volvo v40 tft display factory
Used TFT clocks DIM from S/V60, XC60, S80II, XC/V70III made in the years 2014 to 2017 (the unit from V40 series can only be used in V40 cars - it has different mechanical shape than x60, x70, x80)
make sure that you located the TFT DIM that matches the transmission type of the target car - Automatic (PRND display) or Manual (+ Gear -) on the right side of the display. Diesel/petrol fuel type of the donor car does NOT matter.
2pcs original Volvo terminals for repair (P/N 30656697) or 2 used terminals from a white DIM Volvo connector which is a standard for all Volvos starting from 2005
Then press DECODE CEM. We must warn you this process can take up to 24 hours(but on average it usually does not take more than 12 hours). During the whole process you can interrupt the decoding process and continue later. If you do the CEM PIN decoding then you no longer need to do it again. Thanks to this you can also make other changes in the vehicle configuration including the TFT retrofit. After this process is done you will receive an email to the account you put in in the beginning.
Then choose CAR CONFIGURATION and then “Car configuration wizard”. Then you only need to choose the “TFT retrofit” wizard. Make sure DIM is connected.
2 new fixing wires (Volvo P/N 30656697 or used) must be connected to position 7 and 8 to the white DIM connector. Keep plugging in the wires into the “body” of the connector until you can hear them click properly. Then you just place and click in the blue thingy to its place. If the wires do not sit they are supposed to the blue thingy will not stick.
Connect DiCE again, turn the ignition key to position II and open VDASH again on your computer. Go to “Car configuration wizard” and choose TFT retrofit again.
VDASH will begin to look for the newly connected TFT DIM. If all wires are correctly plugged in, the update process will begin. If not then check the connecting of the wires again using the multimeter.
Your vehicle will restart itself many times during the process and at the end you will see a picture of the vehicle, the state of fuel and more. At the very beginning the incorrect measures can be displayed, but after a short trial run it should be fixed. The kilometres will also automatically reappear.
You can change and move the clock motivesonly when the engine is running (this does not have any specific explanation). The designated motive is Elegance(grey or brown). It is possible to reprogramme this motive to a blue version “R-design” (using car configuration > advanced settings > Advanced TFT DIM settings > Screen Skins > DIM: R-design menu), motives Ecoand Powerremain unchanged.
1. Temporarily disconnect newly connected cables from the white DIM connector, and connect the original DIM2. Start the engine (SCL the steering lock will now unlock)3. While the engine is running, disconnect the original DIM connector and reconnect the additional wiring, connect the TFT DIM4. Turn the engine off and lock the car5. SCL will NOT turn on again (unless you connect the original DIM). You will not observe any further immobilisation issues.
In the Volvo V40, the driver-centric approach is enhanced with a new, fully graphic instrument cluster that allows the driver to personalise instrument layout and the information provided.
The V40 is available with a new, fully graphic instrument cluster. This active TFT (Thin Film Transistor) crystal display brings the interaction between car and driver into a new dimension.
The instrument cluster expresses emotional functionality, always displaying the most important information in any given situation right in front of the driver.
The Eco theme features green background illumination, designed to create an environmentally inspired look. An Eco meter is displayed on the left. The current and accumulated fuel consumption figures are displayed - and the driver is rewarded with a green light when eco-driving is optimal.
The Performance theme has red background illumination, creating a sporty atmosphere. In the centre a tachometer scale replaces the speed scale displayed in the Elegance and Eco versions. Vehicle speed is shown digitally in the centre of the display. The right display includes a power meter - a gauge that informs the driver how much power is available and how much power is being used at any given moment in time.
In Volvo Sensus, all information is presented on a five-inch or seven-inch colour screen in the upper part of the instrument panel. The integrated screen makes it easy for the driver to keep his or her eyes on the road.
If the customer chooses a multimedia audio system, Volvo Sensus comes upgraded with the larger seven-inch screen that also displays information and images from the navigation system, phone, reversing camera, DVD player, digital TV and so on.
The Bluetooth connection has been upgraded to allow not only hands-free phone conversations but also music streaming from your preferred Bluetooth-enabled portable music player. Volvo is actually the only brand to offer Bluetooth music streaming throughout the entire vehicle range. Integrated navigation with voice commands is available as an option.
The all-new V40 is available with Electronic Climate Control. The system provides automatically controlled interior temperature and ventilation with individual settings for the driver and front seat passenger.
The optional navigation system is integrated into Volvo Sensus. The voice control function allows safe and convenient handsfree use. A new feature is the turn-by-turn guidance, which is presented to the driver in the instrument cluster"s centre dial.
The owner of an all-new Volvo V40 can use a mobile application to stay in touch with the parked car via a smart phone. The mobile application is an extension of Volvo On Call, which originally focused on direct access to a call centre in the event of an accident or other emergency.
Car check. The mobile app performs a "health" check of the car; displaying information about lights, brake fluid level, coolant level, oil level and oil pressure.
"The all-new V40 has the most intuitive driver interface ever in a Volvo. We believe that the ultimate luxury is to own a car that fits you, understands you and evolves together with you. You jump in behind the wheel for the first time. You take a look at the dashboard - and you find everything so functional and obvious that you are ready to take off directly."
"We have focused firmly on creating a solution that is easy to handle and that does not distract the driver from focusing on the road. Volvo is one of the few manufacturers to give the driver access to all infotainment functions via controls in the steering wheel. Our aim is that a high percentage of users will be able to handle these functions without having to use the owner"s manual."
"The new mobile application transforms Volvo On Call from an emergency system into a useful convenience feature. We are convinced that our ambitious plans in this connectivity field will help us attract more and more new customers in the future."
Hmm... after viewing some Youtube videos, it looks like the center TFT should just work with the stock connector. Looks like only the "eco", "power", and gear selection indicator don"t work out of the box. Looks like the Russian adapter fixes the gear selector display, at the minimum.

These are regular cars that looks and drives like an SUV but yet come with very few SUV penalties; such as weight and size. Volvo has certainly hit the Swede spot with its V40 Cross Country T4, which brings to us the very best of the S40 sedan and the V50 estate in one car.
Aesthetics wise, Volvo has got the formula right. The very thing that captures your attention first would be the very sporty looking bonnet with its cuts and creases, and the extremely rakish windscreen. Throw in unpainted plastic cladding that runs all round, faux scuff plates (front and rear) and sleek silver roof rails, what you get is a jacked up hatch back with an off-roader presence.Â
Some areas, like the floating centre console and the sculpted door-pads do provide a tinge of peppiness, but that’s as far as it goes. Some parts that really appeal to me are the transparent LED illuminated gear selector, massive full-length glass roof and the fully digital dashboard instrument cluster (which has a switchable colour mode function to suit your mood - see photos below) featuring a high resolution TFT screen. In terms of space, the V40 Cross Country T4 can comfortably seat four adults and carry a substantial amount of stuff with its 335 litres boot.
On the move, the V40 Cross Country T4’s 1.6-litre turbocharged engine churns out 180 hp and 240 Nm worth of torque (270 Nm when in overboost). When dashing off the blocks, the V40 Cross Country T4 hit"s 100 km/h in a respectable 8.5 seconds, with its power delivered to the wheels via a six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
With the car jacked up, many would assume that body roll would be much more pronounced in the V40 Cross Country, but the exact opposite is true. Round the bends, there is nary a hint of body roll, and it feels as if the car enjoys being driven with gusto.
Straight-line acceleration is linear and the car feels planted. The very things that make driving this Volvo spiritedly enjoyable are the brakes and steering. There is ample stopping power, with the brakes well served and a good amount of weight from the steering.
Packed with a slew of safety features, stylish design and excellent drive and handling, the V40 Cross Country is undoubtedly a very family oriented car. Volvo has certainly come a long way, and in the form of the V40 Cross Country T4, it is definitely style and substance rolled into one car!
There were two questions we were keen to answer when we drove Volvo’s new V40 Cross Country last week – how different is it to drive than a regular V40 ES? And, what does it offer to justify its premium price in the V40 range? I’ll come back to that last point a little later.
Apart from its rugged looks, the V40 Cross Country features a 40mm taller ride height, protective hard-wearing body panels, bigger wheels and tyres (up to 19-inches) and all-wheel drive on the top-of-the-range T5.
Unlike the estate-only V70 Cross Country which started the trend in 1997, the V40 is a compact hatchback, which might cause a bit of confusion as to who it’s intended for.
It’s certainly nowhere near as practical as the V70 (Now XC70), but like its larger sibling the V40 Cross Country will excel over the standard car in its ability to tackle unmade roads or when loaded up with a family of four’s ski gear. Try fitting snow chains to a conventional sports hatch when its full of people and luggage and you’ll know what I mean.
As with the R-Design, the Cross Country is available with every engine in the V40 range – except the 148bhp petrol-powered T3. Prices range from £22,595 for the 113bhp D2 SE up to £33,875 for the T5 LUX, although the car we tested would retail at £40,425 (as fitted with; Driver Support Pack – £1,850, Park Assist Pilot – £850, Premium Sound Multimedia – £800, 18″ Mefitis Wheels – £700, Inscription Paint – £750, Power Driver Seat – £600, Winter Lux Pack – £375, Active TFT Display – £350, Tempa – £150, Flexible Load Floor – £100, PACOS – £25, Side Scuff Plates – tbc).
If you’re taken by the V40 Cross Country’s looks then let yourself be tempted by the optional 19-inch Alecto wheels – you’ll score 11/10 with the neighbours’ kids, although we’re less confident about their impact on the V40’s ride comfort. Still, for looks alone, their smoked rims with body-coloured highlights will get your V40 Cross Country noticed.
Despite costing £1,000 more than the equivalent SE model, Volvo expect the Cross Country to account for 11% of all V40 sales in the UK, with the R-Design accounting for a further 25% of sales.
The V40 Cross Country gains a range of 13 exterior colours, including the distinctive Raw Copper you can see in the video below. Our test car was painted Inscription Electric Silver with Charcoal Leather, which suits the tough-on-the-streets look of the V40 Cross Country with its contrasting silver and black trim.
Like the R-Design, the changes add a welcome dose of assertiveness to the otherwise timid-looking V40, which makes the friendly Swede seem more German – make of that what you will, but it’s an attractive and cohesive package that we’d recommend purely on its looks alone. If toughening up the V40 is top of your list of improvements, then look no further than the Cross Country.
From a purely practical standpoint you’d probably choose the smaller 17-inch wheels on a V40 Cross Country, but larger wheels suit its butch styling, so don’t play too conservatively with your choice.
If you’re downsizing to a V40, the Cross Country adds a welcome dose of road presence which you might appreciate if stepping out of BMW 3 Series. It’s still a compact premium hatch – lower in the range than a V60, but its rugged looks lend it a unique appeal.
If you’re looking for a V40 fitted with Volvo’s 2.5-litre turbocharged engine, then the T5 Cross Country is the one to choose. Unlike the T5 R-Design, the Cross Country is fitted with all-wheel drive as standard. It also uses the regular V40’s power steering system, rather than the nervous rack on the T5 R-Design. The result is a car which can deploy all 250 of its brake horsepower, and flow smoothly between corners without the R-Design’s fluster.
You’re still saddled with Volvo’s 6-speed Geartronic auto transmission (with no choice of a manual), but at least it suits the Cross Country’s more relaxed demeanour.
Volvo claim 34.0 mpg (combined) for the Cross Country which compares with 35.8 mpg in the R-Design model, while CO2 emissions increase to 194g/km from 185g/km in the T5 R-Design.
Ignore the naysayers who moan about a lack of steering feel – feel is overrated – the V40 has one of the sweetest steering systems on the market, letting you get on with driving without overloading you with unnecessary feedback.
First and foremost, you can tell the difference – there’s a few degrees more movement before the chassis settles, but not so you’d alter your driving style. The standard V40 sits quite low, so despite riding up to 40mm higher (depending on engine and wheels) the Cross Country only looks around 10-15mm higher than most conventional hatchbacks.
As we said earlier on, the Cross Country isn’t just a jacked-up V40, Volvo’s engineers have lengthened the front wheel spindles by 20mm, while modifying the subframe bushings. At the rear, the link arms and track rods have been modified together with changes to the shock absorbers, springs, anti-roll bars and rear subframe.
Overall, you’ll notice the difference between a V40 Cross Country and a regular ES, but there are no penalties to its higher ride and you might even prefer its slightly more relaxed demeanour.
Fitting a 250bhp engine plus all-wheel drive into a compact hatchback used to suggest a Subaru Impreza rival – that’s not the case with this V40 T5 Cross Country – although I’ve no doubt you’d have plenty of fun on a slippery roundabout. Instead, the V40 T5 Cross Country is all about safe, secure and confident progress regardless of road conditions.
If you’re looking for the most effortless Volvo V40, then the all-wheel drive T5 Cross Country certainly fits the bill. Our test route featured lots of greasy back-roads which the Cross Country tackled (at speed) with aplomb.
Whether this taints the Cross Country’s image (when it reaches the second hand market) only time will tell, because if you’re an Equine enthusiast, a regular on the ski slopes or have a driveway littered with pot-holes, you’ll find plenty to like about the V40 Cross Country.
We’ve marked the Cross Country down slightly, purely for its lack of all-wheel drive (except in the T5), otherwise Volvo’s latest V40 variant offers precisely what you’d expect – a more versatile take on Volvo’s impressive V40 hatchback.
Volvo’s Cross Country formula makes for a more appealing V40, even if the virtues which will appeal the most are purely aesthetic. Unless you’re a hard-nosed petrolhead the Cross Country may just be the best V40 variant yet, with no discernable downside to its slightly elevated ride height.
The V40 T5, in the specification we tested, starts to look pricey alongside other premium all-wheel drive hatchbacks such as Audi’s S3 (c.£31,000) and Volkswagen’s Golf R, but neither of these offer the Cross Country’s off-tarmac prowess. Audi’s 2.0 TFSI Q3 and BMW’s X1 xDrive 25d lack the V40 T5’s performance, and weigh nearly 200kg more, so will appeal to a different kind of customer.
The first time you see a V40 Cross Country on the road you’ll look twice – it’s visual appeal is that obvious – but so is its driving appeal once behind the wheel. While it may lack the sharper dynamics of an R-Design model, it turns in cleanly, feels unflappably poised and is an easy car to live with on British roads. We’d opt for the £28,045 D4 Lux.

The S60 is a very able car, which goes about doing its job in a very composed manner. Even though we would have liked the new engine lineup, the existing one does a good job. The car is impressive in its ride quality and its performance on the highway. The new TFT display brightens up the interiors and makes it a nice place to be in. For a car built like a tank, its safety specs are top notch.
When compared to the BMV 3 Series, the Audi A4 and the Mercedes C Class, it may fall a tad short in terms of sportiness but it is a very likeable car. At prices ranging between Rs. 29. 90 lakh to Rs 35. 50 lakh, the S60 is a very compelling buy.
