Obviously a screen like this needs high-end audio to back it up, and every 7 Series comes standard with an 18-speaker, 655-watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system. But what you really want is the optional 4D Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound system, which packs 36 speakers in total and a 1,965-watt amplifier. When the Theater Screen isn"t in use, it folds into the roof, just looking like a thick cross bar dividing the glass. This isn"t just some regular ol" panoramic sunroof, though. The 7 Series comes standard with what BMW calls the Panoramic Sky Lounge, a single fixed piece of glass spanning the entire roof that has built-in LED light threads. The pattern of the lights mirrors the quilting on the seats, and the color can be configured to an individual scheme or matched to the selected My Mode environment. There are also animations such as a welcome effect when you step into the car, or one that BMW says "intensifies the feeling of acceleration" when the car is in motion. The back seat experience is mega important for a large luxury sedan like the 7 Series, especially in markets like China where being driven around by a chauffeur is way more common than the US -- and BMW expects around 70% of new 7 Series sales to be in China. To that end, the less digital aspects of the 7 Series" cabin look just as nice. When fitted with the Executive Lounge package the rear seats get massage functions and can recline up to 42.5 degrees, and they also have adjustable neck cushions, heated arm rests and a fold-out glass infotainment controller. The seat behind the front passenger has an integrated, extendable calf rest, and the front seat has a heel rest and can be moved and reclined all the way forward to give the rear passenger as much room as possible. The 7 Series also is offered with a fabulous mix of wool and cashmere upholstery, as well as sumptuous leather.
Look, I love driving, but there are so many times on long road trips when I just want to kick my feet up and relax while someone else slogs through hundreds of boring highway miles. And the Theater Screen will be available on the fully electric i7 version of the new 7 Series, too, which makes it the ultimate solution for what to do when you have to stop and charge. The 7 Series and i7 will go on sale at the end of the year, with the Theater Screen costing around $5,000.

BMW has developed the first fully electric 3 series vehicle — but it will only be available in China. In May 2022, the BMW i3 eDrive35L model that"s based on the automaker"s line of compact cars, will enter the Chinese market. It uses BMW"s 5th-gen eDrive powertrain that"s also found in the BMW iX3, BMW i4 and BMW iX. The four-door sedan will also be the first 3 Series car with the company"s OS8 operating system and its features, including Digital Key, which turns the owner"s smartphone into a key for their vehicle.
In its announcement, BMW also shared some key data about the EV, including its 281 horsepower max output and 295 pound-feet of maximum torque. It can apparently go from zero to 62 mph in 6.2 seconds, and it can reach a charge of 80 percent within 35 minutes of being plugged in. Fully charged, it has an estimated range of 327 miles, which is longer than that of the basic BMW i4"s.
The automaker says the 3 Series line led the premium-compact segment in China in 2021, so releasing an electrified version in the region makes sense for the company. BMW even even fine-tuned and customized the EV"s suspension system for Chinese road conditions and will assemble the vehicle at a plant in Lydia, Shenyang.
The i3 eDrive35L EV is BMW"s sixth all—electric model. Similar to rival automakers that are aiming to make a complete shift towards electric vehicles over the coming 10 to 20 years, BMW also ramped up its electrification goals last year. It announced that the last Mini with a combustion engine will be released in 2025 and that it expects its all-electric vehicles to account for 50 percent of its global sales by 2030.
The German automaker is of course headquartered on the outskirts of Munich and has a large production facility and museum there. Evidently, BMW decided to recently conduct some testing of the vehicle on the cold, snow-covered roads of Munich before sales in China commence. Either that or a BMW employee has a new company car.
No confirmation has been given as to when production of the 1-Series Sedan will begin but we know the car will be manufactured exclusively in Shenyang, China with BMW’s joint venture partner, Brilliance Auto.
Just replaced my navigation LCD screen with one from Ebay for $130 shipped (seller was in Minnesota). I had a constant yellow hue and one spot of dead pixels.
My original screen was a 51U. I cannot tell a difference externally from the two LCDs. For some reason they cover up the "SHARP Made in Japan" stamping with stickers that say "Made in China".
No dead pixels on the new LCD, but my image was shifted off about 1 cm to the right. Bummer. Had to disassemble the whole thing and then reassemble with the LCD hanging by the ribbon cable so I could adjust the H-POS potentiometer on the back-side. I also noticed some ghosting, but adjusting the VCO potentiometer solved that issue.

After Tesla’s Gigafactory 3 deal and BMW announcing its electric iX3 production in China for exports, the German automaker adds another deal to the list today: the electric Mini.
An all-electric Mini is arguably the most long overdue electric vehicle. Not only it’s an ideal segment to electrify due to its size and functionalities, but BMW’s early EV program, the Mini-E, BMW’s first EV concept, was based on the Mini.
Back in 2008, they actually converted hundreds of Mini vehicles with all-electric drivetrains. The program led to the BMW i3, but never to an electric Mini for some reason.
Last year, BMW unveiled an electric Mini concept in preparation for the production version and to tease us even more, the German automaker unveiled an all-electric version of the classic Mini a few months ago.
The production version of the electric vehicle is expected to come rolling off the production line at the brand’s main plant in Oxford next year, but now BMW adds another manufacturing facility to the electric Mini program through a new joint-venture in China.

The BMW iX3 is a battery electric compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW. It was presented at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show in April as the battery electric version of the BMW X3 (G01).BMW i family and the first battery electric BMW SUV.
The production version of the BMW iX3 was unveiled in July 2020. It has an 80 kWh battery pack with 73.83 kWhWLTP. The iX3 is powered by a single electric motor on the rear axle that produces 210 kW (282 hp) and accelerates from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 6.8 seconds. It has an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph).
It features adaptive flat LED headlights, 19-inch bi-color wheels, three-dimensional LED taillights, it also features a BMW Live Cockpit Professional along with a 12-inch digital display and a 12-inch central touch screen and leather seats.
The electric powertrain is BMW"s fifth-generation scalable electric drivetrain that is distinguished by a more compact design than that used by the existing BMW i3 with the electric motor, transmission, and power electrics grouped together in a single component. It does not feature rare-earth materials in its construction and allows BMW to significantly reduce production costs over the old model.
The seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series consists of the BMW G30 (sedan version) and BMW G31 (wagon version, marketed as "Touring") executive cars. The G30/G31 has been produced since 2016 by the German automaker BMW and is often collectively referred to as the G30. It was officially announced on 12 October 2016 and sales began in February 2017.
On 27 May 2020, a facelifted 5 Series was unveiled. Although the 2021 BMW 5 Series is 1.2 inches longer than the 2020 model, many of the vehicle"s other dimensions remain unchanged despite the styling redesign.

BMW laserlight headlights are high-beam technology that not only delivers a brighter beam but adapts to the environment. Laser headlights function by using three small blue lasers pointed at a set of mirrors in the front of the headlight system. The mirrors focus the laser light into a lens filled with yellow phosphorus. Yellow phosphorus when excited by the blue laser emits an intense white light.
With the 530e, BMW also began an experimental wireless charging program. Testing was originally limited to Germany, but expanded other markets such as California. The system uses a 3.2 kW wireless charging pad that the car could drive over to charge the lithium-ion battery pack.
For the 2020 model year, BMW increased the lithium-ion battery capacity by about 30% to 12.0 kWh with 10.8 kWh usable. With the increase in battery size, the EPA estimated all-electric range increased to 21 miles for the rear-wheel drive version and 19 miles for the xDrive version.
In December 2020, for the 2021 model year, BMW released the 545e xDrive, a more powerful plug-in variant. As opposed to the turbocharged inline-four engine in the 530e, the 545e xDrive uses a more powerful turbocharged inline-six engine paired with an electric motor. Total power output is 290 kW / 394 hp and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.
The G30 5 Series underwent a facelift and reveal in May 2020 (also called Life Cycle Impulse) in BMW Driving Center, South Korea. It was planned to be revealed at the 2020 Busan Motor Show, but was delayed due to its cancellation for the COVID-19 pandemic in South Korea. Exterior changes include redesigned front and rear bumper along with new headlights and taillights and a sharper kidney grille design. The daytime running lights have been redesigned, now having a simplified L shape instead of the octagonal shape of the pre-facelift model, making the headlights slimmer. Adaptive LED headlights (previously a cost option) are fitted as standard (in some markets) with buyers having the option to specify the car with matrix LED or laser headlamps. The front bumper is designed to be more angular with the standard models featuring triangular corner air inlets flanking the center inlet, and the M Sport models getting larger intakes and a U-shaped contour leading into the headlights, similar to the 3 Series.
On the interior, the basic dashboard design is retained with the biggest highlight being the new touchscreen infotainment system featuring the BMW iDrive 7.0 having over-the-air updates, Personal Assistant Voice Control, integrated Apple Car Play and Android Auto and BMW maps, which is a cloud-based navigation system featuring real-time traffic updates and an improved search function. The infotainment screen measures 10.25-inch as standard but with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional system (which is standard in some markets), measures 12.3-inches. The 5 Series now features the Parking assist system shared with the 3 Series, it has a Reversing Assistant function that enables the car to backtrack where it came from. On top of this, the Parking Assistant Professional incorporates the new Drive Recorder function that can record up to 40 seconds of footage using various cameras.

Designed exclusively for the Chinese market, BMW has debuted its new 1 Series sedan at the Guangzhou Auto Show. It"s the smallest car the company has ever built, and is aimed directly at the "young generation from China," says senior of sales and marketing Jochen Goller – but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in amenities and overall performance.
Inside, the 1 Series features an 8.8-inch central LED screen that utilizes BMW’s iDrive system. Paired along with it is a full-color heads-up display, dual-zone climate control, leather trim, and a number of other optional features.
Riding on the two-year-old UKL platform, it shares its bones with cars like the Mini Cooper, BMW X1, and others. When it hits the market, it will come with a range of engine options, including a 136-horsepower (101-kilowatt) 1.5-liter turbo in the 118i base trim, a 192-horsepower (143-kilowatt) 2.0-liter turbo in the 120i Luxury trim, and a 231-horsepower (173-kilowatt) 2.0-liter turbo in the top-end 125i Sport trim. All trims will be available with either a six-speed manual gearbox, or an eight-speed automatic.
The new BMW 1 Series is expected to go on sale in China exclusively in the first half of next year. It will compete locally with cars like the Audi A3, Volvo S40, Citroen DS5, and others. Starting price will range from¥180,000 to ¥260,000 ($26,100-$37,720).
A few days ago, an electric version of the BMW 3 Series was spotted in China. It is quite a surprise. However, it fits BMW’s strategy of having 25 electric cars by 2023 and converting old ICE cars into EVs. According to BMW’s naming conventions, it should be called i3, but BMW’s 2013 first EV has this badge. So Chinese media speculate the new car’s name will be BMW i3L. Let’s use it as a code name for now.
Even through heavy camouflage, we can tell it will feature BMW’s front kidney grille. As EV’s doesn’t have a combustion engine to cool, it is obviously only a matter of brand recognition. The grill is, of course, closed-off. Otherwise, it would make no sense in terms of aerodynamics.
Some analysts say BMW was too early to EV race as they launched the fully electric i3 in 2013. Since then, we didn’t see much effort from the Munich-based automaker. It changed recently as BMW started an EV offensive and introduced fully electric SUVs iX3, iX, and later sedan i4. The i3L would be its fifth EV.
Interestingly, BMW seems to outsource a significant part of its electrification efforts to its Chinese joint venture with state-owned automaker Brilliance. For example, its first fully electric SUV – BMW iX3 – was introduced at Beijing Auto Show in 2018 and started mass production in China in 2020. This Chinese-made iX3 was then exported to Europe and North American market in 2021.
According to spy photos, the new EV will be based on BMW 3, thus not being a purpose-built electric car, but only an EV build on a platform dedicated to an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle. It is expected the BMW i3L will share the same powertrain setup as iX3. In this case, it would be rear-drive with a maximum power of 210kW and peak torque 400Nm and battery 74kWh providing range up to 500km. It will be unveiled in Q1 2022 and start mass production in summer 2022.
The spy photos don’t show much, but we can see that the interior will feature a large LCD screen. Also, the rear exhausts are missing, which we are happy to see as more Chinese automakers seem to enjoy this bad habit and keep exhausts on fully electric cars. On the side of the car, we can also see the sign Electric Test Vehicle.
As BMW didn’t yet confirm this car’s existence, it is hard to guess if it will be available outside China as the previous iX3. Still, following the BMW EV strategy, it is highly probable, and we will definitely keep an eye on that.
