Gaming keyboards come in all shapes, sizes, costs, and utilities. The multi-functional Z-board, with its game-specific overlays has had some attention over the years, as well as the Saitek Eclipse range, and Logitech’s own G-series keyboards.

The original G15 in the range offered a flip-up black-and-white LCD display, programmable G-buttons, a physical switch to turn the Windows key off, and on-board media controls. The G11 then offered everything the G15 did, without the display. The G15 revision 2 integrated the screen into the keyboard, and reduced the number of G-buttons. The G19 then became an LCD color version of the newer G15, with some other small enhancements.

The G510 then offers a mix of the newer G19 and the original G15, giving a color display and more programmable buttons. Alongside this, the keyboard also offers 3.5mm analog headset jack inputs, converting the signal to USB and sending it down the keyboard USB cable. All the familiar G-series features still remain – media controls, programmable buttons, USB inputs, and color backlighting. The G110 keeps the gauntlet running, as a non-LCD version of the G510.

As one of the first G15 adopters when they were first released, I can confirm that it is still going strong, even if it does pick up mountains of dirt and dust, after thousands of hours of high-impact gaming. Back then, I paid £55 ($85) for the US import version. Logitech are selling the G510 from their website for $119.99, or £89. Again, paying $120 for a keyboard can seem excessive, especially when a $10 keyboard will do what a keyboard was originally designed to do. Most users however, and especially gamers, will find use for all the extra features that boards such as the Logitech G-seies offers.

I recently purchased a Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard, and I"m trying to get it to display the WoW Stats/Information that it has up on the LCD Screen (like how it is featured on the box).

Phil mentioned, and I quote “For the LAN gamer, this backlit beauty of smaller proportion is worth considering as it isn’t expensive, can take it’s fair share of punishment, and is more likely to fit in a LAN bag and on a shared LAN desk space” – the G510 is bigger and bulkier than the G110 in terms of sheer size however the well moulded casing and integrated LCD screen can take its share of beatings as well; Phil’s comments reign true for the G510 as well.

To be honest, I don’t use the Integrated USB audio – I did use it during testing and its OK but it there is only room for 3.5mm jacks – no USB input. So the drivers have ended up disabled in favour of my Logitech gaming headset. The audio quality was fine – not as clear as a dedicated sound or as crisp but if you don’t have an existing card then it will do fine until you buy one!

I love this keyboard. The keys spring back quickly and the keys are quiet. I love the backlit keys and LCD panel – especially when playing the dark for those geeky nights alone! There is also a light button in case you don’t want any light and want stealth mode instead.

The keyboard cops a pounding in games like BF3 and Starcraft II and hasn’t faulted. The only annoyance is getting the correct applet on by default. Installation of the applets is easy enough and when they do work the additional information and telemetry is where its at with this keyboard.

I considered if I’d ever actually use the LCD before I bought the keyboard, but I must admit – now playing games such as Battlefield: Bad Company 2 where I can see my ping, server information, level up information and player stats in front of me justified the price and the purchase. Thankfully, there is a community dedicated to keeping the applet development alive (Logitech Users Group) and together with Logitech’s updates make the keyboard as current as it was when it was released. Battlefield 3 players are still waiting on a suitable applet that supports the LCD panel like for BC2; a profile does exist however its only for G-Key assignments.

The lack of USB port is a shame however doesn’t detract from the keyboard itself – with or without USB this keyboard is every bit as functional as a gaming keyboard as you’d need.

Managing applets within the Gaming Software application is pretty good. Button programing is easy for both the G-Keys and Macro keys. Navigating the applets on the LCD panel itself is a little clunky however is still effective. One slight niggle is I still can’t figuire out how to “default” an applet or even if its possible.

There are some small compromises with this keyboard – the lack of a USB port, the in-built USB Sound Card and no official Battlefield 3 applet. All that aside: I love this keyboard. The G510 is a quality product and asked: would I buy it again if I had my time over – absolultey. It’s sleek, does everything it says on the tin and at around $110inc.gst its a bargain!

Check the game mode. The game mode is displayed by a number 1-9, U, [, or ] symbols in the home score for the first 3 seconds upon power up before reverting back to 0. Insert the game code overlay into the controller. Press and hold “SELECT GAME” for 3 seconds, then press the sport you wish to score. Remove game codes overlay and insert the overlay representing the sport you wish to score.

There is an option that allows the scorekeeper to reverse the scores if desired for a halftime court change. By pressing the bottom left key quickly followed by the bottom right key, the scores will reverse on the front display only. The keys should be pressed in succession and not at the same time.

Check the contrast setting. Some keyboards will have a turn knob on the underside of the keyboard, while others will have it on top right on the keypad. If not the contrast, the LCD display has been damaged, usually from using a foreign din cable, and will need to be replaced. Contact tech support for a return authorization number.

The default applet from Turbine only displays redundant information and is hence quite useless. As far as I know LotroLCD does not violate any EULA or Code of Conduct from Turbine or Codemasters since there are already other utilities which parse LOTRO logs in realtime and display the information (on a second screen for dual monitor setup) which are recognized and allowed, the same should apply to LotroLCD.

The application can be used without the user having a Logitech keyboard, a user can simply install the logitech drivers for the G15, hold down shift and ctrl and right click the “Logitech LCD Manager” in the tray area of your taskbar (lower right corner of your screen), this will enable you to open up an Emulator window of either G15 or G19 type.

If you have installed the driver but the “Logitech LCD Manager” is not shown in your tray you might need to start it manually from: C:\Program Files\Logitech\GamePanel Software\LCD Manager\LCDMon.exe

The emulator window will show everything just like it would appear on a real Logitech LCD, typically this would only be useful if users have a dual monitor setup and can keep the emulator on other screen from the Lotro client.

If you want to use the msg/timer functionality with a single keypress action/msg and you don’t have a logitech keyboard you will have to manually create a custom lotro.keymap as explained in the KeyMapReadMe.txt included with the program.

In order for Lotro LCD to initialize at least one file matching each of those patterns needs to exist. Until both files are found LotroLCD will display an error msg and inform you the log files are missing.

Please note that due to a bug this directory can only contain logs from your logged in character, logs from other characters might mean that LotroLCD will not automatically sense new log files.

Button4 Displays a combat data only screen, pressing it again will toggle healing data.LotroLCD currently only supports the English Lotro client, additional language support will be added in a future version.
