4K Technology (also known in parts of Asia as 4K2K) is the latest development in extra sharp displays, usually TFT LCDs. Its name is derived from the resolution: roughly 4,000 by 2,000 pixels. To put that into perspective, 4K crams the equivalent of four 1080p high resolution panels, or about a quarter of the pixel density of an IMAX movie, into one display.
By combining this ultra HD image with a standard 16:9 ratio, manufacturers are able to achieve a picture that looks clear, crisp and sharp, especially up close. 4K also offers improved color fidelity and the option to produce a higher rate of frames per second for extremely realistic image reproduction.

The monitor comes with a 15.6 inch 4K widescreen TFT LCD that supports 300-nit brightness, 800:1 contrast ratio, 16.7 million colors, and a viewing angle of 89° vertically and horizontally. The video input incorporates DP 1.2 (3840 x 2160, 60Hz) and HDMI 2.0 (3840 x 2160, 60Hz) / 4.0 (3840 x 2160, 30Hz) video input signals and offers on-screen display allowing users to adjust display characteristics or select viewing options with a touch of a button. The panel housing comes with a 6mm aluminum front bezel and has the option for IP65 sealed protection against dust and water. This rugged panel monitor is ready for panel or VESA mounting that will fit into any of your applications. The internal power supply module includes an external 110/240V AC power adapter with an option for 12/24/48V DC power input. The display has a built-in MNA decoder, which means that it can be seamlessly integrated into an existing Nexxis architecture, just like any other Nexxis source. In a Nexxis configuration, the monitor is compatible with the most common 3D and 2D video formats typical of modern microscopes and laparoscopic camera systems. 3D sources become part of the full integration, including support for inter-OR sharing, remote management, streaming and recording.
The display is based on a circular polarization technology for 3D visualization with passive glasses. Thanks to the Nexxis integration, it automatically switches between 2D and 3D modes to show the video source in its best suitable format.
In 3D mode, multiple users at the same time will be able to see the image with excellent depth perception and no visual discomfort in a large viewing area. The Blackmagic Design SmartView 4K 2 is a professional 15.6″ TFT LCD monitor with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 and two multi-rate 12G-SDI inputs. The inputs automatically switch between SD, HD, and 4K formats, including up to DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) at 60 fps. An SMPTE-compatible optical fiber socket enables you to add a separate module for SDI fiber input.
The Blackmagic Design SmartView 4K 2 machined metal frame provides built-in control buttons for access to advanced broadcast features including 3D LUTs, H/V delay, blue channel only, and customizable frame markers. The chassis is rack-mountable (6 RU) and also has VESA mounting holes for installation on articulating arms.
When monitoring SD, 720p, or 1080p SDI sources, the built-in Teranex processor uses Blackmagic’s PixelMotion algorithms to automatically deinterlace and scale video up to UHD 4K. A 12G-SDI loop-through output is provided for sending your input signal to an additional device. Dual 3D LUT support lets you customize color for on-set grading and monitoring.
