This is the facelifted Mazda 6 Atenza. The car on the photos is the China-made version, which is manufactured by FAW-Mazda. In China it is called the the Mazda Atenza, to differ it from the second and first generation Mazda 6 that are still in production. The facelift includes a new grille, new headlights, new taillights, a new front bumper, and an updated interior.

The facelifted Mazda 6 Atenza will hit the Chinese market on October 10. Price will start around 180.000 yuan and ends around 240.000 yuan. Engines are unchanged: 158hp 2.0 and a 192hp 2.5. Mazda still doesn’t do downsizing or turbocharging. These big old engines are very tax-unfriendly in China. One ‘box for both engines: a six speed automatic.

And there it is: the DVD CD tray! Wow. Nobody, really nobody, is using DVDs or CDs anymore. You can’t even buy them. People got i-things there days, with wireless wires and waves. What are they going to do with a DVD player..? New Chinese cars don’t have them anymore. Mazda is mad. And what did they put in the socket for the cigarette lighter? Looks like glue.

TOKYO, March 16 (Reuters) - In the Chinese coastal province of Jiangsu, where supply chains have been shattered by the coronavirus outbreak, one auto supplier has already shifted production of parts for Mazda Motor Corp 13,000 kilometres away to central Mexico’s Guanajuato State.

To deal with a Chinese production shortage of a component used in the exterior trim of the Mazda3 and CX-30 models, the auto supplier cranked up output of the part at its Mexico plant by 50%, airlifting the products to Mazda’s assembly line in Japan, a person at the supplier with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

A Mazda spokeswoman said the company was “assessing various countermeasures for swift recovery while minimising the impact on production at the same time”.

Although Mexico provided a solution for the Mazda supplier, the country is itself bracing for a supply crunch, with local officials warning that disruptions to parts shipments from China could deal a blow to its own auto manufacturing industry.

As one of Japan’s smaller automakers, Mazda trails rivals Toyota Motor Corp and Nissan Motor Co in sales and production capacity. To keep costs down, it has for years focused on sharing as many parts as possible across its line-up.

Relatively low volumes and the standardised design and production model also give Mazda and its suppliers more flexibility when considering options for shifting production, one Mazda insider said.

Time and cost concerns mean other suppliers will be less keen to follow the example of Koito and the Mazda supplier, despite expectations that it will take months for manufacturing output in China to return to normal.

If I were to do this (and I did do it for both of my 2010 and 2015 Mazda 5), I would get one of those universal android 7" 2din unit and a rear cam plus the mounting bracket/faceplate. It would be a fullfilling weekend project with definite result. After it is done, you get an offline GPS (I use the Here app with the whole US map stored inside the unit), backup camera, an outdated android (regardless of what they claim), bluetooth audio, usb storage audio playback, aux in and steering wheel control all set and ready to go for the cost of less than $150. Android and iPhone connectivity is also an option but I never understood the reason behind the need if the head unit is fully functional by itself so I never tried it.

I don"t disagree that the no brand android head units you find on ebay are trash but I had good experience with them. Not great but all I look for are working units with good value and I have had luck with these units. The one in my 2015 mazda5 has been working as expected since 2020.

The center cluster is equipped with a 10.25-inch LCD display. In addition, a new aligned type air conditioning outlet was designed.

Introduced in 2007, the Mazda CX-9 crossover has been refreshed twice, and I’ve now reviewed it three times. Some vehicles seem dated after just a few years on the market, but with its most recent Kodo design face-lift, the CX-9 retains a youthful appearance. We should all be so lucky.

The engaging driving dynamics are, of course, Mazda’s raison d"être, but still, few people expect crisp cornering in a large passenger utility wagon. The CX-9 drives a full size smaller than it is. No, it doesn’t have the cornering chops of a Mazda 3 or a 6, but you can’t get seven people in those, can you? Legally, I mean.

There are cues to the CX-9’s age. Normally, keyless ignition means pushing a button to fire up the engine. With the Mazda, you twist a knob where the key would normally go. Also, the ‘90s called and they want their red LCD display strip back. Even though we share a name, I’m not crazy about the Tom Tom navigation system either.

They have yet to launch an all-electric car, and Mazda executives have often talked down electric car technology publicly in favor of hydrogen fuel cells.

These plans have been pushed back, but Mazda CEO Akira Marumoto confirmed earlier this summer that the automaker was now aiming to launch its first electric car in 2020.

I’ve been critical of Mazda’s effort to go electric. Like Toyota, I think that they are being way too conservative and wasting time and money on hydrogen fuel cells.
