The multifunction display, a compact information unit, is positioned directly in front of you on the dashboard for your convenience and safety. It lets you see important information at a glance, without taking your attention from the road.

Thanks to Active Info Display, you can enjoy the advantages of an instrument cluster with a high resolution colour display. With various information profiles, you can decide which specific data are displayed in the instrument cluster in addition to the usual gauges such as the rev counter, speedometer and odometer.

You can select this information profile quickly and easily using the optional multifunctional steering wheel: depending on your precise needs, you can access detailed Driving Data, for example, or show a visual display of your driver assistance systems. This means the display area can be even better used, because you can also show additional data within the dials.

In the Discover Navigation Infotainment system, you can decide whether you would like to see the navigation map in the Active Info Display, or have the classic view on the system display. With Discover Navigation Pro, both display options are available simultaneously.

With various information profiles, you can decide which data is displayed in the instrument cluster in addition to the usual gauges, which include the revolution counter, speedometer and odometer.

An upgrade of the Active Info Display V1 (above), you’ll have more options which can be altered through the infotainment system. For example, the entire infotainment screen can be used to display audio, telephone or navigation.

The virtual cockpit can be tailored to each individual driver who uses the vehicle, and can be adjusted by using buttons on the multifunction steering wheel. The system can be used to display a large map, and the zoom function can be enable without having to use Discover Navigation Premium. The cockpit has 16 different settings to choose from, but it can also be run in Auto mode, which shows the relevant driving information depending on the person driving.

Thin Film Transistor displays will be the next wave of in-vehicle infotainment progress. These new information displays will replace the gauges and screens you now view to get needed information. Brighter, crisper, and more visible from angles, the screens will enable easier viewing.

In a typical mainstream car in 2016 the view one sees is a large speedometer with an analog-like look, and possibly a tachometer or group of other needle-indicators showing fuel and temperature. Going forward, the new TFT screens will enable those same views, and they’ll show you much more.

TFT screens are the intersection of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and semiconductor manufacturing. Created on a glass or plastic substrate, the material is deposited onto the surface with high-tech machinery long used to produced semiconductor devices like computer chips. The classic deposit, etch, and repeat steps enable the manufacturers to produce resolutions and abilities not previously possible.

Since these displays are entirely digital, more like a laptop or smartphone screen than past displays, the information you see can change easily. The classic display you view between the spokes of the steering wheel will still be the default.

However, automakers will give you the option of seeing a large, clear map as an alternative. Or perhaps you prefer to minimize the speedo and instead have the audio options use the majority of the screen. The customization options will let you dial in the display to get the information you want.

Audi is taking the lead, and the new TT sports carhas used the screen since its introduction about a year ago. Audi pairs a new computer processor from Silicon Valley’s NVIDIA called the Tegra 30 chip, with a screen our research indicates is made by Tekswo, an LCD manufacturer in China.

Together they produce a fantastic display that incorporates all of the driver’s needed information into the gauge area. The secondary and tertiary screens we are used to seeing in the center of and on top of the dashboard are gone. Even the backup camera is viewed in this new central location.

Wherever you drive, count on the advanced TMC (Traffic Message Channel) system to steer you clear of unexpected traffic jams and adverse road conditions. We’ve got the widest coverage available — all ten TMC service countries in Europe — giving you timely and automatic alerts when traffic problems happen along your route. The display indicates both road section highlights and a comprehensive list for accidents and trouble spots.

This product features a cutting edge data connectivity port, that allows new generation vehicle data-bus interfaces to be connected. This enables control of your vehicle settings and display of parking sensor and air condi- tion settings on your Alpine screen. A turn-by-turn navigation arrow display in the instrument cluster is also possible, if the vehicle supports it.

In recent times smart car stereos with flat touch screens are quite common. These smart screens have made car music scenarios even better with their smart control and one-touch setup. Now, you can use your fingers to change a song or even a radio play station instead of turning multiple knobs.

But, with such advanced technology comes a few problems. One of the main problems you can face is the unresponsive touch screen of your car stereo. You may touch and swipe the screen multiple times, but nothing works. It can be frustrating as well.

One of the main issues with a touch screen car stereo is the unresponsive screen. Sometimes, when you touch the screen and swipe for commands, the screen does not respond. It remains fixed with the same screen, and nothing happens no matter how much you try.

The car stereo touch screen is connected to the car’s battery with wires. The wires are dainty and can get loose or damaged. With such damaged wires, the screen becomes unresponsive as the electricity is not properly supplied to the touch screen.

As already said, the touch screen is quite fragile and may get damaged sometimes. A cracked touch screen is one of the main reasons that lead to an unresponsive car stereo screen. Check out for visible damages. If the screen has cracks or visible damage, you probably need to repair it.

Sometimes, even minute scratches can lead to a faulty touch screen for your car stereo. It may happen if anything sharp is used to operate the touch. Hence, always try to refrain from using anything sharp on the screen.

Sometimes, water or liquid damage also makes the car stereo screen unresponsive. If you or someone inside the car accidentally spilled some water or a drink on the car screen and forgot to wipe the screen properly, the liquid may go inside and damage the touch screen.

The car stereo screen does not have any visible damage or faulty wires. In this case, probably the software is the issue behind the unresponsiveness. If you recently have updated the latest software on the smart touch screen, or even installed new software, the screen may take some time to adjust to the new software. Similarly, if the software is incompatible with the touch screen, it will become unresponsive.

One of the easiest ways to fix an unresponsive car stereo screen is to reboot the system. After rebooting, the car stereo starts afresh, and the screen problem is fixed. First, unplug the power cord from the car stereo and cut down the power supply. Now, wait for a few minutes. Then plug the power cord back into your car stereo to resume the stereo service. Now, turn the stereo on and check if the screen works properly. If not, try the next hack.

A dirty touch screen may not work due to the accumulated dirt and dust particles. So, cleaning the car stereo screen is always better to check if it works after the cleanup.

Take a soft microfiber cloth and spray a digital screen cleaner on the car stereo screen. Using the cloth, clean the screen gently and cover each possible spot. Take special care of the corners and gently clean those corners as well. Finish with a soft and dry microfiber cloth and wipe the screen clean.

If nothing works, it is better to go for a factory reset. It will turn your stereo system to its original factory condition, and you can start afresh as all the previous customizations and data will be deleted. It can also resolve the unresponsive screen issue sometimes. Here is how to do this-

You found that the car stereo has a damaged or cracked touch screen which does not work. If you get it replaced by a mechanic, you need to save a lot of money. The setup is not complicated; you can easily replace the cracked screen with a toolbox and the same guidance. Here’s how you can replace the cracked glass-

After you have removed it, start disassembling it. Carefully start removing the faceplate first. Next, go to the upper portion of the screen panel and detach all the wires connected to the faceplate. You can continue using the magnetic Phillips screwdriver to remove the dainty screws.

Now, move towards the screen panel’s main or central wires. The wires are usually located at the back of the screen. If you find the wires smaller and fragile, you can use needle-nose pliers to remove them. Store everything monthly and carefully. You can also note the wires’ designated places to mark their attached points for future use.

Now you have removed the faceplate and wires. It is time to disconnect the touch screen from the car stereo. You will find that the car stereo screen can be removed from the component from the bottom of the screen panel. Make sure to do this gently without damaging the touch screen anymore. You may even use the needle-nose pliers to disconnect the screen gently.

After you have disconnected the touch screen, remove it gently without damaging the LCD screen. If the LCD screen gets damaged, you must replace the whole stereo component. Hence, be extra careful here.

You have removed the broken touch screen. It is time to clean the original LCD display of the car stereo. Take a few drops of distilled water on a soft microfiber screen and gently wipe the LCD screen clean. Now, use a dry microfiber cloth and dry the LCD screen gently. Wait for a few minutes to get it completely dry.

Now, take the replacement touch screen and re-done the wires again. Carefully reattach all the wires in the right places. Be extra careful and attach each wire properly so that these do not get loose. Loose wires often lead to other problems as well.

Attach a screen protector to the touch screen to prevent unnecessary damage and dirt accumulation. These screen protectors are available in electronics stores or online stores.

Different issues may lead to an unresponsive car stereo touch screen. This article can help you to identify the cause and take the necessary steps to fix the issue. If you’re not sure, you can always visit your nearest car servicing or automobile shop to get the thing done.

Volkswagen‘s new Touareg SUV is so clever it can see in the dark. Night Vision is part of a new suite of technologies on the new generation model which also includes a world debut by the Innovation Cockpit which will gradually be rolled out through the automaker’s other model ranges.

This, as already mentioned, includes the Innovation Cockpit, available as an option. A 12-inch digital instrument display merges with the 15-inch TFT touchscreen of the Discover Premium infotainment to form a new digital operating, information, communication and entertainment unit in much the same way Daimler’s Mercedes mixes and matches screens from A- to S-class.

It takes cues from tablet technology and has brought together engineers from Europe, China and the US to develop one of the most advanced infotainment systems in the industry. It can be controlled by pushing icons, swiping the screen or actual buttons on the steering wheel.

Intuitively and frequently used switches such as volume control, have been intentionally implemented as analogue controls. To the side of the driver, the display of VW’s Discover Premium system visually merges with the Digital Cockpit, the Tourareg’s 12-inch, high resolution instrument cluster. The two displays form a digital landscape in what VW calls a “one screen design”.

It is equipped with a proximity sensor system and is operated from the touch screen by gesture or voice control. Features include a freely usable 10GB memory, two SD card slots, an aux-in socket, four USB ports and a Bluetooth phone interface.

Kogler said: “In navigation mode, extended 3D city models can be called up and displayed, simplifying orientation in unfamiliar surroundings. There are also conventional and satellite maps. With Nav-Gen4 routing, an alternative route can be computed online on a server taking predictive models into account including route profiles, topography and traffic situations.”

Kogler said: “The home screen is multifunctional and can be personalised with user definable favourite buttons, selectable clock designs and a 3D model representation of the vehicle and seats.”

Menu navigation is set up to be intuitive. For instance the user can press the home icon – a virtual button on the lower display border that is familiar from smart phones.

It’s a lot to take in, especially on the a fairly short launch test drive, but once you know which functions are important to you they are easily accessible by touching or swiping the screen. Navigation maps can be viewed in front of the steering column or in the centre of the dashboard while immediate instructions are also shown on the head up display. It is possible to choose what information the HUD displays – such as vehicle speed, speed limits and lane departure warning while display height is adjustable.

The latest generation Volkswagen’s Tourareg flagship SUV goes on sale early in June with an expected starting price of around EUR49,000 although, when fully loaded with a impressive suite of driver assistance, safety and connectivity technologies, it will likely be considerably more.
