vespa tft display made in china
Vespa scooters have been gracing streets around the world for years! Spawned out of a world war, it’s an obvious questions – are Vespa scooters still made?
They are icons that represent the Italian culture. Vespas are unique, luxurious, and reliable scooters. Vespa scooters are well-known, and over 1.6 million have been sold worldwide.
This company is an Italian scooter, motorcycle & moped manufacturer that produces sturdy vehicles under seven brand names, among which Vespa is one of them. The names of the other six brands are; Aprilia, Derbi, Gilera, Moto Guzzi, Scarabeo, and Piaggio.
Vespas intended for European and American sales are still primarily assembled from their facility in the town if Pontedera, Tuscany, Italy which is near Pisa. Depending on the market and model, they are also sourced from global facilities that include in China, India, and Vietnam.
Vespa was founded in 1946 after the second world war. Coradino D’Ascanio invented the first 98cc scooter, and later that year, a 125cc Vespa scooter was invented.
They eventually split & opened their own Vespa-branded dealership in 1955, but competition, lawsuits, and the desire for more environmentally friendly regulations led to a gap in sales in the US from 1981-2001.
“Vespa is much more than a mobility brand; it symbolises art, design, technology, and fun”Michele Colaninno, Piaggio Group Board Director for Strategy, Products, and Innovation source
Vespa definitely has plenty of vintage scooters running around, but they continue to innovate with their iconic designs with a model line-up that also includes an electric scooter now.
This Vespa model is the first scooter model that was regarded as classic, and you’ll find it working the retro yet modern vibes still. This line-up has the most color from Vespa including mostly non-black seat covers.
Touring is the standard version of the model except a front and rear rack along with a small windshield are included. If you were to add Vespa branded racks and windshield on a standard model, you’d spend more, but the Touring comes in a single color – currently a gray.
Designed with one of the most powerful engines, but if you’ve spent anytime on the Vespawebsite, you’ll see they classify the GTS and the GTS Super as completely different models. Both have the same engine and are the large frame.
SuperTech models refer to the Bluetooth technology via an app called ‘MIA’ that includes a TFT display system. The engine displacement, however, remains the same as non-Super Tech models
Vespa decided to go into the electric field with this model. It is rechargeable with a 220V outlet for 4 hours and can run silently for over 60 miles. This model comes with the Super Tech Bluetooth connectivity using its TFT displace and Vespa MIA feature which means you can connect it to your smartphone.
With over 75 years of scooter manufacturing, Vespa is certainly a world-renowned, luxurious Italian brand that sets a bar that other scooter brands have followed.
Vespa shouts luxury and is particular about the aesthetics of the scooters. However, they still prioritize the efficiency and power of the engine, the sturdiness of the scooter’s frame, and the overall riding experience.
Nope, think a bit smaller than that, because another Italian brand that attaches the letters GTS to its wares is Piaggo, and the iconic Vespa scooter. And while it doesn’t make the best part of 800 horsepower like an 812 GTS, the latest Vespa GTS is still the most powerful model the company has ever made.
In fact, with 23bhp at its disposal, the 278cc GTS is more powerful than some classic cars we’ve featured recently; the 1963 2CV we tried back in April made just 18bhp. The Vespa does it with just a single four-stroke cylinder too, using Piaggio’s 300 HPE (‘High Performance Engine’) unit, which also promises lower than ever emissions.
The iconic shape – which no longer exactly matches the original two-stroke Vespas of the 1940s, but has remained somewhat similar since the mid-2000s – remains constructed from steel.
The seat is supposedly improved too, with space for two (or, depending on the market, many more), while those who’ve stepped away from step-throughs for a few years might be surprised to learn the GTS offers features like keyless ignition, remote locking of the seat storage and the steering column, and a TFT instrument display.
Two years after it was announced, the first all-electric Vespa scooter is about to go on sale in Europe, and parent company Piaggio has finally shared the starting price: €6,390, or a little over $7,300. That’s nearly twice as expensive as some of the cheapest gas-powered Vespas. Preorders are available now in Europe ahead of the scooter’s ship date later this year, while customers in the US and China will have to wait until early 2019.
The Vespa Elettrica, as it’s called, has about 62 miles of range, takes about four hours to fully charge from a standard wall outlet, and the battery pack should last for about 10 years’ worth of riding. It offers peak power of 4kW, or about 5.2 horsepower, which is roughly the same as a 50cc scooter (though with about three times less range than its gas-powered counterpart). There’s also a 4.3-inch TFT color display in between the handlebars.
The electric Vespa felt more like a rare addition to the scooter scene when it was announced in 2016. But in the time it’s taken Piaggio to come to market, a number of electric scooters have hit the streets, from both startups and incumbents. Chinese startup Niu (not to be confused with the electric car company NIO) has launched a full lineup of electric scooters in its home country. Taiwan’s largest maker of two-wheelers, Kymco, finally bought into electric drivetrains this year with a scooter that uses swappable batteries. Yamaha and Honda have partnered on the development of an electric scooter, too. And 2015 CES darling Gogoro has spread its electric scooters, which can be both bought and shared, to a number of different countries in Asia and Europe.
The Elettrica was announced way back in 2016, but it"s finally ready to go on sale in Piaggio"s native Europe, with plans to bring it to the US and China in early 2019, the company announced Monday. The cost for ditching the cute gasoline engine is kind of high at around $7,300 -- a little less than twice the price of a similarly performing Vespa Primavera 50.
The Elettrica"s 62-mile range sounds good but when you consider that a 50cc Vespa will offer a range roughly three times that thanks to a somewhat mind-boggling 90 miles-per-gallon fuel economy rating, it"s less impressive. Piaggio has talked about adding a small engine to the Elettrica, making it a hybrid with a further 124 miles of range, but details on that are slim.
Ending the year on a high note, Italian scooter brand Vespa has begun the final quarter of the year introducing the new GTS models. The range has four new variants with two engine options: GTS, GTS Super, GTS Super Sport, and GTS Super Tech.
In August, Piaggio, the maker of Vespa, rolled out a special edition of the two-wheeler in the domestic market on completing 75 years of the iconic brand.
The all new Vespa GTS is available in two engines, the 125 i-GET and the 300 HPE. Both are fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder units. The highlight of 300 HPE is its 23hp peak power output.
GTS is a full-metal body with its instantly recognisable Vespa design. For 2023, a few little tweaks were made. The company has introduced 14 colour choices across four models.
The Vespa GTS Super, GTS Supersport and GTS Supertech are equipped with keyless start/stop as well as remote seat opening functions. They also get a Bike Finder feature that helps locate the scooter in a crowded parking lot using the remote key fob. Both the GTS Supersport and GTS Supertech models also has smartphone connectivity.
Pressrelease | Piaggio Group’s new electric mobility technology now appears in the unique and iconic Vespa design. Vespa Elettrica is here and completes an evolutionary process that started just over 70 years ago.
Like a living organism, Vespa’s evolutionary path was set at its birth and now electrical power arrives as a natural stage in an extraordinarily logical journey. No vehicle in the world is now as in line with zero-emission propulsion as Vespa and electrical mobility has never been so fascinating, full of style and elegance.
This is because Vespa Elettrica is not an electric scooter, it is Vespa Elettrica, it is a contemporary work of art with a technological heart. It comes to life bringing the Vespa world in tow, its image and its values, its eco-friendly soul, now even more sensitive to the surrounding urban environment. And with the adoption of Vespa’s electric technology it is even more of an icon of our time, a symbol of contemporaneity and the future.
Vespa Elettrica means easy, but natural, riding. It means total connectivity and silence, customisation and accessibility, values that have always belonged to Vespa and that today find their total realisation.
Absolute attention to the environment, multiple interface functions and connectivity with human beings and the environment, fully digital instrument panel, a modern and technological electric motor, perfect for city environments, combine with the classic Vespa design. Thus, Vespa Elettrica takes shape as part of a tradition of continuous innovation, as the cutting-edge of Piaggio Group’s research into electric mobility, to respond to increasing environmental awareness with the aim of providing technological solutions for an increasingly sustainable and liveable urban habitat. For a total answer to the growing demand for clean mobility, Vespa Elettrica also appears in the X version, which, combining a generator with the electric motor, doubles its range by always recharging of the batteries. Vespa Elettrica will be wholly produced in Pontedera and will venture forth from there for worldwide distribution in 2018. It can be ordered online from spring 2018.
The heart of Vespa Elettrica is a Power Unit capable of delivering a continuous power of 2 kW and a peak power of 4 kW: values that, combined with a torque of over 200 Nm, provide a performance superior to that of a traditional 50cc scooter, especially as regards acceleration that benefits from the typical brilliant output of electric motors. It delivers an agile and enjoyable ride on the urban routes, in total silence: Indeed, Vespa Elettrica is completely silent, helping to make cities less chaotic and more liveable by also countering noise pollution.
Vespa Elettrica guarantees a maximum range of 100 km, which is not much different for urban riding, with its frequent “stop and go”. This is possible thanks to a modern lithium-ion battery and an efficient energy recovery system (KERS, Kinetic Energy Recovery System), which recharges when decelerating. Charging operations are the simplest thing imaginable: the lithium-ion battery, just like the one in modern smartphones, needs no special precautions. For charging you just need to extract the cable from the seat compartment, where the fuel cap is usually located, and attach the plug to a normal wall outlet or one of the ever-increasing number of public charging station in big cities. The time required for a full charge is 4 hours.
In further confirmation of the extreme usability of Vespa Elettrica, the engine and battery pack do not require any maintenance. The battery provides excellent efficiency for up to 1000 full charging cycles. This translates into a range of between 50,000 and 70,000 km, equivalent to approximately 10 years of use of a vehicle created for urban commuting. After the thousand cycles, the battery still has 80% of its capacity and is perfectly usable. Located under the helmet compartment, the compact battery pack does not compromise the functionality of the Vespa Elettrica seat compartment, which can hold a Jet helmet.
The Ride by Wire electronic accelerator controls the output of the Vespa Elettrica motor. By pressing the RIDING MODE button on the right hand side of the handlebar, the rider can choose between two riding modes: ECO and Power, in addition to Reverse mode for easier handling of Vespa Elettrica while manoeuvering. In ECO mode, aimed at saving energy, you obtain more battery life; speed is limited to 30 km/h and acceleration is more gradual. However, Power is the basic riding mode which exploits all the power of the engine.
Vespa Elettrica is not just a silent, ecological and technologically advanced vehicle; It is also, and above all, connected.: The many features offered by a new version of the Vespa Multimedia Platform, the multimedia system that connects the smartphone to the vehicle, can be managed through a completely new man-machine interface incorporating a digital instrument panel with a 4.3 inch colour TFT display, always easy to read thanks to the twilight sensor that adapts the background and colour of the characters to the light conditions (day/night mode) and the four-levels of brightness adjustment.
The extensive information displayed is arranged in a very impressive and extremely rational graphic diagram. The centre of the screen always contains the main information such as speed, selected riding modes, residual range in km and battery charge (%), while on either side there are the quality indicators of ecological riding and the level of power used. But it is using the dedicated Vespa Elettrica App on your smartphone and connecting it to the vehicle – via bluetooth – that lets you take full advantage of the capabilities of the TFT display on which all notifications of incoming calls and messages appear, highly visible in the centre.
The system also allows you to use the keys on the handlebars to answer calls and to use the smartphone’s voice commands to make calls or play music by activating a playlist. To fully enjoy all these features, easily managed through the handy joystick MODE on the right control block, Vespa Elettrica offers as an accessory a special dedicated Jet helmet with integrated internal earphones and bluetooth intercom.
The strong ability to connect to the outside world is not limited, of course, to the various Infotainment functions. Once connected to the Vespa Elettrica, your smartphone uses its dedicated App to function as an exceptional source of useful information about the state of the vehicle. One of them uses the Vespa Elettrica GPS/GSM geo-localisation module, which is therefore always remotely localisable.
Vespa Elettrica is also available in the X version, with a range of up to 200 km thanks to its petrol driven generator that, depending on riding style, saves battery charge. To make room for the generator and its fuel tank (3 litres), Vespa Elettrica X uses a smaller battery pack that, with the generator off, provides a range of up to 50 km. The generator adds another 150 km to the range, bringing it up to 200 km, a figure that also makes Vespa Elettrica suitable for out of town riding.
Vespa Elettrica maintains is designed with the same unmistakable lines that have made Vespa a worldwide icon of style and elegance and have won the hearts of entire generations of young people.
The body shapes, strictly in steel as in the Vespa tradition, are emphasised by an exclusive dedicated livery: Vespa Elettrica comes in a special chrome grey finish with metallic reflections, around which the customer can choose to tailor many distinctive details. The profile that runs along the entire perimeter of the shield, the “necktie” fingers, the border of the wheel rims, the profile of the “Vespa” nameplate and the seat trim are in fact available in seven colour variants: Azzurro Elettrico (standard on Vespa Elettrica), Rame (standard on Vespa Elettrica X), Cromo, Giallo Lampo, Verde Boreale, Nero Profondo and Nero Fumo. A further personal touch comes from the possibility of adding a special label to the leg shield back plate with your own name. Plus, in line with the concept of customised “total look”, there is a special Jet helmet exclusively for Vespa Elettrica, in the vehicle livery and finishes, all in the colour chosen by the customer. This helmet stands out not only for style but also technological content, integrating bluetooth earphones to use the smartphone and listen to music through the Vespa Multimedia Platform.
The new front headlight with LED technology and a revised rear light give a distinct and distinct personality to Vespa Elettrica, which adopts generous 12″ front and 11″ rear aluminum alloy rims. A seat made of a new material provides greater comfort for rider and passenger and better ergonomics. The remote control key integrates the Bike Finder functions (remote direction indicators) and the opening of the seat compartment, while the inside of the compartment in the leg shield back plate contains a USB socket for charging smartphones or other mobile devices.
As with every Vespa, the Vespa Elettrica offers a full range of accessories: The dedicated top box, completely painted in the same colour as the vehicle and enriched by the chromed Vespa badge, can hold a full-face helmet. The top box can be finished with a backrest, covered in the same material as the seat. The chromed base on which the top box is mounted can also be used as a carrier. An extra touch of elegance is provided by the seat and backrest made of genuine Italian leather, subjected to a special protective treatment for a high level of quality over time.
The highest protection is provided by a windshield made of high quality anti-splinter methacrylate, customised with the Vespa logo; the stanchions are made with a chrome finish in line with the other aesthetic details. Vespa Elettrica can also be equipped with a top fairing – available both transparent and smokey – that elegantly rounds off the front design of the vehicle.
For Vespa Elettrica, front and rear chrome luggage racks are also available, among Vespa’s most classic accessories. The front side and rear chrome mudguards elegantly finish the vehicle and protect the bodywork.
The accessory line also includes the special Vespa Elettrica hi-tech Jet helmet, customisable to match the vehicle’s colour, combining style and the utmost practicality, integrating bluetooth earphones to maximise the potential of the Vespa Multimedia Platform. Combined with the helmet, the goggles sport mirrored lenses derived from the world of skiing and other new finishes.
Another novelty is the original LED backlit backpack with removable inner pocket for the top box and back protector with integrated helmet pocket. Equipped with a special notebook compartment and a power bank for charging mobile devices, the backpack is also available in an innovative reflective fabric referencing Vespa Elettrica’s typical chrome grey colour.
The Vespa Elettrica accessory line is also enriched by the convenient side-stand – in black-painted steel – which makes it easier to park, a weather-resistant cover and an indoor “big logo” one, both equipped with comfortable openings to accommodate any accessories, and a non-slip rubber mat.
An electronic alarm is available for Vespa Elettrica as is a mechanical saddle and wheel lock and a line of customised security devices. The essential mittens and leg covers are practical and fast to fit, made of thermal material offering excellent weather protection. The leg cover of the Vespa Elettrica carries the Vespa logo in metal and provides maximum stability even at high speeds. The saddle cover and anti-theft device are integrated in the accessory.
Just as Vespa has always been, responding to the desire for mobility of entire generations, Vespa Elettrica is again at the forefront of a revolution, completely changing the approach to the world of electric vehicles.
Extremely easy to use, Vespa Elettrica is also easily accessible for anyone wishing to embrace a totally new type of transport but to do so in style, making everything simpler and more efficient thanks to an innovative purchase scheme that includes a range of exclusive services. Piaggio Financial Services was created to make it easier than ever to purchase the Vespa Elettrica and all Piaggio Group products.
So the loan can be customised in a wide range of ways. The customer can buy Vespa Elettrica for a monthly fee that, in addition to the vehicle purchase tax, includes insurance coverage, maintenance, and a telephone and customer care service specifically dedicated to Vespa Elettrica owners.
A package that allows you to enjoy Vespa Elettrica with peace of mind, not having to think about all the additional costs, including management and maintenance costs.
The TFT or Thin-Film Transistor display not only offers improved gauge legibility and readability, but it also brings enhanced smartphone connectivity thanks to the VESPA MIA system.
The VESPA MIA and the new Vespa App are specifically designed to connect either iOS or Android mobile devices. Once a smartphone is connected to the system, it will show all notifications regarding incoming calls and messages in the center of the screen. The system also allows for the management of calls using a joystick located on the left-hand control block. The app can also display vehicle status, riding parameters, and travel stats.
Aside from the new TFT display, the 2021 Vespa Sprint S TFT edition is characterized by a dedicated diamond-shaped saddle, brand-new body stickers, new wheels (matte black or bronze), and new finishing colors.
The Vespa Sprint S continues to be characterized by its rectangular headlight, now with LED lighting for both front and back, and large 12-inch aluminum wheels.
The 2021 Vespa Sprint S is driven by a one-cylinder four-stroke 150-cc iGet engine. The air-cooled 3-cylinder EFI engine makes 9.5 kw (12.9 horsepower) at 7,750 rpm and 12.8 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. It features a barometric sensor in its control yet that helps it deliver steady levels of power and torque under all conditions and altitudes.
Vespa says this is the most powerful motor ever installed on one of their two-wheelers, and that you can reach up to 80 MPH. One doesn’t buy a Vespa to do 80, but it’s nice to know if you want that kind of zip, it’s there. It also happens to be particularly gorgeous, for a couple of reasons.
Traditional gauges have been updated with new, Bluetooth-enabled 4.3 inch TFT display. Go for the SuperTech 300 GTS model and you’ll get interconnectivity between your smart phone and the scooter’s “Mia” app. There, you’ll map out destinations via GPS, program your tunes or other audio content and other media directly on your dashboard. Mileage is a very healthy 73 MPG on a 2.24 US gallon tank, delivering you a range of about 160 miles each fill-up.
The LCD main meter’s design is small, as they will be in most scooters, but the information is available thanks to the meter’s square shape and a separate screen. The main meter displays date, time, oil-change indicator, fuel meter, odometer, A and B trip meters, speedometer, instant fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, air temperature, battery voltage and fuel meter. A separate sub-meter displays turn signals, high beam, coolant temperature and fuel injection. Another fun aspect is that the taillight is separate from rear turn signals, and incorporates an “X” design that expresses the crossover concept.
The Vespa Sprint S with TFT screen now takes connectivity features to a new level for the scooter brand. Available in an exclusive Bronze Antico and Black Opaco it boasts a new saddle design plus 150 cc iGet engine
The Bronze Antico steel body is enhanced by the contrasting black finishing, while the Black Opaco with bronze finishing offers an alternative option. The diamond-shaped saddle design joins the enhanced connectivity of the Vespa Mia system.
Vespa Mia and the new Vespa App are specifically designed to connect iOS or Android devices. Once a smartphone is connected to the Vespa Sprint S – associating the phone via the dedicated Vespa App (available for download in the App Store or Google Play) – the TFT display will display all notifications regarding incoming calls and messages. The system also allows for the management of calls, thanks to the intuitive joystick conveniently located on the left-hand switchblock.
The app is also a source of useful information regarding vehicle status, riding parameters and travel statistics, which can be viewed via the Vespa App.
Also the matt black (on bronze body) and bronze (on black body) are also the latest addition to Vespa’s rims collection, with 12-inch aluminium alloys.
The new Vespa GTS Super Tech represents the top and most powerful model ever seen on a Vespa. GTS SuperTech is the first large-bodied Vespa to adopt a fully digital instrument cluster with 4.3" full colour TFT display. The instrument panel, as well as displaying all the classic information such as speed, total and partial mileage, ambient temperature, and fuel level, works as a display for the VESPA MIA smartphone connectivity system.
The new GTS Super Tech is equipped with the latest evolution of the 300 cc 4-stroke, 4-valve single-cylinder engine, liquid-cooled and with electronic injection now designated HPE. It is the reward of ongoing engine design improvements by the Piaggio Group Research and Development Centre. The HPE benefits from numerous improvements increasing performance and rideability, while reducing fuel consumption and noise levels. HPE is the most powerful engine ever fitted to a Vespa with optimised thermodynamic performance and reduced friction; all without impacting on visible size, which is contained to similar dimensions to the previous unit.
Aesthetically, Vespa GTS SuperTech is characterised by wheel rims that have a special matte black finish together with yellow details such as horn cover decorations, stickers and front shock spring serves as an original element that contrasts with the two available colours of Black Vulcano and Grey Materia.
Riding experience will be even more satisfying and fun to stay connected with the USB charging port inside under-saddle compartment and the VESPA MIA connectivity system. An exciting mix of handling and stability, also thanks to the generous section tyres fitted on 12 inch diameter wheel rims. The double-disc braking system (ABS) and the electronic traction control (ASR) which prevents wheelspin ensures prompt deceleration and safety, on different road conditions during your daily commute.
