Laptop manufacturer"s are actually assembling machines made from parts that are from 3rd parties. For example they will buy the processors from Intel or AMD, usually, hard disks from Seagate & Western Digital and screens from LG, Samsung, Boehydis and AUO for example.

As the laptop makers do not actually produce the screens they fit into their laptops they have no control over production or market availability. Components will change and screen models will also change over the lifetime of a laptop model"s manufacture.

If we enter our machine serial number into their parts lookup system, we can see a nice list of the components they have fitted to this particular model at the time it was made.

As you can see from the top left of the next screen we are told that this laptop is fitted with B156HTN03.6 FHD AG. I know from my experience that this is made by AU Optronics.

But what is this to the right hand side we are offered equivalent models, what"s this? Basically what has happened here is that Lenovo have used screens from 3 different manufacturer"s in this machine, we have the AU Optronics B156HTN03.6, we have the CHI MEI /Innolux N156HGE EAB and also a BoeHydis HB156FH1-401.

The short answer is yes, these are all as Lenovo claim, equivalent models. If you order a replacement screen from them they will send you one of those 3, or a newer model if those are not available and they have no stock of the originals. To be a compatible or equivalent screen it has to fit the laptop and work, which means the screen has to have the same technology as the old one, but why different models?

Different models have to be purchased as LCD manufacture changes frequently - and so do prices with the fluctuation in £ and $. The global LCD market is massive and LCD models change every quarter. To keep the industry moving new models are produced almost monthly and old models are removed from circulation. It could be that during some times of the year some brands or models of screen are unavailable or become obsolete. It could be that changes in global currency like the dollar affect decisions to buy different brands of the same type of screen.

We can only buy what is being produced and offered today - and specific model numbers change so if your laptop is more than a year old it is very likely the screen inside it is 2-3 years old and unlikely you will be able to find an exact replacement. No sweat - like car tyres there are a myriad of compatible options. We research these options and provide the best available product on the market today. It really isn"t in our interests to try and deceive clients and the substitution of part codes is not a deception and how the LCD industry MUST operate - there is no other option.

Every screen produced will differ slightly from the other, even from the same manufacturer. From different brands there can be subtle differences. The type of glass used and the electronics on the back of the screen that decode the colours can produce slightly different effects - CHI MEI for example use a "green" glass which produces nice contrast ratios and blacks.

Because every brand of screen and every screen model can exhibit slightly different display properties and the fact that exact match parts are impossible for us to provide most of the time, an alternate or compatible screen has to have

We are unable to discuss these metrics for the reasons stated in this article. Please request to return your screen for a refund if you do not want to keep it.

We have over a quarter of a million (!) part codes and rising on our database. Most of these are not being made anymore - so we advertise a screen compatible with xyz part code and also say in our terms that if a model is not available we will send the next best thing or currently available model.

In addition to the important compatibility specs there are other features of this model that are not taken into account - like the type of glass it is made of -and-

Laptop screen manufacturers and laptop screen suppliers must work with a limited set of compatibility parameters as they are governed by the laptop panel makers and current market trends. It"s not possible to match every spec from an old product to a new one.

For us to supply a compatible screen it will fit and work and should be as good or better as the original but there could be minor differences that, if you are a professional graphics person or photographer and have a specialist screen, you might want to check which model we are currently sending out. Most people will have no idea about this and will be just over the moon to repair their laptop, a very few people like to get upset if a different part is provided, some do not even want to try the part we"ve sent (which can often be better than the original).

The table below specifies the LCD panels verified by CompuLab for compatibility with computers-on-module. The table is sorted by “resolution”. For a further description of a field, see the key at the bottom of the page.

3 - The panel is compatible, the configuration is complicated, but still could be supported. Please verify with CompuLab"s technical support. This grade may also indicate marginality of hardware compatibility aspects.

CM-X270 has two graphics controllers, one of the PXA270 chip, and other of 2700G Advanced Multimedia Accelerator. Panel compatibility grade for CM-X270 can therefore specify two marks - first for PXA270 controller, and second (optional) for 2700G. Absence of second mark means that compatibility with 2700G was not yet verified for the particular panel.

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) very much in use and are around us which become a part of our life. LCD which is now very much in demand used in Laptops, Mobiles, Watches, Microwave ovens" and in many other electronic devices. LCD screens having a lot of advantages than other screens is that of its lighter weight, durability, fantastic looking, thinner and consuming less power than cathode ray tubes( CRTs).

We have seen LCD in laptop screen are using very much and even all laptop screens using liquid crystal display technology. Laptops whose screens are malfunctioned, destroyed, having some technical problems require not to change the whole of the laptop rather only replace the LCD screen and everything will be fine and it also not required much of money to spend.

LCD screen belongs to your particular laptop of any company model are replaced by any other compatible LCD screen of other companies models or screen part number.

LCD screen does not produce light by themselves rather it uses another source of light to illuminate an image clear and make it visible. There are two main differences in the way these screens are backlit:

CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light) backlight: It is an older technology and the most used in Lcd"s. This technology consists of fluorescent tube connected to the high voltage inverter board for backlighting and consisted of sometimes 2 bulb with 2 inverters. These are thicker and heavier and cost less by having shorten life span.

Next you should know the size of your laptop screen and the size of compatible screen which you are going to buy. Size of laptop screen consisted of 8.9", 10.0", 10.1", 10.2", 11.1", 12.1", 13.3", 13.4", 14.0", 14.1", 15.0", 15.4", 15.6", 16.0", 16.4", 17.0", 17.3" 18.4".

Next you should check your screen resolution which ranges in different numbers, percentage and histogram. The easiest way of checking your screen resolution is through screen resolution.org.

Screen resolution tells how many pixels are crammed on your screens all at once. If your screen resolution is 1280 x 800, it means that your screen has 1280 horizontal and 800 vertical pixels.

Ans: We source laptop screens directly from the manufactures like Samsung, LG, AUO, Sharp, ChiMei, Chunghwa, Toshiba and many more. We only sell genuine high quality screens which are exactly same installed in laptops by laptop manufacturers like Apple, Dell, HP, Sony, IBM Lenovo, Asus, Acer, Samsung, Packard Bell, MSI and Toshiba etc.

Ans:Laptop screen manufacturers release new model (version) of LCD screens from time to time. New model may have better quality, updated electrical parameters etc. As a result, there is may be hundreds of compatible LCD models available in the market. It will require millions of investment to stock every model of the screen. There is also possibility exact model may be outdated and no longer available in the market or price is very expensive.

We offer replacement screens which are 100% compatible with original LCD screen. It may be cheaper in price. This allow us to offer you better deals on new LCD models.

Ans: Upgrading CCFL to LED backlight is generally not possible. It is so because these screens have totally different connectors and power supplies which makes them incompatible. However, there are cable adapters available that allow LED screen to work with CCFL screen. These adapters are only compatible with certain laptop models. For the rest, in order to change or upgrade CCFL to LED, the motherboard will have to be replaced, which may result even more than the cost of the laptop.

Question:Laptop screen surface Glossy vs Matte? Ans:Laptop screen surface play a key factor while we are doing some professional work on laptop or playing games, watching movies, or sports etc. Laptop manufacture sell laptop with Gloss or Matte finish display depending on type of the laptop. When you purchase a replacement laptop screen, you might be offered with a choice. If original (faulty) screen has matte finish, you can replace it with a new one that is glossy, and same can happen vice versa.

These screens shine like a mirror if blank and are highly effective for indoor work. These are meant for having good visibility in darker environment. You can watch videos and play games with more vividly colours. So there is a sharp and bright colour that you can look for a good work.

If glossy screens are used in daylight or in very well lit environment then you might not be able to catch a glimpse of what is going on the screen. It is something problematic to use this otherwise valuable version in the screen introduction.

Matt finish screen have rough surface. It does not glow or shine, and that is why it is most suitable for the office environment where there is a strong light. It can be easily used in the daylight, and not causes a reflection in the eyes.

All screens are prepared with the finishing touch of Polarized Plastic, and it is the prime factor that determines whether the screen would be glossy or matte at end. The backlighting concept has made glossy screens popular as gloss panels are able to produce sufficient light that there is no room left for the external light that reflects form screen itself.

Laptop manufacturers have given different names for their glossy display. For example, Acer has named its glossy laptop screen as CrystalBrite, Asus, as Colour Shine and Dell as True Life.

Different names are given to different types of resolution by the LCD industry. These are identified with abbreviations. For example: 1366x768 is given the name HD (High Definition) and 1920x1080 for FULL HD. The latter has a very high resolution and displays an image that is twice the amount of pixels as compared to an HD screen.

Manufacturers have coined additional shorthand names for the same product. These shorthand names may be numbers and letters in an abbreviated form that signify the screen resolution. For example, the shorthand name 768p is also known as HD and 1080p as FULL HD.

Retina Display is used by Apple for screens having a higher pixel density. For the third generation MacBook Pro (15”), the resolution is 2880X1800 which makes the total pixel count of 5,184,000 and for the MacBook Pro (13”), the resolution is 2560X1600 making the pixel count to 4,096,000. With such high resolution, the quality of display is very high.

Leading laptop manufacturers are launching laptops with ultra HD screen which has a very high resolution of 3840x2160p which is four times higher than that of the standard Full HD screen.

Ans: Laptop screen display upgrade or downgrade is generally not recommended. The reason being the resulting distorted display. Problems like improper working of video cards may occur. Video cards are used for image processing and get overloaded when connected to a higher resolution LCD screen because higher processing power requirement. So improper working of video card will directly affect the image display. But you can always replace an old laptop screen with a new one if both of them have same resolution and other specification.

Ans:If you want to buy new screen with screen part number, you will need exact part number of the screen. Sometimes it is tricky to find screen part number. Usually screen part number is written either on back side of screen or inverter. The most important information is the manufacturer’s code and the screen size. Fortunately, the information for both can be found in one place, on the back side of the screen itself. For example let’s say the code you find on the back of your laptop screen is LP156WH2(TL)(A1).

This translates into having a LG Philips 15.6 inch screen. The “LP” is the code for LG Philips and the “156” is the code for the screen size of 15.6 inches. You’ll often see this code next to or above the UPS bar code for the screen.

A list of LCD screen manufacturers along with their abbreviations is given below. The first few letters of the model number correspond to the manufacturers.

Ans:Dead/ defective pixels are the pixels that do not perform properly. Few dead pixels do not make a screen completely useless because the pixel count goes in millions. Many standards have been set from time to time which provide the guidelines for the permissible defective pixel limit such as ISO 13406-2, ISO 9241-302, ISO 92341-303 etc. If 4 or 5 pixels are defected or dead, screen manufacturers consider it acceptable as it does not make screen poor quality or affect screen quality

We sell brand new screens and normally the error ratio is less than 0.1%. "Screen display up to 2 fixed pixels is within industry standards and is therefore considered acceptable display” However if there is any issue, please email us and we will try to resolve it.

What was wrong with the original panel? It"s possible the inverter is the problem -- in which case you won"t see anything on the screen other than in very bright light.

Please see the photo that I posted at the beginning of this conversation. This is a photo rather than a screenshot, because the BIOS was beginning to boot the PC -- and besides, if I waited for Windows to boot and then captured a screenshot, the screenshot would show the intended contents and would not know about the screen"s defect. An external monitor works correctly. Also if the inverter were the problem, there wouldn"t be a white band running down the middle of the screen.

Yes, but that doesn"t explain why the minor difference in part number causes the other screen to display nothing at all when Dell"s screen still displays most of the contents correctly.

If so, this line of chips is well known for faulty nVidia engineering -- and they can fail in such a way as that an external screen will work when the internal one doesn"t (i.e., exactly as you"d expect when it"s the screen that"s bad, not the video chip/mainboard).

Thank you. No one provided this information when I asked questions previously. So there"s still a chance that the primary problem is in nVidia instead of Dell"s screen, independent of the secondary problem that HP"s screen didn"t display anything.

Now for a tangent on nVidia"s defect, I gave an Inspiron 1720 to relatives. The Inspiron 1720 is mysteriously missing from Dell"s list of affected models. The one that I gave to relatives developed the same problem that nVidia is famous for, completely garbling the contents of the screen. I asked them to boot it once a week to keep the electronics in shape until I can try replacing the video board. So they did. And then suddenly a week ago that 1720 started working. So nVidia"s problem is intermittent, and the 1720 video board that I bought on eBay might remain unused. My other 1720 has been working fine.

When your LCD display has broken, needs replaced or simply needs a technology upgrade, and you have design/equipment elements to consider, you will want to look for a replacement part instead of replacing the unit.Problems may arise when you are sourcing the new panel from your original manufacturer. For example, by the time your panel has degraded, your LCD may be end of life, making it difficult to source;original manufacturers may be charging premium prices for their replacementLCD parts.AGDisplays offers a drop in replacement service for customers who need to replace an LCD or LCD component when their original panel/part is unavailable;this service is also for customers who are looking for a cost effective, suitable replacement or upgrade to their existing LCD. AGDisplays offers availability of standard or custom high-quality LCDs of virtually all shapes and sizes.

Replacing or upgrading the LCD component of your equipment sounds intimidating. It is rather simple if you begin your search with AGDisplays. By simply providing us with your panel part number, general specifications (if possible) and any other upgrade requirements or desires that you might have, we source these products for you or we can source an equivalent replacement, as desired. Using a replacement LCD does not compromise on quality and compatibility;we ensure functionality and performance are top priority because we know how critical the LCD interface is for your application.

You may receive notifications from your original equipment manufacturer about your LCD panel. There are a couple of announcements to pay attention to. The most important two are the end of life (EOL) announcement and the end of sale date. The end of life announcement will officialize a future cease production date for the indicated part number. It may also indicate the end of sale date, which is the last date customers are able to order the product through the manufacturer. After this date, the product will no longer be for sale. Typically end of life announcements come six to twelve months before the last time buy date. A few months later is when your last time buy will ship.

If you decide by this point that your equipment is well suited to use the LCD replacement, you may want to grab these panels when they get into the last time buy phase. If you find yourself ready to upgrade after EOL and last time buys have passed, don’t fret.A drop in replacement unit extends the lifecycle of your unit in the case of EOL or unavailability of original parts. Products are matched for compatible integration without compromising quality. AGDisplays offers a full line of compatible replacement industrial LCD display systems. When your design requires an upgrade in features but you still want to retrofit the LCD into your existing equipment, AGDisplays works together with you, discussing requirements and performance options. There are many signs an LCD will give the user to indicate that it may be due for replacement or upgrade. Even users who are not LCD experts will be able to tell when it is time to replace.

Outwardly, your LCD will show physical signs of damage such as a cracked or scratched, foggy or contaminated screen.Mostly, these damages are quickly noticeable to the naked eye and the first obvious sign that your panel may need a replacement. These are clear indications that the outside of your LCD has been damaged and is in need of evaluation or replacement. The application environment will determine the urgency in which you’ll want to replace the LCD. Cracks in the LCD may leave the LCD vulnerable to contamination and dust, which in turn can extend damage and/or decrease visual readability of the display.

Most LED technology estimate LED lifetimes to be upwards of 100,000 hours of useful life. This works out to be about six hours of usage a day—and 45 years of service, whew! So one can assume that LCD components will fail before the LED backlighting system will degrade. However, degradation does happen with long term usage. If your LCD is looking less bright than it should be, it is possible that a component in the display’s backlighting system needs replaced or upgraded.

LCDs that are broken internally may only show a black screen, a white screen, or even show no data when turned on. Other indications will be white/grey/black discoloration spots (called mura) of the display itself when it is turned on, regardless of the data/color that is shown on screen.

Another indication of a dying LCD aredamaged pixels. If you notice a small speck of white or black on your screen that does not go away, even as the screen changes, you may have a damaged pixel or two. There are a few different types of pixel defects, hot, stuck and dead pixels. Hot pixels present themselves as always ‘on,’ they always appear white in color. Dead pixels are always ‘off,’ and look black at all times. Now a stuck pixel is either stuck ‘on’ or ‘off’ so they may appear the same as a hot or dead pixel. These (sometimes) are solved by switching from bright to dark colored screens quickly to unstick these. However, this isn’t a reliable treatment for stuck pixels.

If you’ve notice defective pixels on your LCD screen, do not panic! Some manufacturers have a standard in which it allows a certain amount of pixels in production. Overall, if the LCD in question has an increased rebellion of pixels, whether hot, dead or stuck, the LCD may be of low quality or the pixels are going bad.

Sometimes white, black or multi colored streaks appear running horizontally or vertically along the display. If this is happening on every screen, this is a likely sign that something is wrong inside the LCD.

Signs of LCD degradation include those missing pixels, the dimming of screen brightness over time, and even the loss of color and contrast in a display. If you need more assurance the LCD is the problem, consult AGDisplays to discuss our replacement options.

Flat-panel displays are thin panels of glass or plastic used for electronically displaying text, images, or video. Liquid crystal displays (LCD), OLED (organic light emitting diode) and microLED displays are not quite the same; since LCD uses a liquid crystal that reacts to an electric current blocking light or allowing it to pass through the panel, whereas OLED/microLED displays consist of electroluminescent organic/inorganic materials that generate light when a current is passed through the material. LCD, OLED and microLED displays are driven using LTPS, IGZO, LTPO, and A-Si TFT transistor technologies as their backplane using ITO to supply current to the transistors and in turn to the liquid crystal or electroluminescent material. Segment and passive OLED and LCD displays do not use a backplane but use indium tin oxide (ITO), a transparent conductive material, to pass current to the electroluminescent material or liquid crystal. In LCDs, there is an even layer of liquid crystal throughout the panel whereas an OLED display has the electroluminescent material only where it is meant to light up. OLEDs, LCDs and microLEDs can be made flexible and transparent, but LCDs require a backlight because they cannot emit light on their own like OLEDs and microLEDs.

Liquid-crystal display (or LCD) is a thin, flat panel used for electronically displaying information such as text, images, and moving pictures. They are usually made of glass but they can also be made out of plastic. Some manufacturers make transparent LCD panels and special sequential color segment LCDs that have higher than usual refresh rates and an RGB backlight. The backlight is synchronized with the display so that the colors will show up as needed. The list of LCD manufacturers:

Organic light emitting diode (or OLED displays) is a thin, flat panel made of glass or plastic used for electronically displaying information such as text, images, and moving pictures. OLED panels can also take the shape of a light panel, where red, green and blue light emitting materials are stacked to create a white light panel. OLED displays can also be made transparent and/or flexible and these transparent panels are available on the market and are widely used in smartphones with under-display optical fingerprint sensors. LCD and OLED displays are available in different shapes, the most prominent of which is a circular display, which is used in smartwatches. The list of OLED display manufacturers:

MicroLED displays is an emerging flat-panel display technology consisting of arrays of microscopic LEDs forming the individual pixel elements. Like OLED, microLED offers infinite contrast ratio, but unlike OLED, microLED is immune to screen burn-in, and consumes less power while having higher light output, as it uses LEDs instead of organic electroluminescent materials, The list of MicroLED display manufacturers:

LCDs are made in a glass substrate. For OLED, the substrate can also be plastic. The size of the substrates are specified in generations, with each generation using a larger substrate. For example, a 4th generation substrate is larger in size than a 3rd generation substrate. A larger substrate allows for more panels to be cut from a single substrate, or for larger panels to be made, akin to increasing wafer sizes in the semiconductor industry.
