Solstice supports full mirroring of iOS 7+ devices (Apple iPhones and iPads) that feature Apple’s AirPlay functionality. AirPlay mirroring is accomplished through the device’s native AirPlay feature, using a similar process as connecting to an Apple TV.

Screen mirroring is a “localized” action, which means the screen-sending device and screen-receiving device are on the same network. An internet connection is not required.

Windows: Newer Windows devices and old Android devices use Miracast screen mirroring technology. Neither Google nor Apple support Miracast. However, the Ditto screen mirroring solution allows Windows users to mirror and stream content to Apple TVs, Chromecasts and Reflector-enabled devices.

Laptops don"t last forever, but the screens inside them usually do. Even if the main computer is broken, you can extract the display panel, and reuse it. In today"s project, we"ll be turning an old laptop and a Raspberry Pi into a magic mirror.
Before you start, I should note that counterintuitively, it"s not always cost-effective to try and rescue a panel from a laptop, since you need to find a suitable driver board and power supply. Unlike a ready-made monitor which just plugs into HDMI, the LCD or LED panel inside your laptop will have had a signal directly from the laptop"s motherboard.
In order to use that panel, you need a controller board made by a third party, which converts a standard HDMI signal into one suitable for that display. Annoyingly, the controller board must also be precisely matched to your panel. Once you factor in the additional $30-$40 for extra parts, it may be cheaper just to buy a fully functional old monitor at auction. A cursory glance through the "ending soonest" listings of eBay shows some 17-inch ex-office monitors going for less than $15.
Here"s the money shot. The sticker describes the panel and allows you to search for a suitable driver board. Type the model number into eBay (in this case B126XW02) plus "controller".
When your board arrives, you won"t find a single controller board: likely you"ll have a separate inverter (for LCDs, which require a high voltage), a board with buttons on for input control, and possibly a remote control receiver board (optional). This is the main controller board:
Since this is an LED, there no need for a separate inverter board. The ports should be obvious, and there"s only a few separate ribbon cable connectors. You"ll find some pins labelled LVDS: this is where the delicate flat cable that connects to the LCD screen will go, but don"t plug that in yet.
The last step was to fit the mirror sheet -- 3mm mirrored plexiglass -- with the screen behind it. It was a tight fit anyway, so no additional fixings were required. I used some double-sided sticky tape to secure the Raspberry Pi and other bits.

The hardest part of this project was probably building the frame, and I think I could have done better. If I were to repeat the project, I"d likely build a separate front panel with greater depth behind it, and allow space for a back panel to cover up the backlight, which currently bleeds out, as well as hide the cables away. It would also be a good idea to make room for a motion sensor that could turn the display on and off, though the panel itself doesn"t draw that much power.

In that situation I recommend getting the most transparent glass we offer, the Glass Teleprompter Mirror in 30R/70T. This looks great in a room with tons of natural light. However, you will definitely want to use this guide to frame it right to the screen, otherwise the bezel will show through the mirror.
Hi Karin, in this case you will want a mirror with the smallest reflection percentage possible – which is the Teleprompter Mirror in 30R/70T. You will need to follow these instructions to frame it right up to the screen to use that mirror type though since it is so transparent. When the TV is off through it will look amazing in a room with a lot of natural light and with minimal glare when the TV is on!

Yes the whole wall can be mirrored – I would recommend getting the Glass Smart Mirror in 5mm thickness for this type of project since the screen will be smaller than the mirror. From there you can black out the back of the mirror everywhere except for where the TV is to give it a mirror finish. The Glass Smart Mirror matches the color tint to a standard mirror so you can simply use standard mirrors for the rest of the gym wall.

Yes you can definitely do a custom mirror size. In that case, if it is possible for you, I recommend recessing your TV within the wall and then you do not need the frame to support the weight of the TV and mirror together. In that case you could mount the frame and mirror onto the wall like you would a standard framed mirror. You would also need to paint the back of the mirror black everywhere except for where the screen is to get the mirror effect.
Another question … For viewing purposes, am I understanding correctly that the dielectric mirror is the best one to use for quality of image? I saw above you recommended the glass teleprompter mirror for a client with a sunny room (my case as well). If we have to close a blind for the best quality image, I can live with that; the most important thing is the quality of the image. Thank you again!
Thanks so much for all of the tips! I have a few questions I need to pick your brain. I have an antique piece of furniture where the mirror is bad and I want to put a 2 Way mirror TV in its place. The problem is I would need a 32 inch TV but it would need to be vertical. What do you recommend? What gave me the idea was someone put a magic mirror into an identical piece of furniture but I want to take it a step further and have the ability to watch television on it. I have been trying to figure out what would be a better option A television or a monitor. I am having a hard time finding vertical televisions though? Buy the brightest LED TV offered, Ive made a number of these. I prefer to use a much larger mirror(wall size) combined with a 55” monitor, I like having the TV only take up a portion of the mirror surface. Works best with rooms with minimal sunlight.
