Honda defines CR-V as ‘Compact Recreational Vehicle’ while others regard it as a ‘Comfortable Runabout Vehicle’. While the fifth and latest generation model won’t set pulses racing, it can be relied on as a practical, family-friendly car. Continuing just-auto/AIC’s review of interior design and technology trends, we take a closer look inside this worldwide best seller.

On the connectivity front, a seven-inch touchscreen allows you to pinch, swipe and tap through the Honda Connect in-car audio and information system. This includes DAB and internet radio (with a welcome dial to control the volume rather than a touch-slider), phone interface and Bluetooth connectivity, rearview parking camera with dynamic guidelines.

Forward visibility is good and unrestricted thanks in part to the slightly narrower A-pillars compared to the previous model. While the rearward view is a little hampered, rear parking sensors and a rearview camera make parking feel a breeze.

The instrumentation cluster incorporates a 7-inch TFT-LCD Driver Information Interface (DII) central display, flanked by battery charge status and fuel-level gauges.

Cabin space is ample for all occupants, thanks to a wider stance and longer wheelbase compared to the previous model. The driver and front passenger benefit from ever-so-slightly (5mm) more headroom and 16mm more hip room compared to the last version, while thinner and flatter proportions for the fuel tank ahead of the rear wheels contributes to an extra 50mm of legroom for second-row passengers.

Further back, the boot space provides a capacity of 497 litres with the 60/40 back seats in the upright position. With the rear seats folded flat (and without the optional third-row seating), the load increases to 1,638 litres.

The CR-V comes equipped with a number of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) technologies as part of its ‘Honda Sensing’ suite, including collision mitigation warning, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed assistance, blind spot information, cross-traffic monitor and a multi-angle rearview camera.

On balance, while the perceived quality of the cabin is lacking in some respects, the overall interior design is easy on the eye. Since the first generation appeared in the mid-1990s, Honda has stuck to its winning crossover-SUV formula with each version. Everything in the latest model feels reassuringly solid. Just as it should for a price tag of £39,600. Its rivals include the likes of the Kia Sorento, VW Tiguan and Peugeot 5008.

Honda"s worst-kept secret, the new CR-V, made an unofficial debut back in February when fully revealing patent images of the exterior showed the SUV"s evolutionary styling. These matched what we had seen in spy shots on a couple of occasions last year when camouflaged prototypes were caught testing. The sixth-gen model is now making the headlines, and once again, we"re taking a closer look ahead of its official premiere.

We also have some specs to go along with these images. The 2023 CR-V from the local Dongfeng Honda joint venture stretches at 4,703 millimeters (185.1 inches) long, 1,866 mm (73.4 in) wide, and 1,690 mm (66.5 in) tall. While it may seem that you’re looking at the same car, there are two different vehicles depicted in the adjacent photo gallery. The one featuring all-wheel drive is a five-seater model while the one without the AWD badge on the tailgate accommodates up to seven people.

The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by the Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. The early models were built using the same platform as the Civic.

Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.

As of 2022ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda"s best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

The first generation CR-V or RD1 was Honda"s first in-house designed sport utility vehicle by Hiroyuki Kawase. When the CR-V was introduced in Japan in October 1995 it was sold only at Honda Verno and Honda Primo dealershipsregulations regarding exterior dimensions (maximum width of 1,700 mm (66.9 in), therefore incurred a more expensive annual road tax obligation. For the North American market, it was displayed at the 1996 Chicago Auto Show and went on sale in February 1997.

Upon introduction, the model had only one trim level, which would later be known as the LX model trim; it was powered by the 2.0-liter straight-four B20B producing 126 hp (94 kW) at 5400rpm and 133 lb⋅ft (180 N⋅m) of torque at 4800rpm. Outer dimensions for this engine would be identical to the Integra"s 1.8L engine, but internally the engine had a larger 84 mm (3.3 in) bore vs 81 mm (3.2 in) for the Integra, to add the extra displacement needed to produce more torque. The engine used a one-piece cylinder sleeve construction unique from any other B-series engine. The chassis was a unibody design with fully independent suspension. The front suspension was double-wishbone, while the rear used a trailing arm-based multilink system. Inside, the rear seats were able to fold down, and a picnic table was stowed in the rear floor area. All models featured plastic cladding covering the front bumper, rear bumper, and fender wells. In most countries, CR-Vs had a chrome grille; however, in the United States, the grille was made out of the same black plastic as the bumpers. The EX included anti-lock brakes and 15-inch alloy wheels over the LX trim. Drivetrain options were front-wheel drive or Honda"s Real Time AWD.

Indonesian market CR-V was released in 1999 as a locally assembled model. Honda customized the model for sale to include a face-to-face third-row seating, making it a seven-seater vehicle to take advantage of the tax regulations in the country. The rear foglamp was also re-configured as a fourth and fifth brake light.

In 1999, for the 2000 model year, the European, Australian and Asian CR-V models featured more drastic changes. Exterior alterations included a new front bumper, smoothed off rear bumper, and a smaller plastic radio antenna on the rear of the roof. "Nighthawk Black" was added to the list of paint choices, while "Passion Orange" disappeared. New dark blue pearl and red pearl shades replaced the former solid red and metallic blue hues. European models received an enlarged Honda emblem on the front grille, and a new metallic yellow paint in certain markets.

Second generation CR-Vs in countries outside of North America were again offered in both "low specification" and "high specification" variants, with the latter featuring body-colored bumpers and fittings. It also now did not require the glass hatch to be opened before the swinging door. Changes between model years 2002, 2003, and 2004 were minor, involving an enlargement of the center compartment bin and the addition of a front passenger door power lock in the latter two years respectively. The Honda FR-V was based upon the second generation CR-V.

In China, a clone from Shuanghuan Auto, called the Laibao S-RV, became a center of a design rights controversy, because the latter appeared to be a blatant copy of Honda"s design.

In 2004, for the 2005 model year, the CR-V received a mid-cycle refresh. New 16-inch wheels replaced the previous 15-inch versions. Changes included new taillights and headlights with clear indicators and two separate H1 bulbs for low beams and high beams, the previous setup used H4 single bulb for both low and high beams. The taillights now used clear lenses instead of amber for the turning indicators. The grille was also changed; it had two horizontal bars instead of one. The front bumper design was slightly changed, it now has round fog lights compared to the previous trapezium fog lights and in addition to the lower grill there are two horizontal bars instead of one. The rear bumper reflectors were longer and narrower.

Following the tradition of adding a trim level above the EX during the refresh like the first generation CR-V, Honda added the SE trim level for the 2005 CR-V. The CR-V SE featured painted bumpers, body side molding, and hard, body-colored spare tire cover. Honda introduced leather seats for the first time to the CR-V with this trim, as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated side mirrors, and front seats.

In the Philippines, the second-generation CR-V was released in 2002. The vehicle was reconfigured to seat 10 people, with 3 in front, 4 in the second row, and 3 in the third row to take advantage of the tax regulations in the country at the time which allows a 10-seater vehicle to be classified as a "mass transport van", therefore exempt from excise tax.Asian utility vehicles (AUV), while 5-seater and 8-seater variants are also available. It was produced locally at the factory in Santa Rosa, Laguna with 63 percent of local content. In its 4-year production run, Honda sold 20,886 units of the second-generation CR-V.

The third generation CR-V is powered by Honda"s standard K-series 2.4L inline-four engine. In North American markets, this engine"s power is rated at 166 hp (124 kW) at 5,800rpm and 161 lb⋅ft (218 N⋅m) at 4,200rpm.L i-CTDI diesel engine was offered in the European and Asian markets. The European market CR-V had the R20A 2.0L gasoline engine, based on the Honda R-series i-VTEC SOHC engine found in the Honda Civic, as opposed to the previous CR-V offering the K20A.

The fifth generation CR-V was unveiled on 13 October 2016 in Detroit. Sales began in the U.S. on 21 December 2016 as a 2017 model year. It uses the same Honda compact global platform introduced on the tenth generation Civic. Honda began producing the CR-V at East Liberty, Ohio (ELP) in November 2016Greensburg, Indiana (HMIN) during February 2017.

In October 2019, Guangqi Honda in China began marketed the model with a different styling as the Honda Breeze (Chinese: 皓影; pinyin: Hàoyǐng) which was sold alongside the international facelift version CR-V produced by Dongfeng Honda.

Honda unveiled a refreshed CR-V in September 2019 for the 2020 model year, initially for the North American market. For the first time in North America, the refreshed model introduced a hybrid powertrain as an option. Additionally, the CR-V"s suite of advanced safety features are standard on every trim level, meaning even the most affordable CR-V provides adaptive cruise control and the latest crash prevention technology.

The sixth-generation CR-V is produced and sold in China by Dongfeng Honda. A variant with a different front and rear fascias is produced and sold by Guangqi Honda as the second-generation Honda Breeze, which was launched on 13 December 2022.

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid made its world debut on July 12, 2022, and is on sale in the U.S. This is the sixth generation of one America’s best-selling SUVs, or the second generation if we talk about the CR-V Hybrid specifically.

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid features a more masculine exterior. A taller radiator grille with chunky hexagonal mesh inserts, wider lower air intake, sportier bumper, higher and straighter hood, and slimmer headlamps lend the redesigned model a striking appearance at the front.

Honda will sell the 2023 CR-V in EX and EX-L grades and the 2023 CR-V Hybrid in more premium Sport and Sport Touring grades. The Sport and Sport Touring grades, and thus the 2023 CR-V Hybrid, feature an even bolder styling. They have more aggressive front and rear fascias and grille mesh, all highlighted with a gloss black accent. They flaunt uniquely designed bumpers with exclusive rectangular exhaust finishers (black on Sport and platinum on Sport Touring). The rear spoiler’s also sportier, with the underside painted in matte black (Sport)/gloss black (Sport Touring). The Sport grade features exclusive 18-inch ‘Berlina Black’ 10-spoke alloy wheels, while the Sport Touring grade provides an upgrade to 19-inch black split 5-spoke alloys.

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid has a simple interior that aligns with the brand’s new philosophy – “Simplicity and something.” Honda has used a slimmer dashboard and cleaned up the center console, relocating the infotainment system screen and reducing the number of physical controls. The company has mounted the touchscreen panel atop the dashboard, making it more easily accessible to the driver, while keeping the console clean.

The center console is new but it houses a familiar gearshift lever instead of a more modern button- or dial-type gear selector. This tells us that Honda is committed to making the CR-V an easy-to-operate model, while also saving on production costs with traditional mechanical components.

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid features new front Body Stabilizing Seats and has a more sedan-like steering wheel angle for improved comfort. There’s a 9-liter center console bin between the front seats, the largest in its class. The all-new hybrid SUV offers 0.6 in. more legroom in the rear. Another improvement in the back is more, eight angles of recline for the seats. However, as in the fifth generation, the U.S. hasn’t got a seven-seat option.

There’s 36.3 cu. ft. of cargo room behind the rear seats (2022 model: 33.2 cu. ft.). As for the total cargo space with the rear seatbacks folded flat, Honda has mentioned a 76.5 cu. ft. figure for the 2023 CR-V but not clarified whether the same applies to the 2023 CR-V Hybrid. For reference, the gas-powered 2022 CR-V offers 75.8 cu. ft. of cargo volume but the 2022 CR-V Hybrid offers 68.7 cu. ft. of cargo volume.

The 9-inch HD color touchscreen is the biggest size Honda has offered in its models to date. This infotainment system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The smaller, 7-inch low-res touchscreen infotainment system of the Sport grade has wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

We were expecting at least the top-end configurations to feature a fully digital instrument cluster with a 10.2-inch LCD like in the Civic, but strangely, Honda has avoided that. Could it be due to a parts shortage? Possibly. Regardless, expect the company to release that feature later during the lifecycle.

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid has a stronger structure and a variety of features for enhanced safety. It has a new upper A-pillar structure, side frame, and lower firewall structure. Stiffer structures in the roof, side sill, and B-pillar, doors, and the rear wheel arch and C-pillar have resulted in improved side impact protection. New front airbags and standard knee and rear-passenger side impact airbags also provide more passive safety in the 2023 CR-V Hybrid.

As for active safety, the 2023 CR-V Hybrid’s Honda Sensing integrates a new wide-angle camera with a 90-degree field of view and millimeter-wave radar with a 120-degree field of view. This means that it’s better at preventing collisions, as it has improved ability to recognize attributes of objects. Another advantage of the wide angle is that it enables expanded control range for the vehicle at intersections.

Honda says that it has revised the chassis of the CR-V Hybrid and strengthened its structure. Thanks to increased track width, the SUV’s stability has improved. The body’s torsional rigidity is up 15%, leading to enhanced ride and handling and overall refinement.

Honda has mounted the MacPherson strut front suspension and variable-ratio steering to a new subframe that is stiffer and repositions the steering rack for better feel and accuracy. The rear subframe is also stiffer now, plus the company has retuned the multilink rear suspension, giving it a 15% higher spring rate for the upper spring mount. These two changes have further improved handling.

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid packs an all-new fourth-generation two-motor hybrid-electric powertrain instead of the 2023 Honda CR-V’s 190-hp 1.5L turbocharged gas engine. Unlike the 2022 model’s 2.0-liter gasoline engine, the 2023 model’s 2.0-liter gasoline engine features direct fuel injection.

Another change in the latest model’s electrified powertrain is that the electric motors are mounted side-by-side, and this layout allows for the use of a larger propulsion motor with higher torque output. Honda has leveraged the new configuration to provide an increased traction-motor peak torque of 247 lb.-ft. (+15 lb.-ft.). The combined system power is 204 hp, which is an improvement of 3 hp. The top speed of the 2023 CR-V Hybrid is 115 mph, and that marks a significant bump from the 2022 model, which peaks at 86 mph.

Honda didn’t recommend towing with the 2022 CR-V Hybrid and naturally didn’t mention a towing capacity for the same. The 2023 CR-V Hybrid does have useful towing capability, and it can haul a trailer weighing up to 1,000 lbs. The all-new hybrid SUV delivers an EPA-est. fuel economy of up to 43 mpg in the city, up to 36 mpg on the highway, and up to 40 MPG combined.

American journalists have driven the 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid and shared their reviews. According to Kelly Blue Book’s Mike Danger (via YouTube), its electrified engine offers adequate power but produces a little droning noise when going uphill. The vehicle’s regenerative braking system doesn’t bring it to a complete stop. Thankfully, unlike in many other hybrids, the friction brakes are not inconsistent; they operate nice and smooth. The hybrid compact SUV sticks to the road quite well and feels planted to drive.

Honda started manufacturing the 2023 CR-V Hybrid at its plant in Alliston (Ontario), Canada, on October 25, 2022. On February 2, 2023, the company started manufacturing the new hybrid SUV at the East Liberty plant in Ohio, USA. It also revealed that the production of this model at the Greensburg plant in Indiana, USA, is already underway.

The 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid has been at U.S. dealerships for a few weeks now. We spotted it online at several dealers, including Marin Honda in San Rafael (CA), Honda of Mentor in Ohio, and Germain Honda of Ann Arbor in Michigan. Honda has increased the prices of the 2023 CR-V Hybrid by USD 500 across the range and bumped up its standard destination charge by USD 50 to USD 1,295.

According to a report CarsDirect published on February 9, 2023, Honda plans to start offering the 2023 CR-V in a cheaper ‘LX’ grade priced at USD 29,705. Since the 2023 CR-V LX is lower than the 2023 CR-V EX (USD 31,610), it, too, could be powered by the non-electrified gas engine, not the two-motor hybrid powertrain. In that case, the hybrid variant’s starting price should remain USD 32,950.

Honda hasn’t given up on hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles. The company is working on a Honda CR-V Fuel Cell version, which it plans to manufacture at the Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Marysville, Ohio, starting in 2024. The hydrogen-powered CR-V, unlike the Clarity Fuel Cell, will be a plug-in hybrid. It will have a battery pack that stores energy and allows driving as a battery-electric vehicle.

Honda plans to use a new-generation fuel cell system co-developed with General Motors in the CR-V Fuel Cell. Compared to the 2019 Clarity Fuel Cell, the next-generation fuel cell system should offer more than double the durability and reduce the cost to one-third. Honda and GM have taken various measures for cost reduction, increased durability, and improved low-temperature resistance, including the adoption of innovative materials for electrodes, the application of corrosion-resistant materials, and enhanced controls. Production of this fuel cell system will take place at the Honda-GM joint venture facility in Michigan, USA.

As for packaging based on the PHEV variant of Honda CR-V, hydrogen fuel tanks will be installed and the fuel cell system and the drive unit will be installed as one, which will enable this new FCV model to inherit the outstanding dynamic performance from the base model and realize excellent handling that provokes a sense of unity with the vehicle, as well as clear and sharp ride comfort.

Tetsuya Hasebe, General Manager of Hydrogen Business Development Division, Business Development Supervisory Unit, Business Development Operations, Honda

In an internal interview, Tetsuya Hasebe, General Manager of the Hydrogen Business Development Division, Business Development Supervisory Unit, Business Development Operations, Honda, revealed that the hydrogen fuel cell variant would be a five-seater.

It’s evident from the type of powertrain that the Honda CR-V Fuel Cell will be a special model. That fact is further reinforced by its planned production location, which is Acura NSX’s exclusive global home. Honda planned PMC from the outset for manufacturing specialty, hand-built vehicles. To us, there’s no doubt the Honda CR-V Fuel Cell will be a low-volume specialty vehicle, available only in select ZEV states and available only for lease.

The Honda CR-V’s sales in the U.S. declined 34.1% year-over-year in 2022 to 238,155 units (2021: 361,271 units). Honda preparing for the transition of the CR-V to its sixth generation and the supply chain issues in the auto industry could be the reasons behind the significant drop in sales. The Toyota RAV4 was way ahead, having totaled 399,941 units, just 1.9% lesser than in 2021 (407,739 units).

Honda expects about 50% of the CR-V sales to come from the CR-V Hybrid in the sixth generation. It seems to have reached that goal already. In January 2023, the company sold 20,031 units of the CR-V in the U.S. 47.68% of these 20,031 units, 9,551 units to be specific, were of the CR-V Hybrid. That marked a new monthly sales record for the CR-V Hybrid.

The CR-V, particularly the Hybrid, has received significant improvements for the new model year, including a new touchscreen infotainment system, power increase and towing capability. With these upgrades, America’s love for the CR-V is sure to grow even stronger. Prices for the hybrid version hasn’t changed much, ensuring the electrified compact SUV remains affordable to the masses. With an impressive package, Honda will also aspire to surpass the Toyota RAV4 and have the best-selling SUV in the country. Only time will tell if this goal is achievable!

The set of images that have been shared by the Chinese government faction look highly similar to the sketches revealed in the previously discovered patent filings, suggesting that this model we see here in two-row and three-row variations primed for Chinese roads will look similar, if not identical, when it arrives in North America.

From the few available angles, we see an enlarged grille flanked by long and narrow LEDs, a long hood, and some fresh lines running the length to a rear end that’s also got a new vibe. The outgoing model’s L-shaped taillights return, albeit with a slightly different shape, and the licence plate holder has migrated upwards slightly. Dual tailpipes are also visible in the Turbo variant pictured.

The best Honda CR-V engine oil will depend on which engine your car is fitted with. From 2007, Honda used a 2.4-litre four-cylinder and, even though the model was facelifted in 2012, the engine stayed the same. In that case, the oil you need is a quality (from a recognised brand) 5W40 either synthetic or semi-synthetic. From 2012 to 2017, the CR-V was also available with a two-litre petrol engine option, and that unit requires a 0W20 as the first choice but a 5W30 is also allowable for engines that size.

If your car is the later model, things get a bit more complicated as there were new engine options including a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel which needs a diesel-specific 0W30 synthetic oil. If you have the later 1.6-litre turbo-diesel replacement which arrived here from late 2015, the same 0W30 oil is appropriate, as is a 5W30 synthetic. These `light’ (low viscosity) oils are typical for high-tech engines such as the Honda’s with its variable valve timing.

Honda made continual changes to the CR-V range over the years, including some model and specification revisions for the 2016 model year, but none of these affected the range of engines (or Honda CR-V oil type) we’ve just discussed. Late model CR-Vs with a petrol engine require five litres (or slightly less) of oil, while the turbo-diesel models need 4.7 litres.

Just as there’s a correct Honda CRV oil, the correct Honda CR-V oil filter should also be fitted at the same time to avoid putting clean oil through an old, dirty filter. For the 2.4 petrol, the correct filter is a Ryco (or equivalent) Z411, as is the filter for the two-litre petrol. The 2.2-litre diesel requires an R2767P filter while the 1.6 diesel uses a Z690.

There are no mysterious trade secrets about how to change oil on a Honda CR-V, but you do need to know the basics. Changing oil and oil filter at home is a great DIY project and a good way to save some money and gain some satisfaction. The best advice is to obtain a workshop manual specific to your car and take it step by step. The manual will also include all the information and specifications you need to tackle other DIY service and maintenance jobs including checking power steering and transmission fluid. The manual will also give you information on how often to change the oil as well as the check and service intervals for the car’s other systems. That way, you won’t be relying on a warning light on the dashboard to tell you that action is needed.

GAC-Honda has published the first official photos of the all-new second-generation Breeze, serving as an alternative to the Dongfeng-Honda CR-V in China. Like its predecessor, the SUV is offered in both five-seater and seven-seater layouts and is heavily based on the new Honda CR-V, featuring distinct styling on both ends.

The ties between the Honda Breeze and the Honda CR-V twins are evident from the greenhouse and the identical profile. However, the Breeze adopts a different face with a much smaller grille, a larger bumper intake, and model-specific LED headlights. The plastic cladding around the bodywork has been replaced by body-colored panels giving it a more premium look. Finally, at the back, it gets a restyled tailgate with horizontally-mounted LED taillights connected to aerodynamic extensions of the rear spoiler.

The redesigned front and rear bumpers result in a length of 4,716 mm (185.7 inches) for the Honda Breeze, 22 mm (0.9 inches) longer than the CR-V. The other dimensions are identical, including the 2,700 mm (106.3 inches) wheelbase. Compared to the first-gen Breeze, the new model is longer by 80 mm (3.1 inches), with the wheelbase being stretched by 40 mm (1.6 inches) which translates to a more spacious cabin.

Predictably, the interior of the Breeze is carried over from the CR-V, including the full-width climate vents, the digital instrument cluster, and the free-standing infotainment display. However, it is differentiated in terms of upholstery and trim pieces. Equipment includes the latest Honda 360 Sensing suite with plenty of ADAS. As with the Chinese-spec Honda CR-V, a three-row seven-seater layout is also available in the Breeze.

The Honda Breeze will debut in ICE-powered form with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine producing 190 hp (142 kW / 193 PS) and 243 Nm (179 lb-ft) of torque, just like in the CR-V sibling. Power is transmitted to either the front or to all four wheels (AWD) exclusively through a CVT gearbox.

We expect GAC-Honda to expand the Breeze lineup with the addition of an electrified variant, benefiting from the hybrid e:HEV powertrain already offered in the CR-V. There are also rumors about a plug-in hybrid model that could follow in 2023. The first generation of the Honda Breeze came in petrol, self-charging hybrid, and plug-in hybrid forms.

The new Honda Breeze will go on sale in China before the end of the year. Pricing has yet to be announced but we expect it to be slightly more expensive than the CR-V which starts from ¥185,900 ($26,646).

Each day in the United States more than 1,000 people are injured in crashes reported to have involved a distracted driver. Working with our award-winning EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, the DriverFocus system is like having an attentive co-pilot along for the ride, available to give a helpful alert if a driver becomes distracted or drowsy. For added convenience, DriverFocus can also recognize up to five different drivers and remember their preferences, including seat position, climate settings, and outside mirror position.

The 2023 Outback gives you up to 109 cubic feet of roomy passenger comfort in both the front and rear seats. It"s a five-seater SUV with more passenger space than the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, or Jeep Grand Cherokee. Even full of passengers, you still get 32.6 cubic feet of cargo space. The available cargo area release levers make it even easier to fold the rear seats down, giving you up to 75.6 cubic feet of volume to haul more gear. Loading all that cargo is even easier with the available Hands-Free Power Rear Gate, which allows automatic opening even when your arms are full and lets you close and lock the entire vehicle with a single touch of the gate button.

A new Honda CR-V is on its way later this year, and we already have a decent idea of what the new compact SUV might look like thanks to patent renderings that leaked online back in February. Now, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which handles new vehicle regulations and certification, has released real images of what looks to be the new 2023 Honda CR-V, showing off a fresh new design that mirrors what we saw in the previous leak and in an earlier artist"s rendering we put together. Is this the CR-V we"ll also get stateside?

The images leave a lot to be desired—there"s not a lot of points for style here—but they do appear to show the key updates coming to the next-gen Honda CR-V, at least for the Chinese market. There"s an overall redesign that looks to us like a larger take on the HR-V"s recently debuted body styling, with redesigned front and rear bumpers, new taillights, and seemingly two different rear-view mirror options, one with "lanewatch" technology for blind-spot monitoring.

The translated image captions also appear to describe a panoramic camera and front parking sensors, which are shown in the images. There"s also two different wheel designs pictured which don"t appear to match the wheels currently available on the CR-V on Honda"s U.S. website.

The Chinese government"s website unfortunately did not upload any images of the interior, but we can make some educated guesses for what should come on the new U.S. CR-V when it debuts this year. As we"ve outlined before, it"s likely the U.S. CR-V receives an upgrade to its interior on par with the recent Honda Civic update, including a larger infotainment screen mounted on the dashboard. As seen above, the new CR-V is expected to grow slightly larger to accommodate third-row seating, which would better position it against competitors like the Kia Sorento and VW Tiguan.

As for power, expect the U.S. CR-V to carry over from the current offerings, likely with tweaked updates. That would include the current 1.5-liter turbo I-4 base engine and a 2.0-liter I-4 for the hybrid model, and it"s possible we finally get a plug-in hybrid variant with this generation, maybe later down the road, as well. All models will likely be paired with a CVT. New additions, like third-row seating and a plug-in hybrid option, would better position the CR-V, currently the second best-selling compact crossover in the U.S., against the Toyota Rav4 currently holding the top spot.

Description18 honda crv, 40k miles now. All of my warning lights just came on at once last week. I took my car to the dealer, they charged 7 for inspection and said I needed new fuel injectors with 00 estimate.

DescriptionI am so disppointed and frustrated. Exactly one year ago my 2018 crv had power issues. Loss power, excessive and unsafe deceleration when driving on state highway 20. Every warning light and driver assist notification light up on the dash. My car was jerking and I had to pull to the side of the road. Thankfully not to far from home and able to drive to the house but could not get over 20mph. Took to the dealer, fuel pump replaced at my cost. Here we are one yeat later and all dash board lights on again in similar fashion. Car is currently at dealer ship with noted need for fuel injectors. I find it peculiar and upsetting as having done research 2022 and now again 2023: there have been issues with fuel pump and fuel injectors reported on nhtsa, forums, to honda and articles about the recurrent issues with the 2018 crv and honda does not want to be responsible. There were some recalls of the 2018 crv but my vin# did not identify as one. The 2018 crv has recurrent issues in this department. My car was part of the s/b 18-114 campaign to "fix" and issue reguarding the oil/fuel mixture and here my car is having issues that I feel are a result.

DescriptionI was driving around 50 mph there was no car in front of me then all of a sudden the car braked very hard. My son got scared so did I. I"m glad there was no one behind me cause if it did they would have hit me. I did not put my foot on the brakes, it did it automatically. Like I said I was driving regular at 50 mph. There should be a recall on this issue and see if the emergency braking sensor can be deactivated. I"m scared driving my honda cr-v cause of that incident.

DescriptionOn multiple occasions, I have turned off my car and exited my car. The car would then turn back on by itself. Initially the dash would light up and an error message would appear saying key not found. I thought it was my key fob battery, so I replaced the battery and still received the message. I was unable to do anything with my car. This happened on several occasions, but each time it would eventually work. I then noticed that the dash kept coming on. When I would get home, I would park the car in the garage and turn the car off and go inside. I came out and noticed the lights were on and the dash lit up. I turned it off again and then sometimes it would stay off and other times it would come back on and I could not get it to turn off right away. Several times I would go to my car in the morning and my car battery was dead and I had to have my son-in-law jump my car or aaa had to come out so I could go to work. This went on for weeks until I realized it was because the car keeps turning back on on its own until the battery dies. After back and forth at the dealership and replacing other parts they thought were the issue, I am now told it is a faulty body control module which caused my car to turn on in accessory mode. The part is on backorder, so I have had to borrow a car for the past couple months. My daughter has been researching the issue and found this to be a common problem with the car. Battery drain, car alarms going off, not able to start the car, etc. All due to the faulty bcm. I see honda has had issues with this part on their other cars, but has not issued a recall for the crv yet. The part is expensive, but because I have 41,000 miles on my car it is now out of warranty. This should be investigated further, as I know I am not the only one experiencing this issue.

DescriptionThe contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, there were several unknown warning lights and other symbols illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the vehicle was diagnosed, it was determined that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

DescriptionWe had just gotten off the freeway and were sitting at a stoplight. When the light turned green, all of a sudden several of the yellow warning lights on the dashboard started to flash: emergency braking, electronic parking break, tire pressure, lane-keep assist, and others. The car became sluggish and moved forward haltingly and slowly. It feels like the breaks or the parking break are cycling on and off. We pulled over as soon as we could. Turning the car off didn"t clear the warning lights. We called aaa and they came and checked the battery -- which was at 100% and working fine. The parking break works fine; we can hear it turn on and off using the lever. We had it towed to a honda dealer nearby and are having it evaluated. It is undriveable in this state, and we are concerned that even if the dealer gets the warning lights to shut off, it could happen again at any time. There are reports all over the nhtsa website that this is a common issue -- please investigate!

DescriptionThe contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. The contact stated that the steering wheel was making an abnormal creaking sound while driving at various speeds. Over time, the steering wheel started to seize while turning. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with steering rack failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v663000 (steering) and the contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and she was provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

DescriptionWhile in line to park the car in the del mar fairgrounds, (san diego, ca) after a 25-minute ride and 59 f degrees outside, main display start sending all type of "problem" messages, one after another, as follow: - brake hold system problem, - power steering system (eps) problem, - vehicule stability assist (vsa), - hill start assist, - adaptative cruise control, - collision mitigation system, - road departure mitigation system, - electric parking brake, - tire pressure monitor, - emissions system, brake system. Despite all messages, the car keeps running and is able to go off and start again. Perhaps, the electric parking brake may prevent you to go if connected, since you have no control of it (happened once). This is the second time in two weeks that this failure occurs. It may or may not be related to another consistent issue regarding the side display (the one used for radio control, brightness, car setup, etc.) which becomes unstable and change/beep with no control from one screen to another, starting with the brightness control. This case requires the car to turn off and restart, solving the issue for a couple of weeks, and up to two months. I"m writing down this complaint because other owners express the same issue in forums, with no official statement from honda so far. Countermeasures recommended by other users are: exchange the battery for new one drive around and apply brakes firmly. The above fixed the issue for me. A cell video of this issue is available. Attached picture shows all warning alerts with car engine idle. Thank you.

DescriptionCollision mitigation braking system malfunctioned. We noticed alerts from the system when strong shadows appeared across the road such as from an overpass, heavy trees, etc. At first it was the "brake" alert indicator only, on three known occasions. A couple weeks later, the car activated the collision mitigation braking system for no reason. We were travelling at 55 mph on a country road with no vehicles, pedestrians, nor animals nearby. As we approached shadows from tall trees, the emergency braking activated suddenly, bringing the car to a complete stop. Thankfully no vehicles were behind us. Vehicle was brought to honda dealership for service. Inspected the system and told us all components were properly aligned to manufacturer specifications. They were unable to determine why system malfunctioned. They advised "honda is aware of the problem and working to find a solution." that was in october 2022. I checked with honda service most recently on january 25, 2023 and they still have no solution. For our safety, we have been deactivating the system each time we drive the vehicle. This safety system not working is a problem, as is having to deactivate it on each drive. They need pressure to issue a recall and identify a solution.

DescriptionThe high pressure fuel pump (16790-5pc-h02) failed on january 1, 2023 at approximately 11:10am in seattle, wa. We were taking the interchange from wb sr 520 to sb I-5, which includes a short uphill section, when the engine lost power and completely stalled at the top of the ramp. No warning lamps or other symptoms appeared prior to failure. We were able to push the car and roll it through a gap in the concrete barrier into a vacant road construction site. Had the stall happened one minute later, my wife, our daughters aged 2 and 4, and I would have been stranded in heavy traffic in the number 1 lane of I-5 in an area with no safe shoulder. I cannot imagine how we would have avoided a serious collision in that case. We were not able to restart the car at that time and all repair shops appeared to be closed for new year"s day, so we had the vehicle towed to our home. The vehicle started without apparent issue several days later, and we brought it to sa-go auto repair in bellevue. The mechanic at sa-go was not able to immediately reproduce and advised us of fuel pump issues with the 2018 honda cr-v. He directed us to have a dealer evaluate for recall repair. Honda of bellevue was not able to reproduce the issue and suggested the stall may have been due to a dirty air filter, which they did not replace before returning the car to us. We returned to sa-go auto repair where the mechanic conducted an extended test drive with scan tool in sync and confirmed the high pressure fuel pump fell off when the vehicle had been running for more than one hour. High pressure fuel pump and low pressure fuel module assembly were replaced by sa-go on 1/18/2023 and proper function confirmed on test drive. Old parts, including pumps and air filter, were retained by us and are available for inspection. No parts have been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. Invoices and photos attached. Thank you for your consideration.

DescriptionThe braking system slowed the car first then came to a complete stop and there was nothing in front of me . Luckily, I was able to really get out in front of the car behind me or it would have hit me in the rear. I took it to the honda dealership right away & of course since they had no "error code" there was nothing to report I was told but what if I had really been hurt, what then ?? Honda has a serious problem with the brakes on the 2018 crv. I purchased this vehicle new and I really expect better from honda but they are not living up to the reputation they"ve had in the past. I don"t trust the vehicle as I never know when it"ll do it again.

DescriptionThe contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, the steering wheel was firm while turning to the right. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the vehicle needed to be inspected to determine the cause of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact discovered nhtsa campaign number: 18v663000 (steering) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

DescriptionThe contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle stalled. The tpms and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a fuel system malfunction. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,000.

DescriptionI recently bought a 2018 honda crv and have had ongoing issues with the touch display going on and off by itself. I took a video of it. It will randomly start blinking and beeping changing the brightness on the display. There is no way to shut it off or stop it without turning off the vehicle. I have also had issues with the automatic braking system. It is braking when it should not be. It has happened to me twice on the freeway now and once in town thankfully no one was behind me, or I would"ve been rearended badly and possibly been flipped in my vehicle. I was going 75 miles per hour, and it started flashing brake and then braked for no reason there was nobody in front of me. Another time it said I was skidding but I was not until it braked than I began to skid at which point it did nothing to stop the skid. I have recently skid on ice, in town and it did not do anything to stop it, nor did it respond. I have not taken the vehicle in yet. I was researching the issues to see if they were known issues with my vehicle. To my dismay they are. I bought this vehicle due to its safety features as I have my grandkids with me frequently. My audi did not have the winter safety features I needed.

DescriptionI have a 2018 honda cr-v touring , with a 1. 5 turbo engine. It seems that as my oil usage (mileage) increases, between oil changes, I have been losing miles per gallon. After an oil change my mpg is around 34 to 35 mpg. My car now is at 60% oil usage before an oil change is needed. I am due for an oil change now. The last oil change the mechanic noticed there was a thinning of the oil and the smell of gas in the oil was present, as well as the oil quantity was higher. We assumed the higher oil quantity is due to gas in the oil.

DescriptionI was going through an intersection on my way home when the crv suddenly applied significant braking force, flashed the brake message on the dash display, and abruptly slowed the vehicle down. Thankfully there was no other vehicles behind me or there likely would have been a collision. There were no other vehicles in front of me. I can"t recall the exact details of what other vehicles may have been around, but there was definitely no reason to be slamming on the brakes. This incident occurred at roughly 11:30am est on a clear day with sun shining. This is a major safety issue and needs to be addressed immediately. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

DescriptionMy 2018 honda crv has flashed brake on dashboard about 8 times since the last 2-1/2 years. Please note that the vehicle never actually stopped. On november 20, 2022 it even beeped for the first time. And of course all of the 8 or so times that the break appeared on my dashboard, there was no one or anything in front of the vehicle. I took vehicle to honda of essex nj on 11/21/2022 and according to the tech the radar was misaligned (but who knows) I was told to pay a diagnostic fee of 4. 19. I have not been in any accident, nor have bumped into anything since I"ve owned the vehicle. I am also aware of the cnn article dated 02/24/2022 involving the same issue and is under investigation by nhtsa. I tried to get reimbursement of the 4. 19 from honda usa but because vehicle is no longer under warranty, I"ve been denied. This is a major safety issue and hoping it will become a recall. Is there anything the nhtsa can do for me?? Please advise. Thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

DescriptionThe contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the brake warning light illuminated, causing the automatic braking system to intermittently activate and the vehicle decelerated. The contact was able to continue driving to her destination. The contact stated that she experienced the failure several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

DescriptionSep 25, 2022, en route from columbus, oh to wv our 2018 honda crv started flashing a plethora of warnings regarding braking problems, blind spot failure, lane assist failure, collision mitigation failure, and many other driver assistance failures. We pulled off the interstate, into a service station, at the nearest exit. Once the car was stopped, the rear wheels locked and the electronic emergency brake would not release. We had the car towed to the local honda dealership in zanesville, oh. On oct 3, 2022 the zanesville dealership contacted us to pick up the car; they had replaced a wiring harness and control module over the rear view mirror. They said the wiring had “melted”; they said they did not have the expertise to resolve all the warnings but that the car could be driven. We picked up the car on oct 8, 2022. Within 20 miles, the car was not only flashing warnings but also constantly beeping. We made it to bruceton mills, wv before stopping for gas. Again, once stopped, the rear wheels locked and the electronic parking brake refused to release. The car was towed to the I-79 honda dealership in morgantown,wv. That dealership has master electronic technicians. That was 2 months ago and the car is still there. The dealership has been in contact with honda, inc but they simply cannot resolve the electrical problems and are awaiting a honda field technician to troubleshoot. This was a systemic electronics failure that incapacitated all of the electronic safety features — making the vehicle unsafe to drive.

DescriptionComplaint I was traveling southbound on sunnybrook where it turns to w. Amherst around 9 o"clock on wednesday morning, november 23rd. I was prepared to slow down for the traffic light since I have been to that location so many times. My speed was between 30-35mph. Surprisingly, there was no resistance when I stepped on the brake. I released the brake and stepped on it again. It still didn"t work. My car started sliding and wavering and it hit the right-side curb. It didn"t stop after hitting the curb and I repeated the step-and-release action a couple of times. After the brake failed, I pulled up the parking brake and my car eventually stopped. The brake failed. Luckily, there was no car in the intersection while my car was out of control and sliding. I was in total shock and desperate fear. I was afraid I was going to crash or even worse situation. That extreme short time of emotional rollercoaster was super distressing and I don"t feel safe driving after the accident. I felt even more horrified thinking what could have happened if there were other drivers or pedestrians involved. I was in tears and all shaking. There is a police report for the accident. The police office also stated that “ was able to easily push the brake pedal to the floor”. One more note is that my car past the state inspection on november 17th. My car was later towed to a honda-certified body shop. The body shop technician also mentioned the brake didn"t pass the test while diagnosing the car. Also, I asked for a copy of the diagnostic report which will be forthcoming as a hard copy. It was a terrifying accident putting my life and potentially other people"s lives in danger. I hope that this report will bring awareness to honda manufacturers and public safety agent. It should not happen to another driver.

DescriptionI"m driving on the highway approx 70-75mph. As I am slowing down and moving over to the exit ramp all of a sudden the automatic emergency braking system starts braking! This almost caused a rear end collision from the car behind me. He had to swerve a little to miss me. He was pretty angry and most likely thought it was my intention to brake that hard. It was extremely frightening and I am wondering if I should just turn off this safety feature until honda figures this out?

DescriptionThe contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the forward collision avoidance: emergency automatic braking system engaged while there was no object or vehicle nearby. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who calibrated the brakes. While driving, the brake warning light illuminated. The driver depressed the brake pedal and the warning light turned off. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who informed her that the brake calibration was working as designed. The contact stated she turned off the automatic braking feature. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000. The vin was not available.

DescriptionCar starting throwing all error codes at once. No issues driving, took to mechanic, could not find any issues. Did this 3 times, was advised to see honda dealer for possible computer system update. Honda said it needs all fuel injectors and fuel joint pipe replaced, due to clogged injectors. No indication of this problem, no fuel loss or engine issues. This is a 2018 with 60,000 miles. Have looked this issue up, found that it is a known issue with honda. They will not warranty the fix, wanting to charge 23. 08 to correct.

DescriptionTurn my car on and every light on my car is currently flashing saying nothing safety wise is working. Googled it and it seems to be a major problem that honda isn"t fixing.

DescriptionOn december 1, 2022, I was driving my 2018 honda crv on an expressway at 45-50 mph when the car"s automatic braking system activated the brakes unexpectedly while the vehicle was moving forward. I was driving in the middle lane on an expressway with nothing close in front of me and it happened without reason or warning. My passenger and I were lurched forward. Fortunately, no one was driving close behind me. The dealer has not been notified at the time of writing this complaint.

DescriptionThe contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle independently applied the brakes. There was an audible sound heard during the failure. The vehicle returned to normal operation after several seconds. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer, but only an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was sent an email documenting the failure. The failure mileage was 28,000.

DescriptionThe brake light came on , the seatbelt tightened around my neck and the car just came to a stop throwing my neck forward but there was no car in front of me and no cars on the side of me.

DescriptionI was in a parking lot leaving from my job in am. Clear weather 65° as I was driving 7mph the car slammed on the brakea if an object or vehicle was in front of me. No advanced warning s. There was nothing in front of me. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me and twice when my son was driving. His speed was approx40mph and the brakes slammed on with nothing crossing or in front of his path. I currently have an appointment at 1030 this am to take to honda dealership to get an assessment. This is extremely troubling and dangerous. My daughter is driving with her learners permit in this vehicle. Please fix immediately!!!!

DescriptionHello nhts, I have been dealing with my vehicle stalling & losing power while driving on the freeway. This is a very dangerous issue with my honda crv. I have had this happen several times now and it was reported to honda. Honda has not yet placed this issue on recall status. This needs to get looked at before someone gets injured or killed.

DescriptionI was driving slowly down the street in my 2018 honda crv with no traffic or people in the street in front of or in back of my car. Suddenly, the automatic emergency braking system engaged and stopped my car. I began driving again and about a minute later the same thing happened again even though there was no traffic or people in the street in front of or in back of my car. This is a serious safety issue and I am having my honda dealer inspect the car.

DescriptionAll warning lights for all systems go off on dash disabling all systems when driving. This has happened about 15 times in the past 2 years. Never know if the car will react badly when driving due to the warnings. Tried to have dealer look at it but as others have stated in blogs, suddenly goes off the day before you have to take it in and can"t reproduce it. Dealer laughed a bit as they said they have not seen it before even though there are hundreds of people online complaining about it since 2017. Showed them video, pictures, etc. They have checked the car over, reloaded software, etc. Couldn"t find anything wrong or any error codes. This car has been a lemon since I bought it. At 10k miles, dash started flashing, beeping and wouldn"t stop. Had to pull off hwy and restart to get it to go away. Dash goes blank, radio won"t work, sirius xm is not on when I get in car 3 out of 7 days a week. Overnight switches to am. I never listen to am. Read the blogs and so many people are experiencing this with no resolution or response from honda corp.

DescriptionThe contact"s wife owns a 2018 honda cr-v. The contact stated while his wife was driving 35 mph, the collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) engaged inadvertently, and the vehicle came to a complete stop; however, there were no vehicles nearby. An audible chime was heard, and the message "brakes" was displayed. The contact"s wife depressed the accelerator pedal and was able to continue driving. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

DescriptionMy vehicle computer started indicating that there was a critical brake failure and other related safety issues, this started after a brake repair at middletown honda. I returned to the dealer and they indicated that it"s the fuel injectors misfiring and need replacement. They also indicated that the spark plugs need replacement. I gave approval to replace the spark plugs and the vehicle ran well until I added fuel to the vehicle. Then the problem returned. There"s currently a recall on honda models 2014-2016 for the fuel injectors and I want this vehicle year to be included. Thank you

DescriptionThe contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. The contact stated while driving into the garage at his condominium, the vehicle accelerated unintendedly, and the front driver"s side of the vehicle crashed into the wall of the garage. The contact stated that the garage was damaged. There was no warning light illuminated. The air bags deployed. The contact had pain and swelling to the thumb of his
