For more than 40 years, the legendary BMW Motorrad abbreviation “RS” has been synonymous with BMW Boxer-powered sport touring, whether on windy country roads or on long-distance tours. The BMW RS is a master of sporty riding, leaning into turns as well as long distance riding for two with luggage. To ensure that this remains the case in the future, BMW Motorrad has given the 2023 BMW R 1250 RS some new standard features and optional extras – to make the sports-touring Boxer not only a better value but more dynamic and more comfortable as well.

As before, the legendary 2-cylinder boxer engine provides powerful propulsion. It still has an engine capacity of 1,254 cc and, even in the current EU5 emissions version, generates 136 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to BMW ShiftCam technology for varying valve timing and valve lift on the intake side, it delivers power across the entire engine speed range, is extremely smooth and quiet running and features outstanding fuel economy and emissions.

Unadulterated riding pleasure with that classic boxer punch: The BMW R 1250 R. The only thing as exceptional as its drive system using BMW ShiftCam technology is its versatility: Whether sporty and dynamic, pure and classic, or effortless and relaxed: This roadster delivers an incomparable riding experience. Make a clear statement with its power train and maximum torque of 143 Nm – whenever you want. And with its handling, you are the master of every kilometre – however you want.

The new ECO riding mode joins RAIN and ROAD modes and allows the rider to use the innovative BMW Motorrad ShiftCam engine technology (updated for the new ECO mode, same as in the 2023 R 1250 R) to achieve maximum fuel economy and riding range. In ECO mode, the rider is encouraged to ride as fuel-efficiently as possible with a soft throttle map and moderate engine torque limitation. In ECO mode, the TFT colour display provides an efficiency display in the upper part of the screen. If you want maximum performance – for example for overtaking or riding uphill – the ride mode button can be used to switch from ECO quickly and easily to a different ride mode.

As a popular sports tourer, the R 1250 RS features standard BMW Integral ABS Pro. This braking system offers even more safety while leaning in corners. Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) supports the rider during emergency braking manoeuvres by avoiding unintentional throttle inputs. By means of intervention in the engine control, drive torque is reduced during braking to make full use of the braking power at the rear wheel. This keeps the motorcycle stable and shortens the braking distance.

As before, the 2023 R 1250 RS is equipped with a TFT colour display featuring integrated arrow navigation and extensive connectivity. Excellent readability, excellent readability,

clear menu navigation and a highly integrated operating system. The rider can choose between customised screen displays for various purposes. This also includes the “Sport” Core Screen, which provides real-time information about the current and maximum lean angle as well as control interventions – such as ABS Pro or DTC. New standard features also include redesigned LED turn signals.

The 2023 BMW R 1250 RS offers two different power sockets as standard. The previous 12-volt on-board power socket plus an additional USB-A socket with a 5-volt power supply. This most widely used type of USB socket with newly developed charging electronics allows you to charge a smartphone while riding by connecting a cable adaptor. Up to 2,400 mA charging current is available.

Tubular handlebars are now available as a new option as well as an original BMW Motorrad accessory. The tubular handlebars are slightly wider and higher than the standard handlebar and less swept. This means that in addition to the various optional seats, the handlebar ergonomics of the R 1250 RS can now also be individually adapted to achieve an even more relaxed and upright seating position.

The 2023 BMW R 1250 RS highlights its advanced sport touring capabilities with new standard Light White paint. This replaces the previous model’s standard Black Storm Metallic paint. Two optional Style designs are available.

A turn-by-turn arrow navigation system guides you to your destination on the 6.5-inch TFT display. Pending riding maneuvers, such as turns or roundabouts, appear together with a lane guidance.

The 10.25" TFT color display, on the other hand, opens up new worlds to you,  in terms of readability, menu navigation and operating concept. Its full-screen mode provides a fully interactive map view. In split screen mode you can rely on several functions at the same time, and you are able to control them in a straight-forward way using the multi-controller.

For more than 40 years, the abbreviation “RS” has stood for sports touring par excellence in conjunction with the BMW boxer engine. The R 1250 RS is now even more innovative and sophisticated and delivers the ultimate sporty, dynamic touring experience.

As before, the legendary 2-cylinder boxer engine provides powerful propulsion. It still has an engine capacity of 1,254 cm3 and, even in the current EU5 registration, generates 100 kW (136 hp). Thanks to BMW ShiftCam technology for varying valve timing and valve lift on the intake side, it delivers beefy power across the entire speed range, extremely smooth and quiet running and outstanding fuel consumption and emission values.

The ECO riding mode allows the rider to use the innovative BMW Motorrad ShiftCam engine technology primarily in such a way to achieve the maximum range. In ECO mode, the rider is encouraged to ride as fuel-efficiently as possible with a soft throttle curve and moderate engine torque limitation. In ECO mode, the TFT colour display provides an efficiency display in the upper status line. If you want maximum performance – for example for overtaking with a heavy load or riding uphill – the ride mode button can be used to quickly and easily switch to a different ride mode.

As a popular sports tourer, the R 1250 RS in its latest edition features BMW Integral ABS Pro as standard. This is a braking system, which offers even more safety when braking – even when leaning into bends – and thinks even further ahead, so to speak. As the riding mode concept continues to expand, more new functions will also be added. For example, the ABS control characteristic will be adapted further to the respective riding mode. As part of the “Riding Modes Pro” option, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) additionally supports the rider during emergency braking manoeuvres. DBC increases safety when braking, even in difficult situations, by avoiding unintentional throttle activation. By means of intervention in the engine control, drive torque is reduced during braking so as to make full use of the braking power at the rear wheel. This keeps the motorcycle stable and shortens the braking distance.

As before, the new R 1250 RS equipped with a TFT colour display featuring integrated arrow navigation and extensive connectivity. Excellent readability, clear menu navigation and a highly integrated operating concept place it at the top of the production motorbike world. The rider can choose between customised screen displays for various purposes. This also includes the “Sport” Core Screen, which provides real-time information about the current and maximum lean angle as well as control interventions – such as ABS Pro or DTC. New standard features include redesigned LED tun indicators (also for the USA) and the iconic daytime running light (not permitted in all countries; without daytime running light function, the light icon is designed as a parking light).

The new BMW R 1250 RS offers two different sockets as standard. The previous 12-volt on-board power socket plus an additional USB-A socket with a 5-volt power supply. This most widely used type of USB socket with newly developed charging electronics allows you to charge a smartphone while riding by connecting a cable adapter. Up to 2,400 mA charging current is available, enabling fast charging depending on the type of smartphone used. The Intelligent Emergency Call is also a standard feature (eCall; not available in all countries) for providing rapid assistance in emergencies.

Tube handlebars are now available as a new optional extra ex works and also as an original BMW Motorrad accessory. The tube handlebars are slightly wider and higher than the standard handlebar stubs and also less swept. This means that in addition to the various rider seats available as optional equipment or original BMW Motorrad accessories, the handlebar ergonomics of the R 1250 RS can now also be individually adapted to achieve an even more relaxed and upright seating position.

In the basic variant, the new BMW R 1250 RS highlights its advanced sport touring qualities in Icegrey non-metallic in conjunction with a black frame. With the Triple Black Sport Model available optionally ex works, the customer can choose from two particularly expressive colour concepts.

• Headlight Pro BMW Motorrad has been a pioneer when it comes to motorcycling safety for decades. Thanks to its innovative strength, the manufacturer quickly established itself as a trendsetter in this field, and will continue to achieve new benefits when it comes to motorcycling safety in the future. The latest example for BMW Motorrad’s innovative strength in this field is the full-LED headlight with integrated daytime riding light, which is available for the first time in series production motorcycle- the R 1200 GS. This LED main headlight illuminates the road with a hitherto unmatched light clarity as the only one of its kind in the world. The LED for the high-beam headlights is vastly different and has a strong light intensity with its two glass lenses. Furthermore, the optional accessory also has a tail lamp, which provides an even better rear view with its two bars.

• Connectivity The optional accessory BMW Motorrad Connectivity provides motorcyclists with an innovative solution for daily navigation, using multimedia and riding-related information with the clearest layout and intuitive operations: connecting the motorcycle, smartphone and helmet via Bluetooth results in completely new possibilities. The multi-controller ensures that the functions are easy to operate at all times. The traditional electronic instrument cluster gives way to a large, clear TFT-display, which gives the rider constant access to navigation, phone calls, media and additional vehicle information as well as information that was previously displayed, such as speed and revs. On top of this, there are more additional functions available with the free BMW Motorrad Connected App. Connectivity gives motorcyclists the opportunity to focus on what really matters: the streets waiting to be discovered.

R1250RS, BMW R1250RS, BMW R1250RS TFT display Anti theft brace, BMW R1250RS TFT screen anti theft brace, TFT screen locking brace, TFT screen locking frame, high grade 304 stainless steel construction. Designed and produced in the UK by craftsmen. Very robust, durable extremely high quality engineered product.

Regretfully the TFT display, which is standard equipment on all models of the BMW R1250RS, is only held in place by three circlips and a wiring plug, believe it or not! These units can be so easily removed by hand with minimal force and stolen in mere seconds, with a per unit replacement cost of around £1,200, often plus the additional cost of up to around £3000 to have the wiring loom replaced if this is also damaged beyond further use during the theft of the unit!

The idea of this product is to simply deter opportunist thieves from snatching your TFT display unit, and it works by physically preventing the unit from being removed outwards from the dash. Even if the three circlips are removed the unit cannot physically be removed. The brace utilizes two strong mounting points and is easy to fit but near impossible to remove without tools - which is the whole idea! It comes with a comprehensive installation leaflet and full fitting kit, and there is also now various installation videos on YouTube.

This is an extremely good value for money, and equally high quality product, powder coated satin black as standard so it looks very much at home on the bike and blends in like it is original equipment, and it could save you thousands of pounds in repairs and replacement display! There is a choice between the standard brace, or an integrated sun visor at extra cost.

BMW twins of the last ten years, whether in a parallel or boxer layout have a distinct personality. They pick up revs very quickly, like the pistons were made of race-grade Titanium and there’s a lovely, buzz-saw, aggressive rasp that you feel through the throttle.

The other thing this motor does really well though is the more laid-back stuff. Where big twins can be a bit chuggy through town or cruising at motorway speeds, the middleweights tend to be smoother and a bit perkier too at low speeds nipping in and out of traffic. Again, it’s BMW’s superb fuelling and throttle response that makes the difference here.

The gearchange is very slick with a light clutch and accurate shifting. Neutral can be a bit stiff to select on occasion, but you soon get used to it. Our test bike had BMW’s Gearshift-pro quickshifter fitted. It’s far from the best system out there – stiff, clunky and doesn’t always engage at lower of mid-rpm - and, to be honest, the F750’s gearshift is so good anyway, you’d be better off spending your cash on something else.
