Apple works with a wide range of suppliers to make millions of units of iPhones, iPads, and other products. And when it comes to displays, it has been a while since the company has been using Samsung OLED displays for the iPhone. According to a recent
The report mentions that Apple has ordered more than 120 million OLED panels for the iPhone 14 lineup. Of these, Samsung is expected to supply Apple with 80 million OLED displays. Other OLED panel suppliers to Apple include LG Display and BOE, which are expected to ship 20 million units and six million units respectively.
Samsung has a clear advantage against its competitors. While LG only provides LTPS displays for the iPhone 14 and LTPO for the iPhone 14 Pro Max, BOE only provides LTPS displays for the regular iPhone 14. Samsung, on the other hand, supplies panels for every iPhone 14 model.
The Elec also mentions that of the 80 million units shipped by Samsung, at least 60 million will be destined for the high-end iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models. The main reason why Samsung is the leading supplier of OLED displays to Apple is that other companies like LG have been facing problems in production.
Even though Apple has just released iPhone 14, the company has already been working on the next generation of its smartphone – which is also expected to use OLED displays. More than that, recent reports have revealed that Apple plans to introduce a new iPhone SE in 2024. In addition to a new design, it may also feature a 6.1-inch OLED display.

Apple seems to have big plans for 2021. Word is that the company is planning to ship around 180 million iPhones next year for which Samsung will be supplying a majority of the OLED display panels.
Apple"s iPhone 12 series consists of four iPhone models all of which come with an OLED display. The company is expected to ship around 100 million units of its iPhone 12 series this year. Next year, as mentioned before, the company is likely to ship between 160 million to 180 million iPhone units, which includes both iPhone 12 series smartphones and the iPhone 13 seriessmartphones that will be launched next year.
As per a reportby The Elec, Samsung Display will be supplying around 140 million OLED display panels. Rest of the demand is expected to be fulfilled by LG Display and BOE. While LD Display is expected to provide around 30 million OLED panels, BOE is expected to provide OLED displays for 10 million iPhone units. The two companies, however, expect to provide over 40 million and around 20 million OLED panels respectively.
Lastly, the report says that Apple will be using LPTO TFT OLED panels in its iPhone models next year. This technology is needed to get the screens to achieve a refresh rate of 120Hz. Now, the report says that BOE remains behind in LPTO TFT display technology compared to LG Display and Samsung Display and hence its fate remains uncertain for now.

And here we are, in early 2023, when the display manufacturer could be on track to become the largest OLED panel supplier for the iPhone 16 generation, Ming-Chi Kuo expects. Roughly a year ago, it was revealed that BOE could have also been locked in as the main supplier for LTPO OLED displays for the iPhone 15 family in 2023. That"s a rather big deal as LG and mostly Samsung were chosen as the go-to suppliers of LTPO displays with variable refresh rate for the iPhone 13 Pro/13 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro/iPhone 14 Pro Max, but it seems that BOE would seriously step up this year.
Speaking of the iPhone 15 generation, early rumors call for a Dynamic Island on the base-level iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which would bring the new hole-punch design to the whole squad, but it"s rather unlikely that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will get high-refresh screens, those will likely remain exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra. Some other rumored features for the full iPhone 15 lineup include 48MP main cameras on the whole lineup, as well as USB-C possibly succeeding the decade-old Lightning connector.
