A surge or sudden depletion in electrical supply could lead to a permanent or temporary damage to your TV and other connected devices including lines on it.
If your TV just got delivered with the lines already, it was probably damaged while being shipped. Try contacting the Vizio support team for help regarding this.
It is also possible you would experience severe lag and other glitches on your device if this happened, causing your device to shut down multiple times.
Sometimes, devices like mobile phones and smart devices which need radio waves to transfer data might interfere with your TV. And you will see this interference clearly on your TV screen.
Before trying anything else, we would suggest you remove any smart devices, microphones, or smartphones which are in close proximity to the TV and might be producing interference signals.
One good way to solve this issue is to try out the power cycle method. This method effectively cuts off the power supply and cleans the persistent issues, refreshing the whole system. When it starts next time, your TV might not have the lines!
This is easily achievable by directly unplugging the TV from the power supply. You can also try going into systems and then to the Reset and Admin section to apply a soft power cycle if you have the option. Both methods are just as effective.
TV works with various other devices such as your data connection device, your channel broadcasting device, the DVD, VCR, and speakers. If you have got a loose connection or a bad input device, it could lead to this.
You can check all the loose cables and wires and make sure they are not damaged. Most cables are quite cheap to buy so replace one if needed. If in doubt regarding whether a cable is fit well or not, always pull it and re-insert it again.

See the white line on TV pictured above? If you see a line on your TV screen it might be the result of several causes. Some might be simple to fix and others may actually require you to replace the TV.
Pixels on a TVs display panel are organized in groups of straight vertical lines. If a single pixel fails this may cause the entire group of pixels to fail as well. This then creates vertical lines as pictured here.

The point is you want to look at the picture form at least two devices connected to the TV. Check to see if the line is visible when using both devices. If the line is only visible when using one device then the problem is coming from whatever device is connected when you see the line. If the line is visible on multiple devices connected to the TV then the problem is likely a panel line defect.
TVs with line defects need to be replaced. The cost of repairing a TV like this would end up equaling the cost of a brand new television so attempting to repair it isn’t even worth it.
If your Vizio TV was purchased less than 12 months ago the warranty will still be active. Vizio’s warranty for new TVs covers any factory defect. A panel line defect is considered a factory defect.
Vizio will replace the TV. There are a couple different options for replacement depending on the size of the TV. Smaller TVs will be replaced through the mail. TVs that are 40″ or larger are eligible for an in home replacement.
If the warranty on your TV is expired then there isn’t much that can be done. You would be better off replacing the TV rather than attempting to repair it. The cost of repairing the panel would be close to the cost of going out and buying a brand new television.

In my experience, Vizio TV screen problems are not super common, but if something does go wrong, then this often shows as horizontal lines on Vizio TV screens.
You want to know,“Can the horizontal lines on my TV screen be fixed?”, and the simple answer is, “Yes”, whether they are thin black horizontal lines or even green lines or horizontal red lines on your Vizio TV.
Depending on the exact type and number of horizontal lines you are seeing determines the correct solution, so read through this article carefully, and hopefully we can fix your Vizio TV and avoid an expensive replacement.
Fix horizontal lines on your Vizio TV screen by unplugging your TV from the wall outlet, then re-seat all HDMI and other connection cables in the back of the TV, before plugging it back in again. If needed, remove the TV’s back panel and re-seat the T-Con ribbon, using compressed air to clean its contacts.
I’ll go into more detail on the possible fixes below for Vizio TV horizontal lines on screen, but remember before you do anything, that removing your TV’s back panel is likely to void your warranty.
So, if your TV was purchased within the last year, or has an extended warranty, you are much better to contact Vizio’s service center before performing any of the more invasive fixes.
Note that there are quite a few possible causes of horizontal lines, so it pays for you to first make a note of the exact types of horizontal line you are seeing so that you can match them to a solution.
If you have any compressed air, use that to clean the contacts both of the cable and in the connector on the TV. If you don’t have compressed air, then blow gently on them.
You can also try removing all external devices, including those connected by Bluetooth and any coaxial or signal cables, so that the TV only has a power cable going into it.
Pull up the on-screen menu to see if the lines are still there. If they are, this means that your external connections are fine and the problem is located within the TV.
If your TV is on, then you know that your wall socket is suppplying power, but the question is whether this is constant without fluctuations and is of a sufficient voltage.
If you don’t have a wall socket testing rig, then just unplug your TV, remove any surge protectors and try another appliance that you know draws a similar current. Check if this works as expected.
Most Vizio TVs support auto-updating of firmware, but you can’t assume that this is turned on for you, unless you are using a Smart Vizio TV, where auto-updates are always on.
If you are using a Smart Vizio TV, then there is no option to manually update firmware – this is done automatically as long as your TV has an Internet connection.
Removing the back panel from your Vizio TV will void its warranty, so if you have bought it in the last year, then you are best to contact Vizio support and get them to either fix or replace your TV.
Gate drivers are connected to the TV’s panel by a ribbon cable, and the contact can sometimes come loose. They are bonded within the factory so are not user-replaceable, but you might find that squeezing the sides of your TV next to the thin black line helps to resolve it.
If your TV shows a complete black line across the screen, then you can assume you have single row drivers. Try squeezing the panel on both sides unless you know which side the gate driver is on.
If this does resolve the issue, then opening the back panel using the instructions in the next step, and applying tape to keep pressure on the ribbon cable should fix it.
If the issue isn’t fixed, then either the gate driver itself is faulty and needs to be replaced, which most probably requires a new panel, or there is a possibility of an issue with the T-Con board.
It’s hidden away under the back panel, behind the screen, and is a regular source of horizontal lines in TV images because it connects to the LCD / OLED panel with ribbon connectors which can come loose.
To access the T-Con board, you need to remove the back panel. If you’re not confident doing this, then now is the time to get an expert in. Otherwise:
Unplug your TV, hold down the power button and wait for at least 30 minutes. There are large capacitors in the power board for the backlight and these can hold charge for an extended period of time.
The position of the boards will vary by model, but the T-Con board can be identified by the ribbon cables connecting it to the TV’s panel. Identify the main three boards you will see in the images below.
Then, you should be able to remove the cables by pushing the locking cover down and they will then easily come away from the board. Don’t try to force them out without unlocking them first.
After removing the ribbon cable, take a look at the individual connectors on the ends of the cables, and the connectors in the socket. You are looking for any signs of corrosion, damage or dust.
The contacts should be a shiny gold or silver color. If they are dull and appear to have a rough, copper-like layer over them, this would indicate oxidation and therefore a new cable is recommended.
If there are still horizontal lines, there’s a good chance that there is a fault somewhere on the T-Con board itself. These can be replaced for around $30 from eBay.
T-Con connection issues are generally implicated in vertical lines in TV screens, rather than horizontal lines, but this is worth a try if none of the other steps have worked for you.
If you are still struggling, then any further work is likely to be beyond most home users, so I would suggest contacting Vizio Support is the next best step.
But all of the solutions for why there are lines on your Vizio TV fall into the four groups below. You can eliminate some possible causes by thoroughly investigating these below.
Any slight knock to a cable can partially unseat it from its connector. This is especially true of HDMI cables and other cables that deliver a picture and are physically connected to your TV, and of course includes cables internal to your TV, like the T-Con ribbons.
We haven’t yet looked at this, but it should go without saying that if your TV has been subject to any physical damage, including falling over or even being dropped during installation, then this can both physically damage the boards inside the TV and dislodge any internal cabling.
Because there are several possible causes for horizontal lines on your TV, you can help to diagnose the issue you are having by identifying the type of horizontal line you are seeing.
If they are fixed and not moving, that suggests there is physical damage to your TV, either directly to the panel, or to an individual connector on the T-Con ribbon or gate drivers, or elsewhere in the cabling.
If your Vizio TV screen glitch is horizontal lines that move around the screen, this suggests a failure directly within the T-Con board itself, rather than a physical breakage somewhere within the system.
It’s also important to check that if you pull up your on-screen menu on the TV, do the lines pass through the menu or are they only on the video underneath?
The video below gives a good example of static horizontal lines (even though there is apparent movement at the top of the screen, this would still be classed as non-moving).
If you see a single black horizontal line across your TV, whether it is LCD or OLED, it is either a broken row electrode or a failed gate driver. For panels that use double-ended row drive, the black line may only extend halfway across your panel.
If you see a number of black horizontal lines together, then the ribbon cables connecting the gate drivers at the side of the panel have probably lost some of their bonding. Try a little pressure on the sides of the panel, and if this fixes it, then remove the back panel and apply tape to the ribbon cable connectors to replicate the pressure you were applying.
It could also be a faulty Tab connection to the LCD panel, which would mean an LCD panel replacement – something that is almost as expensive as the TV itself.
There is a clever solution to fix this: you have to open up your TV to get at the T-Con ribbon, remove this and then add pieces of non-conducting tape to each of the contacts in turn. Test the TV after adding a piece of tape, and eventually this should stop the ghosting.
If you haven’t been able to fix your problem using the steps above, then your next port of call should be to Vizio customer support, who can advise you if they are able to fix it.
Whether you have a single vertical line on your TV screen or your Vizio TV has colored vertical lines, there are a number of proven fixes that you can try to get your TV working again.
The most common causes of Vizio TV vertical lines are bad connections within the T-Con board, but there could be something either simpler or more serious going on.
Because the type of vertical lines that you are seeing on your TV can give an indication of their cause, I’ve also included a section to help you to identify the lines you are seeing, which might be helpful to read to ensure you try the correct fix.
First power cycle your TV, unplugging it from the wall for 30 minutes and holding down the TV’s power button for 15 seconds, before plugging it back in. Also try re-seating the HDMI and other cables. Finally, open the back panel, clean the T-Con ribbon with a non-static duster and 99% isopropyl alcohol, and replace the T-Con board if the issue persists.
So, if your TV was purchased within the last year, or has an extended warranty, you are much better to contact Vizio’s service center before performing any of the more invasive fixes.

This works because the T-Con cable sends a clock signal through a handful of the pins (usually 8 pins per cable) which is implicated in the most common issues of vertical lines on screen.
And with two cables, one for each side of the TV, you can use the signal from the working side of the T-Con board to fill in for the faulty clock signals on the other side.
Note that this method will only work if the lines on your screen are either on the right or left hand sides, as blocking the pins on one cable causes the signal from the other cable to fill in for the blocked cable.
It can take some trial and error to get this right, so I recommend you check out the video below for a good demonstration of how to follow this approach.
The type of vertical line you are seeing can give a clue as to the possible solution. Use this guide if you want to target your fixes if your Vizio TV has vertical lines on screen, rather than following them all in order as above.
Single vertical lines on your TV screen can be caused by either loose tab connectors or gate driver failures, depending on the color of the line. The signal moves from the T-Con board through the ribbon cable to Tab Connectors and then to Gate Drivers, where the signal is displayed on screen as the image you see.
A single purple or red line on your Vizio TV screen is usually caused by a failure of a gate driver, which is an integral part of the TV’s panel and cannot be easily replaced at home without changing the entire panel.
A thin vertical line on your TV screen means that there is a loose tab connector, which carries the signal from the T-Con board through to the gate drivers and the panel. A black vertical line usually means that the tab connector has lifted slightly from its factory seating, and can be re-seated by squeezing the edge of the panel next to the black line.
If this clears the verticl black line, then open the back panel and apply some tape to the tab connector to maintain the pressure and remove the line.
Flickering lines on your TV screen are caused by a faulty clock signal on the T-Con board. You need to block this faulty signal using sticky tape on one of the T-Con ribbon cables, which allows the clock signal on the other side of the T-Con board, using the second ribbon cable, to compensate for the faulty clock signal and will remove the flickering lines.
Fix vertical blue lines on your Vizio TV screen by squeezing the plastic panel at the top or bottom of the line, as this will put pressure on the tap connector that has likely failed, re-instating the connection and removing the blue line.
If the blue line only disappears temporarily, then you will need to open the back panel and apply sticky tape to the tab connector to keep pressure on it so that it maintains a connection.
This only applies to TVs with a local dimming array, like HDR 1000 screens, and is caused by imperfections in the backlight grid itself or the logic that drives it.
Essentially, these bands would have been present before the update (so were not actually caused by it), but because the update affected the tolerances of the local dimming grid, the vertical bands have now become noticeable.
The only way to fix this (other than entirely replacing the backlight and circuit boards that drive it), is to carefully change each of your gamma, brightness, contrast, tone mapping or backlight settings until the banding becomes less prominent.

Some Televisions also have an option to "Soft Power Cycle" in the menu. To access this press the menu button and choose System > Reset & Admin > Soft Power Cycle.
Step 3: Check to see if the issue happens on another device, or an app. You can also check the TV"s menu by pressing the "Menu" button on your VIZIO remote.
If your TV has a display issue, the TV will usually have the issue on all content. You"ll see the same problem when watching your cable box and your blu-ray player. If the issue only happens when watching 1 device and can"t be seen when looking at menu, you may want to contact the manufacturer of your video device for assistance.
Press the menu button on your VIZIO remote, and choose System > Reset & Admin > Reset to Factory Settings. In some models it may be under the "Help"option instead of "System"

The LCD has two types of backlights: CCFL and LED. When the screen is backlit with a CCFL (that is, an LCD), the lamp will continue to produce light for a few milliseconds after the power is turned off; when the display is backlit with an LED the features of the LED light to enable it to adjust the speed of transitioning on and off the power source more rapidly, so there will be no constant lighting when the power is turned off. As a result, the flickering LED backlight will be more noticeable than the CCFL backlight.
