The 2023 Camry has it all. Athletic styling. High levels of innovative technology, including Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, one of the most advanced safety systems yet. And a range of models to choose from, including Camry AWD, Camry Hybrid, Camry TRD, and the Nightshade Edition. Life is just better behind the wheel of a Camry.
For the price of upgraded package, it should have come wireless carplay/android auto, connecting the cable and issues with disconnecting cable is not a pleasant experience while driving
I am extremely pleased with me choice of Camy Hybrid, particularly in times of sky-rocketing fuel prices. I have this new vehicle for one month now and so far it has proven to be a huger saver in my pocket book.
This week, meet something special in the mainstream sedan segment: the 2022 Toyota Camry TRD. The Camry TRD, introduced back in 2020, is one of the best decisions made by Toyota in recent years. The TRD badge, which stands for Toyota Racing Development, means two things. A much sportier, get-you-noticed look and a performance-tuned, more engaging driving experience than you get with the typical tried-and-true Camry.
The Camry TRD is definitely the coolest looking Camry in the parking lot. Especially in a new-for-2022 exclusive TRD Calvary Blue hue offset by an added cost Metallic Black Roof matched with a metallic black rear spoiler. A unique gloss black TRD grille with a sport mesh insert is flanked by bi-LED headlights and LED daytime running lights.
19-inch TRD black matte wheels with TRD center logos fitted to summer tires look terrific. Red brake calipers keep the sporty factor coming as does color keyed side rocker panels and an aero-kit with red pin-striping. On the tail end along with the spoiler, LED combo tail lights, and TRD badging you also get a TRD cat-back dual exhaust with a sporty exhaust note.
The Camry gas-only lineup offers two powertrains, a four-cylinder and a V6. The TRD benefits from the more powerful 3.5-liter V6 that delivers 301-horsepower and 267 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s mated to an 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Both power and acceleration felt great, especially in my always favorite Sport mode. It is front-wheel drive.
The TRD Camry is all about an enhanced track-tuned ride and drive thanks to all the Toyota Racing Development modifications to the chassis, shock absorbers and front and rear suspension. It also gets aerodynamic enhancements and larger 12.9 inch front brakes with dual piston calipers. All of the special TRD tuning makes the TRD Camry the best handling and most fun to drive Camry ever. To me, it’s a smooth and confident ride as well, but not the quietest ride in terms of road noise.
The Camry TRD’s cabin matches its sporty exterior looks with its black interior with bold red accents and some stitching. Comfortable Sport SofTex-trimmed front seats feature bold red accent trim and red TRD logos on the head rests. You buckle in with red seat belts. You’ll see red stitching on the dash, leather wrapped steering wheel and gear shift knob.
An 8-way power driver’s seat offers lumbar support. But since the TRD model isn’t the most equipped model, you won’t find a power adjusting passenger seat. As of 2022, the TRD is also now the only model without dual-zone climate. It was on the chilly side during my review week, so heated seats were also on my wish list.
The TRD package upgrades the Camry’s entertainment features. You’ll get a responsive 9-inch touchscreen instead of a 7-inch screen. You’ll also get a JBL 9- speaker sound system instead of a standard 6-speaker system. The Camry’s multimedia system houses a backup camera and is compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa as well as Bluetooth. Voice command works well. The TRD comes with two USB ports.
I would like to see a larger digital driver"s display. The TRD model comes with a 4.2-inch TFT display. Some of the other Camry models upgrade to a 7-inch TFT display. Navigation and wireless charging are also not available in this model.
The TRD Package listed on my test vehicle’s Monroney includes the JBL Audio Plus sound system and larger 9-inch multimedia screen for $1,585. The special metallic black exterior elements including the roof and spoiler tacks on another $500.
The Camry TRD comes with standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ that includes pre-collision with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, full speed dynamic radar cruise control, road sign assist and lane departure alert with steering assist. Unlike the 2020 model I reviewed, the 2022 TRD is equipped with Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, but Rear Cross Traffic Braking is not available on the TRD.
You’ll notice a price difference between the 2022 Camry TRD I’m reviewing compared to the model I test drove two years ago. It’s pricier, but comes with a few added features. This 2022 model as equipped is priced at $35,470, versus the 2020’s MSRP of $32,895. But the 2022 adds some driver assistance features as well as a larger multimedia screen and upgraded sound system. However, I’d still like to see the TRD get an option for heated seats, a larger TFT screen and a wireless charger.

The Toyota Camry midsize sedan has been on sale in the US since 1983 and in those 35 years, the automaker has sold more than 10 million examples in America. A complete redesign for the 2018 model year spun the Camry into its eighth generation. With its recent redesign, not much is new for 2019, except for one important addition: standard Apple CarPlay.
Toyota offers the Camry with a choice of two engines. There"s a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, although in XSE trim, that same engine makes 206 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque.
For those who like some extra shove, Toyota offers a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. Both engines" power outputs lie on the healthier end of the segment. All Camrys pair their powerplants with an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.
The most economical four-cylinder Camry can achieve an EPA-estimated 29 miles per gallon in the city and 41 mpg highway, which is pretty miserly for the class. For comparison, the best a non-hybrid Ford Fusion can do is 21/34 mpg, but the base Honda Accord is more competitive with its 30/38 mpg rating.
There"s ample room for up to five passengers in the Toyota Camry, but trunk space falls on the lower end of the segment at 15.1 cubic feet. The Chevrolet Malibu does a little better with 15.8 cubic feet while the Ford Fusion bests the Chevy with its 16 cubic feet. The Hyundai Sonata and Honda Accord offer even more cargo space at 16.3 and 16.7 cubic feet. All Camrys but the base model feature a 60/40 split-folding rear seat.
Camrys come standard with a six-speaker audio system and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment setup that can support Apple CarPlay, but not Android Auto. Also standard is a complimentary six-month or 2GB (whichever comes first) Verizon 4G LTE data trial to power a Wi-Fi hotspot that can support up to five devices. There"s even standard Amazon Alexa integration.
When it comes to standard driver-assistance goodies, the Toyota Camry is pretty much top of the class. Adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, lane-keep assist and automatic high beams are all part of the Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) suite of features.
For the lower end of the segment, the $23,845 Camry L is competitively priced, but the top-tier, $34,600 XSE V6 sits on the pricey side of the well-optioned competition. The Camry L comes standard with LED high- and low-beam headlights, 16-inch steel wheels, an acoustic windshield, TSS-P, a 4.2-inch TFT instrument-cluster display, a 7-inch touchscreen and auto up/down for all four power windows.
The $24,350 Camry LE adds a power driver"s seat, 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat and an anti-theft alarm. Next up in price is the $25,550 Camry SE, which features a sportier appearance thanks in part to a more aggressive fascia, rear spoiler and 18-inch black machined-finish wheels. The SE also boasts auto climate control, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and sport suspension.
Moving up, the $28,925 Camry XLE builds off the LE"s touring-oriented appearance, but gets you a lot more stuff, some of which includes a larger 8-inch touchscreen, 18-inch silver machined-finish wheels, LED daytime running lights and heated mirrors with blind-spot monitoring.
The XLE also includes keyless access, dual-zone climate control, HVAC vents for the rear seats, wireless charging for your smartphone, 7-inch TFT instrument-cluster display, leather seats with heating for the front row and power adjustment for the front passenger, autodimming rearview mirror and rear cross-traffic alert.
The $29,475 XSE adds 19-inch black machined-finish wheels, dual exhaust, plus an extra 3 horsepower and 2 pound-feet of torque from the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Jumping up to the $34,050 XLE V6 adds (as the name implies) the 3.5-liter V6 engine, nine-speaker JBL premium audio, a panoramic sunroof and a 10-inch head-up display.
Finally, we arrive at the $34,600 XSE V6. This top trim offers the same features as the XLE V6, but with the sportier appearance and suspension. Options for higher trims include embedded navigation, surround-view monitor and rear cross-traffic braking. All pricing excludes a $920 destination charge.
