lcd display fading price

I"ve been the happy owner of a D7000 for many years now. I"ve noticed in the last 6 months that the LCD has started to fade in a circular direction from the corners. I haven"t put much use into my camera - less than 3,500 actuations of the shutter - so wasn"t expecting this to happen. Would like to know if anyone has had the same issue and if it can be resolved easily. What would be the cost?

I have not seen this mentioned in 10 years of dpreview, while every problems becomes discussed over and over again, whether a real or imagined problem. So I guess failing LCD on D7000 is not frequently happening. I had 2 D7000 and they are still heavily used by family members, about 10 Nikon in the family, hardware failures encountered in 10 years include 4 issues  due to user error: 2 times banged camera/lens into something, 2 times dropped camera into water. After 4 years past recovery from dropped into water, a D5000 passed away by mechanical shutter failure. Also one off brand zoom lens failed after years of heavy use.

It’s the polarizing film that’s stuck on the lcd panel which fades that causes the lcd display to look faded. You need to open up your watch and to peel off the polarizing film that’s stuck on your lcd display and put new polarizing film on the lcd panel.

Once an LCD display screen is cracked or broken, it cannot be repaired. A new LCD screen will have to be purchased. In the case of a desktop computer, a new monitor will need to be purchased.

It is fading from the top left side (more or less) and it is moving down to the bottom right corner. The backlight stays on the whole time until the restart (as far as I can tell) and it looks like the power has been cut to the LCD. Disconnecting the controller cable between the main board and the power supply keeps the screen on with 100% brightness and no picture (obviously). Turning it on with one of the T-con cables turns the tv on, you can hear the menu working just fine by the sounds, no matter which one I plug in, but having both of them plugged in at the same time as it should be gives picture and the fading to black as I mentioned above. I already contacted an ebay seller about a new main board but he said he bought it originally to solve the exact same problem, without any luck, so he advised me not to do the same mistake.

BMW 3 series (E36), 5 series (E34, E39), 7 series (E38), 8 series (E31), X5 from 1988-2003 all have the common dead / fading / disappearing pixels on the dashboard instrument cluster / speedometer (also on the board computer) - on the large LCD display that shows valuable data such as the mileage and the on board computer messages. The instrument cluster units in the BMW E38, E39 and X5 models from 1994-2003 are quite similar - (they were all produced by Siemens VDO) - using the same LCD and the same ribbon cable at all models. There are minor differences, like diesel or petrol powered ones, and also some speedos come with miles others with km/hrs, however the OBC LCD display and the ribbon cable is the same at all 5 series (E39) 7 series (E38) and X5 (E53) and M5 models.

Fits all E39 / E53 MID units assembled with bulbs (not leds). If you have uneven background light on the MID unit (some parts of the LCD are lighter, some are darker), most probably you have dead or almost dead bulbs.

I have a cluster from by Golf that has a dead full pixel display. It started off with dead lines (mostly vertical), got worse with hotter days, then died completely (with a little help from my attempts to fix it). It seemed to me when I investigated that the bond between ribbon and display was failing on indvidual lines.

If you figure out how to bond a new display to the circuit board, I"d be interested in getting this cluster repaired so I"d have a spare for when the cluster in the car goes dead (it was the former spare). Of course, if somebody comes up with a good group buy on these again...

This is a high quality polarizing film which is used in the manufacture of LCDs. It has a matte-finish, anti-glare coating to decrease reflections from external lights (e.g., sunlight, headlights, etc.) and a hard-coat to resist scratches. The film contains a UV protectant to minimize fading.
