The year 2021 is one of innovation and novelty for BRP. Whether it’s for the engine, suspension, ski or technology, the company never ceases to surprise us. Speaking of technology, the new 7.8 inch high definition color LCD display caught my attention and probably the attention of many. So I decided to take a closer look at this new feature and let you discover it.
First of all, I have to say that BRP has invested a lot of energy to offer an extremely clear and bright screen in different outdoor conditions with a state-of-the-art display technology. The text is now larger for easier reading. As for example, the temperature level indicator on the grips and the heated thumb are now very visible.
The first thing we need to do to use the new screen and its features is to download BRP Connect and BRP GO to our cell phone. These applications are available on Apps Store and Google Play.
BRP Connect is sort of a portal to launch different apps. There are several available and then you can customize your screen to your interests. However, for the application to work, the phone must be connected via a USB wire and also connected via Bluetooth to the snowmobile. In addition, the phone must be open and the application launched (not in standby mode). It is also through this application that you can launch BRP GO.
This new technology from BRP announces great things for the next few years. Despite the high price tag, the new 7.8 inch high definition color LCD is still a great option. Let’s hope it becomes more affordable for snowmobilers.
The BRP GO! app now includes BRP Connect™ technology, which enables you to use some of your favorite apps directly on your Can-Am Spyder, Ski-Doo, Lynx or Sea-Doo’s 7.8-inch panoramic LCD color display. Riders can access road GPS navigation, music, weather, and more, all at arm’s length. The compatible apps are optimized to help create a pleasant and safe riding experience. An easy-to-follow step-by-step guide is available in the app to ensure proper connection between your phone and your vehicle.
The 2014 model sleds are on the trails and the 2015’s are just around the corner. As exciting as this is, there’s one area where it seems that little time has been spent for the last 10 years. Talking with OEM engineers about it several years ago, it seems they are content to keep using the same gauges over and over. Even the new Yamaha/Cat models had a chance to really up the ante with a brand new gauge, and yet I feel it falls short. It’s the same looking bulky plastic with LCD screen (only this time, two).
The old analog gauges served snowmobiling well over the years. I remember having to replace speedometer cables because they became twisted and would snap off, rendering the speedometer useless. In the early 2000’s manufacturers began using electronic pickups and digital speedometers. Then LCD gauges became the norm, and still are today. There is so much room to grow, however, and yet with each passing year all four OEMs fall short.
Ski-Doo has a gorgeous gauge, but it too falls short. What seems to be missing from all of these electronic gauges is a GPS unit. In fact, there’s not even a simple mounting area on any of the dashes to mount a GPS unit, although Ski-Doo does offer a GPS unit and mount in their accessory catalog, but it could be so much better.
In the modern age of Bluetooth and Apps, wouldn’t it be nice if your smartphone could tap into a Bluetooth module in the engine’s computer to show things like engine temp, exhaust temp, RPM and more? Then tap into the speedometer electronics and show your speed on your phone? Then tap into a GPS screen to show the trails and directions of the route you planned through the app? I think so.
I spoke with Gary Gustafson, Powersports Manufacturing Consultant of G-Force Consulting about this subject. He shed some insight as to why this is. He should know, he has experience in electronics and especially gauges. In fact, he worked for both Arctic Cat and Polaris and was involved with the design and testing of some of these gauges, and some gauges that made it to production. He told me that the manufacturers shy away from gauges that can show too much information because of liability reasons, which is quite understandable. When you are travelling at speed, you do not want the driver to be distracted by a screen with much more than the speed showing. But he did say there are ways around this by programming the software to display certain items and disengage activities if you are travelling over a certain speed. This makes more sense and could easily be done.
I’d like to see some innovation in this area from one of the OEMs. Give us gadget freaks a screen with GPS, speed, RPM, fuel level, and hand warmer indicators, and that would be a gauge I’d be excited about.
VALCOURT, Quebec, Sept. 10, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- There are people who love on-water performance, and then there are people who LOVE on-water performance. For those in the latter category, BRP (TSX: DOO, NASDAQ: DOOO) is launching an all-new version of its high-performance Sea-Doo RXP-X 300. Designed to be the ultimate, supercharged on-water experience, the 2021 model delivers best-in-class acceleration along with a new water-gripping hull design for incredible handling.
Enhancements to the 2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X 300 start with shedding 67 pounds (30kg) from its predecessor. And a new T3-R hull with a completely revamped deep-V design provides greater stability at high speeds, something everyone from experienced weekend riders to professional racers can appreciate. It all translates into incredible performance and a more confident ride, whether doing a high-speed run on a glassy lake, taking on choppy conditions, or carving around buoys on a race course.
“The 2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X 300 is the ultimate machine,” said Anthony Radetic, Sea-Doo racer and brand ambassador. “From the looks to the throttle response to the way it carves, the ride is incredible. I can’t wait to get out and race this thing!”
But the BRP obsession with the ultimate rider experience doesn’t stop there. Also new for 2021 is an industry-first Intelligent Debris Free pump system (iDF), which quickly and effectively clears debris from the water pump intake with a touch of a button. Now, touring and adventure riders can explore more areas with greater peace of mind. The iDF system is available on four 2021 Sea-Doo watercraft models and is standard on the FISH PRO and GTX Limited models.
Technological advancements like iDF are what set Sea-Doo apart. In this case, the focus is on lowering stress. In other cases, it’s about enhancing performance or providing the ultimate high-end on-water experience. And this year, Sea-Doo is taking riding to the next level with the launch of a 7.8-in. wide full-color LCD display on the luxurious Sea-Doo GTX family of watercraft. It is the industry’s first app-enabled Bluetooth display, providing full control of music, navigation, weather and more, all while keeping both hands on the handlebars.
