It is with widely accept major complaint replacements for original parts, which keeps a right balance between price and quality. It has sustainable supplying chain in China, and all the components of the screen are copy quality. Typically, the LCD screen is from several different factories, the most popular 4 on China market are JK,AUO, LongTeng, and ShenChao. By comparing the brightness and sharpness of the LCD, we found JK is the best quality among them and the second best is AUO. No doubt, the other components on the screen are all copy.

It is better than After Market Basic cause it comes with original laminated flexes and the LCD panel. Other components like touch panel, frame(hot pressed), backlight, polarize lens, and OCA is all copy from different factories.

The core components (like LCD and flexes) is 100% original pulled from used iPhone while the frame and touch panel is copy. The touch panel and frame come together with cold pressed glue and assembled together with the LCD by the capable third-party factory which keeps its excellent quality.

It is 100% original from Apple-authorized factories like Toshiba, Sharp, and LG. We get this kind of screen from the first level dealer. The touch panel of the screen is oleophobic coated which prevents from fingerprints when using your iPhone. And starting with iPhone 7g, the backlight from different authorized factories comes with a different code. Backlight from Sharp has the code begins with DKH/CON, from Toshiba begins with C11/F7C/FZQ, from LG begins with DTP/C3F.

So, what"s up with the OnePlus 3/3T screen? 1080p is obviously not as nice and crisp as a QHD display right? The Samsung S8 looks better than the 3T screen, so QHD is better than 1080p. Well ... that"s not the entire story.

I have a OnePlus One and 3T. The 3T Amoled screen is way better right? Uhmm ... actually ... NO! But isn"t AMOLED better than IPS? Well, AMOLED only tells half the story. And these days screen resolution is pretty misleading as well. What matters is sharpness, color accuracy, and brightness. Let"s compare, and remember that the OnePlus One and 3T have the same exact pixel-resolution.

The 3T has a "pentile" display. This means it"s "subpixels" (the individual color elements) are laid out in RGBG as opposed to RGB order. Additionally, they are in a weird diamond such that the Red and Blue subpixels are larger and sort of offset from the smaller green ones. Normally, a pixel on your screen is composed of 3 subpixels; Red, Green, and Blue. In a pentile display, the Red and Blue subpixels are shared between adjacent pixels! What this means is that your 1080p resolution only applies to the green pixels! Another way to look at it is that the OnePlus One has 6220800 subpixels available vs the OP3 which has only 4147200 available. This lower subpixel resolution combined with the diamond offset makes text (or any fine straight lines) look really fuzzy and if you look close, you get sort of a "screen door" effect. This isn"t due to the 1080p resolution as much as being an effect of the shortcomings of being a pentile display.

Pentile displays are cheaper, use less power, and last longer than conventional AMOLED displays. The big push for higher resolution displays is partly to make up for the these shortcomings. Increasing resolution is an easy fix. But, the OnePlus 3T sharpness is worse than my OPO even though the resolution is rated exactly the same. Beware of specs! This also means that people that say the QHD display looks better than the 3T"s 1080p are correct, and people that say that QHD is pointless on a phone are also correct. If the display were a true HD, you wouldn"t notice the difference so dramatically! Don"t expect the use of the pentile display to change in the OP5. This is the direction technology is going. Just hope they cover up the problem with a higher resolution display like everyone else does (rumors say they are).

The OnePlus One got rave reviews for its amazing color accuracy, and it was pretty much configurable in every aspect with Cyanogen"s OS. The 3T is lagging behind just a bit, and the 3 is just horrible (basically the same as the OPX). The problem has to do with OnePlus using an outdates NTSC color reference which was supposed to make video look better. Personally, I find the display a tad too intense and the sRGB option (added due to criticism of the NTSC default) to be washed out. The main thing I notice is that the display seems to put too much emphasis on the red. I set it to custom and just a tad cooler than the default. I"ve been playing the kernel-level changes, but the display is incredibly hard to calibrate manually!

Since Android doesn"t support color profile information, this will continue to be a problem and color accuracy will be like trying to hit a moving target. However, since testing confirms that OnePlus made changes between the 3T and the 3, and added sRGB and customization based on demand, maybe they will continue to make positive changes.

The One has a maximum brightness of 447 nits. The 3T is 407 (and BTW, the 3 is 409 and has horrible scores for just about everything else so apparently the screens are not the same). These are actual measurements you can view on phonearena.com. And I don"t know who is quoting the crazy 1000+ nit figure for the Galaxy S8, but its 565 in auto mode (which detects sunlight and turns on high bightness mode) and less in manual mode. You may see other figures listed since the ratings are always higher than the measurements. The S8 is rated at 693 auto (448 manual), but that changes the 3T to 430 nits. However, I found that the system actually uses a reduce 380nit mode for it"s highest brightness. Perhaps this was done to conserve battery life, but switching to the 430 nit mode drastically increases readability in bright sunlight. This is done via a /sys file that talks to the linux kernel driver. There are 3 settings: 0 = 380 nits (default), 1 = 430 nits, 2 = High Brightness Mode (HBM). Since we can always turn the brightness down, I think perhaps the 380nit mode should be used when Night Mode is on and the 430 nit mode normally. Setting 2 for HBM ignores the brightness slider and on some phones (like the S8) allows for brighter settings. OnePlus doesn"t use it, but I have mine turn on (using Tasker) whenever the light level is above 80% and it makes the screen very readable in the sun. There is also an app that can turn on HBM using a widget. From my testing, HBM is the same as the 430 nits mode (or I can"t tell the difference) on older OOS versions, but the latest Beta 5 seems to ignore the 430 nit mode (since it doesn"t use it natively - so setting to 0 or 1 is now the same) but still cranks up the brightness to 430 when HBM is on. Either way, It would be nice if the OS set this itself. Maybe the changes in Beta signify something good to come.

This also includes the regular Oneplus 3, but the criticism surprises me a lot. People undermine it due to a 1080p display. But honestly, its one of the best screens I"ve seen on the market. It looks much better compared to phones like the Iphone 7 plus, Zte axon 7, Huawei mate 7 and pretty much looks the same as the Samsung galaxy S7 with the benefit of saving battery.

But if you"re using official repair center, then most big manufacturers have used display modules rather than LCD + touch panel on their flagships for years now.

The OnePlus 3T imaging feature set strikes a very good balance between offering the essentials and keeping the user interface simple and intuitive. There aren"t any filter options or really gimmicky modes, but all you need for daily shooting is on board. The rest you"ll easily find on the Google Play Store.

The OnePlus 3T"s HDR mode can be triggered from the main screen and is therefore easily accessible. In practice, its usefulness is limited though. As you can see in the samples below the impact on the shadow areas in much more noticeable than on the highlights. Clipping on the bright dome of the building has only been reduced marginally.

Panorama mode is accessed in the mode panel by swiping from the left edge. Panoramic images are recorded while panning the device in portrait orientation. The camera can record a full 360 degrees but you can stop any time by pressing the shutter.

At 16MP the OnePlus 3T offers one of the currently highest front camera resolutions which has obvious benefits in bright conditions: the OnePlus front camera is resolving noticeably more detail than many rivals. Despite some noise in the first sample below, overall the image is quite clean. Bright illumination easily leads to highlight clipping on skin tones, though.

OnePlus is at a crossroads. The company which started with exciting "flagship killers" is now better known for its humdrum budget phones instead. But OnePlus is set to change that and its new flagship phone, the OnePlus 11, is the first big step in that direction.

As a fresh start, the OnePlus 11 comes with a new and more refined look including a gorgeous round camera system, but the bigger changes are on the inside. It helps that all of that change is driven by the impressive new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, one of the best mobile processors in years. The phone also comes with signature OnePlus touches like insanely fast charging speeds and the useful Alert Slider.

So with all those improvements, can the OnePlus 11 finally match the big dogs like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, iPhone 14 Pro Max and the Google Pixel 7 Pro? Let"s find out!

You can get the new OnePlus flagship at BestBuy as well. The retailer is selling the unlocked versions of the device, but you can activate it on any carrier at the time of order or later.

Don"t forget that we have an in-depth look at the OnePlus 11 specs, and you can easily compare it against other phones too, like this here OnePlus 11 vs OnePlus 10 Pro specs comparison.

This is generous packaging for a 2023 phone, considering that most flagships these days don"t even have a charger included in the box, let alone a case, so we appreciate OnePlus still packing all of those things in the box.

The OnePlus 11 comes in one size only and while it is a big phone with a 6.7-inch screen size, it does not feel as large and as heavy as the Galaxy S23 Ultra or iPhone 14 Pro Max. This is one of our biggest complaints against those otherwise great devices, so we"re happy to see OnePlus going with a more svelte device.

The design of the OnePlus 11 is actually similar to the previous OnePlus 10 Pro, but compared side to side, you can definitely see the refinement of this new phone. The OnePlus 11 features a glass back and aluminum frame. The glass is Corning"s Gorilla Glass Victus on the front, while on the back you have Corning"s older generation Gorilla Glass 5.

OnePlus phones usually don"t have an official IP rating, but this one does. The OnePlus 11 is rated IP64 for some water and dust protection. That is less than the IP68 rating of other flagships that can easily survive being submerged in water for a while, so it"s definitely not a good idea to submerge this phone in water.

OnePlus is not disclosing the panel technology used, but unofficial sources say it uses the older Samsung E4 OLED panel, rather than the newer E6 panels. This is one slight compromise compared to other new 2023 phones, but you probably have to be really obsessed about screen quality to actually notice.

Next, in terms of biometrics, the OnePlus 11 uses an optical in-screen fingerprint scanner, which feels fast and accurate, so we have no complaints. Also, you have face unlock via the front camera, just keep in mind that this is simple image-based 2D system and is not as secure as the 3D type like Apple"s Face ID.

One of our favorite features of the OnePlus 11 is a brand new vibration motor, which is 67% larger than before. OnePlus humbly calls it "the king of Android motors", and we have to agree that it feels incredibly precise. It gives off delicate haptics while typing, while you still don"t miss calls and notifications. For the first time, you now have support for "double vibration", particularly useful in games. Others in the Android space now have to catch up.

You get a 50MP main camera sensor here, but interestingly, OnePlus uses the Sony IMX890 sensor, which at least in theory is not quite as impressive as the larger 1-inch type Sony IMX989 sensor used by rivals from Xiaomi and Vivo.

The ultra-wide camera sensor is a 48MP one and it can focus as close as 3.5cm for macro shots and the third rear camera is a 2X zoom lens, great for portraits. However, those who want to be able to zoom further might be disappointed as the OnePlus 11 lacks a long-range zoom lens.

The OnePlus 11 main camera tends to capture warmer colors with a good amount of saturation without going to the extreme. Images are contrasty, with deep blacks and overall we like this look, it"s a bit more toned down than your typical Samsung phone, but much more vibrant than say a Google Pixel, so it"s kind of a good middle ground.

In low light, the OnePlus also does an excellent job. Exposure is good, detail is just a tiny bit sharper than ideal, but nowhere nearly as extreme as on the latest iPhone 14 Pro or Galaxy S23 Ultra, so that"s a good thing.

Similarly to the main camera, the OnePlus 11 favors warmer colors and a brighter exposure with its ultra-wide camera during the day. This is one of the best ultra-wide cameras we have tested in 2023, photos look great both during the day and at night.

While the OnePlus 11 lacks a dedicate long-range zoom camera, it does a decent job with digital zoom. Sure, it"s a step back compared to phones like the Pixel 7 Pro which has a 5X zoom camera or the Galaxy S23 Ultra which has two zoom cameras, a 3X and 10X one, but it"s not too far behind.

Portrait mode quality on the Pixel uses very rough crops from the main camera and the quality is the worst out of any modern flagship. The OnePlus 11 on the other hand is able to capture very pleasing portrait mode shots and the 2X zoom lens is a god-send for portraits.

For selfies, the differences between the two are only amplified, as the OnePlus captures an even brighter exposure than typical, and the Pixel goes for an even darker and moodier shot than usual. Both are not ideal, but if we had to pick one, we would go with the brighter shots out of the OnePlus.

The OnePlus 11 can record up to 8K video, which sounds impressive on paper, but once put to the test, you can see that video quality is just not on par with flagship rivals.

We opted for 4K recording as the most common format and while in perfect conditions you can get decent videos, there are two bigger issues with OnePlus 11 video quality. The first one is about the stabilization, which is below average, and the second is with the slightly washed out colors and often too bright exposure during the day. When you film while walking around there is a noticeable pulsing in the colors too.

In low light, the viewfinder on the OnePlus 11 is deceptive as it appears that the recording is extremely dark, while the final processed video is actually brighter. However, you notice the poor stabilization again, as well as a lot of noise in the darker areas. The OnePlus 11 gets a passing grade for video quality, but not much more.

The base version of the phone ships with 8GB of RAM which is okay, but if you opt for the 256 gig version, you get the OnePlus 11 with a whopping 16GB of RAM. This is an insane amount of RAM, and it"s a worthy upgrade. OnePlus says that the base 8GB RAM OnePlus 11 version can have 18 apps running in the background, while the 16GB RAM model can have an incredible 44 apps running in the background. We haven"t put this to the test, but this is the kind of performance that you usually get on more expensive phones.

In terms of RAM, the OnePlus 11 beats the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Pixel 7 Pro and pretty much all other phones on the market, except for the gaming-oriented Asus ROG Phone.

When it comes to CPU performance, the OnePlus 11 is big jump over the previous generation and about on par with the rest of the 2023 Android flagships.

For gaming, we run the 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme test that runs for 20 minutes and it shows very aggressive throttling on the OnePlus 11. Performance drops quickly, in just about 3 or 4 minutes.

The OnePlus 11 comes in either a 128 gig or 256 gig storage versions, and the 256GB one comes with the newer and faster UFS 4.0 storage, so that"s one solid argument for getting it. This newer storage standard brings a huge leap in read/write speeds and allows the actual chips to be smaller. UFS 4.0 has double the read speeds of UFS 3.1, reaching up to 4,200MB/s for read and 2,800MB/s for write.

The RAM on the OnePlus 11 is also of the faster LPDDR5X kind, and it brings a 33% speed boost and is 20% more energy efficient compared to the previous generation.

The OnePlus 11 will not be sold on US carriers, but you will be able to buy at big box retailers and Amazon with compatible 5G bands for the US market.

The Chinese model of the OnePlus 11 which launched a couple of months earlier has different software and different cellular bands, so if you are buying from some less known store make sure you get the right model for your market.

The OnePlus 11 ships with Android 13, but the actual skin on top differs depending on the model. The US and global models run on Oxygen OS, while the Chinese version has ColorOS 13.

The OxygenOS skin is clean and very well optimized, and for the first time, OnePlus promises four years of major OS updates, which means it will be getting Android 17, just like the Galaxy S23 Ultra. And it will also get 5 years of bi-monthly security updates. This is great news as OnePlus earlier did not have the longest software support, and the 11 is finally fixing that.

At the same time, we have to mention that this is not your standard Android version. Things like clearing and expanding notification happen differently than on most other Android phones. For example, on most Android phones, you can swipe either left or right to clear a notification, while on the OnePlus 11 a swipe left brings a menu instead of clearing the notification. Also, a swipe down on a notification typically expands it on most Android phones, but not on the OnePlus 11, where you have a small button that you have to tap to expand the notification. You get used to that, but it is quite inconvenient.

In our independent battery tests, we found the OnePlus 11 lasted about on par with last year"s model when it comes to web browsing, and it scored lower on our YouTube video playback test.

The video streaming results are strong on the OnePlus 11, it even beats the Galaxy S23 Ultra on that test, but interestingly in the use case with web browsing the OnePlus 11 scores way below the average. Altogether, you should not expect wonders out of the OnePlus 11 battery, but no huge disappointments either. This phone will last you through an even more intense day easily, but it"s not on the same level as battery champs such as the iPhone 14 Pro Max or Galaxy S23 Ultra.

What is extra-ordinary about the OnePlus 11 is its charging speed. You get 80W max charging speeds (100W if you live outside the US), which a neat upgrade from the 10 Pro. A full charge takes just half an hour, truly impressive!

OnePlus promises that despite those fast charging speeds, there will be no quick degradation of the battery health and a battery should last around four years before it"s due for replacement, which the company estimates is twice as long as competitors.

Of course, this charging speed is not quite a world record, this is currently held by Xiaomi and its 210W charging system (full charge in under 10 minutes). However, those phones are not available in the U.S. market, so the OnePlus 11 is currently the fastest charging phone state-side.

The OnePlus 11 does NOT support wireless charging, which might disappoint some people. But if you ask us, we don"t think this is much of a loss with this kind of wired charging speeds.

OnePlus explains that it"s removing the "Pro" because that just adds unnecessary complexity to the name. You don’t need to have a Pro name for a device that’s already Pro, says OnePlus, and it doesn"t want to upsell you a "Pro" or an "Ultra". It"s about being honest with customers, according to the company, and we appreciate that.

At the $700 price of the OnePlus 11, it is one of the cheapest phones running on the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and undercuts even the Google Pixel 7 Pro. This is excellent value and very exciting news for those who don"t want to spend a fortune on a flagship phone.

Comparing the Galaxy S23 Ultra vs OnePlus 11, the OnePlus is cheaper, not as gargantuan, it has faster charging, while the Galaxy has a more versatile camera system with longer zoom range, the S Pen, and the Samsung Experience interface. Of course, the Galaxy is nearly 50% more expensive.

Comparing the OnePlus 11 vs Pixel 7 Pro, the OnePlus is more affordable yet has a faster processor, it"s a better device for gaming, it has faster charging, and is able to capture better looking portrait shots. The Pixel, on the other hand, has day one Android updates, its own quirky UI that many people like, an overall slightly better camera system and a few interesting features like Call Screening and superb voice recognition.

Comparing the OnePlus 11 vs iPhone 14 Pro, the OnePlus has the advantage of being of a more manageable size, more affordable, plus it"s got faster charging and the open Android system, while the iPhone has the iOS platform with long software updates, a slightly faster chip, better video recording quality and funky features like the Dynamic Island.

The company made quite a few mis-steps in the past couple of years, but the OnePlus 11 feels like a device that is well positioned for success. At its $700 price, it undercuts most other phones on the market. It is actually the most affordable flagship phone with the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip inside.

Here is what we loved the most about the OnePlus 11: the beautiful and lightweight design feels way more comfortable than lugging around a giant and heavier phone, the phone runs fast and smooth, the insane charging speeds change the way you think about charging your phone in general, and all just seems to work well.

The camera remains the one thing that OnePlus cannot quite impress us with. It"s a decent shooter, but decent doesn"t cut it when you are competing with the Galaxy S23, Pixel 7 series and the iPhone 14 family. We are also iffy about the software and all its quirks and weird way to clear and expand notifications. We were also surprised to see the phone throttle more than others with this powerful chip, but this should probably only worry hardcore gamers.

However, the big promise that OnePlus makes is that it will support this phone longer than ever before and it will keep it up to date. That"s huge! If OnePlus lives up to its promise, the OnePlus 11 is finally a new flagship by the company that we can actually recommend.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 5G comes with an improved under-display camera (UDC) which was first introduced in 2021. The main screen of this foldable phone is a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 22.5:18 aspect ratio, QXGA+ (2208 x 1768) resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 374ppi. Thanks to that UDC, you get an 90.9% screen-to-body ratio.

Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 4 is yet another under-screen camera phone. It calls its implementation CUP (Camera Under Panel), but the mechanism is pretty much the same as the other under-display selfie cameras out there. Above its 20MP selfie camera lies 400ppi pixels of the screen. This display stretches 6.67 inches and sports 120Hz refresh rate.

Legion Duel 2 is a gaming smartphone from Lenovo that’s envisioned to be used in landscape orientation primarily. The screen is a 6.92-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel with 144Hz refresh rate, 1300 nits peak brightness, 111.1% DCI-P3 color gamut support, and 20.5:9 aspect ratio.

OnePlus was one of the first few Android OEMs to usher in a notch, and it’s also one of the first in the premium segment to get rid with OnePlus 7 Pro (review). It further continued the trend with OnePlus 7T Pro which comes with a gorgeous true full-view display with extremely narrow bezels.

The 6Z (globally known as the Zenfone 6) is one of the most impressive phones we have seen from Asus in India. The 6Z (review) has a gorgeous and well-calibrated IPS LCD display that covers the entire facia. The selfie camera is housed in a flip module and this glass body phone houses a massive 5000mAh battery while being reasonably manageable.

The 6.4-inch screen has Full HD resolution which is quite sharp considering this is an IPS LCD and not AMOLED screen. This competitively priced Snapdragon 855-powered phone also has stereo speakers, 48MP primary camera, and runs an extremely close-to-stock version of Zen UI.

Motorola One Fusion Plus rocks a 6.5-inch full HD+ notch-less TFT-LCD screen. It’s pop-up camera houses a 16MP sensor. Pivot and by the back you get a 64MP quartet.

Huawei Y9 Prime is the first Huawei phone in India to deliver a full-view screen. The IPS LCD display on the phone measures 6.59-inch and is full HD sharp.

iQOO took the whole market by storm with the launch of the iQOO 9 Pro 5G. The smartphone stands as a strong competitor of devices like the OnePlus 9 Pro in the market. It comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display that also has a 120Hz refresh rate to offer a smoother experience. The smartphone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage in the high-end variant of the device.

The OnePlus 10 series failed to make an impact like the OnePlus 9 series due to the changes and experiments. Still, the OnePlus 10 Pro was something which the audience loved because of the specs. The device works on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor with 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. The smartphone comes equipped with a Fluid AMOLED display and 120Hz refresh rate.

The various revisions of eDP are based on existing DisplayPort standards. However, version numbers between the two standards are not interchangeable. For instance, eDP version 1.4 is based on DisplayPort 1.2, while eDP version 1.4a is based on DisplayPort 1.3. In practice, embedded DisplayPort has displaced LVDS as the predominant panel interface in modern laptops and modern smartphones.

The OnePlus 9 Pro is a culmination of the company’s efforts over a couple of years, and it’s the first time a smartphone from the company has felt like the complete package.

As our OnePlus 9 Pro review will explain, it offers top-end power, a great camera experience and all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a flagship smartphone right now.

In fact, this is a handset that can genuinely compete with the very best phones from the biggest brands, and it"s certainly one of the best OnePlus phones. However, it also comes with a high-end price tag, and there’s no denying that the OnePlus 9 Pro is an expensive choice for your next phone.

The OnePlus 9 Pro has a premium design, with a handsome 6.7-inch QHD display that delivers strong brightness levels and top-notch detail, while a super-smooth 120Hz refresh rate adds to the top-tier feel.

The handset itself may be too big for some, but the design feels worth the money, with a glass rear and the choice of three colors to ensure that your new OnePlus matches your style – we think the Morning Mist shade pictured throughout this review is particularly good-looking.

The OnePlus 9 Pro’s biggest upgrade is in the camera department. The company is putting a strong emphasis on photography here, which includes partnering with legendary camera brand Hasselblad to improve how colors are processed.

We were impressed by the cameras throughout our time with the OnePlus 9 Pro – the versatile setup delivers great results in auto mode, and can produce some stunning images to rival those from the very best camera phones.

Photography-wise it may not be the absolute best choice for everyone, but OnePlus has made notable improvements and it’s now an option that can compete with the likes of the iPhone 12 or Samsung Galaxy S21.

The OnePlus 9 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, and the phone is well capable of doing everything you need it to. Battery life isn’t the absolute best we’ve seen on a smartphone, but it’ll mostly last you a full day, and there are a couple of fast-charging options.

Until the launch of the OnePlus 10 Pro, the OnePlus 9 Pro was the best smartphone the brand had ever made, and one of the best Android phones full stop.

The OnePlus 9 Pro was revealed on March 23, 2021 in a virtual event from the company, and preorders went live immediately after the event finished. The phone is now available in the UK and the US.

We don’t expect the OnePlus 9 Pro to be on sale in Australia as the company doesn"t often sell its phones there. In the US, you"ll only be able to buy the higher storage variant of the OnePlus 9 Pro while both variants are available in the UK.

Want more storage and extra RAM? There’s also a 12GB / 256GB model of the OnePlus 9 Pro, which costs $1,069 / £929 (about AU$1,400). If those prices sound a bit steep, there’s also the OnePlus 9, which was unveiled alongside the 9 Pro and which starts at $729 / £629 (about AU$950).

At least, those were the prices at launch, but now many stores - including OnePlus itself - have reduced the price. At the time of writing you can pick it up from a starting price of £629 for the 8GB version or $799 / £729 for the 12GB model. But of course this is no longer the newest model in the range either.

The OnePlus 9 Pro isn’t a big departure from the company’s last few handsets, and if you’ve owned a phone from the company since the OnePlus 7 you won’t be particularly surprised by the design here.

It looks premium, and when you handle the device it feels premium. The OnePlus 9 Pro has a glass rear, and you’ve got the choice of three colors: Morning Mist (the silver shade pictured throughout this review), Forest Green and Stellar Black. You may be restricted to certain colors depending on where you are, so don’t set your heart on one particular color until you’ve seen what’s available.

OnePlus has trimmed down the camera bump on the OnePlus 9 Pro compared to its previous handsets, but it still juts out from the rear of the phone. You’ll find the Hasselblad logo emblazoned on the camera alongside four shooters (you’ll learn more about the cameras, and about the Hasselblad connection, in the Cameras section of this review).

Overall, the OnePlus 9 Pro has a premium look and feel that can rival any other top-end phone you’ll find on the market right now. Not much has changed here compared to previous OnePlus Pro phones, and that’s just fine with us.

The OnePlus 9 Pro comes with a large and high-resolution display befitting its Pro status. It’s 6.7 inches from corner to corner, with a QHD resolution of 1440 x 3216 – that equals 525 pixels per inch. That resolution on this AMOLED display is noticeable from the moment you first turn on the display with images jumping out of the screen and text appearing razor-sharp.

As on 2020’s OnePlus 8 Pro, the display has a 120Hz refresh rate, which is starting to become the norm on top-end Android phones. This means the display refreshes 120 times a second, rather than 60 times on older smartphones and some current flagships, like the iPhone 12, which have a 60Hz refresh rate.

OnePlus smartphones have always struggled to keep up with other top-end Android phones in the camera department, but the OnePlus 9 Pro has the best camera we’ve seen on a handset from the company.

OnePlus has stepped up its game here by including new sensors with at least one of them made in combination with Sony, and by teaming up with famed camera maker Hasselblad to improve color calibration, so that the colors you see are reproduced as accurately as possible.

The main sensor on the OnePlus 9 Pro is a cut above what OnePlus has made before, and we found that it could take fantastic images, with great-looking colors and masses of detail.

If you compare images to those taken with previous OnePlus phones, you’ll find that colors look far more natural, which we presume is the result of the aforementioned collaboration with Hasselblad. The image quality here is more like what you get from Apple’s iPhones, rather than what you’d see from a Samsung phone, for example.

We’ve also been impressed with how the OnePlus 9 Pro can produce great results even when you’re using its automatic mode, when you want to just point and shoot with the minimum of fuss.

The telephoto zoom camera on the OnePlus 9 Pro is capable of shooting at up to 3x optical zoom, beyond which it’ll switch to a digital zoom for anything up to 30x zoom.

The main camera has both optical and electronic image stabilization to ensure that footage is shake-free and overall you’ll likely be happy with the quality of video shot on the OnePlus 9 Pro

The OnePlus 9 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, and as has been the case with other Android phones using this chip, we’ve been impressed with the top-end performance it enables, with the phone loading apps almost instantaneously.

The 8GB model of the OnePlus 9 Pro comes with 128GB of storage, while if you opt for the 12GB phone you get 256GB. Those in the US are currently only able to buy the 12GB of RAM option, while those in the UK have the choice of these two variants.

We’ve reviewed the 12GB version of the OnePlus 9 Pro, and we found its benchmark scores to be particularly strong. We haven’t seen any reason to doubt that the 8GB variant is also a strong performer, although we’ve yet to test that phone.

The OnePlus 9 Pro is also a 5G-ready handset, so you’ll be equipped to take advantage of next-gen internet connectivity even if you don’t expect to be using it in the near future.

The phone comes running Android 11 right out of the box, with OnePlus’s own OxygenOS look over the top, which brings with it a variety of features such as an always-on display and the brand’s own unique look and feel.

The OnePlus 9 Pro isn’t going to offer game-changing battery life, but it’ll reliably see you through a full day on a full charge with typical use. Only on one or two occasions during our testing time did we need to give OnePlus 9 Pro a top-up at around 10pm.

The 4,500mAh battery is large, and the OnePlus 9 Pro can hold its own against most of our best smartphones right now in this department, but it won’t last you two days if you’re using the phone regularly.

There’s 65-watt wired charging, and, perhaps more impressively, the OnePlus 9 Pro supports 50 watt wireless charging, which is some of the highest spec we’ve seen for this technology, and which is particularly impressive given that OnePlus didn’t embrace wireless charging until 2020’s OnePlus 8 series.

Unlike competing phones from Apple, Samsung and a handful of other Android manufacturers, the OnePlus 9 Pro comes with a new charger in the box. Several manufacturers have removed chargers from the box, citing the need to cut down on e-waste, but OnePlus has seen fit to include one here.

The Snapdragon 888 chipset combined with 12GB of RAM has impressed us during our testing, and if you’re after a top-end phone with great power, the OnePlus 9 Pro fits the bill. It’ll run any app or game you want it to without breaking sweat.

The results of OnePlus’s collaboration with Hasselblad are clear to see, with images having more lifelike colors than we’ve seen from previous OnePlus phones. This isn’t the very best camera phone you can buy, but it is a step above the OnePlus 8 series.

OnePlus hasn’t included microSD support on any of its phones to date, and it’s the same story with the OnePlus 9 Pro isn’t an exception. If you want the option to expand your phone’s storage as and when needed, look elsewhere.

If you’re used to a smartphone that can last over a day, you’ll be disappointed with the OnePlus 9 Pro. The middling battery life won’t prove especially frustrating to most people, but neither is it going to impress you.

The OnePlus 9 Pro isn’t a cheap handset, costing as it does the equivalent of some of the very best phones from brands such as Apple and Samsung. OnePlus"s best phones are no longer the "flagship-killers" they were once branded as, and you"ll have to look to the company"s Nord series if you want a more affordable option.

iPhone 13 ProThe iPhone 13 Pro landed in the same year as the OnePlus 9 Pro and it"s positioned at a similar end of the market. It"s slightly speedier and packs a slightly more tired design, but really the big difference is the operating system.

OnePlus 9If you don"t need the telephoto camera or the QHD+ screen of the OnePlus 9 Pro, you could consider the otherwise similar OnePlus 9, and save some money in the process.

OnePlus 10 ProThe OnePlus 10 Pro is the successor to the OnePlus 9 Pro, so it"s newer, more expensive, and more powerful. It also has a bigger battery, faster charging and other upgrades, but offers an overall similar experience.
