NVIDIA"s flagship GeForce RTX 3090 is already boss, and that was before Galax kicked things up a notch by slapping an LCD display and crown on top of the thing. But hey, why stop there? For spits and giggles, someone thought to flash the card with a 1,000W BIOS, without swapping the custom three-fan air cooler for a liquid or LN2 solution. So, how did it go?

Let"s talk about the card. Before you start your calibration efforts, install the latest NVIDIA display drivers from GeForce.com , set your screen resolution to its native resolution, for example 1920x1080 on a 1920x1080 monitor, and let your monitor warm up for 20-30 minutes (some may take longer, others less so) to ensure it"s operating to its full capabilities. The quality and properties of monitors can vary from one unit to the next in production runs, so you may find the recommended settings above are ‘off’, or perhaps you simply wish to tweak to your personal liking. The easiest way to do this is to utilize a variety of online tests, and the “Calibrate display” tool in the “Advanced” tab of the Color Management application we were using above.

Online, the go-to location for any monitor tweaking is Lagom’s suite of test images . There, you can calibrate Contrast, Sharpness, black levels, and many other aspects of your monitor’s display. But what you won’t find is a good motion test, which is particularly important for gamers using modern monitors equipped with motion blur, input delay, input lag, zero lag, and other similarly named modules that reduce blurring on fast-moving objects.

At the conclusion of Windows’ display calibration you can also access ClearType Text Tuner to adjust the clarity of text in Windows, which is particularly important for any heavy-duty readers or typists. If you don’t need anything quite as fancy though there are plenty of other great monitors out there that should provide a superior experience, reducing eye strain and making your games and multimedia look better than before.

The RTX 3080 really doesn"t need any introduction. This is the de facto card to get if you plan to run current generation games at 4K, since it"s up to 50% faster than the previous generation RTX 2080 SUPER and doesn"t command the exorbitant price of the RTX 3080 Ti or RTX 3090. It has an HDMI 2.1 port for 4K @ 120Hz, which it has the power to drive even in resource hungry games like Elden Ring. This model has an additional 2GB of GDDR6X VRAM (12GB compared to the standard 10GB).

The RTX 3080 Ti had previously been maligned as a "poor value" compared to the RTX 3080 and that"s because of one justifiable reason: it"s MSRP of $1100. That made it a whopping $400 more expensive than an RTX 3080. At 4K resolution, an RTX 3080 Ti represents a 10% performance increase over an RTX 3080, and that certainly wasn"t worth $400.

Fast forward to today and Amazon has the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti XC3 Ultra for $859.99. That"s only $140 more an RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra, and now the performance increase is actually quite tempting, especially if you"re gaming on a 4K monitor. If you"re running games at 4K, with an RTX 3080 you"ll be hovering at that threshold between good fps (50fps) and great fps (100+fps) in many newer games and that 10% speed bump from the RTX 3080 Ti could make all the difference in the world.

Woot has the Zotac GeForce RTX 3090 GPU for only $999.99. This is an outstanding price for one of the most powerful video cards available. On Amazon, the least expensive RTX 3090 GPU is over $1300. Although the RTX 3090 is a powerful gaming card (it"s about 10% more powerful than the RTX 3080 at 4K resolution), it"s actually not really intended for gamers. The RTX 3090 is the workstation GPU of choice not because of its processing power (which it has in spades), but because of the massive 24GB of GDDR6X RAM.

There"s a big price drop on inarguably the most powerful consumer video card on the market right now. The EVGA GeFroce RTX 3090 Ti GPU, which launched earlier in the year with an eye watering MSRP of $1999, has dropped $700 today to $1299. The RTX 3090 Ti is roughly 20% faster than the RTX 3080 and about 10% faster than the RTX 3090 at 4K resolutions and beyond. At under 4K resolutions, this card would be completely overkill.
