at heart and rooted in a rich heritage, the Fiat 500 is synonymous with modern, simple design blending form, function and a pride of ownership that is genuine.
Reminiscent of the original Cinquecento, the Fiat 500 and Fiat 500c (Cabrio) build on the vehicle"s global popularity. Since its initial launch in 2007, more than 1,000,000 Fiat 500 vehicles have been sold in more than 100 countries around the world. In addition to success on the sales front, the Fiat 500 has earned more than 80 international awards, including being named the 2008 European Car of the Year, 2009 World Car Design of the Year and Best New Engine of 2010 (Fiat MultiAir® Turbo). In the U.S., the 2012 Fiat 500 was named "Best Buy" in the subcompact category by Consumers Digest and was deemed a "Top Safety Pick" by the influential Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This year, the 2013 Fiat 500 was named to the "10 Coolest New Cars Under $18,000" list by Kelley Blue Book"s KBB.com and the new 2014 Fiat 500L was recognized as a "Top Safety Pick" by IIHS.
The FIAT brand portfolio in North America continues to expand. In 2013, the FIAT brand launched the high-performance Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio, the fully-electric Fiat 500e and the Fiat 500L, an all-new five-passenger model that expands FIAT"s brand style and efficiency into the growing B-segment.
Two completely new Top of the range versions are making their début: the sophisticated 500 Star, for drivers seeking elegance on the road in its purest form and the bold 500 Rockstar, for those who adore the car"s sportier, wilder side.
To celebrate the brand"s 120th anniversary, Fiat customers who purchase the exclusive versions of the new 500 range will get up to 6 months of Apple Music to stream over 50 million songs ad-free.
More elegant, stylish and technological: the new Fiat 500 range is coming to showrooms now with more than a few updates. These include the two top-of-the-range new versions, Star and Rockstar, designed for the young and sophisticated customer.
Launched back in 1957 and relaunched in 2007, the evergreen Fiat 500 first "motorised" Europe and then completely revolutionised the city-car category, offering, for the very first time, a level of style and technological never seen before in this segment. And today, 12 years on, the new 500 takes yet another step forward, showing off its intrinsic vocation as a trendsetter.
In short, all the ingredients that sealed the fortune of this symbolic Made in Italy vehicle are present. And its hold over the European market is still as strong today: just think that in 2018 it registered its best progressive total ever with almost 194,000 new vehicle registrations (Fiat and Abarth) and last March it confirmed its status as the best-selling vehicle in its category, and the second best-selling car for the whole quarter, coming runner-up only to the equally extraordinary Fiat Panda.
Personality, style and exclusivity: the three unique characteristics of a car that continues to hit the headlines and is even easier to choose today. Indeed, starting from the 500 Pop - the "gate" that opens into the 500 world - the customer can immediately choose between two very different versions: one with a more elegant feel and the other with a sportier vibe. The first version comes in the stylish Lounge trim, expressing its personality most effectively in the new Star version, whereas the sportier spirit comes through in the bold 500 Sport and in the new and even more dynamic Rockstar. The range of standard equipment included with both new versions is plentiful and notably includes the Uconnect 7" HD LIVE touchscreen radio - which has Apple CarPlay support and is compatible with Android AutoTM - making every trip a unique, engaging experience. Additionally, from today, this sophisticated infotainment system is also supplied as standard on the 500 Lounge and on the 500 Sport, which also introduces new upholsteries.
All the trims of the new 500 are available in the hatchback and cabriolet versions while, depending on the markets, customers can choose the 1.2 69 HP petrol version (with Dualogic automatic transmission or manual gears), the 85 HP Twin Air engine and the 1.2 GPL version with 69 HP (both with manual transmission).
Keen to build on the impressive success achieved by the Lounge version, the Fiat brand has decided to create an even richer, more elegant trim: the Fiat 500 Star. One of the main new features of the new version is the brand new metallic White Stella finish, embellished with nuances of pink, a perfect match for the chromed details, 16-inch alloy wheels and Skydome glass roof, all offered as standard equipment, including fog lamps. The 500 Star is also available in the following liveries: Gelato White, Carrara Grey, Vesuvius Black, Pompei Grey, Opera Bordeaux, Colosseo Grey, Epic Blue, Ice White. Whatever colour you choose, the new range confirms the importance of the colour combinations for the Fiat icon: indeed colour is not just a question of look but a key part of a product philosophy that offers the maximum in terms of personalisation as one of its founding elements.
The exclusivity of the exteriors is also mirrored inside, with the brand new interiors of the Star version, the ultimate expression of style for the 500 range, which are available in two colour combinations, white sand and black, and in the elegant, new Matelassé finish with details in eco leather and a bordeaux embroidered 500 logo. And from today, the dashboard fascia, which until now was supplied in the same colour as the bodywork, can now be chosen in one of the two new shades; White Sand with a pearly finish or matt Bordeaux. In the centre of the dashboard, the digital instruments present stand out, including a 7-inch TFT screen, the largest in the category.
Dedicated to customers who want a vehicle with a bold personality, without forgoing an elegant look, the new 500 Rockstar version stands out from the pack with a style that combines the rugged aesthetic features of the Sport, visible in the front and rear bumpers and the side sills, with style details such as the fixed glass roof, 16-inch alloy wheels and the details on the bodywork in satin finish chrome. In addition, to enhance the sophisticated, dynamic soul of the new Rockstar version, a new colour for the exterior with a matt finish has been introduced: Green Portofino.
The interiors also mirror the elegant sporty feel of the exteriors and, as in the Star version, here too they are brand new. The central fascia of the seats makes a particularly striking impression, inspired by the pinstripe fabrics of the finest suits. All edged by the side panels, with grey or blue details and by the top part of the seat in black eco leather. Like the Star version, the new 500 Rockstar also offers the dashboard in two new colours: the brand new matt dark green shade and satin finish graphite. In the case of the dark green control panel, the details of the interiors are grey, whereas with the satin graphite version the interiors are blue. The passenger compartment is completed by the elegant chrome rocker panel and a 7-inch TFT monitor that provides all the information needed by the driver, including the data provided by the speedometer, tachometer and trip computer, which can all be read instantly and simultaneously. The monitor also displays the information provided by the UconnectTM system.
To celebrate its 120th anniversary, Fiat customers in Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria, Switzerland and in several other countries in the coming days, who purchase a vehicle from the new 500 range*, will receive a special gift: up to 6 months free of Apple Music**.
Fiat customers will be able to stream over 50 million songs ad-free and listen with premium BeatsAudio system***, giving drivers a never-ending playlist.
The in-car experience is also improved by Apple CarPlay, a smarter and safer way to use an iPhone in the car, enabling motorists to benefit from all the functions via the car"s built-in display.
With Apple CarPlay, Fiat customers can also use Siri voice control to make calls, send and receive messages, play audiobooks and podcasts, get directions optimized for traffic conditions and more.
Finally, an exclusive Fiat playlist on Apple Music entitled "120 Years of Songs" has been curated to celebrate Fiat"s 120th anniversary. Launched in March, the playlist will regularly refresh to reach a total of 120 songs by July, in time for the official anniversary of Fiat.
The 120 songs will span multiple countries and will include some of the soundtracks of Fiat"s most successful advertising campaigns, such as Freedom by Pharrell Williams, Just One Lifetime by Sting & Shaggy, On An Evening In Roma by Michael Bublé and Dynamite by Nicky Blitz.
**New Apple Music subscribers will receive six months free. Buyers already subscribed to Apple Music will receive three months free. Terms and conditions are available on local markets" Fiat website.
The system is compatible with Android AutoTM as well, to continue the Android experience in the car, by "projecting" apps and services on to the central display. It is designed to make retrieving information while driving easy and safe. The driver can use Google MapsTM or Waze to obtain route guidance and easily access music, multimedia contents and his or her favourite messaging apps.
FCA Bank, the joint venture of FCA Italy S.p.A. and Crédit Agricole Consumer Finance, supports the sales of prestigious brands in Italy and Europe, including Fiat, offering a wide range of financial solutions to facilitate customers in purchasing a new car.
In particular, during the launch period, anybody who wishes to get behind the wheel of the new 500 can benefit from the additional advantage of €1,200 combined with the FCA Bank instalment loan: the traditional sales financing plan that allows the buyer to pay for the vehicle easily with a flexible payment plan, by choosing from a range of different loan durations.
The 2015 Fiat 500 minicar blends practical fun and quirky cuteness, each quality chosen in just the right amount to win over urban commuters as well as those who want a small but distinctive second or third car. It"s an excellent city car for tiny parking places—and its personality can change from fuel-efficient to surprisingly sporty or entirely electric, depending on model chosen. All share a high enjoyment factor; the Fiat 500 is a car that makes owners and onlookers alike smile.
We"re particularly fond of the Abarth editions, which have picked up the nickname "Hellrat" (in homage to the new 707-hp "Hellcat" versions of the Dodge Charger and Challenger). The 500 Cabrio offers open-air runabout style without the hassle of putting down a full cloth top, and the 500e is an amazingly perky and sweet-handling electric car that"s regrettably unavailable to drivers outside California.
The pert, upright styling renders the 500 in simple, yet somehow characterful lines (and provides lots of chances for customization), making the Fiat 500 look like no other minicar. Its very small footprint and almost toy-like dimensions have already carved out an impression of the 500 for most Americans who"ve seen one. On the outside it manages to pull off short, tall hatchback proportions without looking awkward; and inside, it pulls off high style with relatively low-cost materials -- without necessarily looking it.
The Fiat 500 maxes out its interior space within its particularly small footprint, but the passenger package isn"t nearly as roomy as a Ford Fiesta, or even a MINI Cooper. Seats are well-formed, but they"re a bit on the short and firm side and we wish they didn"t push up so high, limiting headroom. For those who miss a real back seat, we recommend the 2015 Fiat 500L, which is covered by a different review. Perhaps confusingly, the 500L is almost entirely a different car, and actually built on a different platform.
The 500 is engaging to drive by almost any measure. Base cars get a 101-horsepower engine that"s not quite as peppy or perky as you"d expect in something with the 500"s design; but the Turbo models and their 135-hp engine are the ones that make good on the promises of the exterior. Above that, it"s the 160-horsepower Abarth that actually feels truly sporty, especially in the first three gears of this manual-transmission-only model. The Abarth also supplements that impression with an especially raucous exhaust note.
As you work up the power range, you also work up to more sporty visual cues and more firmly tuned suspensions. Even in the sporty Abarth, however, ride quality is quite good for a lightweight, short-wheelbase car. Throughout the lineup, you now have a choice between an automatic transmission or manual gearbox. Our driving time has exclusively been spent in manual versions, so far; but for 2015 the 500 Turbo, Abarth, and Abarth Cabrio models all gain the option of a six-speed automatic transmission.
For 2015, a new, 7-inch LCD display replaces the previous instrument cluster in every model except for the base Pop 500, where the display is optional. There are again three main variants: the 500, the 500C, and the 500 Abarth. Base 500 Pop models include a five-speed manual transmission, 15-inch wheels, air conditioning, a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack, power windows/locks/mirrors, and cruise control. With Sport models you get larger 16-inch wheels, a fixed glass roof, and a sport-tuned suspension and sport-bolstered seats. Fiat 500 Sport models revert to 15-inch wheels and hang on to the glass roof but add a six-speed automatic and rear park assist, along with satellite radio, premium speakers and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
You can also edit, in MultiECUScan, the TPMS calibration settings to prevent the low pressure warnings from going off. 99% of people do not need to do this, however, if you are installing this cluster in a 500T and using 500T tire pressures which are lower than Abarth pressures due to suspension differences, etc, you may get a low tire pressure warning. To resolve it, simply use Abarth tire pressures.
- A 2015+ TFT Cluster that has lower miles or kms than your current cluster. (You can get a cluster from an American or Candian car as you can switch the units to metric/imperial and it changes the odometer as well). No issues.
- It does not have to be an Abarth specific cluster, but it cannot be a 500e Cluster (although as BigDaddySRT tested, it works completely fine minus the 500e specific stuff)
Ok, so now that you have a cluster and it"s LOWER kilometers or miles than your current cluster, you have removed your current cluster and installed the new cluster. Everything seems to work out of the box except it might not be an Abarth cluster or, it"s in a base 500 mode missing some features. Also, the odometer is flashing and doesn"t match the mileage of your car.
This is where MultiECUScan comes into play. In MultiECUScan we need to write the kilometers to the cluster and perform a Proxi Alignment. It"s self explanatory, but in MES, go to the cluster section for the TFT cluster, change the kilometers to what your previous cluster had and write the changes. MAKE SURE you put in the CORRECT amount. YOU CANNOT wire the cluster to a LOWER value, it"s impossible with MES. If you have messed up, there is no fix, you will need to get another cluster or install your old cluster. I cannot stress this enough.
This will open a HEX editor-like window. This is basically what is getting written to the body control modules, CTM, etc when we do the Proxi Alignment. Find Byte 65, this is the byte that controls the TFT displays.
00 : This is the base 500 display. It has the crappy font from the base 500/500 sport and also features a Sport Mode. I personally do not like the font, gauge faces, drives me nuts, YMMV.
40 : This is the 500T display type. It features a digital turbo boost gauge (commanded boost) on the right side of the cluster in Sport Mode. I"ve been using this display for a little over 24 hours now and it works great.
- If you are running this display type in your Abarth, your OEM turbo boost gauge will be "turned off" as the 500T does not have this gauge. The cluster *runs* that turbo boost gauge. It won"t even light up. For those that have after market boost gauges in this spot, this may cause your aftermarket gauge to not get power or illuminate depending on how you wired it. This cluster uses the same font as the Abarth cluster. A+.
60 : This is the Abarth display type. It features a throttle position indicator in Sport Mode which does not work, Abarth branded Start Up/Shut Down screens and G-Force, which does not work. You can simply turn off G-Force and have it display tire pressure or the radio or average Kms to get around that issue. Not a big deal, but the throttle position gauge, there is not a fix for it yet. (This is why I switched to the 500T display type).
Note: The 2015 OEM Boost Gauge displays SPORT, not SHIFT UP like the 2014 and earlier models. In sport mode *SHIFT UP* will always be lit up on the boost gauge in Abarth mode. The solution is to replace the OEM boost gauge with a 2015 gauge (should be direct fit) or just ignore it haha.
Ok, so to recap, CTRL ALT C, find byte 65, change that byte to the display type you want (00, 20, 40 or 60), press OK, perform the Proxi Alignment Procedure.

Abarths have always positioned themselves as the personality winners within the Fiat vehicle portfolio. Trent Nikolic drives the 2022 Abarth 595 Competizione to find out whether it"s still a left-field choice that shouldn"t be seen as being quite as left-field as it is.
Those of you looking at the hot hatch segment might not have even considered the 2022 Abarth 595 Competizione. Its historic origins as an Italian take on the original Volkswagen Beetle – that is, a utilitarian car for the people – in the form of the Fiat 500 hides its ability to put a smile on your face at any speed.
I"ve always thought the Fiat 500, on which the Abarth is based, is a modern marvel in clever packaging. That is to say given the exterior size (it"s tiny), the cabin is actually practical for day-to-day work. It really is TARDIS-like in other words.
The driving position is upright and evokes memories of what an old Fiat 500 was like in a way. Some of you won"t like it, but I think it fits with the ethos of the car, which is practical and space-efficient. Again, the standard seats would enhance this.
You get a driver-focused, and some might say sport-focused, 7.0-inch TFT instrument binnacle, which displays what you need, but does feel old-school now. It doesn"t bother me, but if you"re comparing it back-to-back with a newer system, you"ll notice it. Like the infotainment system, though, it works reliably and doesn"t do anything silly. I found the gauges easy to read and you can set the steering wheel up neatly in relation to the gauges, even if you"re a taller driver.
The Abarth 595 range is currently untested by ANCAP, but the Fiat 500 on which the 595 is based was last tested in 2008 with a five-star result. Given that the test regime, and the requirement for driver assist tech, have advanced so far since then, there are no real parallels with current scores. The European test body equivalent, Euro NCAP, last tested the 500 in 2017 awarding it three stars.
Sales of Fiat’s cute little minicar have been on a downward spiral for the last couple of years in Canada, and the brand is hoping to shake things up by streamlining the range of trim levels and powertrains.
The 2017 Fiat 500 will be available in hatchback and cabrio body styles, and both will offer three trim levels, including base Pop, uplevel Lounge and performance-oriented Abarth. The Sport, Turbo and 1957 Edition models have been discontinued.
The disappearance of the 500 Turbo means the 135-hp version of the 1.4-litre, MultiAir four-cylinder engine is gone. Pop and Lounge trims are still equipped with a 101-hp, naturally aspirated engine, managed by either a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic.
The 2017 Fiat 500 Abarth is still available with its turbocharged, 1.4-litre four that develops 160 hp and 170 lb.-ft. of torque with the manual transmission, or 157 hp and 183 lb.-ft. with the automatic.
Although the Sport trim level is gone, a Sport Appearance Package is now offered on the 500 Pop. Basically, it’s the same as last year’s Sport, but without the sport-tuned suspension. The package adds body-colour front and rear fascias, a spoiler, side skirts, smoked headlight clusters, 16-inch alloy wheels and a seven-inch TFT cluster display for the driver.
In addition, the 2017 Fiat 500 Pop can be equipped with a power sunroof, a comfort and convenience group, an Alpine sound system and navigation, but they all require the Sport Appearance Package beforehand.
Otherwise, the 500 Pop gets new interior colours, new cloth seat upholstery and a passenger-side armrest. Meanwhile, all versions of the 500 Cabrio now feature much-needed rear park sonar as standard equipment, which is optional on the Hatchback as well.
The 500 Lounge includes leather-faced seating, heated front seats, chromed and heated mirrors, fog lamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, a glass roof on the Hatchback version as well as a few items that are optional on the Pop, such as air conditioning, a seven-inch TFT driver instrument cluster, a power sunroof, navigation and an Alpine stereo. The Lounge’s options list also includes a Beats Audio sound system.
Pricing for the 2017 Fiat 500, which will go on sale this fall, hasn’t been announced yet. However, the base MSRP should stay close to the 2016 edition’s rather high $18,995 entry price, before freight and delivery charges. The 500 Abarth should start at around $28K. In both cases, choosing the Cabrio instead of the Hatchback will cost an extra $4,000.
With nine months of year-over-year sales gains during 2013 and off to a great start in 2014, the tiny Fiat 500 is becoming increasingly popular nationwide, mostly because of its classic look and affordable price. Its 101-horsepower, inline-four engine won"t break any speed records, but this is where the brawnier Abarth version comes in. Yes, the Fiat 500 Abarth is being readied for the 2015 model year as we speak, with the high-performance city car scheduled to be showcased during the New York Auto Show->ke226 later this month, in both hatchback->ke304 and cabrio guises.
To keep the 500 Abarth appealing for 2015, the Italians have operated a number of interior and powertrain updates without altering the vehicle"s sporty character. In fact, the new transmission the 500 Abarth is set to receive promises to offer "an even more engaged driving experience."
Last time we drove the Fiat 500 Abarth we dubbed it "mini Ferrari". Now let"s find out if this little, turbocharged hatch is ready to carry its legacy even further.
If you"re familiar with the 2014 model, then you might as well prepare for a similar package for 2015. If you"re familiar with the 2014 model, then you might as well prepare for a similar package for 2015. There are no significant changes on the outside and it appears that the Abarth->ke2904 won"t benefit from the new paint colors introduced on the regular Fiat 500.
Changes become more obvious once we move into the cabin, where a slightly redesigned center console and an updated instrument panel are to be found. When the 500 Abarth is manhandled in Sport mode, the new seven-inch screen switches to a more aggressive display to with the vehicle"s assertive exhaust note. The latter incorporates a standard seven-inch TFT display that allows the driver to monitor and configure vehicle information, such as speed and fuel consumption, but it can also be used as a reverse camera in conjunction with the Rear Park Assist.
Lastly, Fiat->ke30 reshaped the cup holder and added a new USB port (integrated to the radio), while Bluetooth streaming audio complements the already available phone connectivity.
The 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth will hit showrooms floors with the same turbocharged 1.4-liter MultiAir engine under the hood. With no updates in store, the small unit delivers the same 160 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque that were available the previous year. The unit is zippy enough to propel the vehicle from naught to 60 mph in about 6.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 129 mph.
Although the powerplant remains unchanged, the 500 Abarth is gaining, for the first time, an optional six-speed automatic transmission provided by Aisin. To enable the gearbox to cope with the Abarth"s higher torque, the unit has been reinforced with more clutch plates before being connected to the engine.
There"s no pricing info at the time of this writing, but the 2015 500 Abarth should cost about $23,000 before any options, while the Cabrio version is expected to begin at $27,000. The automatic transmission option is likely to fetch between $1,500 and $2,000.
The former retails from $19,950, while the latter begins at $23,600. You don"t need to be scientist to conclude that the Mini Cooper S outguns the 500 Abarth in terms of hp per buck, but don"t forget that the British vehicle can become quite pricey once you check a few boxes on the options list.
Park a Fiat 500 Abarth near a 2014 Ford->ke31 Fiesta ST and you"ll notice two things. The latter is slightly larger and has an extra pair of doors. Needless to say, that could pass as an advantage, but on the other hand, the Fiesta lacks the 500"s classic appeal. In the end, it"s a matter of taste and needs.
Only one engine is available with the Fiesta ST: a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-pot that generates 197 horsepower and 202 pound-feet of torque. This powerful four-pot enables the Fiesta ST to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds -- just slightly quicker than the 500 Abarth. Top speed is electronically-limited at 130 mph. Pricing starts at $21,400, but you"ll have to pay more if you want Recaro seats and a power moonroof.
Fiat is obviously trying to broaden its U.S. customer base by adding an automatic transmission to the sprightly 500 Abarth. While we understand the business case behind an auto, we can"t help but recommend the 2015 Abarth with a manual. At least take them both for a test drive before you sign a check. The interior upgrades are welcomed, but what we"d like to see on this Fiat are a couple of new, lively colors to go with its funky character.
