A new high resolution, 8.0" Lite+ TFT display has been introduced by industrial LCD manufacturer, KOE. The TX20D201VM2BAB features WXGA resolution (1280x768px) with a 16:9 wide aspect ratio. The 8.0" display has a pixel pitch of 0.13575x0.13575mm, which equates to a pixel density of 187ppi (pixels per inch). The new TX20D201VM2BAB display module is mechanically compatible with existing KOE 8.0" WVGA (800x480px) TX20D33VM2BAA, TX20D34VM2BAA, and TX20D34VM2BAB display modules.
The high resolution WXGA (1280x768px) TFT display provides a significantly higher pixel density - an increase of 60% - when compared with industry standard 8.0" WVGA displays with 117ppi.
The display brightness is specified at 900cd/m², and combined with a contrast ratio of 500:1, the Lite+ display produces images that are bright, clear and concise. The white LED backlight, features a 50,000 hours to half brightness lifetime specification.
Jason Tsai, Marketing Manager, KOE, said: "Many infotainment and user interface applications are demanding higher resolution displays to enable accurate reproduction of images and video to be presented. The new 8.0" WXGA display allows KOE to embrace the increasing market demand for high performance, high resolution displays."
A 20 pin LVDS interface supports 6 or 8-bit RGB colour data which enables a colour palette of 262,000 or 16.7 million colours respectively. The 8.0" display module has mechanical outline dimensions of 189.0x120.0x7.5mm and an active LCD area of 173.76x104.26mm. The display has an operating and storage temperature range of -30 to 80°C. The module weighs 160g.
KOE"s Lite+ TFT modules offer cost effective LCD solutions that feature industry standard screen sizes, display resolutions and data interfaces but without any compromise in display optical performance. Lite+ display modules offer high brightness display characteristics and are suitable for use in bright ambient environments.
The new 8.0" WXGA display is suited for industrial user interface, security, medical, and infotainment applications where a high resolution display is required to accurately represent display images and information, and video reproduction. The new KOE TX20D201VM2BAB Lite+ display module is available immediately through KOE"s distribution sales channel partners.
The provided display driver example code is designed to work with Microchip, however it is generic enough to work with other micro-controllers. The code includes display reset sequence, initialization and example PutPixel() function.
If driving the backlight of the C version display with 12 Volts and a series resistor, substituting a D version display will not work since the four LEDs need more than 12 Volts to get the same current flowing.
The DT022BTFT uses the same connections as the DT022CTFT, with the exception of the backlight (which has connections shown in the Displaytech datasheet).
The provided display driver example code is designed to work with Microchip, however it is generic enough to work with other micro-controllers. The code includes display reset sequence, initialization and example PutPixel() function. Keep the default values for all registers in the ILI9341, unless changed by the example code provided.
Note that the WR pin becomes the D/CX signal in serial mode. CS is used to initiate a data transfer by pulling it low. At the end of the data transfer, pull the CS pin high to complete the transaction. The timing diagram indicates that you can pull the CS pin high in between the command byte and data bytes within a transfer, but it is unlikely needed if the display is the only device on the SPI bus. To keep things simple, we suggest to leave it low during the entire transaction.
