You need more information and more details on your ride? Then place the SmartphoneGrip on the display holder instead of Kiox 300 and use your smartphone with the eBike Flow app as a large navigation display.

The clearly structured display with modern design underlines the clean eBike look. The color display can be read optimally by day or night. The Kiox 300 is operated simply and safely via the LED Remote or the Mini Remote.

The smart Walk Assistance function including the Hill Hold automatic rollback protection function helps you on steep or unrideable sections. You can activate it via the control unit and get help on how to use it via your Kiox 300. The display also shows the range for all riding modes. This way you can immediately see which is the best riding mode for reaching your destination.

With the display holder, the display can be flexibly positioned on the handlebar and adapted exactly to your personal needs. The display angle can also be adjusted before the start of the ride to ensure optimum readability.

You can customize the status bar of your Kiox 300: Show the battery charge level, time or current speed. In the Kiox 300 settings, you can adjust the data using the LED Remote or Mini Remote to better match your needs.

For a secure feeling: Kiox 300 indicates whether eBike Lock is active when the eBike is switched on. If your smartphone is nearby and recognized as a key, the Unlocked screen appears and you can ride off with motor support.

Even if you have your smartphone in your pocket or backpack, you don’t have to worry about it discharging unseen: Kiox 300 informs you about the charge level of your smartphone battery.

For even easier orientation, Kiox 300 shows you whether you are on the first or second level of the screen. You can switch between the two levels using the center button on the LED Remote.

Kiox 300 informs you if you are currently riding above or below your personal capabilities and cadence. This will motivate you to push yourself even harder.

The smart system - consisting of the eBike Flow app, control unit, display, battery and drive unit - turns your eBike ride into an individual experience. Yes, eBike Connect supports both routable as well as non-routable GPX tours. First, the desired GPX file must be imported into the eBike Connect online portal or app. The routes are automatically transferred to Kiox at the next synchronization. The following restriction applies here: in the case of non-routable tours, information on the distance to the destination and reaching the destination is not displayed.

The Bosch Kiox 300 display keeps all important information about your e-bike ready and is compatible with the new Bosch Smart System. The high-resolution colour displayprovides you with riding mode, distance covered, speed and many other useful riding information. This makes the compact Bosch e-bike display the ideal touring and training companion.

With the Kiox 300, installing the display on your e-bike has never been easier. This is because the Bosch Smart System Display is simply plugged in between the motor and the Bosch LED Remote. Two plug connections later, the display is ready for use. You will find all the necessary parts for retrofitting in the Bosch Kiox 300 Retrofit Set. The Kiox 300 also comes without any buttons and is operated via the remote unit on the handlebar. The 2" colour display ensures perfect legibility in all situations. The brightness of the Bosch Kiox 300 automatically adjusts to the current conditions.

Note: The Kiox 300 display does not differ in its range of functions from its previous model, but is specially designed only for the Bosch Smart System.

Bosch recently sent us a bike with the prototype of their new Kiox display unit to test. It is their first full-color display, with tons of options and many ways to display a plethora of information. It’s compact, more like the Purion but made to be center-mounted.

One thing to note is that currently it isn’t available as an aftermarket option for Bosch-powered bikes. It has to be wired in from the start, so if you want one, you’ll need to buy a bike that comes with it.

It is held onto the stem-mounted bracket by a magnet and clicks in place very easily. It can pop out, but we took the bike it was mounted to off of some big drops and it never fell off. The advantage of this setup is that if you do crash, the display can pop off the mount to avoid damage. The glass covering this display is Corning Gorilla glass, which is shatter- and scratch-resistant. It’s also anti-reflective, making it easier to read in bright sunlight, and Bosch has carefully designed the mount to hold the display at the optimal angle for easy reading.

Within the menus, you can set the brightness manually or let the display sense light levels and automatically adjust brightness. We love this feature; auto seems to be perfect, even when mountain biking, and dodging in and out of trees and in bright sunlight.

Bosch finally got in a production unit just before we went to press with this issue, and they let us try it. It delivers on every promise the prototype made!

There are eight different screens that can display just the information you want for whatever you’re doing. On all screens you can tell what mode you’re in, your speed in miles or kilometers per hour, and the percentage of battery left. Power Assist mode changes color as you go up or down.

The first screen shows what is connected, via Bluetooth, including your heart rate monitor and your phone (there’s an app coming to work with the display).

The second screen is likely what Bosch expects you’ll keep the display on most of the time. It shows a curved graphic that shows both your own leg power (wattage), as well as the amount of power assistance the motor is supplying.

The third screen shows clock and range, and that range changes depending on what power assist mode you’re in. Bosch compares the battery level to the last 1.5 miles you’ve ridden to figure out your range. If you’ve been climbing a lot and using higher assist levels, that number will be much lower than if you’d been descending and not using as much power.

The fourth screen shows trip distance in miles and ride time in minutes. You can set preferences to reset this data every day, every four hours or to never reset it, depending on your preferences. The fifth screen shows rider input in watts, as well as cadence. Bosch CX motors typically cut off at 120 rpm, but with this setup, as long as we didn’t exceed 19.5 mph, the motor didn’t cut even when we wound the thing up above 140 rpm. Interesting, but not something most riders would ever do.

We used an old Polar H7 chest strap heart rate monitor that we had to dust off and put in a fresh battery. We weren’t sure it would pair with the Kiox, but it paired instantly through the menus. We really liked the heart rate feature, especially the quad screen with all this information available at a glance.

There’s a micro USB port on the front of the display that can be used for diagnostics (performed at your local Bosch bike shop dealer) and upgrades, as well as can be used to charge your phone. The latter can come in handy if you’re on a long ride and using your phone for navigation. You will likely need a custom cable for your phone, and the charge output is 5 watts at 1 amp, so it won’t charge your phone quickly, but it will slow charge it.

It seems there’s no end to the possibilities the Kiox might have with future firmware updates. They could add additional screens or allow customization of existing ones.

The Kiox is our new favorite display. Bosch has taken what they’ve learned from the Intuvia an Purion displays and created something even better. If you want training tools for training for any sport, this is a game-changer.

The Bosch Performance Line CX 2021 motor is one of the most advanced on the market. Utilising multiple sensors which communicate over 1000 times per second, these sensors relay information require to bring you the most precise/powerful eBike assistance offering maximum agility and control.

Bosch CX 2021 - Bosch has increased the motor torque to 85Nm, up from the previous 75Nm, achieving a 12.5% increase on torque across the board. This torque increase has a noticeable effect on riding behaviour.

The new CX motor allows for faster acceleration, particularly on standing hill starts but also at lower cadences. The new Performance Bosch CX 2021 update keeps the high 340% assistance available to the rider.

Bosch"s innovative function in eMTB mode can be controlled to great effect across all terrain types; with the front wheel is already on a step, slight pedal pressure is all it takes to provide that needed "kick" up - A whole new level of pedal management!

Bosch"s all-new Advanced eMTB mode makes sure that eBikers of all abilities are best equipped for whatever riding situation the trail may throw up on the day.

Brand new sensor/motor control functions give eBikers a much wider range of both dynamic and natural support. Using torque sensors to measure pedal pressure, Bosch"s progressive motor support adapts to any riding situation.

All of this will help beginners - the Bosch electric bike is now "easier" to ride. There"s a broader cadence range and if the rider misses or selects the wrong gear whilst accelerating out of bends, the system will respond with more or less power to help the rider by managing the assistance in the most advanced and natural way to date.

Bosch brings new functionality to the Kiox display for 2021. The Bosch Kiox is relatively new to the Bosch eBike Systems family but they"ve adapted it to bring new features to the rider.

For the first time ever, Bosch bring a full navigation suite to the Bosch Kiox display. The perfect combination of functionality in a small and easy to use user interface.

Keeping you on the right track: The new 2021 Kiox navigation function supports eBikers as they head out through unfamiliar areas (or need a hand finding the way home!).

Keeping it on a swivel: The all-new Navigation function on the 2021 Bosch Kiox is perfectly tailored to meet the needs of even the most indecisive of eBikers. The view on the display constantly rotates to the direction of travel while riding, making it ultra-simple to navigate even the twistiest of trails!

Find your own way: eBikers can easily plan routes using the Bosch eBike Connect app or online portal and simply send them to Kiox via the eBike Connect app.

Bosch allow the rider to preset ride screens based on what you want as the rider. Maybe you require different values presented on one screen? Now that is possible.

View your own way: With multiple screens and a choice of riding data to be displayed. You can toggle between ride screens at the flick of a button whilst riding.

In our overview article “How to find the best e-bike app for your needs” we mentioned that the smartphone, in combination with suitable apps, is becoming increasingly important as the control centre of e-bikes. After all, it is extremely powerful and offers a wealth of options for an optimal riding experience. And the truth is that no e-bike display can keep up with that.

But the time has not yet come. If you buy an electric bike, it usually comes with a display. And just as the e-bikes differ, so do their on-board computers. But what are the most important differences, which brands and models are particularly interesting and what options do you have?

The devices are connected to the drive of your e-bike. To control them, you use a handlebar remote control, buttons on the display or the touchscreen – if there is one.

With the help of the display, you can control your e-bike and read data, for example about the route or your performance. However, this is where the main differences begin. The differences between e-bike displays are significant, both in terms of the setting options and the data that can be viewed.

Important note:It is not easy to quickly change the display on an e-bike. This is because the drive and bike computer are linked to each other. With a Bosch e-bike, you can switch between different Bosch computers. However, you cannot simply switch to a Yamaha control unit because you like it better. This means that when you buy a bike with motor assistance, you decide in favour of displays from one manufacturer.

Compact and minimalist. A display of this type is used to make basic settings on the e-bike and to read a few data such as the current speed. Many modern e-bike manufacturers rely on this variant. They assume that their customers will use a smartphone on the handlebars anyway, which would make another large display more annoying than helpful. This type of display is sometimes a control unit with LEDs without a screen.

With a display like the Bosch Kiox, you have an e-bike computer that deserves its name – at least a little bit. Such systems with all the functions – such as integrated navigation functions, route calculation,WIFI or GPS – score high. Theoretically, you can leave your smartphone at home for your next tour. The only problem is that you won’t be able to make phone calls or send messages.

In addition, even a powerful display for your electric bike doesn’t come close to the performance of your smartphone. In fact, many networked e-bike computers only develop their full potential once you connect them to an app on your mobile phone.

Finally, there are more and more systems for controlling e-bikes that do not have a real “display” but are designed for smartphones. They often consist of a smart mount and an app. Also in this case, Bosch provides some prime examples.

What an ebike display must be able to do depends on you. If you use your smartphone for navigation and fitness data anyway, a computer on which you can read the charge level and switch to another riding mode is sufficient. However, the situation is different if you don’t want to have a mobile phone on your handlebars.

Display type and size:Do you prefer the display to be as small as possible or rather larger? Even here, opinions differ. Once again, if you use your smartphone as an (additional) control centre, you do not need a separate large screen. If you only ride with a bike computer and want to read a lot of information from it, the display should not be too small so that you can keep an overview even at high speeds. Then a colour screen is also worthwhile. Mountain bikers often prefer a small screen for reasons of freedom of movement.

Settings on the bike: One of the basic functions of e-bike displays is the setting of the riding mode. However, this does not have to be everything. In some cases, you can also use the bike computer to control the lighting or manage an anti-theft device.

View: Even a minimalist display shows you how much power your battery still has and when it is time for a charging station. Depending on the device, you can also see the current speed and distance covered, the time and the temperature.

Fitness data: Do you see your e-bike as a piece of sports equipment and cycle tours as a workout? With a bike computer that tracks fitness data (such as the Garmin Edge), you can keep up to date with your performance. If you want to know not only your cadence but also your pulse, you need to connect the display to a corresponding measuring device.

The name Bosch does not only stand for high-quality drives. The company has also produced a wide range of Bosch ebike displays. They range from the simple Purion to the fully networked on-board computer with built in navigation system to solutions for the smartphone.

Bosch Purion: The Bosch Purionis rightly named. It is a minimalist e-bike display that shows charging status, speed, riding mode, range, trip distance and total distance.

Bosch Intuvia:The Intuviadisplay also concentrates on the essentials. What is special about it is the separate control unit. In addition, the Bosch Intuvia Display can be converted to the COBI.Bike mount.

Bosch Kiox and Kiox 300: This small and robust display with activity tracking is well suited for sporty riders. In interaction with the eBike Flow app, the Kiox 300 is constantly being expanded with new functions.

Bosch Nyon: The Bosch Nyon display has a touchscreen, a separate control unit for while riding and a colour display, and can be connected to the Bike Connect app. With Nyon, you benefit from a wide range of functions in combination with your smartphone and can use the display for navigation, among other things.

Bosch LED Remote:Finally, Bosch offers a handy LED control centre that connects e-bikes with the eBike FlowApp. As part of the Bosch Smart System, it becomes the sole control centre.

In addition to these displays, Bosch 2022 offers several smartphone solutions for e-bikes. These include COBI.Bike, SmartphoneHuband Smartphone Grip. The principle behind this: You connect your smartphone to your e-bike via an app and the respective mount. The mobile phone becomes the central display.

Brose currently offers three displays that fit every Brose drive and can be retrofitted. In terms of their functions, they are much more minimalist than the competing products from Bosch:

Brose Display Allround: The all-rounder from Brose has a display with a 1.5 inch colour screen and six large buttons for operation. In addition to the usual basic functions, you can also use it to control the low and high beams.

Display A:Das Display A ist Yamahas Minimalist unter den E-Bike-Displays. Geschwindigkeit, Batteriekapazität, Assistenzmodus sowie Reichweite und Kilometerzähler, das war’s. Die LCD-Anzeige lässt sich gut ablesen und das Gerät ist robust. Eine Lösung für Outdoor-Enthusiasten, die das Wesentliche im Blick behalten wollen.

Display C:Das 2,8 Zoll große Farbdisplay C kommt mit Bluetooth und Fitnesstracking. Über eine Verbindung mit deinem Smartphone und beispielsweise Komoot kannst du die Funktionalität des Displays beispielsweise um Navigationsdaten erweitern.

SHIMANO STEPS E8000:The minimalist and compact Shimano Steps E8000colour display is aimed primarily at sporty e-bike riders and mountain bikers. It is mainly used to change riding modes, to take a look at the current speed and to keep up to date with the battery range.

SHIMANO STEPS E7000: The functions of the E7000 include the view of speed, riding time, total distance, cadence, support mode, time and battery level. More options are available when you connect the display to the Shimano E-Tube app.

Control units: Giant’s handlebar-mounted control units are proudly called RideControl. They have a few robust buttons and LED lighting that indicates the battery level, for example. The key differences between the individual models lie in the number of buttons and how they are attached to the handlebars. The RideControl Dash stands out because it is the only one of its kind with a small display.

Displays:RideDash displays come in two versions, RideDash Plus and RideDash Evo. Their functionality can be extended by connecting the display to the RideControl app. Then it can be used as a navigation device – at least in theory. In practice, this usually fails due to the poor functionality of the app.

In addition to the displays mentioned, there are a number of others from brands such as Fischer, Panasonic or Fazua. However, the above examples already give a good impression of the different designs and functions you can expect from a modern bike computer.

Sometimes you are not satisfied with the display of your own e-bike or a defect makes a change necessary. In such cases, it is a good idea to upgrade to another model.

In addition, not every Bosch display fits every e-bike with a Bosch drive. Depending on the year and type of e-bike system, there are major restrictions.

We therefore recommend that you inform yourself before changing the display and ask again before you have an on-board computer and an e-bike that do not fit together.

In more detail, this means that most modern e-bikes have a Bluetooth interface that allows you to connect your smartphone to the bike. In addition, more and more e-bike manufacturers offer their own apps that you can use to access your bike and, for example, change the support. A traditional display with a large screen is then not necessary anymore.

Thanks to the new app, BikeTrax users will not only be able to protect their e-bike from theft, but also use their smartphone as an e-bike display. All services will then come together in one place – from e-bike control and ride statistics to automatic maintenance and service plan, and much more. The connection of the PowUnity BikeTrax GPS tracker to the CAN bus of the e-bike will also allow managing further control functions of the e-bike via one app.

In conclusion, it can be said that the traditional e-bike display still plays an important role on the market. Accordingly, there are many different models from well-known manufacturers. However, the trend is clearly moving towards smart solutions for networking with smartphones.

The fact that these new solutions are sometimes quite expensive for manufacturers as well as end customers, as is the case with Bosch, is more than a downer.

Before the official start of EUROBIKE in Friedrichshafen, Bosch presented its new lineup of products for the coming season. We had the opportunity to take a closer look at Bosh’s new Kiox display, and we’ll tell you what it’s capable of.

Bosch’s Intuvia display is starting to look a bit outdated, and many bike brands have been relying on the compact Purion display instead. With Kiox, Bosch is now introducing a modern alternative to the Intuvia. Thanks to the Bluetooth interface, the Kiox can be paired with your smartphone and adapted to your own preferences. Riders can choose between different views with up to four data fields; if you like, the Kiox will also link up with your heart rate monitor. Further features such as tuning the support levels won’t be available for the time being, but the system will undoubtedly be updated with new functions in the future.

We’ve had a closer look at the new colour display to find out if an upgrade is worthwhile. The exposed placement of the display on the stem is the first thing you’ll notice: the Kiox display is enthroned in the middle of the cockpit, giving you no adjustment options. Both the display and the remote control are relatively large, but the buttons feel solid. Unfortunately, the separate remote leaves a messy trail of cables on the cockpit. Bike manufacturers will have the option of customising the integration of the Kiox display, which we hope will be much more elegant than the Bosch mount.

The 1.9″ display automatically adapts to ambient light, offering a high resolution. Unfortunately, the Gorilla glass is shiny and reflective in direct light. It’s quite susceptible to dirt and smudges too. The colour representation looks nice, but it doesn’t offer any real advantage.

The display is held in place with the help of magnets. As with the Intuvia though, you’ll have to be careful when snapping it into place to ensure everything is properly aligned. The Kiox features an integrated battery that provides up to 20 minutes of power and automatically displays a summary of daily activities when removed from the bike – smart! For the time being, the Kiox display will only be available on complete builds, so no aftermarket retrofitting.

All in all, the new display is a bit of disappointment for eMTBers. The configuration via smartphone app is useful, but further features based on the Bluetooth connection are still missing. The display is appealing, but the readability while riding couldn’t convince us – too bad.

Bosch eBike System is a leader if not the leader with their Integrated Motor, Battery and Display technology used by many Electric Bicycle and eBike Manufacturers.

eBike Central offers eBikes that have all of their Display technology on select models. As an owner of a Bosch eBike System based Electric Bicycle, you can upgrade your display system by having a different Display Technology installed by us.

Here are the Four Options available today from Bosch eBike Systems. Note, Riese & Muller is the only eBike manufacturer offering all four Display Technologies. Several models from Riese & Muller you can choose the Display system that you want. The only eBike company offering that option.

Kiox offers all the functions that a sporty rider could need. In addition to the classic functions of an on-board computer, Kiox also uses the eBike Connect smartphone app and the eBike-Connect online portal to offer eBikers access to the digital world.

Intuvia offers easy and intuitive control of the eBike. The relevant riding data is clearly shown and the display offers ideal readability under all lighting conditions. The separate control unit allows you to keep your hands safely on the handlebar.

For any bicycles with the Purion display, the system can be upgraded to Intuvia, Kiox or Nyon. If the bicycle is a Class 1 (20mph), it can also be upgraded to SmartPhone Hub.

For any bicycles with an Intuvia display, the system can be upgraded to Kiox or Nyon. If the bicycle does not feature e-Shift (Rohloff E-14 or enviolo AUTOMATiQ or Automatic+), it can also be replaced with a Purion display.

For bicycles with a Kiox display, the system can be upgraded under stricter conditions. If the bicycle features FOX e-Suspension, there are no alternatives. For high speed bikes (assist to 28mph), the Kiox can be replaced with a Purion, Intuvia, or Nyon; but if the bicycle features e-Shift, then only the Intuvia or Nyon are viable upgrade options.

For any bicycles with the Nyon, the system can be swapped to a Kiox or Intuvia display. If the bicycle does not feature e-Shift, then the Purion is also an option.

The odometer information is stored in the drive unit, so the total miles your bicycle has been ridden will transfer to your new display. Only if you need to replace your drive unit will your odometer be reset.

You should plan to have the display changed at a certified Bosch dealer. For most changes, it requires redoing the wiring from the display to the drive unit, rearranging many of the other controls on the handlebar, and completing a firmware update through the Bosch dealer software. For stem-mounted displays, other parts may be required as well to set your bicycle up properly.

Great catch @LimboJim, I meant to say "removable like the Intuvia and Nyon" but said Purion by accident (just fixed it). I"m guessing that the display could be an upgrade because the existing three are interchangeable if you buy the wires (from what dealers have told me)... but I reached out to Bosch directly to get some clarification on this and the COBI question.

[UPDATE] I heard back from Bosch and was told that they do not plan on selling the Kiox independently. One welcome update is that it will have a Micro-USB port for both diagnostics AND charging! This is much like the Intuvia and Nyon, whereas the Purion did not have an active charging USB. As for the COBI system not being sold in the US right now, it sounds like Bosch is pursuing UL and other safety certification before entering this market. You may see the product pre-installed on bikes from IZIP, Haibike, and others, but it just hasn"t fully launched in North America yet. It does not appear that the COBI is compatible with the Kiox mount but perhaps they will develop a different interface, to be magnetic and work in the future. Neat to see magnetic Monkey Link accessories and now this display panel from Bosch.

@AlanDB I doubt the Kiox will have GPS because this requires more memory and software updates ongoing. Given the smaller portrait oriented screen size (relative to Nyon) it just doesn"t seem like a fit for now... but I could be wrong. Most people have GPS on their phones and now there"s more room to mount a phone to the handlebar of an ebike with the Kiox being positioned over the stem.

@johnt3 I doubt that most ebikes will have the new Kiox display because it probably costs more. What I see today with the Purion and Intuvia is a tiering setup where less expensive ebikes might opt for the PowerPack 400 and Purion. Some of it comes down to use case, most electric mountain bikes use Purion because it"s more protected and stealthy. I bet that a lot of e-mountain bikes will move to Kiox... I hope it has a USB charging port on it :/
