In the Volvo V40, including the Cross Country and R-Design versions, the driver-centric approach is enhanced with a new, fully graphic interactive display that allows the driver to personalise instrument layout and the information provided.

The V40 is available with a new, fully graphic interactive display in the instrument cluster. This active TFT (Thin Film Transistor) crystal display brings the interaction between car and driver into a new dimension. It expresses emotional functionality, always displaying the most important information in any given situation right in front of the driver.

The Eco theme features green background illumination, designed to create an environmentally inspired look. An Eco meter is displayed on the left. The current and accumulated fuel consumption figures are displayed - and the driver is rewarded with a green light when eco-driving is optimal.

The Performance theme has red background illumination, creating a sporty atmosphere. In the centre a tachometer scale replaces the speed scale displayed in the Elegance and Eco versions. Vehicle speed is shown digitally in the centre of the display. The right display includes a power meter - a gauge that informs the driver how much power is available and how much power is being used at any given moment in time.

In Volvo Sensus, all information is presented on a five-inch or seven-inch colour screen in the upper part of the instrument panel. The integrated screen makes it easy for the driver to keep his or her eyes on the road.

"My Car" offers access to a wide range of settings, such as for City Safety, Collision Warning, Pedestrian Detection, Driver Alert System, Adaptive Cruise Control, lighting, door mirrors, climate unit, central locking and audio system. The driver also has easy access to driving statistics about fuel economy. Another smart feature is a "Driving School" mode that makes the vehicle"s speed visible on the centre display.

If the customer chooses a multimedia audio system, Volvo Sensus comes upgraded with the larger seven-inch screen that also displays information and images from the navigation system, phone, reversing camera, DVD player, digital TV and so on.

The Bluetooth connection has been upgraded to allow not only hands-free phone conversations but also music streaming from your preferred Bluetooth-enabled portable music player. Volvo is actually the only brand to offer Bluetooth music streaming throughout the entire vehicle range. Integrated navigation with voice commands is available as an option.

The optional navigation system is integrated into Volvo Sensus. The voice control function allows safe and convenient handsfree use. A new feature is the turn-by-turn guidance, which is presented to the driver in the instrument cluster"s centre dial.

The owner of an all-new Volvo V40 can use a mobile application to stay in touch with the parked car via a smart phone. The mobile application is an extension of Volvo On Call, which originally focused on direct access to a call centre in the event of an accident or other emergency.

Car check. The mobile app performs a "health" check of the car; displaying information about lights, brake fluid level, coolant level, oil level and oil pressure.

"The all-new V40 has the most intuitive driver interface ever in a Volvo. We believe that the ultimate luxury is to own a car that fits you, understands you and evolves together with you. You jump in behind the wheel for the first time. You take a look at the dashboard - and you find everything so functional and obvious that you are ready to take off directly."

"We have focused firmly on creating a solution that is easy to handle and that does not distract the driver from focusing on the road. Volvo is one of the few manufacturers to give the driver access to all infotainment functions via controls in the steering wheel. Our aim is that a high percentage of users will be able to handle these functions without having to use the owner"s manual."

"The new mobile application transforms Volvo On Call from an emergency system into a useful convenience feature. We are convinced that our ambitious plans in this connectivity field will help us attract more and more new customers in the future."

ROCKLEIGH, N.J. – Propelled by a major investment and product strategy to boost the Swedish automaker’s position in the global marketplace, Volvo Cars of North America released pricing for its 2014 model year lineup today. The announcement comes as Volvo is about to deliver a lineup that reflects the biggest renewal of existing models in company history and highlights Volvo’s commitment to offer customers outstanding value across its full range of products.

2014 models arrive with new designs, upgraded features and new support systems. Volvo’s engine roster includes the 250 horsepower T5; 3.2-liter, naturally aspirated six-cylinder, making 240 horsepower; and the turbocharged T6 at 300 horsepower. The most powerful six-cylinder currently offered by Volvo, the R-Design’s 3.0-liter turbocharged engine puts out 325 horsepower and a stout 354 lb.-ft. of torque.

The 2014 S60 lineup starts at $32,400 for the front-drive T5, while the T6 AWD lists for $39,250. AWD with Instant Traction is again available on the value-leading S60 T5 and can be added as a stand-alone option, with a price unchanged from 2013 at $2,000. A new sport package comprising sport seats, paddle shifters, 18-inch titania alloy wheels and dynamic chassis is standard on the T6 AWD and optional on the T5. The S60 T6 R-Design starts at $42,700.

For the XC60, changes begin on the outside, where the popular crossover sports a new hood, front fenders and fascia that emphasize a wider and more confident appearance. Redesigned headlights flank a bold new grille sporting a larger Volvo Ironmark. These significant exterior design changes emphasize the dynamic, capable nature of the XC60. With careful attention to detail, the designers have increased the XC60’s road presence. The popular XC60 crossover starts at $34,850 in 3.2 FWD and the T6 AWD starts at $39,250. The XC60 R-Design starts at $45,800.

Volvo brings the XC70 into sharper focus with redesigned front and rear styling, including a new grille with a bolder, wider proportion, a larger Iron mark and LED daytime running lights, updated front and rear matte silver décor trim, rear skid plate décor and new taillight design. This bolder XC70 starts out at $34,500 in 3.2 FWD and $40,950 in T6 AWD. Among the more interesting safety features on the XC70 are the dual, fully integrated booster seats in the rear seating area. They are height adjustable, so they adapt as a child grows. What’s more, they look like normal seats.

Changes to the S80 begin on the outside, with a new front fascia incorporating a new grille design with larger Volvo Ironmark and grille pattern. Below the new bumper, a redesigned lower front intake stretches the visual width of the car to create a bolder, wider horizontal stance. New LED daytime running lights are positioned at the outer edges of the intake while the headlights also receive a new look. Following up at the rear is a redesigned bumper and new taillight design sporting LED graphics. S80 starts at $39,900 in 3.2 FWD and $43,950 in T6 AWD. Dressed in optional Inscription package, featuring Sovereign Hide soft leather, ventilated front seats and branded interior touches, the T6 AWD with Inscription represents Volvo’s most luxurious offering.

Select models get a new Adaptive Digital TFT Display instrument cluster that allows drivers to choose between three themes with different configurations and functionality: Elegance has a traditional appearance with a large, circular speedometer bordered by secondary displays. Eco features green background illumination with an Eco meter displayed on the left. Performance has red background illumination for a more dynamic look. A tachometer replaces the speedometer while vehicle speed is shown digitally. The right display includes a power meter gauge that informs the driver how much power is available and how much is being used at any given moment.

This bolsters the sporty impression of the T6 and also produces fantastic acceleration results. Zero to 60 improves 0.2 seconds on the S60 T6 R-Design – from 5.5 to 5.3 on model year 2014 with AQS – while the XC60 T6 R-Design sprints 0.4 seconds faster – 6.6 to 6.2 seconds on model year 2014 with AQS – compared to model year 2013.

New Volvos get warranty coverage for 4 years/50,000 miles, as well as free, factory-scheduled maintenance at 10,000 miles, 20,000 miles and 30,000 miles.

The first generation (2000–2009)S70 and was based on the P2 platform. It had a similar designed estate version called Volvo V70 and a high performance engine and sports-oriented suspension version called S60 R.ECC concept car and the S80.

The third generation joined the Volvo line-up in 2018 for the 2019 model year.Scalable Product Architecture platform, in America"s first Volvo factory in Ridgeville, South Carolina.

The Volvo S60 was released in 2000 (2001 model year) being the company"s new generation sports sedan. The S60 is aimed to mainly compete in Europe with the BMW 3 Series (E46), the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W203) and the Alfa Romeo 156. Unlike its rivals, the Volvo S60 continued production for 9 years with multiple facelifts. When it was introduced the appearance was unlike the squared vehicles offered in previous years, and continued the new design tradition introduced by the larger S80, utilizing a cab forward approach and was more organic appearing with a pronounced shelf along the beltline that ran the length of the vehicle, achieving a Cd=0.28 drag coefficient.crumple zones, driver and front passenger dual threshold airbags with a collapsible three-stage steering column, Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) supplemented with air bags for driver and front passenger, along with a side curtain airbag for front and rear passengers, anti-submarine seats, five padded head restraints with Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), and automatic seat belt pretensioners while front belts also have height adjustment.

The S60 came standard with Volvo"s own radio unit, the HU-613, the HU-803 and was later upgraded to the HU-650 and an optional extra HU-850 unit. The HU-850 unit features a 225 or 335-watt power output (depending on optional external amplifier) with three presets: 2CH, 3CH and Dolby Digital Pro Logic II Surround Sound. The Four-C chassis from the S60 R became an option on some S60s.

Police specification models came about through Volvo"s extensive work alongside the users of the vehicles and Police Fleet Management departments. As a result, the Police specification vehicles have a striking difference from original showroom model that sometimes the Volvo S60 is used as police cars.

First introduced in 2004, Volvo"s S60 R used a Haldex computer controlled all-wheel-drive system mated to a 300 PS (221 kW; 296 hp) / 400 N⋅m (300 lbf⋅ft) inline-5 which sends 95 percent of the torque to the front wheels under normal driving conditions and can send up to 70 percent to the rear wheels as necessary.manual transmission, or an available 5-speed automatic which allowed only 258 lb⋅ft (350 N⋅m) torque in 1st and 2nd gears. The 2006–2007 models came with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission (which was no longer torque-restricted).

Semi-active suspension with Four-C (a short name for "Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept") allows the user to select from three modes: Comfort, Sport, and Advanced. "Comfort" attempts to soften the car over bumps, while "Advanced" firms the suspension considerably and gives more aggressive throttle response - a setting Volvo implies is for use on the race track. This is accomplished through a drive by wire throttle, allowing the same pedal travel to result in different performance when the appropriate mode is selected,Ohlins Racing AB and shock absorber manufacturer Monroe for the self-adjusting shock absorbers.

Another Volvo factory option for only the S60 R was a body kit which included front bumper splitters, side skirts and a rear valance, color matched to the body. The body kit was only available with certain body colors and in certain markets.

The second generation S60 began production in Ghent, Belgium on May 17, 2010, with an expected annual production of 90,000 vehicles.Geneva Motor Show in March 2010.Haldex AWD system. More differences in the second generation S60 include the new large Volvo iron symbol, parallel to the grille LED day running lamps and larger spaced letters in the brand name on rear.

The Volvo S60 and V60 come with Volvo"s City Safety system as standard, which is the same system fitted to its sister the XC60. This system stops the car in the event of impending collision in "City Traffic" below 19 mph (31 km/h). Also, a new safety feature named "Pedestrian Detection" (available on both the V60 and S60) detects people in front of the car and automatically applies the brakes if the driver does not react in time. The new sedan shows off Volvo"s completely new design language already seen in the Volvo XC60 concept. It rides on the same platform as the XC60. The goal of this new design was to target younger demographics.

In 2013, the T5 engine was revamped before the launch of the Drive-E arrival. Among the tweaks to the T5 power plant is a boost in engine compression to 9.5:1 from 9.0, engine torque peaks at 4200 rpm and engine management changes provide faster gear changes and upshifts when the 6-speed automatic gearbox is in the sport mode. Output remains the same over 2012 at 250 bhp (186 kW; 253 PS) and 266 lb⋅ft (361 N⋅m) of torque, although there is a provision for overboost from the turbo which bumps the torque number to 295 lb⋅ft (400 N⋅m). The changes in compression ratio helps the S60 T5 deliver 1 mpg‑US (0.43 km/L) extra in the city and combined cycle. Front-drive versions are rated at 21 mpg‑US (8.9 km/L) city/30 mpg‑US (13 km/L) highway for a combined of 24 mpg‑US (10 km/L), while the AWD model is 1 mpg‑US (0.43 km/L) less across the board. Volvo also says the T5 AWD is good for a 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) sprint of 6.6 seconds, while the front-drive version is 0.2 seconds quicker.

Changes include all-new exterior panels from the A-pillars forward including a new hood, front fenders and fascia; a wider grille with a larger Ironmark is flanked by new headlights while a larger, wider lower front intake gains bright accents and horizontally mounted LED daytime running lights; new integrated exhaust pipes at rear, a new Adaptive Digital TFT Display instrument cluster for select models (R-Design versions include unique blue instrument dials), new paddle shifters on T6 AWD and R-Design models (optional on T5), Advanced Quick Shift (AQS) option on all T6 engines and activated when the transmission is set to sport mode or when using paddle shifters, IntelliSafe with Pedestrian Detection and Cyclist Detection with full auto brake and Cross Traffic Alert became part of the Technology Package, a new radar-based Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) to monitor and alert the driver to rapidly approaching vehicles behind the car while still informing the driver about vehicles in the blind spots on both sides of the car, Cross Traffic Alert with radar sensors at the rear end of the car to alert the driver to crossing traffic from the sides when reversing out of a parking space.

North America models went on sale as 2014 model year vehicles in late 2013. Early models include S60 T5 (base, Premier, Premier Plus, Platinum), T6 (AWD, Premier Plus, Platinum, R-Design AWD, RD Platinum).

The Volvo S60L PPHEV (Petrol Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) concept car was unveiled at the 2014 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.Volvo Cars announced that the S60L PPHEV will be manufactured at the Chengdu plant and is scheduled to be launched in China in the first half of 2015.

The S60L PPHEV shares the same electric-drive technology as the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid, but instead of the diesel engine of the V60, the S60L PPHEV has a 2-liter, four-cylinder gasoline turbocharged engine from Volvo Cars’ new Drive-E engine family. The 50 kW (67 hp) electric motor is powered by an 11.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that delivers an all-electric range of up to 50 km (31 mi). The petrol-powered engine produces 177 kW (237 hp) and 350 N·m (258 lb-ft) of torque. The driver can select via three buttons among three driving modes: Pure, Hybrid or Power. In the default hybrid mode, the CO2 emissions are about 50 g/km, corresponding to a fuel consumption of 2.0 L/100 km (140 mpg‑imp; 120 mpg‑US). By selecting Pure mode, the car runs in all-electric mode, and the Power mode combines the capabilities of the engine and motor to deliver 225 kW (302 hp), 550 N·m (405 lb-ft) of torque and 0–100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration in 5.5 seconds.

volvo 2014 tft display quotation

It"s hard to believe the XC60 midsized crossover has only been around since 2010. It actually seems older, really. We feel like we"ve seen them pretty much everywhere since forever, but that"s thanks to their popularity (for a Volvo, anyway). Thankfully, Volvo refreshed it significantly in 2014 and made the fascias more sophisticated and did away with a lot of dark exterior plastics, which made it look cheaper than it was. The current model is on its way out soon since Chinese-owned Volvo is looking to redo much of their lineup -- having started out with a bang with the hot-selling XC90 full-sized SUV.

Our T6 Drive-E benefitted from Volvo"s more potent edition of their 2.0-liter turbocharged four, largely because it gets assistance from a supercharger for a healthy 302 horsepower 295 lb-ft of torque. The T6 Drive-E also gets the smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic instead of the six-speed automatic that shows up in lesser trims.Ride Quality: Limo-like ride quality. Great seats and good shock absorption. 19-inch Michelin all-season tires ride smoothly.

Though Volvo reworked their XC60 two years ago, they failed to do much with the dated tech, and that"s the biggest chagrin we have for this crossover. It"s just plain old and looks that way. The big keypad in the center stack is convoluted and hard to use. The infotainment system is likewise dated when it comes to controls, despite the fact that its visually appealing and easy to read.

It fares better when it comes to safety. Volvo is synonymous with supreme safety, and the current XC60 is no exception, garnering an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ for the 2016 model year. And that comes as no surprise given Volvo"s commitment to being one of the safest brands in the industry.Infotainment Screen Size/Quality: The 7-inch screen is easy to read but is set in a bit too deep, probably to avoid glare. There"s also no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Grrr. At least there"s WiFi.

We won"t call it beautiful, but Volvo is more about sophistication and sensibility rather than visual punch (at least with the older generation cars). We like the revised fascias that give the Volvo a bit more presence, and the body is well-sculpted like any modern CUV should be. We like the fact that Volvo eschews busyness in their design language, and even when this car is replaced with the next-gen version, it will still look handsome, especially in charcoal gray.Front: The wide Volvo grille isn"t overly tall like so many other cars today, keeping it clean with simple headlights and a crisp lower fascia.

Volvo takes the time to do their Contour seats just about perfectly, and we wonder why other automakers can"t do as good of a job with support and bolstering. If you"re going to take a long trip in a car, these seats are pretty much perfect. We laud Volvo for not sacrificing comfort for aesthetics, though these seats are pretty attractive.

Despite an odd storage compartment behind the waterfall center stack, the rest of the Volvo works well in the storage department. Good door pockets, a fairly capacious center armrest and good cupholders ensure easy gear stowage. Though you likely won"t haul any furniture in the XC60, there"s plenty of space for a weekend road trip behind the second row.Storage: Good storage options, but it"s no Honda Pilot. There wasn"t much we didn"t like except the strange space behind the center stack, which was hard to reach and made it easy to forget that we left things there since you can"t see it directly unless you peer behind it.

You can wait for the 2018 XC60 in hopes that it looks like a small XC90 (which it will), or you can get this one now. It does everything very well--drives comfortably, looks attractive and stores plenty. You"ll just have to be okay with not having great infotainment technology or audio/infotainment/climate controls. It"s a sacrifice but not a huge one since the Volvo XC60 remains very appealing even in its final iteration for this generation.

The Volvo XC70 is almost completely fresh following a thorough interior revamp for 2013 and a subtle exterior nip/tuck for 2014. The latest luxury crossover wagon from the safety experts gets a macho new grill design with giant honeycomb pattern, LED fog lights, an LED running light blade in each headlight, a freshened LED taillight design and additional matte-finish silver trims all around.

The look is far more current and allows Volvo->ke188 to keep up sales momentum even as the traditional wagon body style is in retreat from the best-selling XC60 SUV and upcoming XC90 replacement.

The XC70’s boxy profile is part of the lasting charm that gives Volvo wagons such huge cabin space and cargo area capacity. This latest model finally addresses the main critiques of post-Ford Volvo->ke188: few meaningful updates to keep the line fresh and competitive.

The latest XC70 fights perception that it might be slow and pack dated cabin infotainment solutions. For 2014, this five-passenger crossover gets ultramodern TFT instruments, a new touchscreen HDD nav solution called Sensus Connected Touch, quicker automatic transmissions and a Polestar engine upgrade on the official options list.

Updated 8/5/2013: Volvo has just unveiled all of the pricing details for the 2014 XC70. The crossover starts at a base price of $34,500 and peaks out at just over $46k. See all of the details after the jump.

This Volvo->ke188 design only seems like it has been around forever. In fact, the color choice of these images makes it difficult to quickly distinguish between the 2014 model and the past decade of XC70s that also were popular in this bronze hue.

This grille still includes Volvo’s external black box of safety sensors in the left-hand side of the front badge, but the box does not protrude as embarrassingly as the first few generations did. The tech could be much better integrated behind the bumpers or deeper in the grille, such as the similar Cadillac->ke18 tech that hides all the scanners within the bumpers and grilles.

This is in contrast the bi-xenon lamps in many other premium cars. The typical design has a motorized shutter inside the single projector ball that repositions the bulb for high beam needs. The Volvo design is rare and offers more total illumination but can be less helpful when flashing to pass.

The new taillight design is less of a departure but sees brighter LEDs swoop across the shoulder of the Volvo->ke188 and up the rear pillars. It’s still unique and classy light signature that helps the understated XC70 feel worth the money in traffic.

The interior of the Volvo->ke188 XC70 for 2014 is defined by the new adaptive digital instruments and the updated Sensus Connected Touch system to control the nav and infotainment functions. The center stack is also redesigned and helps the XC70 to feel wide and extremely luxurious inside. The XC70’s dashboard runs a broad wood trim across its horizontal surface and twin rectangular central vents. This looks much better than the ugly single center vent that mars the cabin of other Volvos.

The adaptive displays are familiar from Jaguar Land Rover but have all-new graphics and features, including a personalized startup screen and three driving themes. From Elegance with traditional gauge faces, to Eco with a green tint and eco monitors, to a red-lit Performance setting that adds a digital tachometer display.

The interior of all XC70s is very nice with some of the world’s best seats. These chairs offer bear-hug support and long-haul comfort, as well as safety via side airbags and a whiplash prevention system. The XC70 does without some of the wilder woods and leathers from Volvo’s new Inscription personalization service on the S80, but does come with technical fabric or three leather choices in higher trims.

There is a lovely cream and saddle color option that looks very nice. As ever, Volvo provides an excellent audio system as standard and it is upgradable to high-performance sound in higher trims. Don’t be fooled by the lack of co-branding by a major speaker maker: this stereo has all the clarity, bump and thump of the competition’s high-dollar optional systems.

The Volvo XC70 comes standard with a backup camera and front/rear parking sensors in most trims. It also includes a power-operated tailgate, power rear headrests and optional power-operated rear child locks (a la the Audi A6).

The Volvo XC70 comes standard with front-wheel drive and a smooth-running 3.2-liter in-line-six producing 240 horsepower. This engine is a little overwhelmed by the Volvo’s mass, but can now move the large crossover to 60 mph in a projected 8 seconds. This is a half-second quicker than last year on account of the new "quickshift" programming in the car’s standard six-speed automatic transmission.

The Volvo XC70 is one of the safest vehicles ever made and certainly much safer than high-riding SUVs and some crossovers. Every aspect of this Volvo was designed to limit the possibility of crashing and ensure survival in worst-case scenarios.

In addition to all its designed-in safety technology, like the extra-rigid structure that can sit on its roof without deforming, Volvo offers an affordable Tech package that bundles all the latest active safety technologies, like adaptive cruise, city braking, sign-reading tech to display speed limits and automatic high-beams that disengage when another car’s lights are visible in the distance.

The Subaru is also large inside with a high roof and a cabin that feels huge but not nearly as luxurious as the Volvo. The Subaru’s boxer 3.6-liter gets similar economy to the turbocharged Volvo unit but runs through a CVT automatic that has a budget-car feel.

The interior trims and plastics are also nowhere near the Volvo, as is noise refinement and infotainment/audio tech. The Subaru comes in standard four-cylinder power that is significantly cheaper than the Volvo but offers similar dynamics and all-weather confidence.

The Audi is a new arrival on the premium cross-wagon scene and is now built on the A4 Avant platform versus the previous U.S.-marker A6-based Allroad. The A4 is a sprightlier performer with better stats all around, but also a small cabin that offers none of the Volvo’s lounge space in the rear. While the Subaru falls at the low end of the XC price range, the Audi allroad is firmly near the top and can reach $50,000-plus with a few options.

Is Volvo finally out of its doldrums after turmoil following its split from Ford? Will the China-focused management be able to balance the disparate wants and needs of Volvo loyalists in America, Europe and now Asia?

Just a few years ago, as the company’s executive leadership pivoted focus to China, attention on Volvo"s American lineup seemed to languish for almost 3 years without changes to match competitors. This is slowly changing and Volvo is rediscovering its charm to create true luxury cars that are safe, unpretentious and well-equipped.

The Volvo approach to luxury is outstanding and the company is trying to avoid sideshows like the unloved C70 cabrio in favor of enhancing the core lineup"s best features. Smooth and quiet is the name of the game. There are no German cars on the U.S. market that ride anywhere near as smoothly as this XC70.

The comfy suspension is more than able to hustle the Volvo in challenging mountain roads – it just does so with slightly more body movement than the BMW 5 series. Precise steering and pedal feel mean the Volvo is always a trusty helper in bad driving scenarios.

It is much bigger than its immediate competition and stands out with a giant trunk and flat load floor. The 2014 Volvo XC70 is now one of the best vehicles around for world-class luxury, deep-snow traction and family safety.
