This article explains how to add apps to your Vizio smart TV featuring SmartCast. Additional information is provided for older Vizio TVs that feature Vizio Internet Apps (VIA) and Vizio Internet Apps+ (VIA+).

Find the Chromecast-enabled app you want to cast to your Vizio TV and tap Install. Once installed, the app is integrated into your smartphone"s cast selection.

More than 100 apps are installed in SmartCast-enabled Vizio TVs. You can access them directly on the screen without casting. It"s easy to customize your app selection, so your favorites are easily accessible.

With VIA and VIA+ platforms, you"ll have a set of core apps, such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, YouTube, Pandora, and iHeart Radio, but you can add many more apps from the Vizio app store. On some models, you can also add the Google Play: Movies and TV app.

To delete an app on a Vizio TV with the VIA or VIA+ platform, highlight the app and select Delete > OK. You can reinstall the app at any time via the app store.

Check the user guide to identify your system. Your TV or home theater display must be connected to your home network and the internet to use any of Vizio"s app platforms.

Compatible apps will indicate that they"re SmartCast-compatible, and SmartCast will even provide recommendations based on your viewing history. With the SmartCast mobile app, you can also control your Vizio TV"s functions, including input selection, picture calibration, and sound settings.

Yes. The Vizio SmartCast Mobile app is available for iPhone and Android. The app is compatible with Vizio SmartCast TVs but not with older Vizio VIA and VIA+ TVs. You can download the Vizio SmartCast app for iPhone from the App Store or get the Android app from Google Play.

Yes. To download and watch Disney+, you must have a Vizio SmartCast TV with built-in apps. (As long as the TV is online, it will display all available apps, including Disney+.) Press V on the remote, select the Disney+ app and log in to watch.

The design of the Vizio E is quite nice. It’s not the thinnest TV in the world, but its bezel is quite slim, and the feet for the stand are pretty good-looking.

The feet are not adjustable, and they are set far apart. For larger TVs, this will necessitate a big surface on which to set the TV. It’s a stabler solution than the old Vizio E mount, but could be inconvenient.

You get a bit more leeway with the Vizio E than with the more expensive Vizio P (the P loses picture quality at 19 degrees), but the viewing angle on this TV is still not ideal for off-axis viewing.

Update:From further testing we have concluded that all current Vizio TVs that we have reviewed do not display 4:4:4, but 4:2:2. This is due to the TV inputs accepting 4:4:4 but actually displaying 4:2:2. 4:2:2 is better than 4:2:0, but slightly blurrier for text than 4:4:4.

You don’t get the QWERTY remote on the back of this like you do with the Vizio M and P-series, but the slimness and feel of this remote almost makes up for that. The glossy finish might be a nuisance for some – our remote picked up smudges and fingerprints very quickly.

Vizio"s E-Series TV is the best-performing cheap TV I"ve tested this year. There are a few TVs on the market that cost even less, and if you"re fine with just "good enough" picture quality, go ahead and get one. But the E is still super-budget-friendly, and if you want a better picture but can"t afford

The ridiculously cheap Vizio E-Series offers the best image quality available in this price range, thanks to local dimming. It supports the latest 4K and HDR video, including Dolby Vision. Chromecast built-in works well if you like using your phone to control streaming.

That"s because some versions of that model use IPS-based ("in-plane switching") LCD panels instead of the VA (vertical alignment) panels used on every other size and model in the 2018 E series -- including the 65-inch model I tested. VA generally delivers superior contrast and black levels to IPS.

For the record, before this review first published Vizio had told me that the 50-inch model, E50-F2, used IPS panels as well. After the review published, Vizio emailed to say that it had given me the wrong information. Vizio"s representative said that the E50-F2 does use VA panels.

The system is great if you love using your phone instead of onscreen menus. The TV"s Chromecast built-in system lets you go into any supported app on your phone and hit the Cast button to reveal the Vizio TV as an option; select it and video from the app will play back on the TV. There are thousands of supported apps, and the system works well in general, but I still prefer a real onscreen menu system -- just not Vizio"s.

Bringing FALD to lower price points is Vizio"s wheelhouse, and for 2018 the E-Series is the cheapest Vizio with dimming. This feature is my favorite improvement for LCD picture quality because it improves all-important contrast and black levels, especially withKey TV features

Compared to the similarly priced TCL 5 series, which lacks local dimming, the Vizio delivered superior black levels and a more impressive image overall with both standard and HDR sources. The 5 series is technically brighter than the Vizio in accurate picture settings, but still not that bright overall, so between the two I"d still recommend the Vizio for bright rooms, too.

Click the image at the right to see the picture settings used in the review. Note that I did not perform a full calibration on the TCL 5 series, the Vizio E-Series or the TCL S405. Instead I used their best default dark-room settings for my comparison and tweaked light output when appropriate to level the playing field and provide a better comparison with the other sets that I did calibrate.

Shadow detail, for example in the folds of the rebels" uniforms and the depths of the underbrush, was full and realistic, especially compared to the lighter TCLs. The Vizio did show some minor blooming in some areas, for example around the logo of my Blu-ray player"s screensaver, but it was rare in normal video and definitely a worthwhile tradeoff for superior black levels and contrast.

Bright lighting: With both standard and HDR sources, the light output of the E-Series falls short of most HDR TVs I"ve tested. Its brightest modes beat the TCL 5 series and S405, but fall way short of higher-end TVs. Makes sense: it costs money to add brightness to an LCD.

In accurate settings -- Movie/Brighter for the TCL and Calibrated for the Vizio E -- the TCL outshines the the Vizio significantly; 284Light output in nits

The Vizio E delivered accurate color in program material, too. Natural areas, like the mountains, rivers and plains of Wakanda, looked pleasingly realistic, with more of a sunlit, dynamic look compared to the TCL. The Vizio E also showed a slight advantage in the warm African skin tones of Black Panther"s crew, which looked a bit closer to the color reference Sony than the TCL delivered. All of the sets were quite accurate and color differences would be tough to spot outside of a side-by-side comparison.

Uniformity: The screen of the E-Series was admirably free of bands and bright spots in test patterns, a marked improvement over the TCL 5 series. Off-angle viewing was average for an LCD, with similar washout and discoloration to the 5 series, albeit significantly better than the S405.

HDR and 4K video: As usual local dimming was even more important to getting the best image out of demanding HDR video. Watching Black Panther, the Vizio E trounced the TCL 5 series and the S405. Highlights and sun spots popped, dark areas maintained their deep contrast and everything looked more vibrant and alive. Colors on the Vizio E measured worse for HDR color gamut than the 5 series, but differences in program material, for example in the costumes of the dancers in Chapter 4, were tough to spot.

Not to cast shade on the sleek minimalist design of the VIZIO E55-C2, but for one who has had to wrangle bases on TVs large and small, the most noticeable and appreciated element on this 55-inch TV is its pair of simple two-legged stands.

Combined with the light weight of the TV, screwing on those stands was a breeze. Ah, the little things you can appreciate. On a practical and safety level, the VIZIO reps state that the new corner feet design addresses the new tip test regulations.

On the E55-C2, VIZIO has replaced the traditional buttons (Power, Channel and Volume) located on the TV with a single multifunction button. I played with it for a few minutes and found it a little wonky. Luckily, you will never need to use it unless your dog chews up your remote control.

Facing the back, on the right side, are two connection panels. The top one runs vertically and contains one USB port (for accessing photo, music, or video files stored on a USB device), one HDMI input and two audio outs (one analog stereo and one optical digital).

The panel also includes a LAN connection, if you wish to attach this TV to your home network with an Ethernet cable. The E55-C2 has an integrated 802.11n wireless adapter if you prefer the convenience of Wi-Fi.

Currently, VIZIO supplies the E55-C2 Smart TV with over 100 Internet content providers. Beyond the usual suspects like Netflix, Vudu, Hulu, Facebook, and Pandora, the links include over 30 local TV stations like KTBC in Austin and KSTP in the Twin Cities. Ten game apps are listed, though none of the popular games like Asphalt 8.

This VIZIO E-Series TV supports second screen apps like YouTube and Netflix. For example, I opened Netflix on an iPhone and loaded up Orange is the New Black. Clicking on the Second Screen icon on the phone, a list of compatible devices popped up, including the VIZIO. I chose it and pushed the program in progress to the E55"s big screen.

The E55-C2"s non-backlit remote control is compact (2 x 6.5 inches), but supplies most of the oft-used functions along with dedicated buttons to directly access the Picture Mode, Picture Size and the VIA Apps menus.

The Energy Guide tag for the E55-C2 indicates that if the TV is on five hours a day and in Standby for the other 19, the Estimated Annual Energy Use is a measly 75.4 kWh/year, which at 11 cents a kWh calculates to about $8 a year.

The initial setup of the VIZIO E55-C2 is quick and painless. The first time that you turn on the TV, you answer a few basic questions about Language, Time Zone and TV signal.

Hi. It looks like the backlight on your LED TV has failed. LED TVs feature long thin circuit boards with surface-mount LEDs packaged every few inches. Direct backlit TVs have quite a few strips with the LEDS spaced out over the area of the LCD panel. Edge lit LED Tvs have the majority of the LEDs on the sides of the LCD panel. It looks like your TV is direct LED backlight.

The reason why Vizio told you to buy a new TV is because the LEDs which have failed are the hardest part to get to inside the TV. It requires you to disassemble the lcd display assembly, which is very fragile. In order to disassembly the display assembly, you need a lot of space and a lot of patience.

Also, even if you replace the LEDs or LED strips, it is extremely likely that your backlight will fail again within 2 years. A lot of the folks who repair LED TVs mention to go into the settings of your tv and manually turn the backlight of the LCD at least half way down. Lowering the backlight brightness will increase the lifespan of your backlight.
