Since its landmark release in 1983, the Casio G-Shock has represented perhaps the watch world’s purest expression of high technology blended with trendsetting style at a price accessible to just about everyone. Over its nearly 40 years on the market, the original “world’s toughest watch” has become a brand all its own, with its own hardcore cadre of collectors, expanding into various designs in its digital, analog, and ana-digi versions; introducing new, cutting-edge technologies for its case and bracelet materials as well as its electronic timekeeping; and recently, even embracing the artisanal crafts of its native Japan for a series of special editions. In ascending order of price, beginning below $100 and reaching into the high four figures for the most exclusive, collectible pieces, here are 15 G-Shock watches available now that are worth adding to your collection (not to mention a few you’ll probably just want to wear a lot).
The familiar and very affordable DW5600 version of the G-Shock is the model on the market now that most closely replicates the design language of the first G-Shock from 1983, aka the DW-5000. While it’s available in hundreds of variations (a few of them spotlighted below), the basic black rectangular model is what most people envision as the classic, no-frills G-Shock. Its durable resin case boasts a 200-meter water resistance (standard on G-Shocks, actually) and its digital functions include a 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, multi-function alarm, a full calendar accurate to 2099, and an electro-luminescent backlight with afterglow.
Price: $69.95, Reference:DW9052-1B, Case Size: 48.5mm x 43, Case Height: 14.7mm, Crystal: Mineral, Water Resistance: 200 meters, Movement: Quartz Digital
Also on the most affordable end of the wide range of G-Shock models is the DW9052, for many years standard issue at the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center in Panama City Beach, Florida, assigned to divers along with their fins, masks, and knives. Built to be virtually indestructible, Its tough military functionalities include a backlight, 200 meters of water resistance, a 1/100-second stopwatch, alarms, a full auto calendar, and both 12-and 24-hour timekeeping. G-Shocks have long been go-to gear for military and law enforcement operators and this model is a large reason why.
Bearing design elements that call to mind the famous Royal Oak from Audemars Piguet (hence the nickname), the GA2110ET series, released in 2019, speaks both to the G-Shock’s own mass-market hordes of enthusiasts and to knowledgeable, traditionalist fans of luxury watches who appreciate an affordable “homage” for the wrist. Now encompassing a variety of colors, with resin (and a few stainless steel) cases built in the brand’s Carbon Core Guard structure, the GA-2100 models sport an analog-digital display that covers the whole gamut of G-Shock functions, from stopwatch to alarms to full auto calendar to double LED lighting. Another useful feature: the built-in “hand shift” that moves the analog hands when they’re obstructing the digital readouts. You canfind more G-Shock CasiOak Watches here(factory and custom made).
One of six models released as part of G-Shock’s “Transparent Pack” in 2021, the DW5600SKE-7 re-interprets the classic rectangular-cased G-Shock in a see-through semi-transparent resin case mounted on a clear, articulated resin strap. The digital display beneath the mineral crystal face is enhanced by an electro-luminescent (EL) backlight and the watch is extremely lightweight and adjustable for comfort while also packing the usual array of functions, including flash alerts for alarms and hourly time signals, a chronograph with 1/100-second precision, and a countdown that can be set up to 24 hours.
Price: $130, Reference: GBA900RD-4A, Case Size: 51.3mm ×48.9mm, Case Height: 16.6 mm, Crystal: Mineral, Water Resistance: 200 meters, Crystal: Mineral, Movement: Quartz Solar
“G-Shock Move” is the name given to the subfamily within the larger G-Shock series that features fitness- and activity-tracking applications in addition to the usual assortment of timing features. The new “Burning Red” edition of the GBA900 is particularly head-turning, not just for the vibrant crimson colorway of its durable resin case but for the high-tech goodies packed inside, like Bluetooth functionality, dual and world time, full calendar, and built-in trackers for speed, pace, mileage, and calories burned, making it not just a timekeeper but a compact, digital personal trainer at a fraction of the cost of a human one.
Price: $320, Reference:GSTB400-1A, Case Size: 46.6mm x 49.6mm, Case Height: 12.9mm, Crystal: Mineral, Water Resistance: 200 meters, Movement: Quartz Solar
G-Shocks have never been known for their slenderness, but even the world’s toughest watch line is bound to respond to watch-world trends toward more modest dimensions. The GSTB400-1A model from the metal-cased G-Steel collection launched in 2021 as the world’s slimmest G-Shock, at 12.9mm. Its thinness results from a clever redesign of the watch’s inner module, though the brushed-finish steel case remains quite a bold presence on the wrist at nearly 50mm in diameter. The watch is tricked out with all the high-tech elements of a modern G-Shock,including solar charging, Bluetooth connectivity, extreme shock and pressure resistance, a world timer, a 1/100thsecond chronograph, five alarms, and a fully automatic perpetual calendar.
Price: $500, Reference:GMWB5000RD-4, Case Size: 49.3mm x 43.2mm, Case Height: 13mm, Crystal: Sapphire, Water Resistance: 200 meters, Movement: Quartz Analog Solar
From the recently launched and somewhat more upscale-targeted Full Metal collection comes the GMWB5000RD-4, with a red ion-plated (IP) finish on its rectangular case, bezel, and bracelet. Another ultra-modern model that takes its cues from the original G-Shock from 1983, the watch has the classical brick-pattern digital display on its inverted LCD dial and a Super LED illuminator to read the time and the watch’s array of other functions (stopwatch, countdowns, world time display, daily alarms) in low light. The model’s Bluetooth connectivity allows it to pair with a smartphone through the G-Shock app, allowing for two-way time sync functionality, while the brand’s Multi-Band 6 Atomic Timekeeping technology uses radio signals from up to six transmitters worldwide to provides ultra-precise, to-the-second timekeeping.
Price: $800, Reference: GWG 2000-1A1, Case Size: 61.2mm x 54.4mm, Case Height: 16.1mm, Crystal: Sapphire, Water Resistance: 200 meters, Movement: Quartz Solar
Among the toughest of the tough-across-the-board G-Shock line are the Mudmaster models from the adventure-oriented Master of G collection. The GWG2000 we showcase here is one of the thinnest in the series (at 16.1mm; we’re still talking G-Shock here) and is also notable for its use of a forged carbon bezel. The bezels, which areformed by kneading finely crushed carbon fibers into a resin and then heat-pressing it into a mold, add another layer of ruggedness to the Carbon Core Guard case, which is engineered to be highly mud-and-dust-proof for its intended wearers, who work in extreme environments and encounter daunting levels of debris. In addition to the full range of G-Shock functions and technology, the watch has a new, more resistant structure for its knurled side buttons and comes on a textured strap that resembles the hand grips on heavy machinery.
Price: $1,200, Reference:MTGB2000YBD, Case Size: 55.1mm x 49.8mm, Case Height: 15.9mm, Crystal: Mineral, Water Resistance: 200 meters, Movement: Quartz Solar
The sleek black-and-red color scheme of this watch from the high-end, “Metal Twisted” MT-G collection is noteworthy for the lightweight wearability and relative thinness of its large case, which is composed ofa multi-layer carbon bezel frame housing a monocoque inner case: it is G-Shock’s first application of this technology in a production timepiece. The bezel frame is constructed of 235 sheets of layered and machined carbon and glass fiber, making it about 77% lighter than a similar bezel made of stainless steel. Another top-layer carbon sheet wrapped around the sides of the watch at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock provides further strength, and the lugs are extra durable thanks to the addition of cylindrical carbon sheets wrapped around them at critical points. The metal parts of the composite case features G-Shock’s special Sallaz polishing on their beveled surfaces, and the composite bracelet adds to the weight reduction with hollowed steel parts crafted from a metal injection molding process.
Price: $1,200, Reference:MTGB1000DCM-1, Case Size: 55.8mm x 51.7mm, Case Height: 14.4mm, Crystal: Sapphire, Water Resistance: 200 meters, Movement: Quartz Solar
Another recent release from the MT-G series, the MTGB1000DCM-1 deftly mixes high-tech sleekness with military-issue aesthetics. The watch has around camo-printed case reinforced by carbon fiber within a stainless steel core guard structure and makes a bold statement with its complex analog dial under a sapphire crystal and its use of the G-Shock “Triple G Resist” technology, which renders it shock-resistant enough to stand up to just about any hard knocks to which a wearer would expose it. Its toolbox consists of a daily alarm, a countdown timer, a full auto calendar, and world-time displays for 39 time zones in 27 cities worldwide. Built-in premium features include G-Shock’s Two-Way Time Sync technology, which combines Bluetooth connectivity and Multi-Band 6 self-adjusting atomic timekeeping for accurate timekeeping virtually anywhere in the world, and the brand’s Tough Solar technology, which enables the watch to constantly recharge itself from light sources without the need to change batteries.
Price: $1,650, Reference: TW2U61000, Case Size: 49.3mm x 43.2mm, Case Height: 13mm, Crystal: Acrylic, Water Resistance: 200 meters, Movement: Quartz Solar Caliber 3459
One of the most high-concept pieces in the Full Metal collection,The recently launched GMW-B5000TVA-1, aka “Titanium Virtual Armor,” is designed with science fiction and Japanese “Mecha” animé mind, with G-Shock citing “powered armor and virtual reality,” as its primary influences. Inspired (here again) by the original 1983 base model, it’s one of the very few G-Shocks to use lightweight, matte-finished titanium for the case and bracelet. The subtly updated case is distinguished by laser-bored holes that reveal red fine resin accents that add to its futuristic look, plus an industrial array of descriptive text and numerals printed throughout the case and bracelet, evoking the look of a 3D schematic for a robot or a suit of high-tech armor. The digital face uses black text on a gray background to display the various functions, all backed by a Tough Solar movement with Bluetooth compatibility for pairing with a smartphone.
In late 2019, G-Shock rolled out its first Full Metal reference with a titanium case in the classic DW5000C style. The GMWB5000TB is significantly lighter on the wrist than its steel predecessors (34 percent lighter, in fact) and features a black DLC finish on all the surfaces of its case and bracelet for enhanced scratch resistance. Along with the “elevated retro” look come a roster of G-Shock’s contemporary technical innovations: Bluetooth connectivity, Multi-Band 6 Atomic Timekeeping for worldwide timekeeping accuracy (the “6” is for the six radio transmitters mentioned previously), and Tough Solar tech for perpetual charging of the movement, plusthe expected 1/100-second stopwatch, LED light for nighttime legibility, world time indication, four daily alarms, and a countdown timer.
Price: $3,500, Reference: MRGB5000D, Case Size: 49.4mm x 43.2mm, Case Height: 12.9mm, Crystal: Sapphire, Water Resistance: 200 meters, Movement: Tough Solar Quartz
Modern, cutting-edge materials abound in the multi-part case of the MRGB5000, introduced in 2022 as the highest technical elevation of its classic 1983 model within its “pinnacle” collection, the MR-G, which is produced in parent company Casio’s “mother factory” in Yamagata, Japan. The case band is constructed fromDAT55G, a highly workable titanium alloy that’s about three times harder than pure titanium as well as scratch-resistant and finished in a beautiful mirror polish. The bezel is made of Cobarion, which has a hardness about four times that of pure titanium and a brilliant gleam comparable to platinum. In this model, again, we find radio-controlled calibration and Smartphone Link connectivity, including the ability to automatically adjust to the correct time via a link with the Casio Watches smartphone app to automatically adjust to the correct time. It also comes equipped with a solar charging system and high-brightness LED light
Price: $7,400, Reference:MRGG2000HA-1, Case Size: 54.7mm x 49.8mm, Case Height: 16.9mm, Crystal: Sapphire, Water Resistance: 200 meters, Movement: Quartz Solar
With this MR-G special edition released in 2018, G-Shock melds avant-garde technology with ancient Japanese craftsmanship. Its signature feature is a bezel with a gritty, hammer-tone “Arashi-Tuchime”texture (also found on the bracelets’s center links) that is the same one found on the hilts of traditional Japanese samurai swords. The watch’s color scheme echoes the look ofmurasaki-gane,a deep violet-hued alloy which includes gold, and a type of copper calledsuaka, thanks to an AIP (Arc Iron Plating) process that creates a hardened, abrasion-resistant coating. Inside, the “Tetsu Tsuba” model is decidedly modern, with three-way time sync capabilities powered by Bluetooth connectivity to a G-Shock app, and the GPS Hybrid Wave Ceptor technology, which allows the watch’s wearer to accurately gauge his local time and location from anywhere in the world. The movement’s Tough Solar technology allows for self-charging via light sources and it’s jammed with high-tech functionality, including a stopwatch, countdown timer, alarms, world times in 39 cities, day/date display, full calendar, and LED illumination.
Price: $8,000, Reference:MRGB2000BS3A, Case Size: 54.7mm x 49.8mm, Case Height: 16.9mm, Crystal: Sapphire, Water Resistance: 200 meters, Movement: Quartz Solar
The priciest and most luxuriously crafted watch on our list, the Hana Basara edition was unveiled in 2021 in commemoration of 25 years of the MR-G collection. Its distinctive, colorful design takes inspiration from the ancient armor worn by the samurai of G-Shock’s native Japan. The blend of green, red, gold and black color areas on the stately case are an homage to those found on Hana-Basara armor, and the bezel, made of Cobarion, is formed in a facet-cutting technique commonly used to cut gems and meticulously polished to a mirror finish by a Japanese artisan. The main case as well as the bracelet are constructed of DAG55G titanium, with areas alternating in color from a brown IP finish to a traditional Japanese, iron-colored (kurogane) DLC coating. The multicolor theme continues on the dial, which hosts additional textures, applied indices, and other features inspired by the namesake armor.
... and to save you some time, here are our quick picks before we jump into the article for the following categories: Toughest G-Shock With The Best Features
G-Shock GW-9400 is Casio"s "survival watch", built for performance in extreme conditions. It"s also probably the best tactical watch ever made and the most popular model in Casio"s premium Master of G series.
This is the perfect G-Shock for a first-time buyer who wants a simple, wearable G-Shock watch that comes with solar charging and radio time sync. You never know whether a particular G-Shock model will be too big or uncomfortable for you. With GWM-5610-1, you can be sure that your first G-Shock won"t be too big.
G-Shock GMW-B5000-1CR is one of the first metal G-Shock squares ever made. There"s also a full-metal version available, but we think the rubber strap makes this model more versatile than it"s full-steel brother. Pricier than regular G-Shocks, you should check out this model if you"re dressing to impress. Otherwise, you"ll get better bang for buck elsewhere.
In short, DW-5600 is the smallest and cheapest G-Shock for sale right now. This basic square model has been around since the late 80"s and is still a best-seller. It"s a simple watch that comes with all the functions you"ll ever need: timer, stopwatch, 12/24 time, 1 alarm, hourly time beep, and a calendar.
G-Shock GW-9400 is Casio"s "survival watch", built for performance in extreme conditions. It"s also probably the best tactical watch ever made and the most popular model in Casio"s premium Master of G series.
Rangeman took the #1 place on our list for its features, reliability, and the value for money that it delivers. The standout feature of the watch is its Triple Sensor that gives you instant access to: Altimeter - measure height from sea level
If you"re not familiar with G-Shocks, the advanced features of these watches can be overwhelming at first. This is why I recommend you to watch the video below that explains exactlyhow everything works:
Because of its solar battery and radio time sync features, the Rangeman doesn"t need any maintenance. The battery charges itself, and the time calibrates every day at 00:00 via a radio signal.
The compass will be accurate for anything if calibrated properly. I don"t recommend you to rely on your G-Shock 100% for navigation, but it makes a great backup for your main compass. You know the motto - "two is one, and one is none".
Because of body heat, the thermometerwill not read the outside temperature correctly unless you let the watch cool down first. To get a good temperature reading, take the watch off your wrist and set it stationary for around 10 minutes to cool down first.
GPR-B1000-1JR is the closest that Casio has ever come to making a G-Shock smartwatch. The model was released in April 2018 and remains the most high-tech G-Shock watch ever made.
The GPS works as it should and can display your current location on a route or bearing to a destination in real-time. There is also a backtrack function that allows you to go back to your starting point. You can save the tracking data automatically, and manually (time/date, longitude/latitude, altitude, pressure, temperature) in 60 memory slots.
Because of the Tough Solar battery, its battery life is superior to other GPS watches. On a full charge, you can use the GPS for 33 hours. And four hours of charging in bright sunlight will give you an additional hour of GPS use. The battery won"t run dry with GPS use - GPR-B1000-1JR will always keep enough power for the normal watch functions.
Other features of the watch include Multi-band 6 radio time sync, sunset/sunrise times, tide & moon graphs, hands-free backlight functionality, timer, stopwatch, 12-24h time, and other basic G-Shock functions. While there is a phone app that comes with the watch, the watch doesn"t rely on it and will work without the app.
GPR-B1000-1JR comes with a low-temperature (-20°C, -4°F) scratch-proof sapphire crystal LCD display. The band is reinforced with a carbon fiber insert, which makes it basically indestructible. Like the original Rangeman, this model is also extraresistant to mud and dust.
The GPR-B1000-1JR is a class of its own, with no similar watches out there to compare it to. With its GPS and solar features, it holds the throne of the most reliable GPS watch in the world. As well as being the ultimate survival watch. It has definitely earned a place among the best G-Shock watches.
G-Shock GW7900B-1 G-Rescue is a solar atomic best-seller that won"t break the bank. While it"s not as high-tech as the Rangeman watches above, this bad boy"s got all the features you need and then some more.
The features of the watch include a solar power, Multi-Band 6 radio time sync, hands-free backlight, 48 city world time, tide & moon graphs, 5 alarms, a stopwatch, a countdown timer, and a dedicated front EL button. The low-temperature LCD screen makes the watch great for mountaineering, but also working in a laboratory"s cold room.
G-Rescue is not only one of the best G-Shock watches, it"s one of the best solar atomic modelsavailable for the money period - close to indestructible, solar charging, radio-controlled, and jam-packed with features.
The G-Rescue is big, and the four steel screws in the front make it look even bigger when it sits on the wrist. If you prefer smaller watches, there are smaller G-Shocks available with similar features and price (see below).
Even with its large size, the watch has a great fit thanks to plastic wings that sit under the watch bed. The wings wrap around your wrist and provide sturdiness to the watch so that it does not move on your wrist.
G-Rescue comes in multiple colors, with black and red being the most popular. The red model is easier to read, as it doesn"t have the negative display of the black one. It is also slightly cheaper because it doesn"t have the radio time sync feature.
G-Shock GA-100 is one of the best-selling analog G-Shock watch models, mostly because of its minimalist industrial design, large case, and affordable price. The design of the model is inspired by an airplane"s instrument panel with its high-contrast hands and the anti-magnetic case construction. It"s just cool.
GA100 is part of Casio"s oversized military series. The case of the watch measures 51mm. The watch is light and comfortable, but it will have a large presence on your wrist. While it is large, it"s not extremelylarge as some of the Master of G watches out there.
The features that make this one of the best G-Shock watches include: World Time (48 cities), dual analog-digital time display, 5 alarms, stopwatch, timer, and a calendar. On top of that, the watch comes with a MACH calculator. It is a tool for pilots that can calculate the speed of sound at a given temperature. But let"s be realistic - even if you work as a pilot, I doubt that you"ll be using your G-Shock to calculate anything. So the Mach feature is more of an icing on the cake, rather than a serious feature that you"d expect to use.
Since GA100 doesn"t have the solar battery, it is more affordable than the more advanced G-Shocks above. Even without solar, you"re getting great value for your money with this one – especially considering that it"s often on sale for ~$60.
The weak backlight is the most common complaint that people have with this watch. The small screens on the face of the watch are hard to read in darkness, even with the backlight on. Reading the time is fine but, it might take you a couple of tries with the backlight to see the smaller screens (date, stopwatch, etc.).
G-Shock GA100 is the perfect watch for gifts and first-time G-Shock buyers. It"s hard to go wrong with this bad boy, especially if you"re looking for a larger watch with wrist presence. It comes dozens of different colors and limited editions, so you have plenty of choices.
G-Shock GWM-5610-1 - also known as the solar atomic square - keeps the classic G-Shock form, but also features a Solar Battery & Multi-Band 6 time sync - features that are usually found on bigger G-Shocks. This watch is the direct descendant of the original Casio G-Shock watch released in 1983.
This is one of the smallest G-Shocks out there, with a thickness of only 12.7mm and a diameter of 43mm. It can easily fit under long sleeves and jackets, which is not the case with bigger models. That"s why I love wearing the square in winter months when I have many layers of clothing on. Because it"s so small, this watch is so light that you"ll forget you"re wearing it.
Because of its small size, GWM-5610-1 is suitable for wrists of all sizes – men, women, and children. To get a better feel for the size of the watch, check out the video below:
In addition to solar charging and atomic time synchronization, the small square also gets you World Time (48 cities), 4 daily alarms with snooze, countdown timer, stopwatch, calendar, and an hourly time beep. There is hands-free backlight mode – you can engage the illumination with the movement of your wrist in a dark environment.
This made our list of 28 Best G-Shock Watches because it"s the perfect G-Shock for a first-time buyer who wants a simple, wearable G-Shock watch that comes with solar charging and radio time sync. You never know whether a particular G-Shock model will be too big or uncomfortable for you. With GWM-5610-1, you can be sure that your first G-Shock won"t be too big.
G9300 Mudman is the most affordable compass G-Shock watchon the market. It"s an older premium model that comes with a Twin Sensor (compass + thermometer). The watch usually retails between $110 and $150, which also makes it the cheapest Master of G watch.
In addition to compass and thermometer, the Mudman also has solar power, hands-free backlight, World Time feature, tide & moon graphs, and the extra-rugged mud- and dust-resistant construction. Because of extra protection, the buttons require more force to push than on other G-Shocks, which is one of the downsides of the mud-resistant protection.
The features and durability of the Mudman come at a price. It is a bulky watch, and there is no way around it. It"s comfortable to wear, but you"ll have a hard time fitting it under your sleeve. The video below shows how it looks in the wrist:
Same as with the Rangeman above, you need to calibrate your compass for it to work properly. The thermometer will pick up body heat, so keep the watch off your wrist for ~10min before measuring temperature. When the compass is not in use, it works as a seconds counter. So you"ll have a digital seconds hand in that small circle on the upper left.
Why is this one of the best G-Shock watches? Because If you"re on a budget, you won"t find a better compass watch than the G9300 Mudman. Twin Sensor, Solar Power & hands-free backlight make this Mudman one of the top outdoors watches available for the money right now.
G-Shock GD350 belongs to Casio"s "Gulf Delta" line of military watches. Vibration alarm and instant-access countdown timer are the main features which make this unique. You won"t find the vibration alarm on any of the premium G-Shock watches. GD-350 took places #1 on our list of best tactical G-Shock watches for the military.
Those come in addition to standard G-Shock features: World time (48 cities), hands-free backlight, 5 alarms, front EL button, timer, stopwatch, 12/24h time display, calendar, and an hourly time beep (can be set up with vibration).
The vibration alarmhas a good quality motor and feels solid. The tighter you wear the watch, the more you will feel the vibration. The vibrations last for 10 seconds, and are faint enough that you are the only person who would notice them, but strong enough that they are noticeable.
You can set up to 5 alarms for 5 different times. The watch can be set to beep, or vibrate, but not both at the same time. If you"ve gotten enough sleep, you can count on the vibration to wake you up in the morning. You can rise like a silent ninja. It also works great for meetings and all sorts of silent reminders.
Since the GD-350 doesn’t come with solar power or radio time sync, it is one of the more affordable G-Shock watches with advanced features and usually retails below $100. As big as the watch is, it is light and wears really nice. The watch comes in multiple colors, with gold & black and grey being the most popular ones.
Unlike the feature-packed G-Shock watches above, the DW-9052 takes us right back to the basics. It"s the best-selling standard-issue G-Shock watch model, which means that it comes with only the basic G-Shock features and can generally be found retailing below $50.
As you can see from the image, the design has remained unchanged from the 90s. The blue line in the middle of the display is a visual second counter, giving the watch a military look. DW-9052 is often seen worn by military personnel around the world, so maybe the tactical display has something to do with that.
Just to clarify:DW-9052 is one of the cheapest G-Shock models out there, but make no mistake - this watch is still tough as nails, shockproof and waterproof. This $50 G-Shock is just as strong as the $200 Rangeman. Casio cuts no corners on durability and construction quality with their cheaper G-Shocks.
In short, this watch has everything that you might expect from a cheap digital beater and then some more. The backlight illuminates the entire screen, giving you perfect visibility. The front backlight button adds extra accessibility for use in the darkness.
At 48.5mm in diameter, the watch is not as big as the more modern G-Shock watches. Its size is roughly medium when compared to other G-Shocks, and will fit even on smaller wrists.
What more can you ask from a sub-$50 watch? The DW-9052 is a crowd favorite, and if you"re looking for a budget G-Shock you won"t go wrong with this model - it hadto make our list of 28 Best G-Shock Watches.
Starting from the sensor, Mudmaster only comes with a Twin Sensor vs. Rangeman"s Triple sensor. This means that you"re getting the compass and thermometer, but not the altimeter and barometer. Which is not a big deal, since you can probably manage without a barometer, right?
But the biggest gripe I have with the Mudmaster is this: it doesn"t have solar power. And comes with only 2 years of battery life. The short battery life is understandable - it is an analog watch. But for the price, I would expect it to have solar power.
Now, there is a solar atomic version of the Mudmaster available, but its price is even higher because it"s a Japanese import. It"s hard to justify, considering that the ~$200 Rangeman comes with the same features except for the analog display. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZVdAT6mudQ
Aside from these shortcomings, the Mudmaster comes with neat features: LED backlight (super illuminator), digital compass, thermometer, world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, 5 daily alarms, hourly time signal, low battery alert, full auto-calendar, 12/24-hour format, button operation tone on/off.
The compass has a bearing feature, which allows you to record and save a particular direction. The video above has a detailed breakdown of how the compass works and explains it far better than I could here.
GG-1000 is one of the better-looking G-Shocks out there with its rugged mud-resistant build and the 56.2mm diameter case. Pictured above desert camouflage model of the watch. If you are in the market for a well-built and stylish timepiece, I wouldn"t let the minor drawbacks dissuade you from purchasing the GG-1000. It"s indestructible and will last you many years.
G-Shock G100 is the most affordable analog G-Shock watch you can buy. With its basic features, the watch is easy and intuitive to use, which is its main selling point and what people love about it the most.
The layout of G100 is simple - two hands and a small digital display. You"ll use the display for all the digital functions of the watch – dual time, stopwatch, and alarm. Note that this model doesn"t have a countdown timer, and there is no world time either. Other features include hourly time beep and an electric backlight. The hands of the watch will also glow in the darkness. G-Shock G100 is medium-sized and will fit most wrists.
Overall, it is a simple analog G-Shock watch for around $50 that gets the job done. Perfect if you"re looking for a cheap analog watch that"s indestructible, waterproof, and reliable in all conditions.
Don"t like red on black? Casio"s released this model with modern minimalist looks – check out the full black (in the video below) and full green models to see if you like them better.
GBA800 is the best G-Shock watch for sports and comes with inbuilt step tracker and Bluetooth connectivity. With its modern minimalist look, the watch is one of the better-looking G-Shock watches. It"s rugged, and yet looks good enough to wear into the office.
Features of the watch include the step tracker, Bluetooth connectivity, hands-free backlight, Dual time display, World Time, front EL button, countdown timer, stopwatch, 5 alarms, calendar, and the hourly time beep. According to reviews, the step tracker is accurate. You can view the data on your smartphone app, where you can see daily/weekly/monthly step counts.
Bluetooth & Phone app:There is a special G-Shock app for your phone that connects with the watch. The app has daily health and fitness functions, including a step-counting 3-axis accelerometer, countdown timer and memory for up to 200 lap records. You can also use the app to adjust the watch settings like time zones, stopwatch & timer.
If you"re looking for the best G-Shock watch for running, walking, or any other kinds of sports, it"s hard to go wrong with the GBA-800. It"s also a perfect gift idea for anyone who is into health, sports, and/or watches. It is "real" watch that will track your steps/activity, unlike fitness trackers that have the watch function as an afterthought.
In short, DW-5600 is the smallest and cheapest G-Shock watch for sale right now. This basic square model has been around since the late 80"s and is still a best-seller. It"s a simple watch that comes with all the functions you"ll ever need: timer, stopwatch, 12/24 time, 1 alarm, hourly time beep, and a calendar.
This little beauty is the most practical thing ever and can probably survive WWIII. It can get beat up, neglected, you can leave it on at the neighbor"s pool party and it will always be there to tell you happily that lunchtime is in 10 minutes.
Fun fact:DW-5600 was the G-Shock watch used in the Guinness Book Of World Records test where it survived getting driven over by a truck and won the title of the "toughest watch in the world".
There"s just something great about the minimalist toughness and value for money in this watch. The value for money is extraordinary. It"s not even solar, but the battery will last you 11 years if you go careful on the backlight and is cheap to replace.
It"s the first watch that I bought, and after years of wear, it"s still ticking, with no scratches on the screen. Note that the "A" button is more recessed than the other buttons so you won"t accidentally hit it and engage the "change time" mode. So is it one of the best G-Shock watches or a great beater watch? Simple answer - yes.
G-Shock GX56BB-1 "King of G" is the biggest regular G-Shock watch in existence with its massive 56mm diameter case. Out of all G-Shocks, only the high-end Master of G watches are bigger than this model. The GX-56BB-1 measures 55.5 × 53.6 × 17.5 mm and weighs 88 grams.
The watch is made of resin with a solid, matte black finish. It"s large, built like a tank, and has a stealth-like military look. It has a thick, 17.50-millimeter case, which consists of a triple-layered structure that combines soft and hard, urethane with Alpha GEL.
GX-56 was originally intended as an extra-tough G-Shock watch for use in the harshest conditions. However, the model also became fashionable because of its unique look and the huuugesize. Check out the video below to see how this beast looks like on the wrist:
Alpha GEL gives the watch extra shock absorption, vibration isolation, and heat dissipation. The triple-layered build makes the GX-56BB extremely durable and virtually indestructible, even when compared to other G-Shocks. In addition to that, GC-56BB comes with the mud- and dust-resistant construction and is magnetic resistant. With all these features, it had to make our list of best G-Shock watches.
GX-56BB-1 has the usual features of Tough Solar models: World Time (48 cities), hands-free EL backlight, stopwatch, timer, 5 daily alarms with 1 snooze alarm, power saving mode, full auto-calendar, 12/24 hour format, daylight savings time, and button tone on/off. It is part of the G-Shock"s Black Out Basic series that features 3 other non-solar models. Note that this model doesn"t have the Multi-Band 6 radio time sync feature.
The GX-56BB a good option for larger people, or if you like the square G-Shock design but find the 5600 series too small. This model currently only comes in the "blackout" color, as other colors have been discontinued.
G-Shock GW-6900-1 is based on one of G-Shock"s best-selling case designs - the classic DW6900. But unlike its parent, this model comes with Solar Power and Multi-Band 6 Atomic Time Sync. It"s a great all-rounder for functionality and durability, and hard to beat for the price.
The GW-6900-1 comes with the regular solar G-Shock watch features: World time (48 cities), hands-free EL backlight, stopwatch, timer, 5 daily alarms with 1 snooze alarm, power saving mode, full auto-calendar, 12/24 hour format, daylight savings time, and button tone on/off.
This watch is extremely simple to operate. It has no unnecessary features and sticks strictly to the basics. The EL button is a nice touch and makes the backlight more accessible. The LCD screen is easy to read day or night. The illumination feature works great.
GW-6900"s size is medium when it comes to G-Shocks, which many people find perfect for them. Not too big and not too small. The understated design won"t draw attention.
At the end of the day, it"s an excellent self-adjusting watch. Good choice if you"re looking for an affordable digital G-Shock watch with Tough Solar & Atomic time features. The only other watch that comes close to this one is the #5 GW-M5610 Solar Atomic Square.
G-Shock GA-100 is a popular oversized model with modern industrial looks, similar to its brothers GA100 and GA700. The looks are the main selling point here – you"ve got many colors and styles to choose from, with black & orange and black & gold being the most popular.
While it"s a non-solar watch, you"re well covered on the features: LED light, countdown timer, 1/1000-second stopwatch, 55 mm resin case, World Time (48 cities + coordinated universal time), city code display, daylight saving on/off, Home city/World time city swapping, 5 daily alarms (with 1 snooze alarm), hourly time signal, Full auto-calendar (to year 2099), and 12/24-hour time.
The GA110 is a good choice if you want a bold, manly watch. The look is just right - not understated, but not blingy or garish either. With the XL 55mm case, it will have a strong presence on your wrist. It"s also an affordable watch that looks more expensive than it really is. It"s a combo that earns the GA110 the #15 spot on our list of 28 Best G-Shock Watches.
G-Shock GA700 is another oversized model that comes in a 55mm case. The looks are slightly different from the GA110 above, but the watches are nearly identical in their features.
One important difference to note is that the GA700 is one of the few G-Shock watches that come with a front EL backlight button. This model also comes with a hand-shift feature that allows you to move the hands of watch away to read the digital screens for a few seconds.
Other features of the watch are standard for a non-solar model: LED light (super illuminator), world time (48 cities), stopwatch, countdown timer, 5 daily alarms, hourly time signal, full auto-calendar, 12/24-hour format, and dual time display.
As with GA110 above, the main appeal of G-Shock GA700 is in its looks. It"s a big, rugged and masculine watch that"ll take any abuse you throw at it. The watch is light for its size, which makes it comfortable to wear. It"s also affordable, although you wouldn"t tell that from the looks.
G-Shock GWM500A-1 is one of the best small solar atomic G-Shock watches. The watch will recharge its battery on the go, with a maximum battery life of 9 months. The time will adjust every day at 00:00 through a radio signal.
It"s a simple and straightforward solar watch – all you have to do is put in your city, and the watch will do the rest. As you can see from the retro design, this model has been around for more than 15 years and is still going strong.
The watch comes with Multi-Band Atomic Timekeeping, Tough Solar Power, Full Auto EL Backlight with Afterglow, World Time, 4 Daily alarms and 1 Snooze Alarm, Hourly time signal, 1/100 second stopwatch, Countdown Timer, Full auto-calendar, 12/24 hour formats, Button operation tone on/off, and a battery power indicator.
Overall, GWM500A-1 is an extremely affordable G-Shock watch for all the features that you"re getting, and might just be the cheapest solar watch on the market. In price and features, it"s nearly identical to the #5 GWM-5610 solar atomic square, with the only difference being its front EL button that the square doesn"t have.
G-Shock GW2310FB-1CR is a rugged, accurate, and versatile watch that you can wear with gym gear, running, or in business casual. You won"t need to worry about changing batteries and setting the time, as it comes with Tough Solar and Multi-Band 6 Atomic Time Sync.
The watch comes with regular solar G-Shock features: Multi-Band Atomic Timekeeping , Tough Solar Power, Full Auto EL Backlight with Afterglow, World Time, 4 Daily alarms and 1 Snooze Alarm, Hourly time signal, 1/100 second stopwatch, Countdown Timer, Full auto-calendar, 12/24 hour formats, Button operation tone on/off, and a battery power indicator.
Although bigger than the GWM-500 above, this model is a little smaller than most other G-shock watches – we"re rating it"s size as "medium". The all-black coloring with the negative display gives it a tactical watch look. The negative display can be hard to read, particularly in glare or medium light. But a shift of the wrist will make it visible again.
Get the GW2310FB-1CR if you want a solar G-Shock and like the tactical watch looks. It used to be a best-selling model a couple of years back and is still popular.
G-Shock G9000 Mudman has been around since the 90s and used to be THE toughest watch in the world back then. Times have moved on since, and other G-Shock models have taken the throne. But this bad boy remains a best seller to this day.
As the name implies, the G9000 Mudman comes in mud- and dust-resistant case with a resin-covered case back and protected buttons. The construction makes it impermeable to mud but also makes the buttons harder to press than on other models.
Instead of writing an essay for you, I"ll just leave this video here. The Urban Gentry channel is just as fond of this watch as I am – I"m sure he will do a better job of explaining why the G9000 is such a good deal right now:
The features of the watch include: Auto LED backlight, 5 alarms, hourly time signal, flash alert, 1/100 sec stopwatch, countdown timer, full auto calendar, and 12/24 hour formats. The features of this watch put it in the upper tiers of reliability even for a G-Shock. And it has that cool retro sci-fi appearance to it. The blacked-out look is very understated and sleek.
Note that this Mudman is not solar - it"s an older model and solar batteries weren"t around back when it was designed. But the lack of solar is compensated by the lower price of the watch.
With a 52 mm resin case, the Mudman sits right in the middle of the G-Shock size chart. It"s medium-large if you will – certainly not a small watch. It comes in multiple styles, but my favorite is the military black. There is also a "regular" black & red Mudman that looks more similar to other G-Shock watches. Overall, with old-school design and classic features, the G9000MS remains one of the best G-Shock watches around.
G-Shock GW-5000-1JF is a watch made for true G-Shock watch fans. Here"s what makes this square special, and why it costs up to x3 times the price of other G-Shock squares: It is a tribute to the original G-Shock DW-5600C from 1983
Now, does the stainless steel build make this square tougher and more durable? No doubt. But you"ll only notice that difference if you run lab experiments on it. In real-life situations, however, there is no difference between a G-Shock with the plastic inner case and a G-Shock with the stainless steel DLC coated one. They"re both tougher than you"ll ever need them to be.
In addition to solar charging and atomic time synchronization, you also get World Time (48 cities), 4 daily alarms with snooze, a countdown timer, and a stopwatch. There is a hands-free backlight mode that lets you engage the illumination with the movement of your wrist in a dark environment.
This model is the ultimate G-Shock square for hardcore fans of the brand. No collection is complete without a stainless steel caseback square, and this is the perfect model to fill that slot. If you want the nostalgia of owning a G-Shock watch with the original construction, or if you just want the best looking square G-Shock, then this is the watch for you (and certainly among the best of the best G-Shock watches for collectors).
G-Shock GST-S110D-1ACR is one of the few Casio G-Shock watches that come in a full stainless steel case, part of Casio"s G-STEEL series. The steel construction gives the watch a high-end look, making it suitable for the office as well as outdoors. The watch is big and thick – it"s got plenty of masculinity and wrist presence with the 53.8mm case size and 16.1mm in thickness.
The features include: Tough solar, double LED light, world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, 5 daily alarms, hourly time signal, hand shiftfeature, full auto-calendar, 12/24-hour format, and button operation tone on/off. You"ll have no problem reading the smaller digital screens in any light, as the hand shift feature allows you to move the hands out of the way, and the double LED has separate illumination for the screens.
The analog hands have lume and light up in the dark - rare feature for a G-Shock watch. The feature that this model is missing is the multi-band radio signal reception.
This watch is light enough for daily use, and big enough to make an impression. You can wear it on dressy occasions or while traveling. Or simply outdoors. And while it costs more than the plastic models, the ability to wear it in formal settings is well worth the money.
Personally, I"m a big fan of the cool steel watch look, and this is a fantastic example of form meeting function. All these factors make the GST-S110D-1ACR a natural addition to our list of best G-Shock watches.
G-Shock GA800 is the only affordable Casio G-Shock model that comes with a ticking seconds hand. Most other analog-digital G-Shock watches only have two hands for the hour and minute with seconds showing on the LCD display.
Other features of the watch include dual time (with home time swapping), auto double LED light with afterglow, stopwatch (1/100 second for the first 60 minutes, 1 second after 60 minutes, up to 23:59’59), countdown timer (100 minutes), 5 daily alarms, hourly time signal, hand shift feature, 12/24 hour format, and estimated 3-year battery life. This is a non-solar model.
GA-800 is a medium-sized watch 54.1 x 48.6 x 15.5 mm, which is thinner than most Casio G-shocks watches. This makes the watch comfortable to wear, especially under multiple layers of clothing. The watch is unisex and fits both men and women.
To sum it up, G-Shock GA800 is great if you want a more traditional analog watch that isn"t too large and comes at a reasonable price. The watch comes in many different colors, so if you want to get all colorful with your G-Shock, then this model is a good option to do that.
G-Shock DW6900BB-1 is a basic Casio G-Shock that comes in a subtle matte-black design, one of the basic watches included Casio"s Black Out line. This model is more than 20 years old, the minimalist black look gives it modern look that you wouldn"t expect from a G-Shock.
DW6900BB-1 is still the tough and indestructible, but more elegant than your average G-Shock watch. The all-black matte design makes it versatile enough for formal occasions and office wear. Here"s a demo of how it looks on the wrist:
The features of the watch include: 12 and 24 hour time, hourly time signal, multi-function alarm full auto-calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2099), EL backlight with afterglow, 1/100 second stopwatch, countdown timer, one alarm, front EL button.
G-Shock DW6900BB-1 is worth getting for the looks alone. I have another black out watch (DW-5600BB) and it gets compliments all the time. It"s a unique fusion of old-school G-Shock design with the modern minimalist design that just works.
GST-B100-1ACR is the first full-analog G-Shock from the G-STEEL line. It"s the best G-Shock watch in Casio"s steel collection, and comes with better features than the other steel watch above.
You can connect the watch to your phone through Bluetoothand adjust the time, world time, and alarm settings straight from your smartphone app. There is a phone finder feature – when engaged, the watch will visually show you where your phone is located in the room. Handy if you"re like me and lose track of your phone from time to time.
Another unique feature of this watch is the 9 o"clock dial indicator which is designed to resemble turbine blades of a jet engine. The dial rotates whenever you change your settings. It allows you to view the elapsed stopwatch time, alarm settings, and battery level visually through the clearance of the blades.
The GST-B100 measures 58.1 x 53.8 x 14.1 mm. While it"s a big watch the 14.1mm thickness is very slim for a watch of this caliber, which indicates that Casio designed it for office as well as outdoors. It will fit under your shirt sleeve.
The features of the watch include: tough solar, smartphone link, battery level indicator, dual dial world time, Bluetooth, countdown timer, stopwatch, 1 alarm (you can set multiple alarms through the app). GST-B100 has a layered guard structure for better shock resistance.
GST-B100-1ACR gets you that G-shock toughness with a classy touch. One of the best G-Shock watches out there for a business environment. This model comes in three variations: GST-B100-1A with a resin band, the GST-B100D-1A with a stainless steel band, and the special edition GST-B100X-1A with a carbon fiber bezel and resin band.
GWX-5600-1JF G-LIDE is a G-Shock surfing watch that comes with tide and moon graphs. You get the tide and moon data based on your location coordinates by manually entering your latitude & longitude.
GWX-5600-1JF is one of the most "complete" G-Shock squares out there because in addition to the tide and moon features it also comes with Tough Solarand Multi-Band 6 Atomic Time Sync. Here is a short video explaining the surf features of the watch on a white model:
The tide graph is accurate enough to give you a general idea of what the tide will be like. The same goes for the moon graph. The additional features that you"re getting are: World Time (48 cities), 5 alarms, hands-free backlight feature, countdown timer, stopwatch, and the calendar.
If you care about the surfing or the tide & moon graph, then buy the GWX-5600-1JF. It is the ultimate G-Shock surfing watch and a perfect example of the features and "vibe" that the series brings.
GWF-1000-1jf Frogman is the ultimate G-Shock diver watch and has a long heritage as one of the first premium G-Shock watches ever released. It is also one of the most expensive Master of G watches that you can buy today
It comes in a DLC-covered stainless steel inner case and is as rust-resistant as it gets. The shape of the case is asymmetrical and gives the Frogman its unique look. The design is polarizing, with people either loving the watch or hating it – there seems to be no middle ground.
If there was a title of "The Most Elite G-Shock", then Frogman would be up there in the rankings. Even considering its features, the watch is expensive and is mostly used by die-hard G-Shock fans.
GMW-B5000D-1 is the rolex of digital watches. It"s a full steel G-Shock square that made a huge ruckus when it was first released during G-Shock"s 35th anniversary in 2018. The watch quickly sold out and was going for ~$1000 on the grey market. By now the production has caught up, and these are widely available at slightly more reasonable prices.
Combining the toughness of the best G-Shock watches with a full-steel construction is an impressive feat of engineering. Add to that the fact that the watch is modeled off the first G-Shock ever made, and you can see why this bad boy is so popular among fans and collectors.
In addition to the full-steel construction, this watch was also the first square to have Bluetooth. You can connect it to your phone and adjust the time, world time, countdown, timer, and alarms all from the app. Bluetooth also provides reminder alerts, time and place log, and the phone finder function.
Other features include: Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6 Atomic Time, World Time, 5 alarms, stopwatch, countdown timer, calendar, 12/24h time, and hourly time beep.
G-Shock GA-2000 Series uses a carbon core guard structure which is the newer, "third material" that the watches are being made of besides resin and metal. The carbon is the best of both worlds - lighter than metal, but more durable than resin. This is also the main selling point of the GA-2000.
Another great thing about this watch is that you can change out the straps. With a regular G-Shock, you couldn"t change the strap without a special set of adapters. The GA-2000 completely solves that problem – you can wear it on resin, steel, leather, nylon… take your pick.
They"ve also addressed most of the analog G-Shock problems with this line – there is a hand shift feature to move the hands out of the way of the digital screens, plus the double LED that illuminates the smaller screens in the dark properly.
Other unique features of the watch include lay-flat bands, guardless buttons, dual-layer stainless steel, and resin case back, and a convenient front LED light button. The biggest downside of this model is that it"s non-solar. If you can deal with that, then it"s a fantastic analog G-Shock pick and worthy of our final spot in our 28 Best G-Shock Watch guide.
G-Shock is the ultimate "bang for the buck" watch, but that"s especially true for the cheaper models. Even basic sub-$50 G-Shocks come with 200m of water resistance and a shock-proof construction that is able to survive a truck driving over it.
Combine that with a battery that lasts from 2 – 10 years (depending on your backlight usage) and you can see why people call G-Shock the ultimate tool watch. At its core, the basic Casio G-Shock watch is a tough, reliable, and durable watch that has everything you might need in any situation.
Triple Sensor –By far the most "elite" G-Shock feature. Triple Sensor G-Shocks come with Compass, Thermometer, and Altimeter/Barometer functionality - all on your wrist. Most of the sensor"s functions are reasonably accurate, but there are some quirks that you need to keep in mind (calibrating the compass, etc.). I will get more into these in the reviews below.
Twin Sensor –Twin Sensor models come with Digital Compass and Thermometer only – no altimeter/barometer. Twin sensor is the older version of the Triple Sensor and is the cheapest way to get yourself a compass G-Shock. The Mudman G-9300 model is a great example of a relatively affordable G-Shock that comes with a Twin Sensor.
Tough Solar – Or in other words - a solar rechargeable battery. Solar batteries in G-Shocks can run for 9 months on a full charge without further light exposure. Daylight is enough to keep the watch fully charged, you don"t need direct sunlight. The solar battery needs changing every 10-15 years, compared to 2-5 years on normal quartz batteries. Solar G-Shocks have gotten cheaper over time, so today there is no reason not to have one.
Multi-Band 6 Atomic Time Sync – Every day at 00:00, your G-Shock will calibrate its time via radio signal. This feature ensures that your watch is 100% accurate all the time. There are 6 radio signal towers that cover most of the world including the U.S. and Canada. Keep in mind that the signal doesn"t reach some areas in Russia, Central Asia, and Iceland.
World Time –The World Time feature allows you to easily change between timezones. They usually include 31 time zones and 48 cities you can choose from. On most G-Shocks, you"ll also get the dual time feature allowing you to monitor two time zones at once. Useful while traveling.
Hands-Free Backlight– Common feature, especially on solar models. When turned on, you can toggle the backlight with the flick of your wrist, without having to press buttons. Useful if you"re working with your hands in the dark.
I"m going to keep this simple. There are hundreds of G-Shock models out there, but if we look at the features and the price, you"ve got roughly four types of G-Shock watches to choose from:
Basic, below $50: Basic Budget G-Shocks. There are three "classic" G-Shock models that are still around from the 90"s – the DW5600, DW6900, and DW9052. They"re reliable digital G-Shocks that come with basic features and no frills attached. They"re the perfect beater watches – costs less than $50, but will probably last you more than a decade.
Intermediate, below $100: Slightly more advanced G-Shocks that often come in oversized cases. In addition to basic features, these models can have World Time, 5 alarms, dual time display, and occasionally the hands-free backlight feature. The analog-digital best-seller G-Shock GA100 belongs to this category, as wel
