Phrozen 3D printers aim at making professional 3D printing accessible to anyone breaking down traditional barriers. Born in Taiwan from the idea of three engineers, the company has been manufacturing user-friendly devices capable of print high-resolution objects at a fast speed using a variety of generic resins.
With a keen eye on innovative DLP/LCD technologies, Phrozen has developed a self-made ParaLED optical engine, which grants improved printing quality, sharpness, and speed.
The Taiwanese company currently sells three different MSLA printing machines: the Phrozen Shuffle, the Shuffle XL and the Shuffle 4K. It has also been developing a further 3D printer, the Phrozen Make, a crowdfunded, desktop LCD 3D printer that will be shipped to backers later this year.
The Shuffle printers share similar specs and are all powered by the innovative, proprietary ParaLED optical technology. The system is based on a special LED array matrix, that emits its light as parallel as possible to deliver higher resolution and neater prints.
The Shuffle series has a sturdy, fully enclosed structure and features a dual Z-axis linear rail with a ball screw drive, which ensures rigidity, high accuracy, and durability. The MSLA technology, based on the sintering of an entire layer at a time, allows producing butches of parts in a faster way saving time and costs.
The main differences between the Shuffle and Shuffle XL are the build volume, the XY resolution, and the 2K LCD panel size. The Shuffle has a build volume of 120 x 68 x 200 mm, an XY resolution of 47um, and a 5.5 inch LCD panel. It differs from the Shuffle 4K only in the LCD panel resolution, hence the name. The XL version has a bigger printing area of 190 x 120 x 200mm, a 75 um XY-resolution, and an 8.9-inch screen.
All Phrozen 3D printers come with an open-material system which makes them compatible with all 3rd party resins, giving you wider design possibilities.
On the official website, you can find several manuals, troubleshooting videos, and technical documents. Phrozen also boasts an active Facebook group where users can share their printing experiences and feedback useful to let the company improve its production.
LCD / DLP displays for 3D resin printers are considered as consumables, so they are not covered by warranty. The useful life time of these consumables depends mainly on its own use, so it is not possible to set a specific replacement date. The parameters that can affect its useful life time are for example; hours of use, exposure times, humidity and environmental temperature, printer maintenance and fans cleaning, etc.
In a LCD printer, light intensity, wavelength, and optical path has a direct impact on printing quality and efficiency. Phrozen’s ParaLEDT.M Optical Engine uses a LED array matrix to improve quality and efficiency of prints. In addition, the LED emission is parallel to the LCD allowing light to pass through more efficiently which results in improved printing speed and quality.
Most 3D Printers out in the market have a Z-axis design based on a simple optical axis and rail shaft. These will cause severe wobbling during the print process, especially for larger & taller models. The Phrozen Shuffle uses a Twin Linear Rail, Ball Screw, and Ball Bearing with Aluminum-CNC part for Z-axis. That can assure linearity and minimize impact of loaded force during the printing process.
Ordered one of these LCD screens for my Phrozen Shuffle XL, despite the only other review stating that they received their screen with a crack. It came next day, super fast. No cracked screen either, which would have been great... if it worked.I removed my old cracked screen, replaced it per the manufacturer"s instructions and the screen would not work. (BTW: No instructions, manual or paperwork was included with this screen). I tested the calibration screen (as seen in the photos) and the LCD would not respond. So, I removed the new screen and reinstalled my old cracked screen. I did this to ensure that I was not doing anything wrong. The screen worked with the calibration grid, white and black. So I filed for a exchange here on Amazon, thinking that I received a bunk screen. Which happens and I didn"t want to leave a review just quite yet. I received the replacement screen the next day, which was also really great, but this screen is doing the same thing.I got online and read some blogs to see if anyone else had this problem. One blogger posted that their green light was not turning on and was the cause of his failure. Thats the only information I could find. I searched for Phrozen Shuffle XL LCD replacement, calibration and everything under the sun I could think of. No results. I submitted a message to the seller, seeing what the deal is.I will update my review when i hear something back. In the meantime I ordered an OEM screen directly from Phrozen. However, That will take 7-10 days to get here from Japan. If I can get this to work, I"ll have a spare, but it"s not looking too promising.UPDATE: 6 months later, I"m still messing around with this thing. I received a new screen directly from Phrozen which took 7-8 days. Their screen was bad too. I ended up ordering a HDMI, bridge board card (between the HDMI board and LCD screen), and new ribbon cables. Now my printer functional again. Although my first two prints did not print because there is a issue with the LCD functioning again. I have a feeling that when these screens break, the boards also fail as well. As I mentioned above in my first review, a blogger said that his light was not turning on. Mine was, as was still bad. I would gladly pay $200 for the boards, cables and LCDs as one unit if it would prevent this nightmare from happening again. Also it would be nice if they had some kind of trouble shoot literature. This is strictly a DIY and "figure it out on your own" if you attempt this. Phozen was little help as well. Ever time I contacted them, they wanted me to take photos. As they are in Japan, it always took 18-24 hours+ to get back to me.*My background: I worked in IT for 15 years and have built many computers (Macs and PCs) over the years. I now own a European car custom / repair shop and I have been a mechanic for the last 12 years. So I know how to work on very difficult things. Such as fabricating and build things from scratch. Troubleshooting is my strong suit. So if you do not have these technical abilities, you may have issues if something goes wrong.
