Viewing a different resolution requires either a video scaler that causes blur and jagged edges, or running the display at native resolution with 1:1 pixel mapping, which either does not fill the screen (letterbox display) or runs from the bottom or right edges of the screen. Although the microfiber should pose little to no risk to the screen, avoiding cleaning in small circular motions avoids the risk of creating stains or swirl marks on the surface of the screen by avoiding cleaning in small circular motions. Custom pixel response time is also important because all displays have inherent latency when displaying an image that can be large enough to create visual artifacts when the displayed image changes rapidly. The LEDs can be placed: Along the bottom The top and bottom of the left and drive side of all four sides of the are not local dimming functions in edge-lit displays, so they cannot create images as high quality as those created by full array LEDs. This means training your children not to smash their snacks covered hands against the TV to reach Bob the Builder, and train your spouse, not tapping the pad of their finger on the laptop screen to emphasize what they are trying to show you. You will have seen a pop-up to this effect on your first visit to this website; although it will not normally appear on subsequent visits, you can revoke your consent at any time by following the instructions below. If the applied voltage is large enough, the liquid crystal molecules in the middle of the layer are almost completely turned off, and the polarization of the incident light is not rotated when passing through the liquid crystal layer. Cookies collect information in an anonymous form, including the number of visitors to the website from which visitors and visitors came to the website, and the pages they visited. Each pixel has three separate backlights that can shine through the red, blue, or green color filter — so a pixel can emit a specific color. They are also less susceptible to “bleeding” or “clouds” at the edges of the screen, which use such screens good candidates for movie lovers and beautiful for general work. A color range that exceeds the content displayed on the screen has no benefits, so displays can only run within or below the range of a specific specification. Most of the time you will look at brighter and more colorful shades, where these displays stand out, but it"s always worth looking beyond figures on paper. The physics of the blue phase mode LCDs suggest that very short switching times (about 1 ms) can be achieved, so that sequential color control can be realized and expensive color filters would be outdated. The less you need to clean your screen, the better, and things like skin oil and other attachments are so much harder to get than simple things like dust particles. The choice of resolutions, less price and color performance expands their attractiveness beyond the “color-critical” work, making them attractive candidates for other applications, including gaming and general desktop work. By controlling the voltage applied over the liquid crystal layer in each pixel, light can pass in different quantities and thus form different shades of gray. When liquid touches the edge of these finely layered screens, this liquid can easily enter the layers by capillary action, just as water quickly moves over a piece of fabric that touches it. Based in South Korea, Samsung has become one of the world"s leading electronic brands, and its main competitor is LG. Their lineup includes some monitors with IPS panels, but many have VA panels with a curved screen. Although VA panels look great in dark rooms, the main downside is that they have narrow viewing angles, which isn"t ideal for sharing your screen with others. They"ve even started including Mini LED backlighting on high-end models, further improving the picture quality, peak brightness, and dark room performance. It helps that Samsung already produces TVs with this Mini LED technology, so they"ve become an industry leader for monitors with it.
Samsung offers the best features and performance with their high-end models like the Samsung LS32BG852NNXGO, known as the Neo G8, and lower-end models tend to sacrifice features and performance for a lower cost. For example, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75 is a step down from the Neo G8 and costs less, but it has a lower 165Hz refresh rate compared to 240Hz on the Neo G8. It means that Samsung"s best options are their high-end ones, as their budget displays, like the Samsung Odyssey G3 S24AG30, have limited performance.
Liquid-crystal display (LCD) monitors are the most common today. They generally consist of a liquid crystal panel and a fluorescent backlight system located at the back of the screen. The images are shown when the light from the feedback system hits the screen.
LCD monitors are characterized by their flat, thin, and durable screens. Besides, they have had integrated LED feedback for some years now, which is why manufacturers often talk about LED LCDs. These monitors generally have low energy consumption and are affordable.
LCD monitors have many benefits to offer. As we just mentioned, they have extremely low energy consumption, and you can find very affordable models. They also allow you to enjoy very vivid colors and high definition levels.
You will have to evaluate a series of key criteria before you can choose the LCD monitor that best fits your needs. Since we want to make your life easier, we have selected the most important aspects to consider and have detailed them in the following section. This will help you sort through the wide array of options on the market, and you will know how to pick a monitor that offers the performance and value for the money you’re looking for.
You won’t want the same type of monitor if you often play video games on your computer or if you only use it for browsing the internet and office tasks. This is why the very first aspect you should think about is how exactly you plan on using your LCD monitor.
Even if you are looking for a gaming monitor, you will have to choose a model suitable for the type of game you play. If you are into competitive games, you should choose one with a low response time. For graphic design or to view content in high definition, on the other hand, your best bet will be a VA panel.
The screen size of a monitor is generally expressed as a function of the length of its diagonal in inches. The size of the screen you choose should, in part, be determined by the area of your home or office where you want to fit the monitor. That being said, the vast majority of LCD monitors currently vary between 24 and 27 inches in size.
Did you know that LCD, called liquid-crystal display, means that electrical pulses form the basis for the alignment of the crystals, which produce different colors due to their uneven light transmission?
As we briefly mentioned earlier, there are three main types of panels for monitors and TVs: TN, IPS, and VA. Each one has its own features and is more tailored to a specific type of use.
We have entered the age of 4K resolution, and we are already starting to talk about 8K resolutions. In any case, if you use your computer for navigation or office tasks, Full HD resolution will be plenty enough for you. This is quite different if you want to play video games intensively.
If this is your case, you should start your search by looking at monitors with 4K resolution. Do keep in mind that a high-quality LCD monitor isn’t enough; you still need to have a powerful enough computer. Since more and more 4K content is being released, you may also be interested in these monitors if you are a cinephile.
High dynamic range (HDR) technology has become increasingly common in monitors and televisions in the last few years. It makes it possible to offer colors that are much closer to those we can see in reality. Another fantastic benefit of HDR is that it can independently illuminate different areas of the monitor.
This high-dynamic range means that you can enjoy a higher contrast in the image. The main advantages of this technology are, therefore, the illumination of the different scenes and the incredibly vivid colors it offers. Remember that there are currently different HDR standards: HDR10, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG.
The video ports are naturally the most important connectors on a monitor. The most efficient and widely used is the HDMI port, so we strongly encourage you to choose a model with at least two. Depending on what equipment you want to connect your monitor to, you may also need a VGA or DVI port—especially for older computers.
The greatest advantage of the HDMI port is that it also allows you to transmit audio. DVI ports, on the other hand, support higher refresh rates. You may also think about the DisplayPort connection as it offers the best bandwidth. As you can imagine, it’s never a bad idea to have an LCD monitor with a couple of USB ports as well.
Currently, the vast majority of manufacturers use the 16:9 aspect ratio. That said, the more recent 21:9 aspect ratio is increasingly common. It allows us to work with high diagonals and for tasks where you need many windows at the same time, including the use of multimedia equipment.
There is a common misconception that having a higher image resolution is necessarily better. Actually, this isn’t always true. If you decide to purchase a monitor between 21 and 24 inches, the most convenient option is Full HD (1080p) resolution. From 24 inches onward, it"s recommended that you choose 4K models.
If you are an avid gamer, on the other hand, you may also be interested in the 1440p resolution, which won’t be so heavy on your graphics card. Don’t hesitate to go for an HDR 4K monitor if you have a desktop computer with a powerful graphics card or a gaming console. The latest video games will be perfect for you to make the most of this resolution.
First of all, there is often a direct relationship between the size of the screen and the price of the monitor. However, we’re sure you will have guessed that it isn’t the only influencing factor in the final cost of the product. The type of panel is another element that plays a significant role in this, the three main ones being TN, VA, and IPS.
The most expensive panels are currently the IPS models, although their price has dramatically decreased in recent years. Also, the image resolution and HDR technology are factors to consider in the final cost of an LCD monitor. If you are looking for a gaming model, keep in mind that they often integrate specific technologies to offer better in-game performance and are, therefore, more expensive.
Most laptops feature a VGA or HDMI connector through which you can connect them to a monitor. In any case, you can always establish the connection using a USB Type-C port. This will allow you to enjoy one of two different things: a larger screen or the possibility of having a dual-screen setup.

Founded in April 1993, Chinese mainland is the largest manufacturer of display panels and a provider of Internet of things technology, products and services. At present, BOE has reached the first place in the world in the fields of notebook LCD screen, flat panel LCD screen, mobile phone LCD screen and so on. With its successful entry into Apple"s supply chain, it will soon become the top three LCD panel manufacturers in the world.
Flat-panel displays are thin panels of glass or plastic used for electronically displaying text, images, or video. Liquid crystal displays (LCD), OLED (organic light emitting diode) and microLED displays are not quite the same; since LCD uses a liquid crystal that reacts to an electric current blocking light or allowing it to pass through the panel, whereas OLED/microLED displays consist of electroluminescent organic/inorganic materials that generate light when a current is passed through the material. LCD, OLED and microLED displays are driven using LTPS, IGZO, LTPO, and A-Si TFT transistor technologies as their backplane using ITO to supply current to the transistors and in turn to the liquid crystal or electroluminescent material. Segment and passive OLED and LCD displays do not use a backplane but use indium tin oxide (ITO), a transparent conductive material, to pass current to the electroluminescent material or liquid crystal. In LCDs, there is an even layer of liquid crystal throughout the panel whereas an OLED display has the electroluminescent material only where it is meant to light up. OLEDs, LCDs and microLEDs can be made flexible and transparent, but LCDs require a backlight because they cannot emit light on their own like OLEDs and microLEDs.
Liquid-crystal display (or LCD) is a thin, flat panel used for electronically displaying information such as text, images, and moving pictures. They are usually made of glass but they can also be made out of plastic. Some manufacturers make transparent LCD panels and special sequential color segment LCDs that have higher than usual refresh rates and an RGB backlight. The backlight is synchronized with the display so that the colors will show up as needed. The list of LCD manufacturers:
Organic light emitting diode (or OLED displays) is a thin, flat panel made of glass or plastic used for electronically displaying information such as text, images, and moving pictures. OLED panels can also take the shape of a light panel, where red, green and blue light emitting materials are stacked to create a white light panel. OLED displays can also be made transparent and/or flexible and these transparent panels are available on the market and are widely used in smartphones with under-display optical fingerprint sensors. LCD and OLED displays are available in different shapes, the most prominent of which is a circular display, which is used in smartwatches. The list of OLED display manufacturers:
MicroLED displays is an emerging flat-panel display technology consisting of arrays of microscopic LEDs forming the individual pixel elements. Like OLED, microLED offers infinite contrast ratio, but unlike OLED, microLED is immune to screen burn-in, and consumes less power while having higher light output, as it uses LEDs instead of organic electroluminescent materials, The list of MicroLED display manufacturers:

LCDs are made in a glass substrate. For OLED, the substrate can also be plastic. The size of the substrates are specified in generations, with each generation using a larger substrate. For example, a 4th generation substrate is larger in size than a 3rd generation substrate. A larger substrate allows for more panels to be cut from a single substrate, or for larger panels to be made, akin to increasing wafer sizes in the semiconductor industry.

Of course, if you’ve had a bad experience with a certain company’s product or customer service, it’s understandable that you’ll want to try your luck with another brand.
So, in this article, we won’t be focusing on things like brand customer service as it obviously varies from person to person, region, and/or the nature of the problem.
Instead, we’ll cover the best-selling monitors by the most popular brands and briefly go over the company, what they do right, what could be improved, etc.
Previous-generation VA panels had significantly slower response times, which resulted in prominent smearing behind fast-moving objects in dark scenes.
The fast 1ms GtG response time speed in combination with the main asset of the VA technology, which is high contrast ratio, make these Samsung models ideal for those who want both: responsive gameplay and immersive image quality with deep blacks. on a LED-backlit screen
Additionally, these were the first monitors with an aggressive 1000R screen curvature that’s meant to match the natural curvature of the human eye for an improved viewing experience, but not everyone’s a fan of such steep screen curvature.
The Neo models go a step further by implementing mini LED FALD (full-array local dimming) backlights for significant improvements in peak brightness and contrast ratio, thus delivering a true HDR viewing experience.
Another thing worth noting is Samsung’s firmware updates, which have on many occasions fixed or at least improved the performance and/or image quality of their monitors.
For instance, they added the VRR Control option to the Odyssey G7 models to address the brightness flickering issue and added variable refresh rate support to their S27R750 gaming monitor.
Of course, it would’ve been better if these issues didn’t exist in the first place, but better to have them fixed late than never – which can be the case with some other models or monitor manufacturers.
We mentioned brightness flickering. This issue is often associated with high refresh rate VA gaming monitors regardless of the panel manufacturer (Samsung, AUO, CSOT, etc.).
Samsung finally acknowledged the issue on their Odyssey models, and they’ll hopefully do the same with their other gaming monitors capable of firmware updates.
They added a VRR Control option to the OSD menu, which once enabled, prevents brightness flickering. Sadly, it replaces it with occasional micro-stuttering and increased input lag, so you’ll have to pick your poison.
VRR brightness flickering is characterized as rapid jumps in picture brightness with unsteady frame rates when a variable refresh rate (FreeSync or G-SYNC Compatible) is enabled.
It usually also occurs in in-game menus and loading screens and when your FPS sits around the LFC threshold (usually ~48FPS for AMD cards and ~60FPS for NVIDIA GPUs).
Keep in mind that this issue only affects some units of monitors. So, one unit of the S27R750, for instance, might have noticeable brightness flickering, but another unit may not suffer from this issue at all.
Since VA panels aren’t used for serious color-grading anyway due to gamma/saturation shifts, this is usually not deal-breaking to most users, but it can be if you’re buying one of Samsung’s wide gamut IPS monitors, such as the
While the popular Dell Alienware AW3423DW monitor uses Samsung’s (panel manufacturer) QD-OLED panel, Samsung (monitor manufacturer) is yet to release their model using the same panel, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8.
Since Samsung’s model won’t be using a G-SYNC module, they have a chance to make an even more popular product as it can be cheaper and feature DSC support, more connectivity options and requires no cooling fan.
However, Samsung opted to clutter up their model with integrated smart features (which most gamers don’t want), so it might be even more expensive than the AW3423DW with a G-SYNC module.
In the meantime, Dell will be releasing the AW3423DWF model without G-SYNC for $1,100, while MSI and Philips also have their own models based on the QD-OLED panel in the works.
Another interesting model is the Odyssey Ark with a 55″ 4K 165Hz curved mini LED FALD panel and the upcoming upgraded version of the Odyssey Neo G9 with an 8K ultrawide resolution and DisplayPort 2.1.
The LG 27GL83A, for instance, is a 27″ 1440p 144Hz IPS gaming monitor with 1ms GtG that goes for ~$300. It has pretty much made all similar TN models obsolete as they go for around the same price yet offer inferior image quality and narrow viewing angles.
Later, LG applied this fast IPS technology to other models with higher resolutions too, including the LG 27GN950 (4K 144Hz) and the LG 34GP83A (3440×1440 144Hz ultrawide).
What LG does better than most manufacturers is the sRGB emulation mode. All of their newer wide-gamut monitors, usually with 98% DCI-P3 or 135% sRGB, have proper sRGB clamps that restrict the color output to ~100%.
Additionally, they’ve addressed several important issues via firmware updates, including greatly reducing input lag of the LG 34GK950F model and fixing the sRGB mode, hardware calibration, and overclocking on the LG 27GN950.
They’re also the first company to bring back the A-TW polarizers that help with viewing angles and IPS glow, used in their LG 32GQ950 and 32GQ850 models.
Alongside Acer, ASUS offers state-of-the-art display technology, usually based on panels by AU Optronics, such as the ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ with full-array local dimming solutions and G-SYNC Ultimate for the true HDR viewing and gaming experience.
So, if you want the absolute best gaming monitor, it’ll often be one of ASUS’ or Acer’s models, and it won’t be cheap, such as the $3,000 ASUS PG32UQX 4K 144Hz IPS gaming monitor with an 1152-zone mini LED FALD backlight, or the ASUS PG42UQ 4K 138Hz OLED display.
ASUS also offers excellent monitors for color-critical work from their ProArt series, ranging from budget to high-end professional models, such as the ASUS PA248QV and the ASUS PA32UC.
When it comes to mid-range gaming monitors, their models are usually more expensive than the competing displays due to the ‘premium ASUS branding’, especially when it comes to the ROG variants with plenty of proprietary RGB lighting and other gimmicky features.
What’s more, their wide gamut monitors usually have a well-calibrated sRGB mode, but brightness is often not adjustable and it’s locked to a very high setting.
This leaves you with only two options when viewing sRGB content: have over-saturated colors or accurate colors but high brightness, usually too high for viewing in the dark or under normal lighting conditions. Luckily, if you have an AMD or NVIDIA GPU, there are software solutions for this now.
Some ASUS gaming monitors feature the exclusive ELMB-Sync technology. It’s one of the rare MBR (Motion Blur Reduction) implementations that can work at the same time as variable refresh rate.
ASUS has plenty of exciting displays scheduled for 2022, including the PG27AQN 1440p 360Hz G-SYNC monitor, the ProArt PA32DC professional OLED display, as well as more affordable mini LED variants, the PG27UQX and the PG32UQXE.
As we’ve mentioned, Acer goes hand in hand with ASUS when it comes to high-end gaming displays. Their counterparts for ASUS’ PG35VQ and PG27UQ are the Acer Predator X35 and
Neither is clearly better than the other. They usually go for the same price, but depending on the region and availability, one can be more affordable than the other.
We usually recommend going for whichever is cheaper in your country, or according to your preference of the design or exclusive features. Any difference in image quality or performance is usually attributed to panel variance.
Their two main gaming series include Nitro and Predator lineups. Predator branding is reserved for their high-end models, but the main difference between the two is usually in the design, such is the case with the Nitro XV272UX and Predator XB273UGX.
One thing we’d like to see improved on Acer monitors is their overdrive implementation. It usually has three modes: Off, Normal, and Extreme. On most of their monitors, you can’t change the overdrive mode when VRR is enabled as it’s locked to ‘Normal.’
This isn’t the issue if Normal is properly optimized for the entire refresh rate range. In other cases, you’d need to choose between VRR and ghosting/overshoot.
AOC offers excellent budget gaming monitors. They’re affordable and offer excellent image quality and performance; further, AOC doesn’t skimp on design quality and features.
The AOC C24G1A and 24G2 are some of the most popular budget gaming displays. Not only are they cheaper than the competing models, but also better – making for the best value for the money – if you can find them in stock and at original pricing.
AOC’s popular budget monitors have strong build quality and even a good range of ergonomics, whereas the counterparts by other manufacturers usually just offer tilt-only and plastic stands for the same price.
The On-Screen Display of AOC’s monitors includes a well-calibrated sRGB mode, but just like with ASUS displays, it’s locked to a high brightness setting.
Further, navigation through the menu via the monitor’s usual clunky hotkeys isn’t a nice experience. We’d really like to see more AOC monitors with joysticks.
This adjusts the strobe length allowing you to find the best trade-off between picture brightness and motion clarity for you. Most monitors don’t have this much customization for backlight strobing, there are usually just two to three options, or just one.
However, AOC’s mini LED FALD displays, such as the PD32M and the AG274QXM, have been lackluster so far as they have several issues, including not being able to use local dimming in SDR mode.
Usually, they don’t offer as good image quality or performance as the competing models yet they’re notably more ex
