Not all 4x4s are created equal. Jeep® Brand vehicles are designed and tested in some of the most inhospitable locations on the planet so you can feel confident when driving in a rain or snow storm or when off-roading with like-minded friends. Choose an all-weather-capable Jeep Brand 4x4 system to master any terrain and help feed your passion for adventure.
Driving in muddy conditions can be deceptive. You will need to get out and use a stick to check the depth of the mud or water. Jeep® Brand 4x4 vehicles have sealed electrical systems, a high air intake and available skid plates for additional undercarriage protection. To keep from spinning tires, experienced off-roaders often use a higher gear to control momentum and speed and let the tires’ tread do the work.
Driving on paved roads can have its challenges as well: snow, heavy rain, black ice and hydroplaning can all tax your Jeep® Brand vehicle and 4x4 system. Thankfully, Jeep Brand 4x4 systems and robust suspensions are designed to help you tame these on-road hazards.
Unpaved roads include gravel, forest service and logging roads. You can expect washboard roads and ruts that will test your vehicle’s suspension system when driving off-road. Gravel can act like ice in certain circumstances. That’s where Jeep® Brand systems with electronic brake differentials, traction control, electronic stability control and gas shocks can help you stay in control.
Driving in a blizzard, snow storm or flurry can send shivers down your spine. When faced with snow, ice or sleet, you want a Jeep® Brand 4x4. Slick conditions demand improved traction and added attention from the driver. On-road stopping distances can be up to 10 times greater in slick conditions. A Jeep Brand 4x4 system combined with brake lock differential, antilock brakes and traction control will help to see you through.
The Jeep® Brand has built its reputation on the ability to go off-roading in some of the most remote locations on earth. Jeep vehicles offer true 4-Low modes, with super-tough suspensions, available tow hooks, available skid plates and more to help you go where others fear to tread.
Driving in sandy environments can be challenging. Thankfully, Jeep® Brand 4x4 vehicles are designed with high ground clearances to help keep your vehicle from getting stuck in soft sand. For better traction in sand, drop air pressure 10-12 pounds below normal pressure on conventional tires. (Return to normal pressure after use in these conditions.)
It should come as no surprise that the Jeep® Brand is one of the world leaders in 4x4 technology—it’s the backbone of the brand. Our range of sophisticated 4x4 systems lets you find your own way up, down, through or around almost anything. You can trust the Jeep Brand with its 75-plus years of 4x4 mastery to help you tackle anything Mother Nature sends your way.
Transferring power to the wheels is one of the most important aspects of 4x4 driving. Jeep® vehicles include either mechanical, electronic, or brake-assisted differentials to help maximize power delivery to your vehicle wheels for increased traction.
Many of our vehicles come standard with stamped steel skid plates. These high-strength steel plates are engineered to help protect your Jeep® Brand vehicle"s guts when battling boulders and jagged rocks.
Capability is at our core. Choose a Jeep® Brand 4x4 and you can rest assured your vehicle will live up to its tough-to-the-core reputation. Jeep Brand engineers tirelessly torture test vehicles in some of the most brutal environments known to mankind so that you can confidently hit the trails or maneuver through potholed streets on your way to the next big thing.
The Jeep® Grand Cherokee has four proven available 4x4 systems that can tackle all weather conditions. The simple-to-use Quadra-Trac I® System is a great solution for most folks. The Grand Cherokee SRT® and Trackhawk use a full-time 4x4 system for superior driving performance in any condition. The strongest transfer case ever designed by the Jeep® Brand handles massive amounts of horsepower and torque produced by the mighty 6.4L V8 engine or the Supercharged 6.2L V8 engine. The 4x4 system features a massive mechanical wet clutch and electronic limited slip differential in the rear, which allows 100% of the drive torque to be sent to one rear wheel. Managing of torque split and suspension damping is accomplished with a dial on the five-mode Selec-Track® System.
The Jeep® Compass has two available 4x4 systems that can take on any weather condition. The Jeep Active Drive 4x4 System covers all the bases for everyday driving. The Compass Trailhawk® with the standard Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 System is the most capable compact SUV ever. Combined with the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System, you have Best-in-Class 4x4 capability.
Get 4x4 capability when needed without sacrificing efficiency. The available Jeep® Active Drive 4x4 System features a rear axle disconnect that seamlessly switches between two- and four-wheel drive to help increase efficiency when 4x4 capability isn’t needed. The Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System manages traction to give you all-weather capability in four modes: Auto, Snow, Sport and Sand/Mud.
Wrangler, the Go Anywhere. Do Anything.® icon of the Jeep® Brand, is supremely ready for your next adventure. The emotions you experience in an open-air Wrangler are indescribable. Just ask someone who owns one. The Wrangler with a standard 4x4 system can carry you to your quiet place in the woods or to your secret spot by the rolling river.
The Jeep® Renegade has two innovative available 4x4 systems that both feature a rear axle disconnect system to seamlessly switch between two-wheel and four-wheel drive. Both Jeep Active Drive Systems can keep you moving forward, even when just one wheel has traction on the ground. Renegade is ready to grab on and keep you moving forward.
Jeep® Brand vehicles are designed to take you to amazing places. The Jeep Active Drive 4x4 System is ready and able to tackle snow and trail alike to confidently carry you to your next adventure. This system actively transitions from 4x4 to fuel-saving front-wheel drive for added efficiency. The available Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System lets you adjust traction setting—Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud—according to road conditions to ensure optimum traction.
For those who seek more off-road opportunities, choose the Renegade Trailhawk® with the standard Jeep® Active Drive Low 4x4 System. This system features a 20:1 crawl ratio for confident off-road driving. The standard Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System also includes a Rock mode for enhanced off-road dynamics. This is your best bet for a rugged, adventurous, small SUV that can help you get away from it all.
Cherokee has three proven available 4x4 systems that can tackle all weather conditions. The simple-to-use Jeep® Active Drive I is a solid system for virtually any situation, the Jeep Active Drive II System provides low-range capability and the Jeep Active Drive Lock offers tremendous off-road capability.
A Jeep® Brand vehicle with a 4x4 system is a helpful ally when you encounter unexpected obstacles. The full-time Jeep Active Drive I 4x4 System will automatically engage four-wheel-drive mode when driving conditions call for it. Whether raging rain, slippery mud, heavy snow or unpredictable gravel roads, this sophisticated system actively monitors wheel slippage and automatically applies torque when needed, giving the driver maximum efficiency and control.
The Jeep® Active Drive Lock 4x4 System is standard equipment on the Cherokee Trailhawk®. It has all the features of the Jeep Active Drive II 4x4 System but also includes a mechanical rear axle lock and exclusive Selec-Terrain® Traction Management Rock mode.

I had been enjoying the 2022 Jeep Compass Model S for a month until I started facing a very irritating problem with the 10.1-inch Uconnect infotainment system before the honeymoon period was over. All of a sudden the 2022 Jeep Compass touch screen blacked out and stopped working. No matter what I did, it wasn’t turning on or responding. In this tutorial, we’ll check out some possible fixes for the touch screen not working issue on the Jeep Compass, Trailhawk, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, and other FCA vehicles that use the same Uconnect system.
The new generation of Jeep vehicles comes with an amazing infotainment system with a user-friendly interface. Compared to the older version of Uconnect, the latest iteration of the UI brings about a bunch of changes that enhance the experience. As for the touch screen, it’s fast and very responsive to touch gestures. However, as it goes about anything tech, it’s not without flaws.
The touch screen of my 2021 Jeep Compass started freaking me out one evening and kept bothering me until I managed to fix it. As you all know, the new Compass has a dedicated “Screen off” button that lets you turn off the touch screen. I turned the screen off while listening to music. When I started the vehicle after 10 minutes or so, the music stopped playing and the infotainment system displayed the Jeep logo and then the screen turned black instantly. Nothing worked except the rear and front cameras and the 360º view.
If the infotainment system touch screen of your Jeep vehicle is not working, don’t panic as I did. There are a few possible fixes to resolve the issue. I’ll be mentioning the solutions below.
Since I own the 2021 Jeep Compass powered by Uconnect 5, the steps given below are based on that. However, if you got the new Jeep Trailhawk, Grand Cherokee, or Wrangler, you can use the same tips to fix the touch screen that has turned black and is completely irresponsive.
I always keep a 32GB pen drive inserted in my Jeep Compass to enjoy music while driving. If you use a pen drive too and it’s bottle-neck full with music files, the Uconnect system might hang while trying to load it. If you use a 16GB pen drive, for instance, you should keep 50-60% of its storage free.
Keeping it almost full might create issues with the touch screen of your Jeep SUV. Pull out the pen drive, insert it into a computer, empty some space and re-insert it into the USB port of your vehicle. Try starting your car then, the touch screen problem should be solved. If doing so doesn’t help, jump to the next tip.
How to reset the Jeep Compass touch screen when it’s not working at all! You must be thinking as to how would you get to the Uconnect settings screen when the screen is totally black. Well, this is what I did to fix the touch screen that was going crazy with a blank black screen for hours. I presume that you have already paired your Android phone or iPhone with your Jeep vehicle via Bluetooth.
Now, turn off the engine and start it after a minute. The touch screen not working issue in your Jeep Compass, Trailhawk, Grand Cherokee, or Wrangler should be fixed.
You might find it funny but this tip might work for you as it did for me. If your Jeep vehicle’s touchscreen is not working or it’s blacked out and not responding at all, try this tip. If you have paired your phone with your car or connected it via Android Auto or Apple Car Play, open the phone app on your smartphone and dial a number. In my case, the UConnect screen just turned on when I made a call.
If you are not able to access the Uconnect settings at all, you can still reset the touch screen of your Jeep vehicle using the hardware buttons. Once you reset the Uconnect system using the steps given below, the touch screen glitch should be fixed.
You need to hold both buttons simultaneously for about 10-15 seconds. The Uconnect system will reset and the touch screen of your Jeep Compass or Cherokee will turn back on.
Depending on the make year and model of your Jeep vehicle, the hardware button combination to reset the touch screen might differ. In case the above trick doesn’t work for you and the touch screen not working problem still persists, try the following key combination.
If the touch screen going black issue is a random affair that pops up every now and then, it may be due to a bug in the Uconnect software. In that case, updating the software or getting the Uconnect firmware reinstalled might be the only solution to fix the touch screen not working on your Jeep vehicle.
You can easily check if new software is available for your Jeep Compass, Trailhawk, Cherokee, or Wrangler by visiting the official Uconnect portal and entering the VIN (vehicle identification number) of your Jeep vehicle. If you are told that your “YOUR VEHICLE IS UP TO DATE”, you should visit the nearest Jeep service center to get a fresh copy of the latest firmware installed by the company engineer.
Finally, there is another tip that might help you fix the touch screen not working issue on your Jeep Compass or some other Jeep SUV. If you tried all the tips mentioned above and your problem was not solved, there might be some issue related to the electric supply that powers the Uconnect infotainment system. This tip should work, especially if the touch screen of your vehicle doesn’t light up or wake up at all and stays black all the time.
Modern vehicles come with an array of fuses to support the electrical system and so does your Jeep vehicle. Be it the memory seat, sunroof, audio system, headlights, power liftgate, or any other feature that requires a power supply, there is a particular fuse for that. FCA uses a 25 Amp Clear (ATO / Uni-Val Fuse) F02 (fuse number) in most of its vehicles for the infotainment system. If the fuse number F02 blows away for some reason, the Uconnect system won’t get the power supply and function at all.
Just pull out the F02 fuse from the fuse box, clean it, and plug it back in. In case the fuse is blown, you will have to get it replaced to fix the touch screen not working issue in your Jeep Compass or Cherokee.
