mac lcd panel damage lop right sceeen manufacturer
just to recap quickly: one day I turned on my laptop and there was a big nasty crack down the screen running from the top in a jagged line across to the side. the machine was never dropped, hit or abused in any way, so to anyone out there who doubts that this kind of thing can just happen... well, it can.
anyway, after taking the machine to an authorised repair centre, instead of contacting apple for a warranty repair as I"d asked them to do, they just sent me a quote to replace the screen at a cost of around 950€. now, if I"d dropped my computer, or some accident had happened to it, I would have just had to swallow it and accept that this is how things go. but seeing as nothing like that had ever happened, it"s a little harder to come around to thinking you are going to have to shell out for something that obviously was defective and snapped all of its own accord. the repair centre suggested that if I wasn"t happy with the quote I should take it up directly with apple..
so, I called apple france the next day and explained the situation. it was a little tricky because my MBP is now a month or so out of warranty, however it was still under warranty at the date when I handed it over for repair. so fortunately I had documentation to prove that. after a lengthy conversation and being put on hold a couple of times, the consultant told me that they would need to speak with the technician that had assessed the machine. if the technician would verify that there were no signs of abuse on the computer, they"d replace the display under warranty. so they put me on hold again and called the repair centre. when they got back to me, the confirmed that whatever happened to my display was not the result of any damage accidental or otherwise, and they would authorise repair under warranty.
there was one additional factor that may have played in my favour in this whole story.. when I bought the computer (online from the apple store) and it was delivered, the first thing I noticed about the machine was that the display wasn"t very good. it had badly uneven backlighting, was not evenly sharp all over and was generally not up to the standard I would expect in a top of the line machine.. so, I immediately called apple and told them this. they offered me a DOA which is "dead on arrival", the right to have the machine replaced for an entirely new one within 14 days of receiving it. at the time since it was the very first batch of the core 2 duo machines, I didn"t want to run the risk of getting a new machine that might have had something else wrong with it. a sub-standard display I could live with as long as the rest of the machine was in good working order, which it was.. better that than have a dodgy hard drive or worse. so, they created a detailed record on my call, with a reference number etc. basically it said that I had decided to keep the machine but that I felt the display had issues, and that during the warranty period I was going to consider asking for the display to be replaced if I felt that whatever quality issues they had with the early machine"s displays were worked out later.
next time I am definitely getting apple care, because I knew all along that there was something up with my machine, and if it had died after the warranty ran out, it would have been a bit unpleasant let"s say.
I accidentally applied some pressure to the bottom part of the display on my 13” macbook air 2017 (near the hinge, whilst closed). This initially caused the top half of the display to show not work properly, showing lines. It then gradually got worse, until the entire display would only show colored lines.
I found that applying pressure to the bottom left hand side of the display temporarily mitigated the problem. I’m aware this is where one of the ribbon cables is, and guess this means it’s damaged? See attached video:
I was able to use the macbook normally when plugged into an external display. Because of this I assumed it was not a faulty graphics card, but some fault with the display cables. I don’t think the display it’s self is cracked as there is no visible crack. (Could I be wrong??)
The machine still boots, and works normally when attached to a display. I now think the problem may be to do with the LCD it’s self and the ribbon cables that attach it to the LVDS assembly (not sure about terminology here..).
I’m posting to try and get some help validating my assumptions. I’m not sure what the best next step would be, should I replace the LCD by separating it from the backlight and installing a new one? Is there some other component that is possibly the problem? I would not want to go to the trouble of replacing the LCD to find it was some other component! I could buy a completely new display assembly, but this feels wasteful!
reporting that cracks are inexplicably appearing on the screens. Now Apple has published a new support document in which it warns MacBook owners about keyboard, palm rest and webcam covers – apparently these can damage displays.
As we explained in the earlier report, the M1 MacBook Air and M1 MacBook Pro may have a vulnerability: According to reports in Apple’s support forum and Reddit some users have experienced broken displays. Reports describe how a crack can appear suddenly in the outer glass layer of the display. Sometimes it is just a small crack, but sometimes it grows larger and causes the screen to display image defects. One Macwelt (Macworld Germany) reader reported such a case. Since the display repair is costly this is expensive damage.
Display damage of this type is not new and is usually caused by a foreign object between the display and the keyboard – a so-called “contact point crack”. According to reports, Apple usually evaluates this damage as the fault of the user and does not want to adopt the repair costs. However, many of the affected people assert that they have not had any foreign objects between the display and the keyboard. According to several reports, the error even occurs on devices that are only on the desk and are not even used as mobile devices.
support document that the new MacBooks have a vulnerability in this sense: Apple has warned against covering the trackpad or keyboard of the MacBooks with any protective foils or sleeves. This also includes keycaps, for example with markings. Apparently, even these few millimetres of additional thickness are enough to apply pressure to the display. In the document Apple warns users that: “If you use a camera cover, palm rest cover, or keyboard cover with your Mac notebook, remove the cover before closing your display to prevent damage to your display.”
The company elaborates further saying: “To enable the thin design of Mac notebook computers, the clearance between the display (screen) and the top case is engineered to tight tolerances. If you use a camera cover, palm rest cover, or keyboard cover with your Mac notebook, remove the cover before closing your display. Leaving any material on your display, keyboard, or palm rest might interfere with the display when it’s closed and cause damage to your display.”
Webcam covers sound may explain why so many displays are splintered at the height of the MacBook camera, but many of the affected parties claim that they have used no such covers. The susceptibility to screen damage seems unusually high and Apple should probably be a little more accommodating.
It is possible there is a fault with the design. One possibility is that the keyboard is too thick – the current MacBook keyboards have been used since 2019 when they replaced the flatter “Butterfly” keyboards that had many weaknesses. It is also feasible that the camera itself could be the “contact point”.
“I bought a MacBook Air M1 6 months ago and the screen cracked for no apparent reason. I left my computer on the top of my desk during the night and the next day I opened it the screen had 2 small cracks on the right which damaged the functioning of the screen. I contacted an authorized Apple center which told me Apple warranty would not cover it as it is a contact point crack; as if I have left something the size of a rice berry between the screen and the keyboard. It is absurd as I have nothing like it on my desk and the computer was properly closed as usual and didn’t move the whole night.”
“We bought a M1 Macbook Air 4 months ago. Last weekend my wife was watching a movie on Netflix and adjusted the screen at the edge to change the viewing angle. The screen blacked out except for an area on the left which had bright lines in a irregular pattern. I have taken the MBA to the local Apple store and they advise me that my wife caused the pressure crack and it is not covered under warranty. Cost to repair is $725 Australian dollars. This leaves a very sour taste. The screen should not break when the screen angle is changed.”
“My 17yr old daughter was at her desk, working on her MacBook Pro (M1 display) and shut it to take a break. When she went back to work, on opening the device she noticed that the bottom of the display was covered by flickering black and white lines and that there were also perpendicular coloured lines on the left hand side of the screen.”
“I have just experienced the same thing. On July 28th I closed my laptop to take the dog outside. I came back in and opened up the laptop and there was a crack. It was very confusing as I could not understand how this would have happened. Took the Mac to the apple store and was told right off the bat “I will tell you what you did here” and it was explained how I must have closed the lid on something. When I said that did not happen they said I must have pushed down on it or held it wrong.”
Now you can swipe down (from the top right-hand side of screen) and access Hearing. Tap this and you"ll see the option to turn on Background Sounds and choose which to hear.

Rumour: Cave Story 2 Teased at PAX South and Could Be in the Works Nintendo Life "Maybe, maybe not" by Share: is quite the tale of success. Developed over five years by one man, named Daisuke Amaya, it first saw release over ten years ago on PC. Since then, it"s received universal acclaim, achieved widespread popularity and has been ported to numerous platforms. Taking inspiration from old school exploration and action games like and , the run "n" gunner was praised for its compelling story and well-balanced gameplay. However, over a decade later there still hasn"t been any evidence of a sequel, though this may have just changed recently. Nicalis, the company that handled porting and publishing of the game to consoles, held a discussion at PAX South yesterday and may have inadvertently - or otherwise - spilled the beans. At the end of the panel - which was headed by the company founder, Tyrone Rodriguez - an eagle eyed fan noticed a desktop icon on the home screen of the Macbook they were using to present, titled "Cave Story 2". When the fan asked Rodriguez about it, he said that he "hadn"t noticed that shortcut icon". When asked directly whether or not they were working on a sequel, he responded with, "maybe, maybe not." Before speculation gets out of hand, remember that this is not Nicalis" game, though it was responsible for publishing and producing ports. It"s certainly within the realm of reason that if Daisuke Amaya did create a sequel, he would partner with Nicalis once again to get it published
for consoles. We"re also hoping that a video of the presentation is posted online to reinforce the earnest claims of the source that witnessed this exchange. What do you think? Would you like to see another Cave Story? Sound off in the comments below [source ] Share: About Mitch has been a fan of Nintendo ever since he got his start on the GBA in 2005. When he"s not busy playing games or writing, you can find him down at his local MMA training facility learning how to punish the unrighteous. Comments ) This would be amazing! I love Cave Story to death and would do anything to have a sequel! I just hope this is true... Cave Story was good but I can imagine after all these years that a sequel would be even better. Interesting. I should probably play Cave Story again, soon. I would pay so much money for this. Watch, it"ll be 5 more ports of the first game... Coool. I"d love a sequel. lol I hope this isn"t true. Cave Story is a very special game to me, and it getting a sequel would lessen its value, especially if it is a cash-in by Nicalis like the numerous Cave Story ports were. Nevertheless, I would probably play a sequel 10+ times like I did with the first one. Ahahahaha this comment killed me Your more than likely right aswell. I"m certain our Toasters and Microwaves do not have a port yet, so yeah, I might be. Despite me not "beating" it yet (CURSE YOU, SANCTUARY!!), I"m open for a sequel Really good game, I hope it gets a sequel. Love Cave Story and it would really be a dream come true for it to
