The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has ended its investigation of 153,817, 5.7-liter and 6.1-liter Hemi V8-powered 2006 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Magnum models after reports of stalling. Chrysler has responded by granting a lifetime warranty on the fuel tanks for these vehicles.

Who is John Varvatos? If you"re like me, that"s the question you were asking after seeing commercials that advertised a limited-edition model of the Chrysler 300 with this mystery man"s name attached. If you"re not like me and consider yourself a fashionista even in the slightest, then you probably already know that John Varvatos is a successful menswear designer who cut his teeth in the fashion houses of Ralph Lauren"s Polo and Calvin Klein. He"s also a native of Detroit, which makes the joining of his brand and that of Chrysler"s more intelligible, what with the Auburn Hills-based automaker still eking efficacy from its nearly three-year-old "Imported from Detroit" tagline.

The second question, meanwhile, can be answered with your eyes alone, as no mechanical changes are included among the Varvatos upgrades. Despite that, the 300C John Varvatos Edition is priced above - well above - all other 300 sedans save the 300 SRT8, suggesting that cool is not sold by the barrel (was it ever?) and Mr. Varvatos is a dealer in the stuff. Yet while I couldn"t actually tell you if John Varvatos was a designer or a ditch digger before Chrysler introduced us, I do like his style, and the man knows how to dress a car.

The Volvo XC60 comes in three basic trim levels with a selection of three engine options. All three drivetrains make use of a 2.0L turbocharged engine that also has a supercharger on it. Such arrangements are rare but do offer the benefit of extremely smooth power across the entire rev range, along with surprisingly good power from such a small engine. The XC60 T5 offers 250 horsepower and up to 27 mpg on the highway. The more powerful T6 engine option bumps power up to 316 horsepower. At the top of the drivetrain ladder sits the gasoline-electric hybrid T8 with 400 horsepower and the ability to hit 26 mpg on the highway.

The most basic trim level for the XC60 is the Momentum trim, which comes well-equipped with standard features that include 18-inch alloy wheels, silver roof rails, LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof with a power sunshade, two-zone climate control, leather seating surfaces, a 10-way power front driver"s seat, Bluetooth, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a 10-speaker 330-watt sound system.

The Nissan Murano is now in its third generation, with styling based on the Nissan Resonance concept from 2013. As such, the Murano strikes an aggressive, futuristic pose. It features Nissan"s V-Motion front end with LED daytime running lights and what Nissan calls a "floating" roof design.

Four trims are offered: S, SV, SL and Platinum. Each is available in either front-wheel drive or Nissan"s Intuitive All-Wheel Drive. Power for all comes from a 3.5L V6 with 260 horsepower and 240 foot-pounds of torque. The engine is mated to Nissan"s XTRONIC continuously variable transmission, which offers a smooth, sporty response with D-Step Logic Control for simulated shifts. The Murano returns an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

Standard safety features include dual stage airbags, anti-lock brakes and dynamic control with traction control. Now standard, Nissan"s Safety Shield 360, includes lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, high-beam assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and rear emergency automatic braking.
