Why? Because the screens often come back scrached and thus we can not re-sell them in good consious. Many people have purchased this product and when installed it will not work (blank screen). This happens because the main board is programed for one of three versions of the LCD screen. If your main board is not mached with the screen for sale here it will not work unless you re-program it. Before you purchase the LCD please be sure you read though this technical note to see if you have the equipment and technical knowledge to program the main board as indicated above we do not accept returns on this product. If you follow the instruction below the LCD will work with all versions of the pro2 console.

Davis has used different LCD’s for its Vantage Pro2 console over the years. The console utilizes each of these LCD’s in a different manner and needs to be configured properly.

When replacing a console LCD module with a different type of LCD module you must ensure that you configure the console to properly interact with the LCD module. This is done by issuing commands to the console via HyperTerminal. For detailed instruction on setting up HyperTerminal see “Addendum – Using HyperTerminal” at the end of this Note.

Before issuing an LCD configuration command via HyperTerminal you must update the console to the latest firmware from Davis. With old firmware it is likely that the latest LCD command will not be understood. The latest Vantage Pro2 console firmware can be found here, Console Firmware.

There have been three styles of LCD and as a result there are three configuration commands. The commands are ASCII and in all caps. They are LCD 0, LCD 1 and LCD 2.

The best way to determine which command to use with your LCD module is to look at the back of the LCD PCBA. Figures 1, 2 and 3 below show you the three different LCDs and their corresponding commands. Distinguishing markings or components are circled in red.

Once the command was received OK your console and its new LCD should be working properly. If you are purchasing a new LCD and your existing LCD lookes like “LCD 2” pictured below then your new board is plug and play and you will not have to send any commands to the console. If your existing LCD looks like LCD 0 or LCD 1, you will be required to send the command LCD 2 as described above to the console in order for your new LCD to work.
