Starting August 1, 2015 the "Drive Bay Kit Configurator" located at https://www.crystalfontz.com/products/select_kit.html will no longer be functional for ordering one of our Serial or USB displays (CFA533, CFA631, CFA632, CFA633, CFA634, CFA635, and CFA735) in a bracket or SLED. This functionality is being moved to the Customize and Add to Cart process when checking out. This will allow for further customization by our customers to better fit their needs.

The new part numbers will have the bracket / SLED and overlay type as a PREFIX to the configured part number. The choice for bracket / SLED to a display order will be via the cart options. Our CFA835 displays were introduced with these configuration options.

As part of our continuous improvement process, we are integrating the ordering of displays in drive bay and SLED kits as part of the display ordering process.

The CFA635 family of modules is being reactivated with a new LCD controller chip, the Rockworks RW1067. The changes to the CFA635 1v2 hardware are as follows:

The CFA735 family was designed as replacement for the CFA635, allowing a path for improved performance, graphics, and the ability for end users to write their own firmware to take advantage of the capabilities of the enhanced hardware.

After the development of the CFA735 family, the RW1067 was developed as a replacement for the Samsung S6A0073 LCD controller for Crystalfontz America, Inc by Rockworks (China).

The CFA635 family of modules is being reactivated with a new LCD controller chip, the Rockworks RW1067. The majority of the changes to the firmware have been in support of the RW1067 LCD controller and are transparent to the user interface. The changes to the CFA635 2v0 firmware:

In this tutorial we will learn how to interface LCD with AVR Microcontroller specifically ATmega32A. This could be very cool experiment to add display to your microcontroller based projects. These LCD modules are very efficient to receive information and control commands from microcontroller. There are plenty of different manufacturer and type of display available in market. The one we are interested in here is JHD204A (20×4 LCD Module) which is basically china made cheap and available anywhere in retails shops. I am not a personally a fan of this display but this is the only cheapest LCD module available with me at this moment.

This is also probably the best tutorial for people who want to use LCD without understanding much about working parts of it. As explaining about each part of LCD in detail is nearly impossible so I decided to make this article know how or instruction based.  The first step for this experiment is to make basic connections between pins of LCD module which are in total 16 with ATmega32A microcontroller.
