Review:I"m giving a 3 star review because the keyboard bundle in itself is great so far, but it is a flat-out lie that the app with the music and teaching functions is free. You sign up for it before you find out it is only free for 1 week, then you are charged $119.95 for the next year; yes, you are charged the $119.95 all at once the week after you receive the keyboard and sign in on the app. Read more

Review:I kept mulling over getting this keyboard because it was some brand I"d never heard of. But the price was right, so I decided to give it a shot. This keyboard didn"t even last me a second. I was elated to find this delivered and sitting on my porch and I couldn"t wait to plug it in and try it out. The instant I hit the Power button, I was blasted with feedback. I fiddled with the power plug and the feedback died down a little, but it was still buzzing and it would not go away. This caused me to start to look at the keyboard a little closer and I began to notice the things I could not live without. Here were my issues with this keyboard, all discerned in the first 2 minutes: 1. The feedback. 2. The LCD Display was not working. 3. Very heavy. 4. The power button is very cheaply made. It felt terrible pushing. To give you an idea, this felt like I was pressing an emergency shunt to shut off gasoline pumps at your local convenience store (if you"ve ever done that). 5. The keys felt like cheap plastic. 6. The feel of the keys was way off. It took too much force to strike a key. 7. I could see the circuit board in between keys. This may seem insignificant, but this demonstrates that there is a direct path for your spilled drink to fry the circuitry. I really should"ve trusted my gut and gone with an established brand. Review:I bought this product new not too long ago, and one of the keys just cracked and broke while I was playing. Is there anyway I can have it replaced? Without this key it is completely useless. Please reply ASAP. See photo attached. Read more

Review:My 85-year-old mom is rocking this 61-key electric keyboard. It’s the perfect size for small spaces, and the headphones are a great solution to community living. If you have elders in your life, musical instruments like electronic keyboards are a smart way to keep them engaged and productive – especially if they already have musical training. Even for those seniors without a background in music, the RockJam makes playing piano accessible through the 30 demo songs and teaching program. More importantly, no matter your level of experience, the medium encourages multi-generational collaboration and use thanks to all the techno features – rhythms, tones, chords, vibrato, and demo tracks – that kids and grandkids understand and appreciate. The fun factor is built in, and the opportunities for practical application are also available. My mom is already practicing songs for a holiday celebration in their complex. Maybe she’ll really wow her audience by setting one of the tunes to a reggae rhythm with a synthesizer tone. The added value of the foot pedal – a tool that sustains the tone of the struck note – makes the RockJam a serious musical instrument despite all its techno bells and whistles. Bottom line: You can be a rock star or a classical musician with this keyboard. An outstanding all-ages instrument for the young and the young at heart. Read more

Review:STAND: I feel the stand works quit well. Once you have everything tightened and the key board actually attached to it, it all feels very sturdy. I love that it is adjustable in height. I purchased this for my 5 yr old, (although it can be used for an adult as well), and the adjustable stand brought the keyboard down to just the right height for her. (it goes pretty low to normal height) SEAT: is not adjustable, but since the stand is, so it doesn"t matter. The seat is a bit small. It"s probably fine for a very small adult and children. But if you are an average to larger size person like me, then you will want to purchase the piano separately and get a larger keyboard/piano bench. HEADPHONES: not a very good quality. They crackle at times. I use a child"s headphone set because it limits the volume output. LCD SCREEN: Is nice. If you want to know what a key is, you just press the key and it shows up on the grand staff on the screen. But I use sticker notes for my daughter, and you can see them better. Nice to have a built in metronome. CON: (-1 star) Every time you turn the keyboard on, the default volume is max, and you have to adjust it. I don"t see a place where I can change this to default to a lower setting. My casio turns down extremely low, and when I turn it off, the next time I use it, it is still at the volume I left it on. I wish that is how this one was. KEYS: I find these keys are stiffer than my Casio keys. I was worried about my 5yr old being able to use them, but she seems to do fine with them, so they must not be that stiff. OVERALL: great set & great price for a beginner. Read more

Review:I bought this for my 10-year-old granddaughter for Christmas. I had looked at several different keyboards. What I like about this is that it has the mic, stool, pedal, headphones. There is also an App that it recommends to learn the keyboard and you can place your Smart Phone or tablet right on the stand and it knows which keys you"re playing. If you put the headphones in, you can play or practice and no one around you can hear anything and the volume in the headphones is a very comfortable level. Considering everything I looked at I found this to be a great bargain considering everything that comes with it. Read more

Review:First of all please read all of my comments to understand why gave 1 star to this keyboard as my purpose could be completely different from your purpose of buying: Why I bought this keyboard: I used to play keyboard 20-25 years ago and decided to return my old hobby and was looking for a reasonable priced keyboard to restart. My mistake could be visiting a PMT shop the day before I placed the order because I have seen great keyboards there which were obviously 5 to 10 times priced compared to that keyboard. But I didn"t want to pay a lot of money to begin with so ordere this keyboard. I was also impressed with the idea of having a stool and table. What is looks like: When you open the box you say "wow", it lookd really big and posh. When you place it onto its table you realize that speakers hold a large space on the keyboard which is fine but also smell the cheap plastic material. I played with the buttons to try functionalities. Rhythms, voice and overall everything is satisfactory. But the LCD screen stopped working after a few mins. Maybe I touched a button that caused this but just couldn"t work it out. Tried to play some songs, but realized that this is not what I am looking for. I have been gathering with friends recently who play guitar and we played , sang together but the quality of that keyboard didn"t give me that feel that I can bring it for our next mini concert. It looks more like a large toy or really a beginner keyboard rather than what I have been looking for so returned the keyboard. Who is this for: This is for your kids who have some interest in music so definitely a good alternative to start with. The table is not so sturdy if an adult is playing as you would press the keys faster. But should be fine for a kid. Or if you are an adult who has never played keyboard before and what to make a start, why not ? Given the price tag, it should satisfy you. My only dilemma would be the alternative Yamaha keyboards which are sold in Xmas time in well known super markets . They come with a similar price tag, £80ish, but without table and stool however given that they are music brands , I suspect the quality might be higher. Delivery/return: Unfortunately my first order got lost in transit. Thanks to Amazon customer service, had a chat with them and they delivered it the next day. Return was also easy. I dropped it to a shop which has Hermes delivery service after receiving my QR code. You can print your label in the store so you don"t need to have a printer at home. If your expectations are in line with my above comments, you can go for it. But if you are an adult whose music love appeared after years and want to play some music with your friends, I think you need to spend some hundreds to find a suitable keyboard. Read more

Review:The media could not be loaded. Review:Bought for my daughter who has shown great piano playing skills on a phone app with limited keys. This blew her away, she was so very happy to receive this gift. Easy to set up, open the box, take it out, put the stand and stool/seat together (both very easy), fix the keyboard to the stand (so it doesn"t slip off), plug it in and start playing. Looks very nice lit up with the blue screen which shows you what instrument you are playing. Lots of combinations of instruments, backing, beats, noises, clapping, various other noises and sounds so you can really get creative and have lots of musical fun. Longer sound with use of the pedal. Headphones plug in nicely. One good thing is that the piano sound is a lovely piano sound, not like an electric piano, sounds like a nice real piano. The keys have a nice bounce to them. You can record ONE song/play of your music and play it back. We really do like it a lot. Read more

Purchasing an electric keyboard can be a very exciting experience. They are incredibly versatile instruments that are excellent for exploring your creativity, nailing your technique, and performing live.

However, we know that purchasing an instrument can also be a daunting experience. There is a whole range of things you need to consider, from the features you need to the style of the keys that would best suit your playing style.

Below, we’ve created a handy buyers’ guide. It comprises everything you need to understand and factors you should consider before purchasing an electric keyboard. To make this process as enjoyable and stress-free as possible, check it out below!

Electronic keyboards can have differently weighted keys. To help understand the different weighted keys, we’ve made a list of the most common and discussed their pros and cons.

Semi-weighted keyboards feel significantly different from the keys of an acoustic piano. When pressed, semi-weighted keys will go down with little resistance. They also rise back up a little slower than you would expect from an acoustic piano.

Some techniques are difficult to use on semi-weighted keyboards. For instance, techniques such as a glissando or staccato are tricky to play on such keyboards.

However, a lot of 61 key keyboards and beginner keyboards have semi-weighted keys. The weighted action isn’t always necessary if you’re just learning to play. Also, you might not want to emulate the experience of playing an acoustic piano.

Fully weighted keys are like semi-weighted keys. The difference? They have more resistance. Keyboards with semi-weighted keys closely resemble the feeling of playing an acoustic piano.

Fully weighted keyboards are best for players who still want to still develop playing endurance. However, they differ from acoustic pianos because each key weighs the same. On an acoustic piano, the higher keys will provide less resistance.

Fully weighted hammer action keyboards provide the most realistic playing experience. Manufacturers build them with hammer mechanisms installed along with the weights. This improves the feel and resistance of each key.

In particular, fully weighted keys with hammer action closely resemble the variation in resistance acoustic pianos provide. The higher the keys, the less resistance they provide.

Touch sensitivity is an important understanding before purchasing an electric keyboard. Some digital keyboards have it necessary to press down quite hard to produce a sound. This makes playing tricky if you’re a beginner.

If you’re new to playing the keyboard, you will want a particularly touch-sensitive keyboard. With such instruments, light touches will produce a sound. The harder you press, the louder the sound will be.

With some keyboards in the list above, you’ll notice that the description discusses how the touch sensitivity changes depending on your preferred playing style. So think of how you play the piano when considering touch sensitity.

With 61 keys, you can learn how to read notes, perform dynamics, and practice playing some songs. With all the additional features that electric keyboards boast, this is more than enough to keep budding pianists occupied and progressing.

However, if you are looking for an electric keyboard to take your piano playing to the next level, a 61-key keyboard may not be enough. If you want to emulate the experience of playing an acoustic piano, it will be more beneficial to purchase an 88-key keyboard with fully weighted hammer-action keys.

Most people assume that the size of the keys on a keyboard is universal. However, that isn’t the case. In fact, 61-key keyboards use two distinct categories based on the size of the keys.

Some keyboards will have full-sized keys, and others will have smaller keys. If you’re a keen pianist, we recommend purchasing a keyboard with full-sized keys. These will provide the most pleasurable playing experience.

However, if you’re purchasing a keyboard for a child, or you don’t plan on using the keyboard for more serious practice, a keyboard with smaller-sized keys will be just enough. These won’t feel as realistic as those with larger-sized keys, but they are still playable.

If you’re an experienced intermediate or advanced level musician, educational features won’t be necessary. However, if you’re a beginner, educational features on electric keyboards can be useful.

If you would like a keyboard that aids in your learning and helps you become a better pianist, opt for an instrument that has a few different educational features. These can range from things such as a ‘built-in step-up system’, access to online tutorials, and teacher modes.

Other features on electric keyboards can be inadvertently useful for learners. For instance, a keyboard that has a range of in-built metronomes, chord recognition settings, or in-built bass lines can be very helpful when learning aspects of playing, such as timing and fingering.

This might seem like quite an obvious thing to consider, however, people often overlook the sound quality of keyboards. Sound quality is one of the most important factors to consider. The sound quality can really make all the difference to your learning and playing experience.

For instance, Casio and Yamaha source their piano sounds from top-quality concert grand pianos. These brands also produce a range of different keyboards that will work for varying budgets.

Not all electric keyboards will have a USB port. If a PC connection is important to you, we recommend looking at the manufacturer’s specifications to ensure that there is a USB port.

However, if your preferred keyboard doesn’t have a USB connection, this isn’t necessarily the end of the world. If it instead has MIDI capability, you will connect to devices such as computers.

MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It is essentially a connectivity standard for transferring instrument data. Electric keyboards, computers, and synthesizers use it.

If a keyboard doesn’t have a USB, MIDI enables it to connect with other devices, such as computers. This can be an important feature for some musicians, particularly those who are writing their own music.

If you live in a shared house or share thin walls with your neighbors, you want a keyboard usable with headphones. This way, you can practice to your heart’s content without worrying if the neighbors will have a friendly chat with you.

However, not all electric keyboards come with a headphone jack. If this feature is important to you, read the manufacturer’s details before purchasing.

Some electric keyboards also come with a Bluetooth connection. You may not need a headphone jack if your preferred keyboard has Bluetooth and you own a good pair of Bluetooth headphones.

If you only plan to use your keyboard at home, portability won’t be a problem for you. However, if you plan on taking your keyboard on tour, to open-mic nights, or to your friend’s house to jam, your chosen keyboard needs to be movable.

If this is the case, we recommend looking for a particularly well-built, sturdy, and lightweight model. In fact, you can even look for keyboards designed with touring and portability in mind.

Unless otherwise stated, keyboards rarely come with bonuses. In these cases, you will need to source the accessories if you don’t already have them. Here’s a shortlist:

Before you purchase a keyboard, write a list of features that are important to you. This might be weighted keys or a headphone jack. This way, you can eliminate unnecessary options and have those that suit your needs perfectly.

Whilst a 61 key keyboard is definitely large enough for a beginner to learn the basics of the classical piano if you’re an intermediate or advanced player hoping to learn how to perform more complicated classical pieces, 61 keys might not be quite enough.
