Resistive and capacitive touch panels are almost always used in the LCD sector. Nowadays, however, the focus is on capacitive touch panels, because they have a longer service life and thus a big advantage over resistive ones. CTPs (capacitive touch panels) offer a choice of three different structures.

An interface is the connection between the display and the control unit. The RGB and LVDS interfaces are used particularly often. A basic distinction is made between serial and parallel interfaces. The most commonly used are SPI, I2C, MCU, RGB, LVDS and MIPI-DSI. However, the SPI, I2C and MCU interfaces are mostly used for settings in the LCD controller and not for the playback of image content (except for character LCDs or small graphic displays with dimensions up to 320 x 240 mm).

The first and most important point is brightness. Since around 90 percent of the light is absorbed by LCDs, polarisation foils or other components, sufficiently bright LEDs are needed.

Most industrial TFTs today have an edge LED backlight. The backlight illuminates the entire surface of the TFT, so if we reduce the brightness of the backlight, it affects the entire TFT surface at the same time.

Since last summer it has been known that Mitsubishi Electric will no longer produce TFT and LCD displays in its production facility in Japan from June 2022.

Small monochrome displays are already widely used in various applications. However, the representation of colors is also increasingly desired for such displays. For the representation of colors TFT displays are mostly used.
