How much does it cost to replace a MacBook Air screen? The cost to replace a MacBook Air screen is $299 for most models. The A1466 model is $179, while the A1932 and A1279 models are $299. The A2337 model is $299 for the LCD or $429 for the entire display.

This was the longest-running design for the screen on the MacBook Air. All the different models within these years are compatible with the same LCD panels. The cost seems to be coming down on the screen repairs for these A1369 and A1466 models. The cost to repair the screen on a 2010-2017 MacBook Air is $179. This will cover the LCD panel itself, the labor to install it, and the shipping to get the computer back to you.

Apple finally did a complete rebuild on the MacBook Air in 2018 and created a new model number A1932. The newer model has a redesigned display assembly that utilizes a different LCD panel and overall build than the prior 7 years of MacBook Air models. The cost to repair the screen of a 2018-2019 MacBook Air is $299.

The 2020-2021 MacBook Air looks basically identical to the 2018-2019 model, but the new model requires a different LCD panel than the older version of the laptop. There are actually 2 variations on this LCD panel. One is used for the intel-based models, and the other is used for the M1 models. I expect these LCD panels will be one of the harder-to-get models as it was only used for a single model of production.

Apple once again created an entirely new model with a completely redesigned screen in 2022 with their M2 MacBook Air. This new model hasn’t been out long enough for us to see what the price will end up being once the LCD panel is available on its own. For now, the cost to replace the full display assembly on the 2022 MacBook Air is $450-$750.

The LCD panel is the part of the screen that displays the image, it is the part of the screen that you can touch when the computer is open. This is the most commonly broken part on a MacBook Air screen. If you have a cracked screen, there is a very big chance that what you need is an LCD replacement.

The display assembly is the entire top half of the computer. It includes the LCD panel, the back housing where the Apple logo is, the clutch cover along the bottom of the screen where it says “MacBook Air”, the iSight camera, and the hinges. If there are any bends or dents on the corners of your display, you will likely need to replace the entire display assembly.

The clutch cover runs along the bottom of the MacBook screen. It is the part that says “MacBook Air” on it. Sometimes I see clutch covers that are cracked or broken while the LCD panel itself is working fine! This means the computer works perfectly and the entire screen is visible and working, but there is a crack along the bottom of the screen in the part that says “MacBook Air” on it. If this is the issue you have, you just need a clutch cover replacement rather than an LCD replacement.

The MacBook Air camera almost never has an issue. If the camera does stop responding, the issue is almost always with the logic board inside your computer rather than the camera itself. Sometimes though, the cameras will fail and require replacement. Unfortunately with the way these MacBook Airs are assembled, you usually have to replace the LCD panel when you replace the camera.

The back housing is sometimes referred to as the “lid”. It is the part that has the Apple logo on it. Usually, the housing does not need to be replaced, but if there is a dent on the corner of the housing, a dent on the housing itself, or if liquid damage is present in the housing, then you will need the housing replaced as well as the LCD. Again, because of the way these are assembled you normally can’t replace just the housing by itself.

The hinges are exactly what they sound like, the hinge where the display meets the computer. Older model Macs from the 2006-2012 era sometimes had hinges that would crack or break and cause the display to not stay up properly. That is much rarer on the MacBook Airs, but it can happen. Some models require an entire display replacement in order to replace the hinges, while others you can replace separately. Because Apple routes cables through the hinges, you usually have to replace the entire display assembly if you have issues with the hinges.

If you have a MacBook Air that is not covered under AppleCare+, you will spend between $450 and $650 repairing your screen through Apple. There are a couple of different ways that the display repair is billed, so the price you are quoted will vary, but these are the standard quotes. Note that each damage tier is added to by a labor charge, which is usually $100. So a Tier 1 repair is usually about $280 for the MacBook Air + a $100 labor charge.

Tier 1 Accidental Damage does not usually cover the display. It is for other parts that might have been accidentally damaged like the touchpad getting cracked or the fingerprint sensor on the keyboard being damaged. Tier one is usually quoted at $280 + a labor charge at the Apple store, although I have heard it quoted as low as $230 +labor.

Tier 2 Accidental Damage does cover the display, as long as everything else on the computer is not damaged. So if there is a dent or any kind of damage on a component other than the display, it can not be repaired under tier 2. Tier 2 repair is usually about $480 +labor at the Apple store.

Tier 3 Accidental Damage covers the display as well as other components that are damaged, as long as the logic board is still working properly. This tier is usually $530 +labor at the Apple Store.

Tier 4 Accidental Damage covers everything that could have been damaged in the computer, including the logic board. This is the tier that is usually quoted for liquid-damaged computers. A tier 4 repair is usually quoted at $650 + labor at the Apple store.

AppleCare+ does partially cover the cost of repairing a cracked screen on a MacBook Air. When you buy your computer, you are given the option to purchase AppleCare+. If you decide to purchase AppleCare+ and crack your screen, the total for the repair will be $99.

Apple stores replace parts on computers that are less than 7 years old. If your Mac is over 7 years old, you can still get it repaired, but you will need to visit a repair shop that is not an Apple store to have the service completed.

Repair cost through Best Buy is generally the same as through the Apple store. Best Buy usually charges around $450-$650 for MacBook Air screen repair.

In June of 2019, Best Buy became an Apple Authorized Service Provider. This means they have a relationship with Apple so they can order parts from Apple directly, and repair devices that are covered under Applecare.

When they do send a MacBook out for service, they are actually sending it to the same repair depots that the Apple Store does. They quote a marginally higher turnaround time than Apple (about 2 weeks). But generally have the computer back a little quicker than that.

UBreakiFix is not an Apple Authorized Service Provider. I do not know if they offer a genuine Apple screen (they could be utilizing Apple’s new self-repair program as I do for certain repairs), but I do know that their price for the 2020 M1 MacBook Air “starts at 479.99”. In order to get an exact quote, you have to bring your computer in for their free diagnosis.

The MacBook Air LCD replacement process is one that I don’t recommend for a beginner to an intermediate-level technician to attempt. It is best to start practicing with bad screens before moving on to these repairs. They are delicate and you can cause all kinds of problems during the repair by scratching backlight sheets or ripping cables under the LCD panel.

The display assembly replacement is a lot easier and can be completed by somebody with some technical repair experience. Apple has a self-repair program that covers the A2337 model MacBook Air. You can read about the program and get links in my 2020 M1 MacBook Air screen replacement guide.

I will say I have seen a lot of damaged screens when people attempt to repair the LCD panel on a MacBook Air themselves. Normally the damage is not fixable and you have to then replace the entire display assembly. I have a troubleshooting page for the A1466 MacBook Air if you have attempted a repair and ran into problems.

If you are experienced enough to complete the repair, you can find the panels on public sites like iFixit, eBay, Amazon, etc. As a shop, you will probably want to work with your vendor to get panels that have a guarantee so you can hold them in stock. The price for panels usually ranges from around $100 to about $400 for the newest model. Generally, the panels decrease in price with time, but sometimes if an LCD panel is not used frequently by apple, they will become rare and cost more over time for new ones.

Ever since Apple released the $5,000-and-up Pro Display XDR in 2019, rumors have persisted that the company was also planning a more affordable screen to fill the same niche as its Thunderbolt Display. You could connect the Pro Display XDR to a MacBook Air that costs one-fifth its price, and Apple always went out of its way to mention that M1 MacBooks were technically capable of driving its 6K display resolution. But it wasn’t exactly an appealing value proposition.

It’s certainly not for everyone, and at $1,599, it’s not the first external display I’d recommend for all Mac owners (especially people who tend toward the cheaper Mac mini and MacBook Air end of the spectrum). But as its enthusiastic reception from several Ars staffers suggests, it will find an audience by virtue of being a 5K Apple-branded monitor, and its design and features are a solid step up from the 5K LG UltraFine display that Apple has sold for the last few years.

Apple had a consistent formula when transitioning to Retina displays: every new screen would have exactly four times as many pixels as the non-Retina screen it replaced. So the iPhone 3GS"s 480×320 screen became 960×640 in the iPhone 4, and the iPad 2"s 1024×768 screen was upgraded to 2048×1536 for the first Retina iPad. The first Retina Mac, the 2012 Retina MacBook Pro, used a 2880×1800 display that exactly quadrupled the previous generation"s 1440×900 screen, and when it finally released in 2014, the 5K iMac quadrupled the pixels of the original 27-inch iMac"s 2560×1440 screen. To help offset that downside and take advantage of Retina screens" additional density, Apple also added "scaled" display modes to Retina Macs. These scaling modes increase the apparent resolution of your Mac"s screen; Apple no longer needed to offer both a 1440×900 and a 1680×1050 display option for the MacBook Pro because you could scale its screen to looklike a 1680×1050 screen, with only a minor loss of detail. The GPU would draw your desktop at 3360×2100 and then scale it down to 2880×1800 to match the native resolution of the display panel. Supply-chain sources say that Apple is in negotiations with Samsung for lower pricing on the OLED screens the Korean company is making for this year’s iPhones.

The request for price reductions comes as no surprise to the industry as the OLED panel accounts for about one-third of the total production cost of an iPhone X and has been pinpointed as a key factor contributing to the lackluster sales of Apple’s first OLED model, said the sources.

Apple is likely to purchase up to 100 million OLED panels from Samsung Display in 2018, with 25 million to be used by the current iPhone X and the remaining 75 million for the next-generation OLED models to be launched in 2018 – one being a 5.8-inch model and another a 6.5-inch one, indicated the sources.

On the downside, Apple’s plans to make two rival suppliers bid for the business seems to have hit a snag. The company had originally planned to split OLED orders for this year’s iPhones between Samsung and LG, but a recent report suggests that LG is struggling to hit production targets. The WSJ report said that it was uncertain whether LG would even be in a position to be a minority supplier this year.

There have been relatively wide-ranging estimates of the sum Apple pays to Samsung for each iPhone X display. Today’s report says that Apple is seeking a reduction from $110 to $100.

In this article we walk you through everything you need to know about Apple’s Pro Display XDR, from its on sale date, price and availability, to its features, design and tech specs, which Macs it will work with, whether you need to buy a stand too, and even how to clean it.

Details of the Pro Display XDR were announced on 3 June as part of the Mac Pro section of the WWDC keynote presentation. The monitor, branded the Pro Display XDR, boasts an astonishing spec list (it’s 32in and 6K, offering 40 percent more screen space than Apple’s 5K displays) and an eye-watering price.

It’s been a very long time since Apple last launched a display. The last display sold by Apple was the 27in Thunderbolt Display that first went on sale in July 2011. It offered what would now be considered a poor 2,560 x 1,440 resolution that can’t even match the 2,560 x 1,600 of the 13in MacBook Pro, and is dwarfed by the

Apple left the standalone display market back in 2016 when it discontinued sales of its Thunderbolt Display. However, the company made a U-turn in April 2017, confirming that it had plans to make a new monitor to go with the new Mac Pro. At the time, Apple’s head of marketing Phil Schiller said: “As part of doing a new Mac Pro – it is, by definition, a modular system – we will be doing a pro display as well.”

Alternatively, a VESA Mount Adapter will cost you £189/$199. You;ll need this is you plan to use the display with a stand you already own, rather than buy Apple’s Pro Stand.

Apple does generously include a polishing cloth for free. Apparently you will need to use this cloth to clean the display – no other cloth will suffice.

Finally, the border around the 32in screen is only 9mm thick, giving you an excellent screen-to-body ratio. (Many of the current crop of displays designed for creative pros are larger than 30in, making the 27in iMac display look small by comparison. It’s unsurprising, albeit pleasing, to see that Apple is now offering something competitive, size-wise.).

The display offers extremely high colour accuracy and contrast, as we’ll see in the specs section next; but a further benefit is that this is maintained at very wide viewing angles (thanks to what Apple calls “the industry’s best polariser technology”). This has been engineered so that more than one person can view a design project, video or photo on a single monitor without suffering a loss of fidelity.

A few more words on colour reproduction. The monitor offers a P3 wide colour gamut and 10-bit colour depth – both excellent ratings. Since Apple launched Mac OS X El Capitan the Mac has been able to display 10-bit colour; the only limitation has been the display.

The monitor works in both landscape and portrait orientation, which works well with the easy-adjust stand. And reflections shouldn’t be a problem: Apple says the standard screen is engineered for low reflectivity, but the optional nano-texture glass surface (which adds $1,000 to the price) etches a matt finish into the glass “at the nanometre level” to scatter light and avoid glare.

Speaking to TechCrunch in April 2018, Apple explained just how seriously it is taking the project. The company revealed that it has made some changes to help it better understand the needs of pro customers and developers.

To ensure that they know just what the customers need, Apple has actually hired the creatives – some on a contract basis and some full time. “We’ve brought in some pretty incredible talent, really masters of their craft,” said Ternus.

Apple went all out with the iPhone 12 display upgrades. The best thing about the 6.1" screen of the iPhone 12, besides the bump in resolution to 1080p, and the move to OLED instead of the aging LCD screen technology on the iPhone 11, is that it is protected by Apple"s new Ceramic Shield.

The so-called "Shield" is just a fancy naming for a substrate that is more resistant to drops and scratches than what we have on, say, the iPhone 11. Apple says it is up to 4x more drop-resistant, but that has to be put to the test in short order after the first batch gets shipped this week.

Well, Apple has a handy price list for just such occasions, if you have been foolish enough not to enroll in its Care program for ten to fifteen bucks a month. Needless to say, the new 1080p OLED iPhone 12 display is more expensive to replace than the $199 swap of the lowly HD LCD screen of the iPhone 11.

Surprisingly, that doesn"t go for the iPhone 12 Pro display, as the screen repair price is kept the same, even though the panel grew in diagonal from 5.8" to 6.1". Both the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro panels cost $279 to change when you take them to Apple"s repair services.

Besides the display replacement cost compared to the iPhone 11, Apple has also raised the price of the body swap. Thus, if you crack the back panel of the iPhone 12, expect to pay $449 to replace it, as opposed to the $399 it charges for the iPhone 11.

What, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 screen replacement price is double what Apple charges for the iPhone 12, you say? That"s right, but it has a fancy foldable display that Apple may or may not employ years later, and, moreover, Samsung is generous by giving you one swap for the low $149 price if you buy the Z Fold 2 by year"s end.

Two years ago Apple introduced its first LED backlit Cinema Display. The 24-inch model updated the styling of Apple’s displays to match the unibody MacBook Pro’s ID. It also added features like a built-in MagSafe power supply and mini DisplayPort input, both targeted at owners of new Macs. Unlike most 24-inch displays however, the LED Cinema Display carried an $899 price tag at launch. Even today they are selling for over $600 used. By comparison, Dell will sell you a brand new 24-inch display for $259 or $539 if you want one with an IPS panel. Needless to say, Apple discontinuing the 24-inch LED Cinema Display makes sense. The company is generally uninterested in playing in value segments and I’m not sure there’s a huge market for $900 24-inch displays, regardless of what logo is on the back.

What is a lot more interesting however is the panel used in Apple’s 27-inch iMac. A 16:9 2560 x 1440 LED backlit LCD measuring 27” along the diagonal. Giving you 90% of the resolution of a 30” panel but in a more compact space. If you need more real estate than a standard 1920 x 1200 panel can give you and don’t want to resort to a multi-monitor setup, the 27-inch iMac was very appealing. There’s just one problem: it comes with a built in Mac.

What Apple has done in the 12 months since the release of the 27-inch iMac is separate the Mac from the display, leaving us with a 27-inch LED Cinema Display priced at $999.

Both the 24-inch LED and 30-inch panels are gone, the 27 takes their place in Apple’s display lineup. The new model is really an amalgamation of its predecessors. You get nearly the resolution of the 30-inch Cinema Display with the features of the 24-inch model.

The stand is a solid piece of brushed aluminum. You can adjust the tilt of the display but there’s no option to adjust its height. This can be a major problem if you don’t have a height adjustable desk. Apple has a tendency to build very targeted devices, if you don’t fit the target, prepare to be frustrated.

The 27 uses an IPS panel paired with an LED backlight. You lose some color gamut since Apple continues to use white LEDs vs. RGB LEDs, but you gain a more compact package and lower power consumption.

Mini DisplayPort is the only way to get video into this monitor, which pretty much rules out any Mac made before late 2008. Even EVGA’s GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition lacks a mini-DP port. I was forced to go back to my old GeForce GT 120 in my Nehalem Mac Pro to use the display (which works despite Apple listing it as compatible with only the 24-inch LED Cinema Display). Like many Apple products, if you have the right hardware the combination works flawlessly, if you don’t it’s just frustrating. Atlona is the only company I’m aware of that makes a dual-link DVI to mini-DP adapter. It sells for $149.95 if you desperately want the new Cinema Display and don’t have a video card with mini-DP out. I have yet to try it but customer reviews on Amazon indicate it works with the 27-inch iMac at least.

Webcams are ubiquitous in Apple"s notebook and desktop lineups, the 27 supports the family tradition with its VGA still/video camera complete with green LED to indicate when it"s active.

Like all Apple displays there’s no OSD, everything is done in software. Under OS X this means you need to download the latest update for the 27-inch LED Cinema Display. Under Windows you need to download an update to Boot Camp 3.1. The good news is that the display works under Windows 7, the bad news is you need Boot Camp installed to get brightness control. The downloadable Windows drivers won’t work on a system without Boot Camp installed, in other words, on a normal PC you lose the ability to control brightness. Apple should make the 27-inch Windows control panel a standalone package and not tie it to Boot Camp. It seems as if Apple expects the only users interested in this panel will be those who already own an Intel based Mac. Self fulfilling prophecy much?
