In 2007, a young company SPL-LAB was created from the group of engineers, after six months of development, the first sound pressure meter in Russia was presented with a dynamic range up to 180 dB - USB Bass Meter. In parallel with the development of the instrument, the first version of the Measuring Center software for Windows was created. Many car audio competition formats have chosen USB Bass Meter and other Bass Meter devices as official gauges.

2009 was the year of the first measurement USB microphone for measuring the frequency response - USB RTA Meter. Since then, Spl-Lab has entered the market of professional audio systems for high-quality sound.

In the following years, Spl-Lab was actively developing new sound pressure meters and microphones for measuring the frequency response, improving and expanding the functionality. The versions of the Measuring Center software for Android and iOS platforms were released.

In 2013, we added the Smart Voltmeter automotive voltmeter and the Smart Monitor volt-ampere voltage meter to the product range. Thus began to produce electrical measuring instruments.

In 2018, after a long and complicated development, the first car acceleration meter was released - the Race Meter, which has already managed to establish itself with the best side among race drivers and tuning fans.

This is a seriously sleek and modern alternative to traditional gauges for SquareBody owners! The AutoMeter 7004 InVision puts digital gauges on a 12.3 inch LCD screen; this is just the answer to update Square Body Chevy and GMC Trucks, Suburbans, and Blazers with a modern look and feel in the dash. We won"t argue "What is a Square Body Chevy" here so we will just say that this fits 1973-1987 Chevrolet / GMC C/K Series and 1988-1991 Chevy / GMC R/V Series Trucks, Blazers, and Suburbans (NOT 1988+ C/K Series!!!). Finally we have an awesome modern alternative for EFI conversions and Square Body LS swap guys (and gals) that want a dash as modern as their powertrain swap! This dash panel and display won Best New Interior Product at SEMA and it deserves it! It is a direct-fit digital dash system and requires no destructive modification, cutting, or drilling of your squarebody dash! Since this is a purely digital display, we anticipate AutoMeter releasing more custom displays, functionality, and perhaps even a "layout designer" at some point; although they did not 100% confirm the plans for it, they said it "has been discussed" when we asked them about it at SEMA.

Speedometer compatible with OEM VSS (when equipped), square wave, or sine wave sending units (may be an optionally required part depending on your application)

Monitors speed (with VSS, may require optional sending unit such as the AutoMeter 5291), tachometer, fuel level, oil pressure, water temperature, and volts all in a high resolution and colorful LCD display

Digital Panel meters are available in LED or LCD display. LED (Light Emitting Diode) displays are the easiest to see even in small character heights and are available in color. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) can be either unlighted transflective that depends on ambient lighting or Backlighted and can be hard to read at certain angles & lighting. Since Digital Panel meters actually measure voltage in discrete steps, all inputs must be scaled to match the full count range of the meter. A 3 digit Digital Panel Meter has a count range to 0-999 where a 3-1/2 digit doubles the count to 1999 for very little extra electronics. Scaling for the Digital Panel Meters is accomplished by using a Voltage divider usually dividing down the input by a factor of 10, 100, 1000 although there are other factors used.

Most Digital Panel Meters have a basic input based on the max count such as 99.9mV for a 3 digit, 199.9mV for a 3-1/2 digit etc. by using the input voltage divider the meter can be display full scale of 9.99V or 99.9V or more. Accuracy and resolution is dependant on the Analog to Digital Conversion process that controls the minimum voltage difference between the least valued digit. Digital Panel meters used to display current have a fixed resistor called a Shunt. The voltage drop developed across this known resistance is then converted and displayed. The Shunt can be either internal or external. AC Digital Panel Meters work much the same way with the exception that the AC voltage is first converted to a DC. Signals from low level sources such as thermocouples and strain guage require a amplifier to bring the input to a readable level. Some uses require meters that are not standard or would have hazardous inputs. In this case we use Scaling resistors, voltage dividers, Current Shunts (DC Amps), Current Transformers (CT AC Amps) or Potential Transformers (PT AC Volts) to set the input to the Digital Panel Meter specifications.

Liquid-crystal-display televisions (LCD TVs) are television sets that use liquid-crystal displays to produce images. They are, by far, the most widely produced and sold television display type. LCD TVs are thin and light, but have some disadvantages compared to other display types such as high power consumption, poorer contrast ratio, and inferior color gamut.

LCD TVs rose in popularity in the early years of the 21st century, surpassing sales of cathode ray tube televisions worldwide in 2007.plasma display panels and rear-projection television.

Passive matrix LCDs first became common as portable computer displays in the 1980s, competing for market share with plasma displays. The LCDs had very slow refresh rates that blurred the screen even with scrolling text, but their light weight and low cost were major benefits. Screens using reflective LCDs required no internal light source, making them particularly well suited to laptop computers. Refresh rates of early devices were too slow to be useful for television.

Portable televisions were a target application for LCDs. LCDs consumed far less battery power than even the miniature tubes used in portable televisions of the era. In 1980, Hattori Seiko"s R&D group began development on color LCD pocket televisions. In 1982, Seiko Epson released the first LCD television, the Epson TV Watch, a small wrist-worn active-matrix LCD television. Sharp Corporation introduced the dot matrix TN-LCD in 1983, and Casio introduced its TV-10 portable TV.Citizen Watch introduced the Citizen Pocket TV, a 2.7-inch color LCD TV, with the first commercial TFT LCD display.

Throughout this period, screen sizes over 30" were rare as these formats would start to appear blocky at normal seating distances when viewed on larger screens. LCD projection systems were generally limited to situations where the image had to be viewed by a larger audience. At the same time, plasma displays could easily offer the performance needed to make a high quality display, but suffered from low brightness and very high power consumption. Still, some experimentation with LCD televisions took place during this period. In 1988, Sharp introduced a 14-inch active-matrix full-color full-motion TFT-LCD. These were offered primarily as high-end items, and were not aimed at the general market. This led to Japan launching an LCD industry, which developed larger-size LCDs, including TFT computer monitors and LCD televisions. Epson developed the 3LCD projection technology in the 1980s, and licensed it for use in projectors in 1988. Epson"s VPJ-700, released in January 1989, was the world"s first compact, full-color LCD projector.

In 2006, LCD prices started to fall rapidly and their screen sizes increased, although plasma televisions maintained a slight edge in picture quality and a price advantage for sets at the critical 42" size and larger. By late 2006, several vendors were offering 42" LCDs, albeit at a premium price, encroaching upon plasma"s only stronghold. More decisively, LCDs offered higher resolutions and true 1080p support, while plasmas were stuck at 720p, which made up for the price difference.

Predictions that prices for LCDs would rapidly drop through 2007 led to a "wait and see" attitude in the market, and sales of all large-screen televisions stagnated while customers watched to see if this would happen.Christmas sales season.

When the sales figures for the 2007 Christmas season were finally tallied, analysts were surprised to find that not only had LCD outsold plasma, but CRTs as well, during the same period.Pioneer Electronics was ending production of the plasma screens was widely considered the tipping point in that technology"s history as well.

In spite of LCD"s dominance of the television field, other technologies continued to be developed to address its shortcomings. Whereas LCDs produce an image by selectively blocking a backlight, organic LED, microLED, field-emission display and surface-conduction electron-emitter display technologies all produce an illuminated image directly. In comparison to LCDs all of these technologies offer better viewing angles, much higher brightness and contrast ratio (as much as 5,000,000:1), and better color saturation and accuracy. They also use less power, and in theory they are less complex and less expensive to build.

The 2022 5-Series possesses the same advanced technologies as previous 5-Series versions. The full-array LED backlight uses local dimming to achieve a better black level and overall dynamic range, which is the cornerstone of any good digital image. Although this year’s 5-Series boasts fewer zones of local dimming than in the previous model, TCL has refined the local-dimming operation enough that the TV consistently provides satisfying black levels while also getting bright enough to combat ambient light from lamps and windows. During my testing, I measured black levels as low as 0.025 nit coupled with peak brightness just shy of 700 nits (during HDR playback), both of which are excellent results for a TV in this price range.

If you’re interested in HDR video or HDR games, the 5-Series supports the most popular HDR formats: HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision. Not only does it have the brightness to create satisfying HDR images, but also its color is enhanced by quantum dots to provide notable improvements to red and green primary colors. While watching Edge of Tomorrow in Dolby Vision side by side on the TCL 5-Series and the Hisense U6H, I paused the opening scene of Tom Cruise lying in a helicopter with the sun streaming through the window, and I asked my wife which TV looked better. She said that the window on the U6H gave the impression of light, while the window on the 5-Series looked like actual light—a telling-enough explanation of the two TVs’ brightness and uniformity differences. The 5-Series can’t produce the full gamut of HDR colors, and it isn’t as accurate while playing HDR content as pricier LCD TVs we’ve tested—but it comes close.

Even if you don’t care that much about features like local dimming, quantum dots, and HDR format compatibility (though you should care about them), the 5-Series is still the budget 4K TV to buy thanks to the intuitive nature of its Roku TV smart platform. Navigating the (admittedly very familiar) Roku interface was a breeze in our tests, and because most apps allow you to sign in via QR code, it was also a snap for us to log in to Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, and so on. Although Roku isn’t as smart-home friendly as our runner-up’s Google TV platform, Roku offers just what most people look for in a smart TV: a simple layout that provides quick access to almost any streaming app you could want. It’s also AirPlay 2 compatible, and it can work hands-free with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Siri—though the included remote doesn’t have a built-in microphone, so you need an intermediary smart device or Roku’s Voice Remote Pro to take full advantage of those features.

Like the previous version, the 2022 5-Series comes in 50-, 55-, 65-, and 75-inch screen sizes, and each model boasts four HDMI 2.1 inputs, with one reserved for eARC to send high-quality audio, including Dolby Atmos, from the TV to your soundbar or AV receiver. The design features two feet that you can mount either toward the middle of the panel or out toward the edges (on the larger sizes), which is a nice perk considering the inherent variability in the width of home TV stands. Because it has a panel with full-array local dimming, this is not the thinnest of TVs and wouldn’t disappear on a wall—but you can’t find that kind of design in this price range unless it’s an edge-lit TV, and those tend to have poor picture quality. Overall, the latest 5-Series feels well built and reliable, and we have no concerns about its long-term durability.

As for picture quality, the 5-Series’s biggest flaw is that its brightness sometimes outstrips its local-dimming abilities, creating a bit of bloom or glow around bright objects situated in darkness (such as the moon in a dark sky) or brightening its letterbox bars in 16:9 content. This effect is only slightly perceptible when you’re viewing the TV head-on, but it becomes more distracting during off-angle viewing, when you’re sitting to either side of the screen. You can eliminate the glow by turning down the backlight, but the TV’s brightness is one of its key strengths, so we don’t necessarily recommend that. The TV’s overall viewing angle is fine, but it suffers from the usual contrast loss and color shift associated with LCD TVs.
