This TV was a spontaneous purchase for me and my girlfriend. We decided to go HD and what better place to do so than our friendly neighborhood Wal-Mart Supercenter.
We eventually purchased the Polaroid TDA-03211C on September 9, 2007 as a seemingly good value buy and at least in name an American company, so much for economic patriotism. Out of the box the TV worked, looked, sounded, and once again, seemed great. It went kaput on October 17, 2007 and after 16 calls, 8 different customer service reps, 3 repair techs, and three wrong parts, I am officially going to warn every person that I can of this TV and the Polaroid Corporation.
To state that I feel cheated, lied to, and downright robbed is an understatement. There is a known problem with what they call the control-box, which is the key component of the television. Customer service sent us a new one initially without even taking a look at the TV. I inferred that there is probably a known design flaw with this part if Polaroid automatically sends new ones without actually first trouble shooting. If the part is in backlog, which it was for me, it will take about 1 month for the part to arrive from China. You will have to wait for the "independent tech" to contact you to schedule an appointment for repair. Polaroid outsources the repair of their product.
Polaroid does not want to give you a new TV nor does it want to refund your money. WARNING!!! Polaroid does not want to give you a new TV nor does it want to refund your money. It is their tactic to lie, give the customer the run around, and avoid resolution. Not a timely resolution, essentially no resolution whatsoever. I am now approaching the half-way point of the Polaroid 1 year warranty. This TV worked for 5 weeks and has become a 4 month headache. Do not purchase any Polaroid product. I personally believe that the restructuring after their bankruptcy has corrupted their capacity to manufacture quality products. Avoid this brand.

A year ago, I bought two Polaroid TVs with built-in DVD (32" for $800 and 19" for $250), the 19" has sound, but no picture and the 33" has a dark line down the center of the TV and the DVD player will not work at all. I bought them at Wal-Mart and they say after 30 days, I have to deal with Polaroid directly, but they were unresponsive until the warranty expired.
I bought my 42" Polaroid LCD HDTV Black Friday at Wal-Mart 3 years ago. From time to time, the picture would go black but we could hear sound. It would make weird cracking noises sometimes and now it won"t turn on. The red light in the front just keeps flashing. I have no faith in Polaroid products anymore. I am very lucky that it didn"t start a fire like others with complaints. Still, it should not be busted after 3 years!
I received my Polaroid 37" LCD HDTV in 2007. The power capacitors blew in 2011 just like many other unsatisfied owners. The TV is reduced to just a black screen and bad popping noises. I expected this TV to survive longer than 5yrs.
I purchased the TV in the spring of 2009. No problems up until a week ago when same as everyone else loss the picture. After learning this was an ongoing problem, I contacted Polaroid looking to find the name of the part. The guy said the manufacturer of the TV was sued and went out of business and Polaroid do not owe anybody anything. Have fun with your buddies from Kodak in the Chapter 11 line.
Model 02610C. Serial MR7E317200000479. I had a 19" flat screen 6 yrs old that went completely out. I was offered a 26", new, flat screen, HD. New for $225 including delivery. OK I purchased. It is not new, 2007 made in China, not HD. Second, I cannot locate a wall mount for this unit. Have tried several. They do not work holding this unit properly. My original 19" Polaroid fit properly on a mount we purchased in the store. Please advise on all of the above. Thank you.
We have a 42" flat screen DVD combo. No picture displays on the TV but the sound works. The TV has been unplugged for a few months, so I don"t understand the issue. I read a thousand posts about the same thing and noticed Polaroid did nothing to fix the issue. So what I am doing as I type is filing a complaint to the BBB (Better Business Bureau) in attempts for Polaroid to fix this mess! Join me if you are fed up and out of almost a $1000.00. Had we known this, we would have bought Sony or Sharp or somebody!
We bought a 32 inch Polaroid at tax return time in 2011. Two days before the warranty went out, the screen started going black, still had sound. Called tiger direct where we ordered it and they told us to contact Polaroid, and so i did. After waiting 2 weeks to get a call back from them, I called them back. They told me I had to deal with Tiger direct on the issue. So, I basically just got screwed around until it was too late to do anything about it. No one in my area does TV repairs. Won"t be buying Polaroid in the future that"s for sure! If there is a law suit I want it on it!
I purchased a 32 inch Polaroid HD TV DVD combo flat screen for my 24 yr old son (an electrician), as a Christmas gift this year, from Shoppers Drug Mart. After ensuring all connections were accurate and that only DVDs tried were those listed in the manual and met the components listed, upon accurate setup we found the DVD player did not work! So disappointed!
We contacted Shoppers Drug Mart immediately after we learned the DVD component of this almost $300 TV did not work from get go. We learned they no longer have any of these TVs and would not be getting these TV"s again. We were instructed to contact the manufacturer! It"s not as easy as one may think! We have not yet been able to get anywhere with the manufacturer, and are waiting to see if they will send a new replacement TV. If not, our only option left is to return the TV to Shoppers Drug Mart, who will then give us a gift card for Shoppers for the amount paid for the TV!
This gift card would be useless for our son, and it would also mean he is out a TV! Nothing is more frustrating than giving a high ticket item as a Christmas gift, only to find out it does not work, and that we must jump through hoops to get a sufficiently appropriate result! And even if the manufacturer is willing to replace the TV, it means packing up the new one we just bought, shipping it to them and only once they have received it, and verified the DVD component is not working, will they maybe send a replacement, leaving our son without a TV!
We are so frustrated and angry a brand new product doesn"t work, and we are unable to give our son the gift we chose to give him! Polaroid needs to be accountable here, and they are not!Read full review
Last night my son and I were watching TV. Then all of a sudden, the screen started going white, and also a hissed sound. So I told my son to turn it off, that it was late and that we should go to sleep. The next day, I totally forgot about the whole thing. Then we were going to watch TV and the screen was still white but with sound so I started looking on how I can fix my TV because I paid close to $700. I bought it at Walmart with warranty but the warranty already expired. I did have it fixed once because the DVD wasn"t working and it also has a white spot on top of the screen.
So that got fixed and now I have this problem. I disconnected the TV because of all the things I read here and I don"t want my house to be caught on fire. I think that Polaroid should recall all the TVs with this problem and give us our money back, because this should not be happening to all the people that bought Polaroid TVs. I think a TV should last longer than 3 years. If there is a lawsuit, please count me in.Read full review
Our 32" Polaroid TV/DVD combo was purchased for our son. Although, we are a family of just three, we purchased our third TV so he could have one in his room. Until today, I did not realize what could have been a terrible error on my part. We experienced the same reaction on our TV this week. The TV is popping, sizzling, smoking and hot to the touch. I"m thankful we were awake and aware.
I bought a 15-inch Polaroid from Walmart around February 2009. In 2011, it just went black and all it had was sound. The warranty and two-year Walmart extended warranty had just run out. I now have to buy a new TV for him. After reading the tons of reviews, this is a regular occurrence with this company! There is no fixing the TV. I will never buy anything from Polaroid again. I will also for go any electronic purchases from Walmart. I bought this TV for myself years ago. It went out then. I must have missed the “lemon" menu!
I bought a 40-inch LCD flat screen television from Wal-Mart right after we got the special tax rebate from President Bush (2008). After using it for around a year, which just used up the warranty, I restarted my computer, as I had just did updates, and the TV never came back on again. Only the power light comes on. What a piece of junk.
I purchased the Polaroid combination DVD/card reader model TDX-02610B at the Walmart Black Friday sale in 2009. Like others posted, the DVD and card reader ceased working within the first 6 months. When I contacted the manufacturer, I could not negotiate the cost and packaging of the shipping requirements, so I passed on sending it for repair. I had a CD in the component that would not eject which was the initial indicator of the malfunction. Months later, while watching the set, the CD ejected on its own almost sending me to an express visit to the lavatory! Periodically now, the CD compartment will awaken with a noise as though a CD is enclosed and run until the set is powered off.
I have a 42 inch Polaroid TV at 800 dollars. The sound is poor and I heard a crackling noise. Now, I got an 8 inch LCD black line going across the middle of the screen. What is going on with your new TVs? I am not the only one with this problem. If I have to, I will go to the BBB to see if they can fix this problem about sticking people with no good TVs. I will put my problems in the newspaper, on twitter and Facebook if this isn"t fixed. You need to stand behind your stuff. I don"t know what else to do to get you all to see what you are selling to people.
I bought my 32" Polaroid TV at Black Friday 2008 at Wal-Mart and shortly after a year, you could see some weird looking black globs going around the screen. It was never really a big problem as much as a nuisance until Christmas morning this year! I hear a loud pop and my screen goes black! I still have sound though! This shouldn"t have happened after 3 years and 500 dollars! I"m so upset! I just used all my extra cash for Christmas! Now my kids are stuck with a new X-Box Kinect and a new Wii that they can"t use until I find enough money to go buy a new TV. Thanks a lot Polaroid!
I purchased my polaroid TV a little over 4 years ago. Early this morning, I woke up to a very strong smell of smoke in my room. I panicked because I did not know if my house was on fire or what. After frantically running through the entire house, I noticed that the smell was centralized in my room. I soon noticed the smell was coming from the TV. Well, I turned my TV on and it admitted a dark cloudy picture for about 2 seconds and then went completely dark. I am furious! I have no clue what is wrong with my TV but I am furious just pondering the thought that this TV could have caught my house on fire while I was sleeping!
I purchased a Polaroid Television/DVD Combo unit, model TDA03211C in 2008. After rarely using the DVD unit, it will no longer work. The DVD will not load.
Just like many others, I bought a 42" Polaroid TV on Black Friday in 2008. About 8 months later, the TV went black, but had sound, so I unplugged it and waited a day. I called Wal-Mart. They told me that this was new, and that they haven"t heard of this problem. I tried to call Polaroid, and never heard from them. I called Wal-Mart back, and nothing, until now. I was told about this blog. I hope something will be done now. Let"s sue Polaroid and Wal-Mart.
I was watching the TV a few mornings ago, and it made a hissing / popping sound and went black. I tried turning it off then back on, and all I get is a black screen and no sound. I bought this TV on Black Friday a couple of years ago and had saved for close to two years to get a good television (what I thought it would be), as the one I had before was close to 20 years old.
I am a single-income household and don"t have an extra $450.00 every couple of years to buy a new television. I have tried contacting Polaroid, and all I get is a list of repair people who want to charge me online to just give advice. Advice is not what I need. What I need is to have my TV replaced with one that is going to last more than a couple of years and not have to worry about it starting my home on fire. I hope there is some legal action that can be taken by all who are suffering because of these faulty TVs the company won"t stand behind.Read full review
I was considering purchasing a 32" Polaroid TV/DVD this weekend on special at Shoppers Drug Mart for $198.00. I decided to look up reviews prior to purchasing. Due to all the poor experiences, I will not be making this purchase. Thanks!
Our 32" Polaroid TV made a popping sound last night and then began to smoke. We unplugged it and I called Polaroid. The only thing they offered was a $150 part to fix the TV. The TV only cost $188.
I purchased my Polaroid TV/DVD combo from HSN less than a year ago. The same has happened to me as to other Polaroid purchasers, no DVD is playing. The TV is still working but when will that go out? My combo Polaroid is a 32" HD LCD TV and DVD Combo, ****. I have ordered another Polaroid remote but am wondering if that is going to help as I read these complaints. Friends had suggested getting 2 separate units, one for TV and one for DVD but I saw an ad on HSN for this Polaroid TV/DVD combo. Polaroid used to be a reputable company, at least for cameras, but maybe not for TV/DVD combos. I am totally ticked off in Tampa, FL and I will not purchase any Polaroid products. I will be posting this on my Facebook and YouTube.
I purchased 2 32" Polaroid LCD TVs from Wal-Mart on Black Friday 2007. I paid close to $500.00 for each of them. I really had no problem with them until today, when one of them suddenly made a popping sound, and the screen went black. I am not happy! After doing some research, I found that there is a class action suit. I found the names of some lawyers in the suit that are representing the plaintiffs. I am going to contact them to see what is going on with the lawsuit. Something needs to be done. Polaroid was well aware of the defects of these TVs, yet they still sold them. Some have even caught on fire. A TV should last more than 4 years. After reading all the complaints here, I am sure my second TV will also inevitably die soon too.
I was watching TV this morning when my flat screen went blank and white smoke start pouring from the top and back of the system. I immediately jump up to turn it off and unplug it. I removed all connections and isolated the TV, checked for fire and it was extremely hot to touch. I feel I was lucky to have been home watching when this happened because it would have caused a fire. The TV was purchased at WalMart in 2008 and like so many others at the Black Friday sale. I am wondering if this was a known problem since it appears that everyone with it is experiencing the same thing at the same time. Is there recourse for replacement, repair, or reimbursement? These TVs were not cheap in price. Prior to this major issue, I would have given my rating of 4 stars.
Polaroid tv-32" w/ DVD player bought on black Friday a couple of years ago at Walmart. I was home one night while watching my grandson I heard a crackling and hissing sound coming from the TV. The TV was burning had I not been there to stop the fire. I might have lost my home or someone could have died. Maybe I should get a lawyer if the company does not want to do anything.
Unfortunately, I am reporting that I had similar issues with my 32-inch Polaroid TV/DVD combo. I purchased to flat screen unit in 2008 and have had mounted on the wall ever since. The DVD player stopped working in early 2009, which we have begrudgingly lived with.
Last night, we had the puff of smoke, then a black screen with only audio. When we invested in this television, we expected that we would have it for more than 3 years. We have not abused this unit in any way and expect Polaroid to compensate us for selling a defective product. Clearly this is not an isolated incident.
In fact, with these problems reoccurring so often, and to so many people, I believe this to be a deliberate action undertaken by the Polaroid company to sell defective merchandise.Read full review
My story is the same as all the other posts. We were watching the TV and all of a sudden, it turned off. It was turned back on and all we got was a black screen with sound. This TV was purchased on Black Friday 2008 and was not used until Dec. 26, 2008. Within 3 months, we sent it back to Polaroid for losing the picture and 3 months later, we sent it back in for the same thing. So all has been great until Sunday night when we were watching the football game. I""m very unhappy with this product and the time of year it has chosen to go "black". I suppose we got a black TV for Black Friday. So what are we all to do? This one is not the DVD model.
I bought our 32-inch TV from Walmart in 2007. Within the 1st year, the DVD player went out. I replaced it with another one which also had a broken connector on it, but we did not use that portion of the replacement. Now last night, the TV went out, no picture, but it has sound. I truly think we should be compensated for our loss, like many others right here. At Christmastime, we are not in a position to just go out and buy another one.
We purchased a Polaroid LCD TV/DVD combo model TDA-03211C in December 2008. Approximately 4-5 months after purchasing the TV, the DVD player quit working. We Didn"t worry about that too much because we had other ways to watch DVDs through the TV. Then last week, the TV popped, began to smoke, and lost video. The audio still works fabulously, just no picture. When we turn it off and unplug it for a little while and turn it back on, it flashes a very faded screen and then the input, also faded, pops up in the top right hand corner and then goes black. I would truly expect to get more than 3 years out of an 800-dollar television. For this to happen so close to Christmas unexpectedly is disheartening.

I am so glad you wrote this article. I was shocked that my Element FLX-3210 32 inch LCD TV has the same PCB power supply as your LCD TV does. I had both capacitors go bad as you did.
Tonight the TV went black, and when I turned it off and back on it was real dim where I could hardly make out anything especially in the middle. After two seconds it turned back off.
Hi there. My name is Carlito and I"m from Spring Park, Minnesota. Two months ago I plugged in my laptop to my LCD TV (Element FLX-3210). I forgot to change the power setting so after a few minutes my laptop switched to hybernate mode. Suddenly the screen on my TV flashed a warning that says "No input detected, tv will shutdown", so it did. I changed the setting for the laptop but when I tried to turn the TV on, it wouldn"t turn on. I tried to look for an answer in the internet as to why it happened only to find out that my problem was common for a lot of people with the same TV set.
There was one website that I checked and some tech guy was saying that it could be a power supply problem but he never elaborated on the topic. Then I found this blog, thank God. Looking at the photos on your post, I am pretty sure that your TV and mine have exactly the same PCB power supply. (i was able to crack my tv"s back panel by the way looking for answers (hahaha).
Do you have any suggestions as to where to look for problems and where to buy the right components. I have a little bit experience in soldering components to PCB. I use to repair GSM cellphones back in the Philippines. And most of my life I worked as a Musician/Worship leader in the church so I have a few experience repairing simple electronic circuits such as electric guitars and so forth. Might not be enough but if you can instruct me on what component to desolder or resolder I can give it a shot. I would consider this a DIY project. My wife said she is buying a new TV next week. But if you can help me pull fix my TV it could save us a lot of money. I hope you don"t fall a sleep reading my comment. i wopuld appreciate all the help you can give. Thanks and God bless you more for taking the extra mile to help other people.
We had the same problem with the tv last year when it was making a humming sound and followed similar instructions. Now the TV wont turn on--no little blue light when off, nothing. We took off the back to see if the same thing happened--one of the caps was fatter/expanded at the end so we replaced it and thought that was the problem--only still no luck. We switched out the power plug from another tv and still no luck. Any thoughts? Thanks
Bob,I really needed the help you"ve posted on the 32" LCD Polaroid TV, replacing the capacitors that light up the screen. I have a question if you don"t mind. Will the orange drop type capacitors work for this fix If I use .47 uf 400 volt capacitors? I can soldier but not to good deciding what capacitors to use. thanks
Hi Bob,I went back with the same type & size caps that came in the tv, it brought the picture & sound back on..but I still have the smuge streak down the middle of the picture. So I"m gonna hang on to your info & when I get around to it I gonna go with metalized polyester .47 at 400 volt & see if it clears the smuge line up.Thank you Bob.

Spurred by a spate of reader emails about Vizio HDTVs catching fire, HD Guru was inspired to look into a story about flaming television sets. Sure some consumers consider Vizio HDTVs hot deals, but a handful were apparently more literal about that than others. Sure enough, a search of consumeraffairs.com and some other websites turned up reports of Vizio-related fires.
I have had my 42-in. Vizio LCD flat screen for about three years. Monday May 9, 2011 we were watching TV when all of a sudden there was a loud pop and the screen went black. We unplugged the TV and plugged it back in turned it on and it started shooting flames out the back.
A Google search revealed other incendiary Vizio HDTV complaints. Posts dated October 2010, regarding three smoking and flaming Vizios, appear on Sears" website. (The company recently dropped the Vizio TV line, though we are not claiming the decision is in any way related to the fire issue.)
Malfunctions were not limited to Vizios. Samsung and Polaroid TV owners complained about smoking TV sets too, and some, like this one, aired their grievances on ehow.com:
Samsung TV Model UN46B8000XF, bought it Friday, April 29, 2010 the warranty expire April 29, 2011. This TV model starting a week ago making popping and creaking noises, when I turn on the TV for the first few minutes and when I turn the TV off the popping and creaking goes on for about a hour, I reside in a studio so this sound before going to sleep is annoying.
Samsung LN32A450 TV turns off and on. Sometimes will not turn on at all. Come back to it at a later time and it works. Problem is intermittent, but with increasing frequency.
The (Polaroid) TDA-03211C model has had numerous issues with overheating. Many such models manufactured between 2007 and 2009 sold by Wal-Mart actually have false safety standard logos and questionable parts and construction (Reference 2). There have been reports of smoke coming from these TVs, and at least one report of a TDA-03211C catching fire.
Also remember that this isn"t a new problem. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has been keeping track of TV fires as far back as 1992. In that year, there were 1,400 television fires in the U.S., leading to the death of 20 people, with 120 injured. (For some reason, the CPSC no longer publishes TV-fire-specific data.)
Yet as rare as these problems may be, they are sometimes exacerbated by the owner. TVs are not computers. In the event of a malfunction, you do not simply turn one off, then turn it back on. If a TV shuts down or makes a popping sound, you need to consider the possibility of a severe malfunction, otherwise what happened to Kellie might happen to you.
How to avoid a fire and protect your warrantyKellie’s initial problem — a loud pop followed by the set going black — is typical of a TV showing the first sign of component failure. If your TV shuts itself off (with or without a pop), the first thing to do is unplug the power cord. TVs should never shut off by themselves. There is an internal circuit breaker that’s activated as a safety precaution when a component is not functioning properly.
The next thing you should do is call the TV manufacturer’s customer service number and report that the TV shut itself off and needs to be repaired. Make sure you get a case number. This is extremely important if the set is within the warranty period as it establishes the problem"s date of origin.
What to do if your TV catches on fire or smokesAfter unplugging the TV and putting out the fire, contact the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. According to CPSC spokesperson Patty Davis, the agency launched a new product safety complaints websiteon March 11. Here you can report an unsafe product such as a smoking TV as well as check out other recalled products. Make sure you know the exact model number before filing the report as the agency will need specific information to commence an investigation.
HD Guru reporteda voluntary recall by Best Buy of over 13,000 Insignia TVs that could catch on fire caused by the set’s failure-prone power supply that has already injured one set owner which necessitated the recall.
We called Vizio’s spokesperson for additional information about the smoke/fire issue, and received a response of “no comment.” Regardless of brand, readers following our recommendations can reduce the chances of fire or injury due to defective HDTVs and increase the likelihood of receiving a free repair or replacement.

We carry high-quality TV parts for many Polaroid TV models and common Polaroid TV repairs. When searching for the correct TV part to fix your Polaroid TV, we always recommend searching by the exact part number located on the part you want to replace or repair in your TV. If you want to start your search by TV model, you can find your TV"s model number on the back of your TV, in its manual, or through its menu/settings.
