It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a show like this. I am proud to say we sent reporters from rAVe [PUBS] to every single booth at ISE 2023 earlier this month to shoot videos of new (and returning!) products. No other company went to every single booth. We amassed a cache of more than 1,700 videos, and we posted them all on our brand-spanking-new ISE 2023 microsite, which includes over 400 photos from the show floor and 400+ new product news stories and podcasts.
Every year since we’ve been doing this, we’ve given out awards for the “Best of the Best.” The best of everything we saw — and here they are. To help you know why each product won, we’ve included links to the product video we shot on the show floor!
So, if you’re an integrator and see something here that you aren’t selling yet, consider contacting them! Likewise, if you’re an end user reading this, consider adding these to your future rooms — these companies won for a reason!
Christie HS Series 1DLP laser projectors brought to life the fictional planet of Nebula, enthralling audiences with immersive visuals in a dome set up within Dam Sen Cultural Park, a well-known amusement park in Ho Chi Minh City.
Titled “Nebula – The Elemental Lighting Planet”, this unique audiovisual showcase took place in an inflatable dome measuring 15 meters (49 feet) in diameter and 8 meters (26 feet) in height. It employed various technologies including several Christie D20WU-HS laser projectors, interactive lighting, laser effects, and realistic props to transport visitors to an exciting universe inspired by Avatar: The Way of Water. The concept was conceived and executed by Christie’s trusted partner Alta Media, which specializes in systems integration, digital content, and show entertainment technology.
“‘Nebula – The Elemental Lighting Planet’ tells the story of the four elements – air, earth, water, and fire – which are seamlessly weaved together using various technologies to create a compelling show featuring an idyllic universe, planets, and the trees of soul and life that bind everything together,” said Tai Hoang, co-founder & CEO, Alta Media. “Among the highlights of this show were projections accomplished by Christie D20WU-HS projectors installed on opposite sides of the dome. Each projector was equipped with a Navitar fisheye lens and we were able to fill the dome with spectacular images by placing the projectors about 1.8 meters (6 feet) from the ground.”
Hoang noted that the entire production of this project from conceptualization to installation was completed within 10 working days, a feat not easily matched by systems integrators in Vietnam. “Thanks to our prior experience in large-scale, elaborate shows such as The Masked Singer Vietnam and numerous live performances, we were able to put together this elegant showcase using contents exclusively created in-house. I’m pleased that the contents are perfectly matched with the Christie HS Series projectors, which delivered eye-catching visuals that visitors both young and old can fully enjoy and appreciate during the annual Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.”
Jason Yeo, senior sales manager for Southeast Asia, Enterprise, Christie, commented, “Alta Media has outdone itself with this fascinating AV showcase that combines state-of-the-art technology, immense creativity, and masterful storytelling that captivates visitors throughout its 10-day duration. I’m glad that the Christie D20WU-HS, with its high brightness, BoldColor Technology, compact footprint, quiet operation, and omnidirectional capabilities, has delivered an amazing spectacle that makes visitors believe they have arrived on the fictional planet of Nebula.”
Ranging in brightness levels from 7,000-20,600 lumens and resolutions including WUXGA, HD and 4K UHD, Christie HS Series offers a powerful, reliable and cost-effective option for almost any high-use application. Setting benchmarks in brightness, color accuracy, power requirements, and form factor, the HS Series pushes the envelope of what’s possible with 1DLP technology.
Colors look natural and true-to-life thanks to Christie BoldColor Technology while the onboard Christie Twist warping and blending software and optional Christie Mystique automated camera-based alignment tools make setup, alignment, recalibration and maintenance of multi-projector systems quick and easy. With their compact and lightweight form factor and omnidirectional capabilities, HS Series projectors are perfect for challenging, space-limited installations.
The Christie Mirage 4K40-RGB pure laser projectors have formed the centerpiece of a new extension to a research center at IRCAD (Institut de Recherche contre les Cancers de l’Appareil Digestif) located within the University Hospital of Strasbourg, France. IRCAD 3 is the latest addition to the globally recognized surgical research and training institute and the 2,400 square meter (26,000 square foot) hub building dedicated to robotics. AV integrator DEYA installed a pair of Christie Mirage 4K40-RGB projectors in its 237-seat auditorium, delivering 3D and outstanding color reproduction required for specialist learning. A Christie Terra SDVOE-based AV-over-IP solution is used to power content at the auditorium, and the building features a host of IP-connected audiovisual elements throughout, including speakers, microphones, digital signage and video conferencing technologies.
“The aims of the auditorium were above all 4K and 3D, but also to ensure a very immersive experience,” said David Hiltenbrand, Audiovisual Technician at IRCAD. “We wanted, unlike the other auditoriums we had, to have a large, wide projection area so we could display at least five or six images to provide versatility. We were looking for a laser projector with beautiful colorimetry and strong 3D capabilities. The choice naturally turned to Christie, who was the only manufacturer at the time to offer this type of product. We also switched to video over IP throughout the building, and that’s a complete paradigm shift.”
The auditorium is equipped with a fully modular stage space, with the 11.6 meter (38 foot) display powered by two Christie Mirage 4K40-RGB pure laser projectors. The 40,000 lumen projector achieves greater than 95% of Rec.2020 color space, and its 120Hz refresh rate enables 3D applications. The all-in-one projector delivers detailed images, built-in warping and blending, near-field communication monitoring and an at-a-glance preview screen. The auditorium features microphones installed within the seats, a discreet but powerful audio solution, six 4K cameras and a video conferencing system. DEYA — which was responsible for all technology throughout the building — also established an AV control room and implemented an ecosystem of equipment throughout IRCAD 3, all connected over IP with a Christie Terra AV-over-IP solution.
“The 3D element in surgery is very important since it allows you to have the depth ratio to understand the various elements,” said Carlos Alves, head of IRCAD audiovisual department. “Colors are also very important, and obviously everything must be very defined to see all the small vessels and so on. And with 4K resolution and at 60Hz or 120Hz, it allowed us to have all these required elements. The architect has made a magnificent auditorium with waves at ceiling level and leather armchairs. So, we had to combine technology and aesthetics, which was another challenge.”
The outcome is a highly specified center of excellence equipped with powerful AV technology that has blended the required high levels of performance while maintaining the ultra-modern aesthetics of the building.

The wide-ranging refurbishment of the theatre included the addition of reclined seats, an elevated stage and new carpeting, as well as a new audiovisual system. The selection and installation of a new projection system required close collaboration between Solotech, RSA Cosmos – Konica Minolta, the Spark team as well as consultants Bill Peters and Ian McLennan to ensure the best solution for the project. Says Bahar Gumus, Sales Manager, RSA Cosmos – Konica Minolta, “Our teams worked together to understand the project needs, suggest high-quality solutions, install a state-of-the-art digital system and provide the necessary training to the planetarium operators and technical teams.”
“The science centre had very specific technical specifications, including the brightness and the resolution of the system,” says Philippe Giron, account manager, Solotech. To select the projectors best suited to the dome, Solotech organized a shoot-out between high-brightness models, including two blended Griffyn 4K32-RGB projectors.
“The planetarium project team was looking for a digital projection system capable of providing very high levels of brightness, vivid colors, with quiet operation,” adds Gumus. “Christie Griffyn 4K32-RGB was the only projector to answer fully these requirements thanks to the high levels of brightness of 34,000 lumens per projector and very wide color gamut achieved with the RGB laser technology.” The installation included RSA Cosmos – Konica Minolta’s planetarium software SkyExplorer to offer breathtaking journeys through the Universe in real time, along with fun and interactive modules opening the dome to new content beyond astronomy.
The Griffyn 4K32-RGB projector achieves greater than 96% of the Rec.2020 color gamut to produce bright, true-to-life visuals, and operates quietly, at less than 46dBA at full brightness, to keep the focus on the content, not the projector.
Solotech created a 3D cloud point view to visualize every detail of the planetarium, which allowed the teams to plan for the installation and placement of the projectors. Given the dome’s shape, installing the projector mounts were a challenge. “The way the dome is made, there is only a little space between the bottom of the dome and the stage under the seats. We had to put the projector in this space and precisely angle them.” As a result, Solotech created custom-made mounts to exactly fit the projectors within the dome.
With the projection system successfully installed, the dome now delivers the brightest on-screen image of any planetarium in North America, with 272,000 lumens illuminating the massive screen in 8K resolution. “When you are in the dome and you see eight 34,000 lumen projectors at the same time perfectly calibrated, it’s mind-blowing,” says Giron. “Everyone involved was very happy with the results.”
“With our local partner Solotech, we are delighted to have installed this high-performing digital system in one of Canada’s leading planetariums and dynamic science centres, dedicated to innovative education in science and technology, and we are extremely satisfied by the rendering achieved by using Christie projectors,” says Gumus.
Christie provided its RGB pure laser projectors are lighting up the recently refurbished Infinity Dome theatre at TELUS Spark Science Centre in Calgary, Alberta. The dome stands three stories high and 21 meters (69 feet) across, making it one of the largest dome theatres in western Canada, and one of the brightest in North America with eight Christie Griffyn 4K32-RGB pure laser projectors delivering 272,000 lumens. RSA Cosmos – Konica Minolta, global leader in digital planetariums, in partnership with Solotech, global leader in audiovisual and entertainment technology, specified and installed the new digital system.

rePLAY ISE 2022 has officially come to a close, but first, a quick recap of session two. This time, the session contained curated content aimed toward our viewers in the United States rather than Europe. Our hosts, Steph Beckett and Emily Dean, picked out some great content we gathered in Barcelona at ISE 2022 to showcase to viewers. Emily has truly impressed us during her first debut in front of the camera and we can’t wait to find out when we’ll see her in the spotlight again. So, without further ado, here’s a quick overview of session two.
First up during the session was a tour of the show floor with Steph and Gary Kayye during rAVe [TV] that showcased just how busy it was. While Gary couldn’t be there in person, it was still great to hear feedback from him during the tour. Some brands highlighted were Absen with its installs in different shapes, Christie and its logo that showcased microtiles LED and LG and its monorail solution that included a transparent OLED display. Steph and Emily discussed how numerous exhibitors kept up with the theme of showcasing solutions and how they’re meant to be used in “real life.”
Steph then continued her tour that glanced at Panasonic, Crestron’s esports solutions that utilize AV-over-IP, LANG AG’s interactive displays and Samsung’s solutions geared towards retail. Steph and Emily also checked out a short slideshow we put together that showcased even more content from the show floor. Fun fact: We captured over 1,200 pictures!
During our time at ISE 2022, Emily and Steph conducted numerous booth tours and executive interviews with rePLAY ISE 2022 partners. Emily interviewed Rick Corteville on the DTEN stand and they discussed DTEN’s focus on collaboration equity with its solutions, its InfoComm plans and more. Emily then met with Nancy Knowlton from Nureva to talk about the company’s product updates, some company news and some teasers about announcements the company is making at InfoComm.
One trend that was present on the show floor was meeting equity. We watched an interview between Steph Beckett and Scott Wharton of Logitech that addressed meeting equity and how it applies to the Rally Bar, Logi Dock and more. Finally, Emily had a great time touring Epson’s booth with Mark Roslon that showcased projection solutions and new tools for integrators.
Scott Wharton from @LogitechVC joined @stephlbeckett to give us a quick demo of the Rally Bar, one of @gkayye"s favorite products! Want to see what it is? Tune in to #rePLAY #ISE2022 now!
Next up, Steph and Emily highlighted some product videos that they found particularly interesting. To start, we checked out Sharp/NEC’s partnership with Vitra for the Dancing Wall, a mobile partition for flexible zones. As soon as Gary saw this video, he immediately expressed his desire to put some in the rAVe office. Then, we watched Logitech’s demo of their dedicated UCC device intended for home office use — Logi Dock all-in-one Docking Station, speakerphone. During the trade show, Barco made an exciting announcement about its addition of TruePix LED with X/Y/Z-axis adjustments and second-gen Infinipix image processing. We also checked out a debut by Holoplot of its all-new speaker tech, X1 matrix array, with horizontal-vertical control. Finally, we saw Optoma’s feature of its FHDQ130+ all-in-one dvLED display that can be daisy-chained via splice mode.
That was only part one of our product highlights, though! Steph and Emily hand-picked five more products to showcase during session two. Emily talked about Audinate Dante Studio and the addition of video to it. We watched demos from AV Stumpfl of the new PIXERA XR Stage Setup for virtual and XR productions, Jupiter’s Pana 105D 21:9 display in portrait mode for experiential digital signage, C SEED’s outdoor folding LED and BrightSign’s use of gesture recognition for user control in digital signage.
All-in-all we’d call rePLAY ISE 2022 a success. We took over 1,200 pictures and over 800 videos during ISE 2022, so we just skimmed the surface during rePLAY. The two-session event was intended to highlight some new technology we saw and talk about some of the team’s personal favorites from the show floor. If you couldn’t make it to the live event, we have it on demand for you to enjoy at your convenience. Don’t forget to check out our ISE 2022 microsite to find the rest of the content and we will see you for the next show — InfoComm 2022 in Las Vegas! Also, if you haven’t registered for InfoComm yet, do so using the code RAVEto gain free access to the show.
rePLAY ISE 2022 was a success and we’ve got an exciting recap of session one for you! We had an awesome time gathering content in Barcelona for the live event, and we had even more fun showing it to you on the LAVNCH platform. One of the highlights from the trip was Emily Dean stepping into the spotlight and conducting executive interviews and booth tours on the show floor! She co-hosted rePLAY ISE 2022 with Steph Beckett and we couldn’t be prouder of her. Here’s a quick overview of what went down during session one of rePLAY.
We kicked it off with a tour of the show floor that Steph did during rAVe [TV]. She walked by Absen‘s stand, the beautiful microtiles LED that Christie utilized to spell out the company’s name, LG‘s monorail solution and Crestron‘s esports solutions that use AV-over-IP. Steph also passed LANG AG‘s boot that highlighted the VENUS 8K LED Wall and Samsung‘s stand showcasing The Wall.
One of the biggest things that stood out during the tour was the sheer number of individuals on the show floor. Our team was “parting the sea” of people while filming and it truly solidified that trade shows are back and better than ever.
Steph and Emily shot executive interviews and booth tours with our rePLAY partners that they showcased during the session. Steph met with Barco to discuss its TruPix LED Solution that was launched at ISE and gained a lot of attention from attendees. Re Mago and Jupiter talked to Emily about Re Mago’s Valarea collaboration software shown on Jupiter’s 21:9 display. If you couldn’t make it to ISE 2022, don’t worry, the companies will be showcasing it again at InfoComm 2022! Emily also spoke with Ian Barnard of Sharp/NEC to discuss the joint venture and how ISE was the first time the two have debuted together. She also met with Matrox for a stand tour with Rob Moody and discussed interoperability!
Matrox is all about interoperability, #AVtweeps. Emily Dean talked with Rob Moodey at #ISE22022 and got a first-hand look at their #AVoverIP solutions.
Our team shot over 800 videos during the trade show, but the goal with rePLAY ISE 2022 was to showcase the new technology we saw on the show floor. Steph and Emily created a lineup of curated content that directly applied to our European viewers during the first session. They kicked off the video highlights in the IoT hall, where FIWARE used a LEGO city to demonstrate Its open-source software for context-data management. Up next was LANG AG’s show-stopping 1.5-millimeter pixel pitch VENUS, 8K resolution LED wall, Artome’s M10 portable all-in-one Smart Furniture solution with an Epson projector, Sharp/NEC’s Vitra Dancing Wall, which was a mobile partition for flexible zones and SMS Evoko Group’s Peggy, which was a pegboard solution for mounting displays, projectors and more. Steph and Emily then moved on to play videos from StudioBricks about its Studio One sound booth, domeprojection.com‘s demo of its free app that quickly aligns sacked projectors, Chromateq‘s Touch 1024, RPG’s demo of the eoSmart Digital Console and finally, Beckhoff‘s XPlanar solution for projection mapping. These were just a few of many videos we captured from European companies on the show floor and plenty more can be found on the ISE 2022 microsite!
Steph Beckett caught up with our good friend Gordon Dutch from Re-Sauce at the show! They discussed how the show was going and Gordon expressed his opinions on Barcelona as the new home base for ISE.
One of the best parts about returning to in-person trade shows is catching up with our fellow AVtweeps from around the world. Steph hadn’t seen Gordon since 2020 and said it was great finally getting to connect again. This viewpoint was shared by exhibitors and attendees alike. While we can virtually connect, nothing compares to the value of face-to-face interaction.<
All-in-all, session one of rePLAY ISE 2022 was a success! Our team was pleasantly surprised by the number of individuals who traveled to Barcelona to attend ISE 2022! Catch all of this content and more by checking the two rePLAY ISE 2022 sessions on-demand and find the rest of the content we captured at the show on the ISE 2022 microsite.

It’s finally here — rePLAY 2021 is officially live on the LAVNCH platform! We’re so excited to bring you three days of content, including InfoComm 2021 coverage, playing THE GAME, words from sponsors and so much more. We wanted to create an event that recapped the year that was and is 2021 for all our #AVtweeps out there. Here’s a quick rundown from Day of 1 of rePLAY.
rePLAY 2021 kicked off yesterday with a recap of how InfoComm 2021 went in Orlando, Florida. Gary, Steph and Megan all attended the in-person show and recounted their experience. The trio agreed that this InfoComm was about networking and people. Gary was particularly excited about Legrand, Sony, LG and Samsung product announcements during the show, though many of them weren’t actually on the show floor. The rAVe team shot over 420 videos at the show, so check out our InfoComm microsite to see those products.
Gary recounted that he had time this InfoComm to focus on conversations and wasn’t rushed between appointments because booths weren’t so spread out and busy. Some booths didn’t have products — they focused on people.
The trio showed footage from the InfoComm floor during rePLAY, showing off the Virtual VR Studio from Absen Inc, Gridd Mobile from FreeAxez, XPressPlay Instant Media Player from Theatrixx and much more! These videos are not sponsored but are some of the amazing products we wanted to share with you from the show. Don’t miss videos from the InfoComm show floor – you can learn more about rePLAY 2021 Day 1 right here.
If you know rAVe, then you know THE GAME! We weren’t able to play it like normal this year, so of course, being in AV, we virtualized it for you! You can play THE GAME on the rePLAY 2021 page by clicking the “Play THE GAME” tab, where you can watch videos to earn points. The points will be tallied together to allow you to enter to win prizes! One of the grand prizes this year is a Bartesian Cocktail Maker! Other prizes include Bluetooth speakers, gift cards, rAVe sunglasses, T-shirts and more.
Gary was joined by David Buchholz of Intel to discuss the new Unite solution.Unite by Intel is a cloud-based collaboration and videoconferencing platform that works across multiple operating systems and offers many ways to join. The pair also discussed other Intel products that work with Unite, but at InfoComm 2021, Unite took the cake as one of the most impressive products at the show. A lot of development went into Unite during the pandemic because of its ability to aid in the hybrid higher ed market. The update of bringing Unite to the cloud allowed for more added features that will make education spaces safer, such as traffic and space monitoring.
Unite isn’t just for education, though, as many new features will be useful for healthcare spaces as well, such as point-to-point videoconferencing. The tool focuses on ways to bring people back to the office, to work, to education and more in a safe and collaborative manner. Unite uses an open stack API to allow for integration with many different UC platforms. David said there is a big demand for using the e-whiteboard, so Unite has partnered with many companies that have plug-ins to work with Unite for using e-whiteboards.
Megan and Alesia Hendley of Audinate spoke about their time together at InfoComm 2021. Alesia’s favorite part of the show, outside of the products, was the Almo networking event and the AtlasIED party. She enjoyed the ability to network with others in AV. On the show floor, Alesia didn’t get to see as much of the virtual reality tech as she wanted, but she did particularly like the UCC area. Intel’s Unite was one of her favorite products, and she thinks it will really benefit higher ed and corporate markets as we continue to navigate the future of the hybrid workplace.>
The pair also discussed Alesia’s time at the Van Gogh Experience! We covered this case study in a rAVe [TV] episode as well. Alesia got to experience the exhibit in Tampa, Florida, and she enjoyed seeing “vintage art done in a new, modern way.” Seeing how AV brought this classic art to life was wonderful, Alesia said, and she loved that it was an immersive experience done with projection mapping that included both video and audio. In fact, Alesia believes there’s a big future for immersive experiences and extended reality. AV for the win!
It’s back, and this time it’s season 2! We brought you the live season premiere of SDVoE LIVE!, along with a partnership between rAVe and SDVoE to continue showing the episodes on the LAVNCH platform! After a summer break, SDVoE LIVE! is back with updated coverage that the audience wants. This season will offer more time with guests and take some time to focus on people in the ProAV space, not just the products. This episode covered the state of AV-over-IP as seen at InfoComm 2021 this year. Our very own Gary Kayye was the guest for this episode and spoke with hosts Justin Kennington and Matt Dodd.
Gary offered his take on InfoComm 2021 and how the AV-over-IP market was presented at the show this year. They focused on signal distribution products; Gary says the number one thing that will accelerate AV-over-IP into 2022 is the adoption of NDI into multiple brands. He also says that availability will be more important to AV-over-IP than technology adoption, as it will impact the timeframe of AV-over-IP delivery and growth.
Gary also said this show would change the way future shows happen. He is confident future shows won’t die out as people predict, but companies will have to come up with ways to use trade shows as a focal point for their brand. Trade shows will be more about building relationships rather than showing flashy new products. Because conferencing and online capabilities are so prevalent these days, companies will use their online platforms to showcase their products and save the trade shows for connection.
Steph spoke with rAVe writer Lee Distad during rePLAY 2021. Lee has been with rAVe for many years, and when he submits his columns, he always sends a picture of his dogs, Pickles and Piper. We have him pay dog tax for story submission here at rAVe! Lee talked about his year in the industry — both the good and the bad.
Lee says that 2020 was challenging, but 2021 was challenging in different ways. He hasn’t traveled much at all in 18 months and has been working from home. He took the time to reach out to more customers during this time; he wanted to focus on meeting all his customer’s needs, which meant also talking about their personal lives. It’s important to keep in touch with our friends in the industry, especially since we’ve been so cut off from the world for so long.
Gary was joined by today’s Rants and rAVes guest, Steve Capling, director of global enterprise marketing at Christie, to talk about the plethora of new products the company has introduced in 2021. Working with THE rAVe Agency during rePLAY 2021,

Spooky season has arrived. It’s time to bust out the pumpkins, ghouls and goblins. But how can you make your Halloween setup hauntingly cool? By using audiovisual equipment, obviously!
The application of good AV can help “resurrect” your dead Halloween decorations … without the incantations! Here are two YouTube tutorials that I think will be helpful.
To create the most realistic, immersive Halloween experience, I’d start with our new Inspire Series of projectors. The DWU960-iS features 8100 lumens and up to 20,000 hours of virtually maintenance-free operation, to projection map a house with bright, creepy visuals.
And to deliver the ultimate projection mapping experience, I’d use Christie Pandoras Box Version 8 with its built-in warping capabilities to perfectly match the content to every feature of the house. Pandoras Box’s timeline will also allow me to program synchronized video and audio assets. Those could be little faces on pumpkins starting to talk or shadows projected to the windows with spooky sounds, which could come from remote speakers in or around the house. If those support Dante audio, it just requires a network connection and you are all set. I also recommend using triggers from little sensors in the front yard to track people who are passing by to make it an interactive experience. Together, this will create the scariest house on the block!
Create spooktacular holographic displays that are not old-hat. Halloween is a great time of year for brands and retail stores to engage with their audiences, boost their sales and increase brand loyalty. However, with the commercial clutter everywhere, it is really important to create something that stands out and catches the audience’s attention. Using a single holographic display like HYPERVSN Solo, or including a hologram into your window display, can be a great way to stun your customers. Alternatively, if you are looking to make an even bigger spooky splash, use the holographic HYPERVSN Wall to create an entire holographic shop window display or 3D billboard. A floating pumpkin, a wafting ghost, a flying witch, nothing could be more perfect for this seasonal content than adding a 3D holographic element. Say goodbye to witch hats and hello haunted holograms.
The secret to bringing a Halloween set-up to life, no matter the backdrop or architectural space, is high-quality AV technology, specifically projector technology. When choosing a projector to integrate into your Halloween-themed exhibit, it’s important to select a solution that is capable of sharp and bright 4K visuals, incorporates projection mapping and edge blending capabilities, and is compact in design for flexible installation. These features create a seamless and interactive experience and allow guests to be fully immersed into the suspenseful and spooky nighttime scenes.
To celebrate Halloween at Bravo Media, we took advantage of a transparent Planar OLED display to create a uniquely spooky welcome message to folks visiting the studio. The transparency really heightens the surprise factor!
Sometimes, what is often forgotten about is the visual narrative to the experience and how you bring the audience into it. You have the perfect opportunity to transcend the lines of the space with projection, lighting and various other effects to draw people in. I love those experiences that make you curious enough to move in closer and those that use lighting (and other visual effects) to trick your mind into believing it’s something else. I don’t think it’s necessarily having multiple “gags”, but that one or two enough visual tricks to leave your audience asking for more.
Halloween is entirely about atmosphere! Case in point — a forest late at night isn’t necessarily creepy feeling. It could feel very comforting. But if a low line fog roles in, and the creatures of the night are rather rambunctious, you now are igniting other senses. The dampened visibility, the feeling of the fog and the added sounds all drastically change the feeling about the same woods. With that said, you can’t control mother nature, but you can drop in audio visual elements to drastically enhance the immersion of a setup.
Fog is your friend. You can control its output relatively easily with simple triggers, which are good to reduce fog consumption, and to make more impact.
Projection can go such a long way in elevating the Halloween factor. Even small pico projectors can be used to create really wild effects and visualizations.
With all these tips and tricks, we’re sure you’ll have the best Halloween yet. Don’t forget to share your best Halloween setups with us on Twitter. Mention @rAVePUBS and we’ll be sure to retweet!
First introduced in 2007, “the M Series packed a lot of features in a small package,” said Larry Paul, executive director, Technology and Custom Solutions, Christie. “Features like the intelligent lens system and embedded Twist for blending and warping were unique at the time, plus its small size and weight, helped it to become Christie’s best-selling line of projectors and lenses.”
The new 25,000-lumen 4K UHD resolution M 4K25 RGB pure laser projector includes a form factor weighing in at 92 lbs. RGB pure laser technology delivers twice the color of the original M Series for images that approach Rec. 2020 color volume.
With TruLife+ electronics all the needed connections are built-in, eliminating the need for optional input cards. TruLife+ also features electronic color convergence (ECC), which allows users to correct color convergence imperfections and individually adjust red, green, and blue via remote. Christie’s intelligent lens system (ILS1) makes swapping lenses easy for rental and staging, and offers motorized zoom, focus and offset via remote. Existing Christie owners can use their M, J and Crimson Series lenses, as well as the M Series rigging frame, with the M 4K25 RGB for added cost savings.
Christie’s proprietary precision pixel-shift technology, which reduces or eliminates typical artifacts found in other pixel-shifting technologies, provides UHD 4K resolution at up to 60Hz. With the optional Mirage upgrade, the M 4K25 RGB can support up to UHD 4K at a full 120 Hz for 2D and 3D stereoscopic applications, and the optional Mirage Pro upgrade can support frame rates up to 480Hz at UHD resolution.
“The new M 4K25 RGB doubles the brightness, doubles the color volume capability, and quadruples the resolution over our legacy M Series projectors,” said Paul. “And with an unprecedented 50,000 hours of illumination performance and a field replaceable light source, we’ve gone way beyond the legacy of the M Series as an industry workhorse in terms of long life and durability.”
ProAV is at a crossroads today. And it’s not just because so many of us are working from home and don’t know what the commercial/business space will look like in three months, even with well-researched predictions. Big innovations in ProAV were happening long before COVID-19, but the pandemic has expedited — expedited like the first three seconds of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney in Orlando — the changes we’re seeing, and living, now.
Here’s our wrap-up story capturing some of those trends and changes discussed for ProAV Day of LAVNCH WEEK 2.0, held in partnership with the National Systems Contractors Association (NSCA). ProAV Day would not have been possible without Christie, SDVoE and HDBaseT, whose support today enabled us to have these conversations on the LAVNCH WEEK platform. To them, and to all our presenters, we offer a huge thank you for being catalysts of education for our industry.
Problem-solving starts with putting people at the center — emphasizing, most importantly, empathy. This is called design thinking, and it’s a concept that Laurie Englert explained in her keynote, proving that the process can make the customer experience (CX) not just good but amazing.
To start, Laurie reminded us of our mission as AV integrators, tech managers, designers, consultants, etc.: we need to be the best possible partner to our customers. Two proven, tested methods to do it? Design thinking and journey mapping.
We spoke to Laurie before this keynote to learn a bit more about design thinking and journey mapping. Her helpful explanation: “I consider Design Thinking the innovation framework that continually helps us improve the customer journey. Design Thinking can be used on a variety of different types of projects, from developing a new product to improving a service issue like even making ‘returns’ a positive experience for partners. A journey map is a look from the customer’s lens as they interact with Legrand | AV — from the time they first become a customer to the product research they perform to their after-sale support experience.” Laurie added that, during that journey, the customer has good experiences and bad experiences. When the experience is not so good, it’s a “cliff.” Customer experience teams can dive into those cliffs and find the unmet needs to surprise customers and outperform competitors. How do you do it? Design thinking.
As promised in the interview, this session’s deeper dive was spot-on. What I learned is that design thinking is not a siloed process — it’s collaboration. It’s “fast-fail.” If you think you don’t have time for design thinking, Laurie advises you to think again. Journey mapping and design thinking are a mindset — concepts that, if coddled at the beginning of the project/relationship, could provide bigger, better results (e.g., returns!).
“It’s not like spending hours behind a computer,” Laurie said. It’s prototyping, testing with customers, using real materials. “It’s show, not tell,” she added. Once you get customer feedback in the design-thinking process, then you can start to build out your project plan, Laurie explained. But to be successful with design thinking, it really should be embedded into your organization. It’s not an afterthought.
If you’re going to debate the future of AV integration, do it with someone who’s been there, done that. That’s Chuck Wilson, executive director of the NSCA. Chuck led our LAVNCH & LEARN session with rAVe co-founder Gary Kayye; in it, the two pulled out their rhetorical crystal balls and talked AV commercial integration in 2020 and beyond.
What are integrators concerned with now? Chuck pointed out the reality — that integrators are already dealing with growing concerns like funding from PPP running out, summer/fall employment decisions, employee safety, job sites opening, essential services, cost-savings measures over the summer, etc. According to Chuck, the number-one concern he’s hearing from integrators today is finding creative, new technologies that will help them keep revenue flowing. Cash flow is the number-one concern going into Q3 and Q4 of 2020 … and into 2021.
What can integrators do tomorrow? Turns out integrators can’t wait until tomorrow. Chuck’s advice is to pay attention to the budgeting — know what’s coming in and going out — as we will essentially have 9 months of revenue against 12 months of expenses (a hit on the P&L) this year. Financial stress-testing (doing a 30/60/90 day cash-flow analysis) is a start, as liquidity, receivables and collections are top of mind. When an integrator calls Chuck Wilson today, he gives a few pieces of advice: an important one is about leadership — leading through a crisis is a first for many leaders/managers. You can be empathetic and listen while also setting an example for your partners and employees.
Gary and Chuck continued to discuss the (what seems to be neverending, right?) AV vs. IT debate, particularly in UCC. The two shared similar opinions on a potential new look at AV integrators as “trusted advisors” not just focused on products or projects.
Consider that a bunch of new technologies are already emerging from the security/life safety world and presenting themselves to AV integrators — thermal-detection cameras, spacing technologies, telehealth solutions, AI, facial recognition solutions, etc. Chuck adds that, basically, what we’ve been doing in healthcare can be applied to all workplaces now.
As far as the future of the integration channel, look out for a coming-soon series of articles from the NSCA on the future of … you name it. One, for example, will be about the future of the HR department. Another will be about the future of the site visit. Another about the future of telehealth. All the articles will relate to how we’re going to return to work and get revenue flowing again, possibly even break open the bottle of pent-up demand for integrators as service providers, helping end users build their businesses back through the tech solutions we provide.
Five-ish years into this technology (AV-over-IP) shipping and there’s still no adopted standard. So we wanted to do this panel a little differently: Instead of just talking about the available streaming protocols out there, like AV-over-IP, we wanted to get into it. We invited the major players in signal compression to hop on a call, and we started peeling back the layers. We talked 10G vs. 1G, security, industry-wide adoption, interoperability and A WHOLE LOT more. If you don’t like conflict, don’t watch this panel. Personally, though, I don’t know who wouldn’t have wanted to be a fly on the wall for this. The panel participants were:
To recap the session in a short write-up would be a disservice to the great, albeit heated, debate that played out. So I’ll direct you to Mark Coxon’s blog post on it instead.
For kicks, I’ll drop in a couple comments that came out of the live panel chat feature (they’re all from anonymous sources who did not name themselves). Some I added for laughs.
“I agree with the argumentation being disappointing. Options are good and the solution that fits one design doesn"t necessarily fit another... That"s why we have Systems Design Engineers and we aren"t just putting the same solution in all spaces/applications…”
“Security is a HUGE driver that most of these solutions overlook. The vast majority of enterprise networks have no effective management for multicast traffic as well.”
“I agree that enough of the "smaller" players outside of Extron and Crestron will have to adopt a standard for those guys to have incentive to get on board. Right now, they are still using the old playbook of exclusivity until they are forced to change.”
