The Huawei Matebook X Pro is a laptop designed and manufactured by Huawei as part of the Huawei MateBook laptop line. Huawei has introduced its latest MateBook X Pro, a compact sub-notebook with a 13.9-inch touchscreen display. The device comes in two colour variations, namely Space Gray or Emerald Green. The overall casing is rather similar to the 2018 model, with the same smooth matte aluminium surfaces along with chrome-cut edges and corners and an even higher 91 percent screen-to-body-ratio. Flexing is also quite minimal around the base and centre of the keyboard and likewise for the lid, despite having very narrow bezels. Apart from that, the bar hinge is sufficiently firm and uniform with minimal teetering up to its maximum of about 150 degrees.

The MateBook X Pro has been equipped with a full-fledged USB-3.0 Type-A port. According to Huawei, the inclusion of this port was a direct response to consumer demand and also due to the growing annoyance among users for having to carry Type-C adapters. There is also a single USB Type-C port, an HDMI port and a compact port replicator MateDock 2. However, there is no symbol indicating a Thunderbolt-3 port next to the USB Type-C port. From a technical point of view, the front USB Type-C port supports all Thunderbolt-3 features, but Huawei probably decided not to purchase a license for this model and therefore could not display the Thunderbolt name or symbol on this MateBook X Pro.

In terms of its display, there is only one option available for this MateBook X Pro, and that is a reflective, capacitive 3:2 touchscreen which runs at a native resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixel. Overall, the image quality was quite good with crisp display content and popping colours for a good viewing experience. The display is definitely the highlight of this device, as it has incorporated a Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicone (LTPS) panel, which does not require a backlight. Due to its compact nature, this technology tends to allow very high resolutions for viewing pleasure.

As far as the performance is concerned, the Huawei MateBook X Pro 2020 has been equipped with an Intel Comet Lake CPU paired with a Nvidia GeForce GPU. The latter may be the reason for Huawei opting out of Intel’s Ice-Lake chips, as theoretically there is no need for a more powerful and integrated GPU. One of the issues with this device, though, has to be its poor performance characteristics or, more specifically, its low TDP threshold of just 15W for sustained load. This performance might be okay for short bursts of load, but under sustained load, this new MateBook X Pro turned out to be even slower than its own Core i7-8550U powered processor. This is definitely a drawback. However, in terms of battery, the device has been packed with a 57.4Wh battery for good battery life. Overall, the device has its own share of high and low points for users’ considerations.

Huawei updated its MateBook X Pro, and the new model features a combination of Intel Comet Lake CPU and Nvidia GeForce GPU. Unfortunately, performance was relatively poor and the dedicated GPU was even outperformed by some integrated GPUs.

And on top of that, Huawei has decided that it would be a great idea to put both the battery connector and the M.2 NVMe slot beneath the entire cooling assembly, requiring its removal, in order to access the former two. The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2020 is a slim, solid notebook with some really useful features that will help increase your productivity. Even though it’s not perfect (nothing really is these days), these features definitely overcame its couple of minor flaws like the camera placement.

At $3,299 this is expensive for a premium notebook and rather under-featured too. Comparing it with the recent Asus Expertbook, this promises a lot but is limited in what it delivers. It’s not particularly attractive, but that’s not a dealbreaker for the corporate market. One of the big concerns will naturally be the politics Huawei is embroiled with right now, but everyone will have a different view on that. Ultimately, it’s pricey but the screen and speakers offer a unique combination that will prove attractive to some.

The Matebook X Pro is the MacBook of the Windows world and if someone does mind dishing out $2,499 or the awkward webcam placement they won"t be disappointed.

The MateBook X Pro has a lot going for it. It’s well-built, the display is superb, connectivity options aren’t bad, it has an interesting webcam implementation, and it has a massive and fluid trackpad. Insofar as premium ultraportable notebooks are concerned, it’s a very solid option that will give contenders from rivals like Dell and HP a run for their money.

This MateBook X Pro (2020) review has revealed a laptop better suited for work rather than play, even if the graphics are fairly decent and the display makes movies enjoyable to watch. The large, squarer display compared to other laptops gives you lots of room to work with as you write or edit, and might be just the thing you"re looking for if you want something that"s got the dimensions of a 13-inch laptop but with a display that approaches the size of a 15-inch model.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro is a lightweight and portable notebook which delivers great performance and even features a gorgeous almost-borderless screen. It is a notebook more suited for students, content creators or casual gamers and will pair up best for those who already own a Huawei smartphone.

With little changing year-on-year, it"s difficult to recommend the 2020 X Pro to anyone that has 2018 and or 2019"s models - particularly as its battery isn"t better. However, it is a faster machine and does have that beautiful display. Sp for those looking for a new laptop, or interested in changing brands, we can fully endorse the MateBook X Pro 2020. You"ll look amazing with it under an arm, or in a coffee shop (hopefully from a distance of at least two metres). It runs like a dream, it doesn"t feel like much when carried in a bag and it"s fairly affordable (by premium laptop standards, at least) at £1,699.99 inc VAT. This is a business machine, but it"s also a fashion statement.

Huawei hasn’t changed much about the MateBook X Pro 2020, but then why would it? This was one of the best laptops you could buy last year, and the upgrade to 10th-gen chips and a lush new colour keep things that way.

If you want a viable alternative to the 13-inch MacBook Pros and Dell XPS 13s of this world, then the Huawei MateBook X Pro (2020) stands up well to scrutiny. It scores highly in all the key areas, but you"re going to have to part with a substantial sum in order to get it.

I still find the 2020 MateBook X Pro to be one of the better premium ultrabooks out there. The sturdy craftsmanship, the excellent 3:2 display, the quick and comfortable keyboard, the fine everyday performance and battery life are still among its major selling points, but the limited thermal design and performance in demanding loads, corroborated with the steep pricing, eat into its overall worth.

Finally, the big question: is the Huawei MateBook X Pro 2020 worth the admittedly pricey RM7,999? Personally, I’ve enjoyed my time with Huawei’s flagship laptop, and it’s a great combination of power, portability and design for somebody who works on the go regularly (like me). The variant available in Malaysia has a discrete GPU, so you can even slip in some light gaming while you’re at it.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro is a great all-round laptop with a lovely ultra-portable design, gorgeous 2K display and a performance decent enough to handle basic productivity tasks. A terrible webcam and a reflective display are the main factors holding it back from challenging the Dell XPS, but it"s still a great value option for the likes of students and office workers.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro (2020) has its own merits. It comes with a good-sounding speaker, good specs on paper, and overall solid build quality. Compared to other premium ultrathin laptops, the only thing that’s special to me personally is the fact that it uses a screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio when we have a sea of 16:9 or 16:10 laptops.

HUAWEI got a lot of things right with the HUAWEI MateBook X Pro (2020). A premium build, excellent display, long battery life and good audio are definitely some of the things that you would expect in a laptop that costs a cool RM7999. However with a poor cooling system, you aren’t exactly able to enjoy the full brunt of the performance that the hardware in the HUAWEI MateBook X Pro packs. Which is quite unfortunate considering that you are paying quite a lot for it.

With a stunning trim-bezel screen, heaps of power on tap, ample ports (including full-size USB), and a great-looking finish throughout, the MateBook X Pro is, in many ways, the Windows laptop equivalent of the Apple MacBook Pro.

Don’t get us wrong, this device is nothing short of a premium build quality that packs a punch with some exclusive features, and I enjoyed using it as my working laptop for a whole week. But with a price of Php 119,990, I just can’t see myself considering this ultrabook unless I decide to hop on the train and go full-Huawei with all my devices.

If this machine had a new Alder Lake chip in it, I’d probably be saying that it’s the best compact laptop you can buy at the moment. But it hasn’t. The display and sound system are genuinely superb and quite the match for anything else on sale today, but the performance is rather mediocre for a notebook in this price bracket. I can’t shake the feeling that this anglicised version of an existing Chinese model has been rushed out to maximise Huawei’s commercial opportunities around the recent Super Device announcement at MWC 2022. I don’t blame it for that, but my advice is to wait for the next Huawei MateBook X Pro (with 12th gen Intel silicon). If that has the same display and speaker system as this model it will be a laptop I’ll crawl over broken glass to get my hands on.

With its combination of specs, the X Pro has more of a business focus and perhaps save for the battery life will make an excellent companion for the office or travelling. I’d still like a USB-A port, but the X Pro has a long list of excellent features almost everywhere you look. Whether it’s the larger screen with excellent colour performance and 90Hz refresh rate, the top-notch keyboard and trackpad, repositioned webcam, great core specs, or the speedy charging. It’s an almost perfect balance for productivity and it’s also great for a range of other tasks including entertainment. The lack of a dedicated graphics card may put some users off – but really only those needing large amounts of grunt for work like video editing. It can still handle that, as well as gaming, if you curb your expectations compared to more powerful rivals.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro has combined everything I loved about the MateBook 14s with new features, a 11th-generation i7 Intel processor and a sleek, portable design. With a speedy performance and a vibrant screen, this is one of the best productivity laptops we’ve tested, although that high price is difficult to ignore.

Finally, there’s an innovation called Huawei Free Touch, which allows what the company calls “Creative Gestures” from the laptop’s touchpad. Think video scrubbing with a swipe from left to right, volume reductions with a swipe down and screenshots via a quick double-tap. How well they work in practice remains to be seen and it could be a forgettable gimmick, but from past Huawei MateBook Pro X models we know that the company makes an excellent laptop in all other respects. If the internals are up to the usual high standards, this should be another winner, assuming the company hasn"t upped the cost considerably from its usual £1,599 price point.

NVIDIA GeForce MX250: Successor of the MX150 and still based on the same Pascal GP108 chip (similar to the desktop GT 1030) but with higher clock speeds. Available in two versions, a normal 25 Watt version and a low power version with 10 Watt TDP and reduced performance. The 25 Watt version e.g. offers a 21% higher boost clock than the old MX150 leading to a 5% performance gain.

i7-10510U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced on 14nm++). The integrated memory controller supports DDR4-2666 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default).

i7-1195G7: Tiger Lake based quad-core processor for thin and light laptops and fastest UP3 (up to 28 Watt) CPU. Produced on the second-gen 10 nm Intel SuperFin process. Features a base clock from 1.3 GHz (configured at 12 W) up to 2.9 GHz (28 W). The Turbo can reach up to 5 GHz on a single core.
