Ours is a Sony Bravia that is now over 10 years old. Several months ago we started noticing lines, especially on the left (our left) side of the screen. They’d go away after the tv warmed up. Then we started noticing it was darker on that side of the screen, but again, after the tv warmed up the screen would be normal. Then about two months ago it started getting worse and didn’t ever get completely better, even after the tv warmed up. So I watched some youtube videos that all talked about the ribbon cables becoming loose over time and to apply pressure along the top and see if that made it better, and if so, it was a loose cable and if you put electrical tape or something that would help keep the pressure, it would fix the problem. Hubby pressed along the top and sure enough, when he pressed in one spot on the left side suddenly the picture cleared up. Stayed good for about a week, then problems again, pressed again, fixed again. A week or so later, same problem, but this time when he pressed on it nothing got better.

So I decided to take the cover off and look at it better. As I was pressing on the tops of the ribbon cables that run down from the top of the frame, for a minute it got better but then suddenly there was a wide white vertical line, with a thin green one down the center of it, running down the front of the screen, and it was perfectly aligned with one of the cables. So now I still have the dark side of the screen, and some ghosting, and some lines, but now this bright white streak/line right down the front. Another weird thing is that if the whole screen is bright (like watching a show set in a snowy place) then the darkness even on the left side is basically gone, but if the scene is dark at all, that side is almost black. I don’t know if it means that particular ribbon cable is bad, or if something is loose, if things need to be replaced or what. It’s very frustrating as it’s been a great tv. Hubby wants to just buy a new one, but even if he does I would still like to try and figure out this one as it could then go in another room.

Due to the fact that the issue is isolated to a single line (even with multiple pixels in height) it"s unlikely it"s the actual signal (e.g. cable or connector pins).

Some issue with the connection would most likely screw up several lines and/or the whole image and it won"t be isolated to exactly one line (especially with digital connections).

In a similar way, issues with the graphics card should most likely cause issues with the whole screen (like garbage/random patterns). Those shouldn"t be isolated to a single line.

Turn off the monitor, disconnect all cables, and put it flat on your table (screen up) so it"s sitting plane on the table. Let it sit there for a night, then try again.

If everything else fails, what happens if you use your finger nail and pull it over the faulty line? Don"t push too hard, just so there"s some pressure (typically shows some short colored trail that should disappear within 1-2 seconds). Can you see any additional patterns or "waves" that don"t fit to what you see in other areas of the screen?

Cause: There are several possibilities that can cause white lines on an LCD screen. One would be high temperature on the logic board. Logic board drives the LCD panel and when it overheats can cause this display problem.

Solution: One solution would be to clean the vent holes around the TV. One possibility that I have experienced myself servicing is a bloated capacitor on the power supply board. The worst possibility is a defective LCD panel, which is costly to repair, and sometimes it’s more practical to buy a new TV set.

Cause: There are two IC’s on the mainboard and that probably caused the IC to overheat, which in turn caused the main controller board to malfunction. They may be possible panel failure. No signal from the mainboard to the LCD panel is the usual cause of solid white screen or flickering white screen.

If you have a white screen with error V3.41.0 flashing along the top, try this first– I pressed Exit and OK buttons together and was able to then click on input/source and bring up the HDMI input and, Hey, Presto! all working again.

Check the cable connecting the mainboard to the T-Con board, (LVDS cable) try reseating and cleaning it (you can use Isopropyl Alcohol). Clean the LVDS cable at both ends.

The most common cause for the white screen is missing 12V supply for the panel. Sometimes though, it can be something very simple like a loose LVDS cable on the panel side. If this is not the case, then you will need to check the 12 V supply on the LVDS cable on the main board side (usually 2-4 pins on the end/beginning of the connector). If the 12 V is there, you should check it is secured onto the panel, where the LDVS connects to.

Watching your mobile screen with those white or black vertical/horizontal lines is annoying. In short, it’s tough to use a phone with these lines appearing on the screen. Typically, this issue is associated with the LCD, caused by a faulty hardware component in your device due to some accidental fall or water damage. Phones with such damages can only be fixed at a phone repair center.

If you are itel, TECNO or Infinix phone user and is troubled with vertical and horizontal line issues, make a reservation now without waiting time at the service shop. Carlcare Service will fix your phones easily. If your phone is under warranty, Carlcare can also save you repair costs. Check warranty now>>

However, sometimes the culprit could be an app or software glitch, hindering the functionality of key components like display assembly or motherboard. In that case, you can tackle the situation at home.

Before you head on to the fixes, let’s make your phone data safe. Sometimes, these lines are irreversible, and even the solutions you’re up to try may be followed by some sort of data loss. Therefore, the first thing you should do is make a backup of important files and apps on your device. Some popular ways for data back in Android devices are via:

In case you’re not sure about the process, it’s better to take help from a professional repair center. For Infinix, Itel, and TECNO users, Carlcare Service - being their official service center for these brands- is a recommended place to go.

If there’re white lines on the screen, this solution may prove effective. A battery cycle is when you charge a mobile to 100% and let it drain to 0% again. Usually, the lines will disappear soon as you charge the battery fully.

If the above methods don’t work, it’s time to try this masterstroke. Using your phone in a safe mode will confirm if the lines are because of some faulty app or software.

Check if the lines are gone! If yes (hopefully), then a third-party app is the culprit. Now uninstall the latest downloaded applications until the issue is gone. OR you should try the Solution:4

Suppose the lines are still visible. Then the issue is most likely due to some hardware failure- and the best option for you is to take your device to a reliable repair center.

It won’t be aggregation if you call “Factory Reset” the mother of all solutions. It fixes most of the issues caused by an app or software glitch. The process actually brings your phone back to the factory setting by erasing all the apps and files you’ve downloaded post your phone purchase.

If the horizontal or vertical lines still appear on your phone screen after trying all the above methods, you better take your device to a reliable mobile repair store near you. In order to indicate whether the issue is driver related or hardware related, kindly start your in Safe Mode and check to see if the issue still persists or not:

If the issue still persists, most probably the issue is hardware related and the screen needs to be replaced. To double-check it, restart your computer and enter the BIOS, if the screen has the same issue, it means the screen 100% is damaged.

However, if the issue does not exist in Safe Mode and BIOS, it means the issue is driver related and you should uninstall the display driver completely using this free DDU tool:

After that, go to the manufacturer"s official website and download then install the latest or a compatible graphics card driver or you can contact the manufacturer"s support services to provide you with a compatible driver.

I"ve seen this happen once or twice, is the line horizontal or vertical? Is the line affected if you move the lcd portion back and forth? Usually it"s a connectivity issue with ribbon cable from the bottom portion where the motherboard is to the screen portion. It"s a slim chance it can be software related or lcd the actual lcd is damaged. Do these few things for me and we can get a better idea of what to do.

today something pretty bad happened to my beloved OnePlus3 today. It was lying still on the table the whole day, but when I unlocked it with my fingerprint (didn"t even pick it up or move it) it suddenly showed some weird vertical white line that goes through the whole screen (and isn"t visible in screenshots, but is also visible while booting - so it should be definitely an hardware issue).

My wife noticed a weird issue on her iPhone 6 screen the other day. The bottom of the screen is "mirroring" half of the top portion (the part where it shows your carrier, signal strength, & battery life) at the very bottom of the screen. The "mirrored" portion also has ~5 horizontal grey/white lines running through it.

The lines show up on the Home screen, & if an app shows the carrier/battery portions at the top the mirrored bottom part also shows up (although it goes away on the app splash screens).

She"s already done a manual restart (hold down Home button, slide the X button across the screen), & I had her do a forced restart last night (hold down Home and Power buttons simultaneously), but it still hasn"t fixed it. When I initially tried searching for this or similar problems, there was mention of a "Pixel Fix" web app on Apple"s website (supposedly able to test for "dead" or "stuck" pixels on your screen), but I was unable to find it on the site.

Just as an aside, we replaced the screen on this phone, but that was done over 2 months ago (possibly 3 months) after she dropped it & cracked the outer screen, & the lines didn"t show up until very recently (maybe the last week at most). Also, aside from her being extra careful, we made sure we bought OtterBox Defender cases for the phones for extra protection.

Is this some sort of software issue, a hardware problem caused by the screen repair, or some other hardware issue? If so, do we need to worry about replacing the phone? We weren"t necessarily planning on new phones (other than this issue, our phones work fine, & I don"t think the 6s or 7 really offer that much more of an edge that we would really "need"), but we"re coming up on our 2-year mark with AT&T, so if we need to worry about replacing it now might be the time.

Flat-panel displays are thin panels of glass or plastic used for electronically displaying text, images, or video. Liquid crystal displays (LCD), OLED (organic light emitting diode) and microLED displays are not quite the same; since LCD uses a liquid crystal that reacts to an electric current blocking light or allowing it to pass through the panel, whereas OLED/microLED displays consist of electroluminescent organic/inorganic materials that generate light when a current is passed through the material. LCD, OLED and microLED displays are driven using LTPS, IGZO, LTPO, and A-Si TFT transistor technologies as their backplane using ITO to supply current to the transistors and in turn to the liquid crystal or electroluminescent material. Segment and passive OLED and LCD displays do not use a backplane but use indium tin oxide (ITO), a transparent conductive material, to pass current to the electroluminescent material or liquid crystal. In LCDs, there is an even layer of liquid crystal throughout the panel whereas an OLED display has the electroluminescent material only where it is meant to light up. OLEDs, LCDs and microLEDs can be made flexible and transparent, but LCDs require a backlight because they cannot emit light on their own like OLEDs and microLEDs.

Liquid-crystal display (or LCD) is a thin, flat panel used for electronically displaying information such as text, images, and moving pictures. They are usually made of glass but they can also be made out of plastic. Some manufacturers make transparent LCD panels and special sequential color segment LCDs that have higher than usual refresh rates and an RGB backlight. The backlight is synchronized with the display so that the colors will show up as needed. The list of LCD manufacturers:

Organic light emitting diode (or OLED displays) is a thin, flat panel made of glass or plastic used for electronically displaying information such as text, images, and moving pictures. OLED panels can also take the shape of a light panel, where red, green and blue light emitting materials are stacked to create a white light panel. OLED displays can also be made transparent and/or flexible and these transparent panels are available on the market and are widely used in smartphones with under-display optical fingerprint sensors. LCD and OLED displays are available in different shapes, the most prominent of which is a circular display, which is used in smartwatches. The list of OLED display manufacturers:

MicroLED displays is an emerging flat-panel display technology consisting of arrays of microscopic LEDs forming the individual pixel elements. Like OLED, microLED offers infinite contrast ratio, but unlike OLED, microLED is immune to screen burn-in, and consumes less power while having higher light output, as it uses LEDs instead of organic electroluminescent materials, The list of MicroLED display manufacturers:

Sony produces and sells commercial MicroLED displays called CLEDIS (Crystal-LED Integrated Displays, also called Canvas-LED) in small quantities.video walls.

LCDs are made in a glass substrate. For OLED, the substrate can also be plastic. The size of the substrates are specified in generations, with each generation using a larger substrate. For example, a 4th generation substrate is larger in size than a 3rd generation substrate. A larger substrate allows for more panels to be cut from a single substrate, or for larger panels to be made, akin to increasing wafer sizes in the semiconductor industry.

Chinese companies have gained a competitive edge in the large-screen display industry and the exit of South Korean counterparts such as Samsung Electronics and LG Display from the liquid crystal display market will bring opportunities for China"s panel makers despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Market research firm Sigmaintell said BOE Technology Group Co Ltd-a leading Chinese supplier of display products and solutions-became the world"s largest shipper of LCD TV panels for the first time in 2019.

The Beijing-based company shipped 53.3 million units of LCD panels in 2019, with production capacity increasing by more than 20 percent on a yearly basis.

The consultancy said the LCD TV panel production area of Chinese manufacturers will account for more than 50 percent of the global total this year, surpassing South Korean competitors who are accelerating the shutdown of large-sized LCD panel production capacity due to competition from Chinese manufacturers.

It estimated the production capacity of large-sized LCD panels will continue to increase in China over the next three years. In addition, global LCD TV panel shipments stood at 283 million pieces last year, a slight decrease of 0.2 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, the shipment area was 160 million square meters, an increase of 6.3 percent year-on-year.

"Chinese companies have gained an upper hand in large-screen LCD displays. Samsung and LG"s decision to exit from the LCD sector means Chinese panel makers will take a dominant position in this field," said Li Dongsheng, founder and chairman of Chinese tech giant TCL Technology Group Corp.

Li said South Korean firms will focus on organic LED screens and quantum dot LED displays, while Chinese TV panel makers are catching up at a rapid pace.

The pandemic will accelerate reshuffling in the display industry as supply has surpassed demand in the past few years and competition has become very fierce, he added.

"The outbreak has caused a periodic drop in demand in the global display market and sped up the restructuring of the entire industry. Chinese enterprises are in a favorable position, and I believe that they will further enhance their competitiveness," Li said.

Data consultancy Digitimes Research said it comes as little surprise that Samsung has opted to withdraw from the LCD panel sector as its LCD business was losing money in every quarter of 2019 due to challenges from Chinese competitors.

"China"s semiconductor display industry has made large advances in the past decade, changing the display industry"s global competitive landscape. China has transformed into the world"s largest consumer market and manufacturing base for display terminals, with huge market potential," said BOE Vice-President Zhang Yu.

BOE said its Gen 10.5 TFTLCD production line achieved mass production in Hefei, Anhui province, in March 2018. The plant mainly produces high-definition LCD screens of 65 inches and above. With a total investment of 46 billion yuan ($6.5 billion), the company"s second Gen 10.5 TFT-LCD production line launched operations in Wuhan, Hubei province, in December.

The Gen 11 TFT-LCD and active-matrix OLED production line of Shenzhen China Star Optoelectronics Technology, a subsidiary of TCL, officially entered operations in November 2018, producing 43-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch LCD screens.

Chen Lijuan, an analyst at Sigmaintell, said panel manufacturers should not just invest in production lines, but also pay more attention to the establishment of the whole supply chain, including raw materials, equipment and technology.

Bian Zheng, deputy director of research at AVC Revo, a unit of market consultancy firm AVC, said China will have a 51 percent market share in global TV shipments in 2020, while South Korea will have 25 percent, adding that large-screen TV panels will bolster healthy development of the industry.

Bian said the OLED and QLED will be the next-generation flat-panel display technologies to be in the spotlight. LG Display is currently the world"s only supplier of large-screen OLED TV panels.

OLED is a relatively new technology and part of recent display innovation. It has a fast response rate, wide viewing angles, super high-contrast images and richer colors. It is much thinner and can be made flexible, compared with traditional LCD display panels.

Li Yaqin, general manager of Sigmaintell, said 65-inch TVs will become the mainstream in people"s living rooms in the future, but OLED TVs will not be able to immediately spur customer purchases at this time though the future trend is for higher-tech options.
