If you are suffering from a "stage light effect" at the bottom of the screen or a black screen when the screen is opened at a certain angle this not an LCD Panel fault. This fault is called flexgate which is a design fault that effects 2016 and 2017 MacBooks. Please see our Flexgate repair page for more information.

While your Screen is apart we will inspect the LED Backlight cable and the webcam cable. If they are the shorter version we will solder in the revised brand new longer cables to prevent the flexgate desigh fault.

Original Apple Backlight films and diffusers can be used keeping the screen bright white. Replacement screen assemblies usually have a yellower hue to them.

No Issues with ALS sensor. The ambient light sensor is used to turn the keyboard backlight on. If this sensor is missing as it quite often is from replacement screen assemblies the keyboard backlight will never turn on automatically.

Original screens are built by robots in a dust free factory. We are doing this manually by hand and when the screens are opened there is a high chance of dust and marks occurring on the very delicate backlight films and diffusers. A dust particle can be magnified through the diffusers which can appear on a bright white screen.

Theoretically we can fix other faults with these screens too. Sometimes mistakingly called flexgate (flexgate is only a backlight fault) - if flickering or coloured bands appear on the screen only when the screen is opened at a certain angle this could be caused by the 2 x thick flex cables failing.

We can also replace TCON LCD Control boards. Sometimes after liquid damage they get hit with corrosion as they are located in the main body of the MacBook.

There are a lot of different manufacturing codes for just the screen, as long as you search for "A1502 2014 LCD" (2013-2014 compatible, 2015 won"t work) and look for the LCD panels, you will find it.

Be warned, this repair is extremely difficult, and if you have no experience, you will mess up. If you shatter the screen too much when removing, the LCD liquid may leak onto the backlight, you can scratch the backlight, leave dust under the screen when fitting, damage the new screen and the list of what can go wrong will go on...

If you are looking to do this and are a repair business, start on MacBook Air LCD only replacements, they are 100x easier and can be done in 30m-1hr, and you come across similar obstacles. If you have never done complex screen replacements before, don"t bother unless you don"t mind the quality possibly being bad, or accidentally cracking the new screen whilst fitting.

If you decide to try this, make sure to get a screen which is from original Apple packaging, which is now possible to get for this year since it is old stock. This will have a protective film on the back with red writing and either have no protective film on the front glass (plastic sheet instead) or a plastic film with red writing on. If the film has been peeled up before, or does not have the writing, you are being sold a defective screen from LG/Samsung"s faulty pile, which has had the film reapplied. Make sure you test it before fitting too, you won"t be able to remove the screen without cracking it.

A lot of info, but I hope this helps. I have replaced around 250 A1425/A1398/A1502/A1534 screens by now, so if you decide to do this and get stuck at any point, feel free to ask :)
