Nice to have a digital read out that is easily read. Can be changed so you can measure to the back of the tape for measuring between walls. Would have preferred metric only on the tape. Have not used the memory yet. Tape seems fairly robust. Overall pleased with the purchase.

This is quality item with lots of clever features like automatically finding the mid point of a measurement and storing a measurement in its memory. Also useful is being able to measure up to the back of the unit.

Appears to be a rebranded Etape16. Mine shipped without instructions and whilst most of the functions can be gleaned from trial and error it is a bit of a faff to keep trying to remember how to access less frequently used functions, You can, however, download Etape"s instructions if you carry out a Google search.

Well, a first for me and I wish one of these had been out years ago, ideally with bluetooth, but this is what you get. I am a blind woodworker, I deal with everything purely by touch. so, why would a digital tape measure help me? Well, I rely on a product from a manufacturer called OrCam, called the Read, it"s a hand held scanner which converts text to speech, it"s basically my eyes to the world in print form. This is reading the LCD display of the digital tape, meaing I can mark up boards ready for cutting, etc. this makes such a difference to me and I"m glad I heard about this. FYI, I use a mac with a screen reader called VoiceOVer to read out text to me as synthetic speech The build quality is impressive, although I"d worry about dropping it, etc. it"s well made and fairly easy to use with a little learning at first with some sighted help, but after that, it"s usable with a scanner like my orcam or a smartphone camera and text to speech tools, etc.

I have used Rutlands for quite sometime now and this product the dicital tape measure is no exception. All the products that I have previously purchased from Rutlands are to a very high standard and are good quality tools. I would recommend Rutlands to any trades person that would want a reliable tool or equipment for his or her job.

Excellent purchase. Chunky and tough. I love the digital read out, makes life so much easier being able to read the measurement without having to juggle my glasses. What makes it better is being able to measure inside the work piece. Finally the memory facility is also very useful. Only slight criticism is getting used to holding it so that you can read the digital screen easily without having to contort your wrist.

Love it! As others have said it makes light work of internal measurements, not built tough ie building site but for carpentry and mouldings etc it"s brilliant. Love the memory functions, really easy to use, great little addition to the tool box. Screen is large enough to read easily, Feels robust enough for workshop use. Really pleased with it and great service from Rutlands.

Best thing since sliced bread. Internal measurements now totally accurate with no bent tape distorting accuracy. Tape at arms length with markings difficult to see? Not any more because the display is large enough to be read even from a distance. Forgotten the measurements by the time you get to the bench? Just press memory and Hay Presto! problem solved.

A very useful piece of kit particularly for those of us whose eye sight is not as good as it used to be for accurately reading mms from a tape. The facility for reading from either end is also very useful for measuring between 2 faces. I am very pleased with this.

This is a very useful tool for me. I use it in my class of students with learning disabilities, and it has enabled some in my group to make accurate measurements for the first time. Use the measuring setting with the arrow pointing to the back, and then mark the tape measure from the back edge as well, which is a load easier than planting your pencil accurately along the tape! Try it for yourself! How long this little treasure is going to last, that I don"t know yet, bnut it seems well made....

If the tape sags, there will surely be minor differences. Today’s laser measuring devices allow just one person to take measurements, and when used correctly, they can be highly accurate.

Laser tape technology has significantly improved in the past decade, so we were excited to test today’s popular models. We tested basic products that offer a simple distance readout as well as more advanced models that allowed us to store measurements and calculate surface area and volume.

Digital tapes offer a variety of solutions for measuring challenges, and the following models all earned a spot on our lineup of the best digital tape measure options for most users. Ahead, learn what to look for when shopping for a digital tape measure and discover the pros and cons of the models we tested. Spoiler: Not all the models we tested excelled—find out which ones didn’t make the cut in the “Also Tested” section below.

Before selecting the models we wanted to put through their paces, we extensively researched more than 30 digital measuring tools. We looked at reported accuracy, ease of use, power source, durability, and other special features. We also factored in the brand—giving slight preference to nationally respected companies such as Bosch and DeWalt. Still, we didn’t eliminate models made by niche manufacturers if they offered precise measuring and were simple to use.

In actual testing, we set up a short (6-foot) test station and a longer (20-foot) test station, using a professional-quality steel measuring tape and a surveyor’s laser level to ensure our test stations were as close to perfectly level as possible. Each digital tape measure was tested on both stations to determine how far off it was (inch-wise). Fortunately, all the tapes on our lineup were within ⅛-inch accuracy at 6 feet and ¼-inch accuracy at 20 feet. While we consider that highly accurate, keep in mind that these measuring tools must be held straight for the best results—holding one at even a slight angle will change the final measurement.

We also noted how bright the lasers were and how easy each model was to set up and use. We tried out every feature on each model, including complex calculating functions that figure surface area and volume. We scored each digital measuring tape using a rubric: the better a model performed, the higher the score it received. After testing, we added and averaged each digital tape’s scores and used them to help determine the best category and use for each model.

Photo: amazon.comThe Bosch laser distance measure is an excellent example of a simple but highly accurate digital measuring tool. And for many people, that’s all that’s needed.

We liked the ability to measure up to 65 feet at the push of a button. We loaded two AAA batteries (included) in the Bosch and started testing. This no-frills digital tape measure is as simple as it gets—we pushed the button on the front to turn the unit on and then pressed the button again when we were ready to measure.

Like most digital tape measures, the end of the tool (opposite the laser) must be positioned against the starting point when measuring. We held the end of the unit against one wall, pointed it at the opposite wall, and then pressed the button again. The Bosch emitted a red laser dot that appeared on the opposite wall, indicating the endpoint and giving us the distance reading.

We then tested the Bosch digital tape measure on our 6-foot test station and found it was 1/16 inch off. In the 20-foot test, it was accurate to within ⅛ inch.

This simple digital measuring tool doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but it does boast two notable additional features. First, the Bosch shows measurements in live mode, which means we could walk around and point the laser at any object within 65 feet to get a reading of how far away it was. As we moved around, the digital readout automatically changed to suit.

Secondly, the Bosch also stores a measurement while taking another. We were able to measure the length of one wall in a room, press the button once to store that number at the top of the LED screen, and then measure an adjacent wall. In this way, we could see both the room’s length and width at a glance.

The Bosch is small enough to carry in a pocket or a tool box, but we wish it came with a protective case. The screen on ours got scratched while we were carrying it in a tool pouch with a few nails.

Photo: amazon.comThere’s no need to spend a lot to get digital accuracy and the ability to calculate surface area. In addition, those looking to measure curved surfaces can do so with Skil’s 65-foot digital measuring tape.

In our 6-foot measuring test, the Skil was accurate within 1/16 inch. In our 20-foot test, it was within ⅛ inch—so highly accurate. The unit offers the ability to calculate surface area, and we found it easy to use and accurate. We measured the width of a room, pressed the main button to hold the number in memory, and then measured the room’s length by repeating the action. After that, by pressing the main button twice in quick succession, the Skil multiplied the two numbers and gave us the room’s surface area. This function would come in handy for builders, real estate agents, or anyone else who needs to calculate surface area on the fly.

We were also able to toggle through metric and imperial measurements using the side on/off button. What’s more, the function that sets this digital tape measure apart from many is the ability to measure curved areas, such as a curved staircase rail or an arched doorway, via a wheel on the bottom corner of the unit. By selecting the wheel function from the side button, we could roll the unit from one point to the next and find the distance. Measuring wheels are relatively new functions on digital tapes, so finding one at this price point was impressive.

Photo: amazon.comThe first thing we noticed when unboxing the DeWalt digital laser was the distinctive yellow color that’s standard on all DeWalt tools. We’re familiar with the high quality of DeWalt products, so we were interested in seeing how well this digital tool lined up. Overall, we were quite impressed, but there are a few features we feel could be improved.

The tool excelled in our 6-foot and 20-foot measurement tests, coming within 1/16 inch on the former and ⅛ inch on the latter. Then, we took it outside to see if it would measure up to 100 feet, and we backed away from our shop—stopping to take a measurement every few feet. At 82 feet away, we could no longer see the laser dot on the side of the shop, but we continued to get measurements on the LED screen until 94 feet away. That was the farthest measurement we received—not quite 100 feet but in the general area.

The DeWalt digital tape measure allows users to calculate both the surface area of a square or rectangle and the volume of a cube. This is where the DeWalt shines! We followed a blinking diagram on the LED screen that prompted us to take specific measurements, and then the tool calculated the volume of the area, using the measurements we entered. This is a great feature for anyone who needs to calculate volume in the field.

We were less impressed with DeWalt’s Bluetooth function, however. We downloaded the app, which required creating an account and giving the app access to our smartphone data, but the app doesn’t do anything that can’t be done on the tool itself. We did discover that the DeWalt tape measure will sync with other paid-subscription construction apps, but we opted not to purchase those for our testing. We also would have liked a case to help protect the digital tape measure from scratches in a tool box or tool pouch.

Photo: homedepot.comDremel is well known for making power rotary tools, so while a laser measure tool seems a little out of its wheelhouse, we’re glad the company came out with it.

The Dremel tape proved to be simple to operate—just one button on the front turns it on and off and takes measurements. The trick is learning how many presses trigger a specific function, but we figured that out in about 15 seconds. It will hold up to two measurements and multiply them to find the surface area.

In both our 6-foot and our 20-foot measuring tests, the Dremel was slightly less than ⅛ inch off, which is pretty good. However, it excels in its wheeled adapter that measures curves.

With the wheel attached, we could accurately measure arched doorways and the rail of our spiral staircase, making this model indispensable for builders and painters who need accurate measurements even when the surface isn’t perfectly flat.

This measure also comes with a tiny flexible tape measure that might be more useful to hobbyists than DIYers, but we found it fascinating. The tape attachment snaps on the top of the tool and houses a 5-foot-long tape. As we pulled the tape out, the Dremel displayed the distance. We couldn’t figure out a good use for it, especially since it’s so short, but it might come in handy at some point. And an included protective case for the tool would have been nice, especially to hold the attachments.

Photo: amazon.comThe Makita LD050P boasts the longest measuring distance of all the digital tape measures we tested. After it passed our 6-foot and 20-foot tests, being less than 1/16 inch off on both, we took the tool outdoors and measured as we walked away from the side of our shop. At 164 feet away (the maximum listed distance), we could still see the laser dot on the shop; indeed, it seemed nearly as bright as it did when we were 50 feet away, and we got an accurate reading. The biggest challenge when measuring that distance was keeping the laser dot still—it tended to bob and weave even when we held the tool as still as possible.

In addition to calculating surface area and volume, the Makita outdoor laser measure tape will also calculate the missing side of a triangle if the user enters the measurements of the other two sides (known as a Pythagorean function). We used this feature to calculate the third side of a triangle by entering the distance of the other two sides. It took a few tries, but a flashing diagram on the tool’s screen walked us through taking each measurement, and we finally got it right.

This was the most complex digital tape we tested, and the Pythagorean feature might not be used by most, but overall, we found this to be a highly accurate tool, and we’d rather have the feature and never use it than need it and not have it. The Makita comes with a protective canvas case and loop for carrying it on a belt or tool pouch.

We had high hopes for the Klein Tools digital tape measure, but ultimately, we had to give up and eliminate it from the testing. The trouble started before we even got it out of its nearly bulletproof plastic packaging that required tin snips to cut it open. Once we got the tool out, we discovered we needed a screwdriver to install the batteries that came with the device.

Finally, with the batteries in and the back screwed back on, we turned on the unit, but instead of seeing recognizable numbers on the LED screen, we saw only a few random lines. Thinking it might be bad batteries, we took those out and installed some brand-new ones we had on hand. Same results. Something was wrong with the LED screen, and it would not display correctly. We tried a few more times but eventually gave up. Maybe we got a lemon, or maybe the tool was damaged somehow in transit, but we had to eliminate it from our testing of the best laser measures. We’d be happy to try again in the future with another Klein Tools model if given the opportunity.

Before selecting a digital tape measure, consider the tool’s intended use, measurement types, accuracy, and ease of use. Most of these distance measures are lightweight and compact enough to fit into a pocket or backpack and come with IP45 ratings for waterproof or dustproof constructions. Select picks are also Bluetooth-compatible and come with two-in-one functionality, built-in memories, and automatic shutoff.

While most digital measuring tapes will calculate length in feet with a laser, some options also accurately measure distance in inches and meters with precision. Some digital tape measures include a laser as well as a tape measure for short- and long-distance calculations in inches, feet, and meters.

One other advantage of using some of the laser tape measures available is the ability to measure the area and indirect measurement (Pythagorean theorem) of a room or space. This is particularly useful when working on construction projects where height and/or the total volume of a space needs to be measured.

A hallmark of any good digital measuring tape is accuracy. Whether it is a traditional tape measure or a high-tech laser model, the best digital option will list a degree of accuracy on the packaging or in the manual. As a general rule, look for a model with accuracy within ⅛ to 1/16 of an inch for truly dialed-in results.

Unlike traditional measuring tapes, digital measures have backlit digital and LCD screens that display an accurate measurement in inches, feet, or meters. Most laser tape measures have displays that are bright enough to see in lit or dark spaces for easy readability both while digital measuring or changing modes. However, some models that are not backlit can be difficult to read in darker settings.

While measuring the height of a wall, the length of a room, or the total area of a space, the last thing a user needs is for the digital tape measure to lose power. Most of these laser tape measures are powered by disposable or lithium-ion batteries, allowing them to last for 1 to 5 hours per battery pack or charge.

Both of these types of digital tape measures usually have automatic shut-off features that are triggered after 30 seconds or up to 3 minutes to conserve battery power and increase runtime.

Much like laser levels, some digital tape measures are capable of storing and sharing measurements and data between devices. Select products come with a certain amount of storage capacity, storing between five and 20 measurements. Some brands offer a paid subscription for keeping many measurements stored, and some offer storage for an unlimited number of measurements.

A digital tape measure is very similar to a standard tape measure, except with a beam of light instead of metal tape. As wireless technologies become smaller, cheaper and more ubiquitous, the list of objects that can be connected to the Internet of Things is getting impressively long. How long? Perhaps we can measure it with eTape16, a Bluetooth-connected digital tape measure.

At first glance eTape16 looks and works like a regular tape measure, but with an LCD screen on top and a control wheel reminiscent of the original iPod occupying one face. The buttons toggle a number of handy features that make it easy to find midpoints, measure “inside” and “outside” lengths, swap units, and store and recall multiple values. It runs on a standard coin battery and includes a Bluetooth connection that can send measurements directly to a mobile device running the eTape app.

Though a tape measure may seem an improbable candidate for wireless connectivity, the IoT is ushering in an age where, to abuse Murphy’s Law, “Anything that can be connected, will be connected.” And in fact, eTape16 is not the first smart tape measure we’ve seen: In 2013 a group of innovators at Frog Design came up with a prototype that, while wired, was able to input data directly into 3D modelling software to “sketch” the item being measured.

And to be fair, it makes a bit more sense to connect a tape measure than some of the other items in your toolbox, since the ease of recording straight-line measurements has broad appeal for everyone from homeowners to professional carpenters and engineers. It’s easy to imagine using eTape16 while furniture shopping, to send measurements to someone at home for confirmation that a handsome table will actually fit in the breakfast nook. But the subset of people who’d have a use for data from, say, torque wrenches or calipers is much more limited to those in technical fields.

The media could not be loaded. Â EDIT: I previously thought my tape measure was inaccurate or broken, then I noticed the small indented text on the side of the device: "+3 3/8in/86mm." Basically, when you use the laser, you have to add 3 3/8" to the reading to account for the length of the tape measure. This is ideal for measuring the dimensions of a bedroom, not so much for something like woodworking that requires precision.The tab at the end of the tape is still very loose. Had I realized I"d still have to do math to use the laser instead of getting an immediate true read, I wouldn"t have bought it. I"ll still be returning this item and plan on buying something else.

the "measure" lazer button is on the big flat RIGHT side of the tape, so, when measuring from a corner /edge , the button is against the wall, so, you have to flip it upside down to be able to push the button, or, switch the measure from the front of the tape instead of the back. The red retract button for the tape measure seems it would be more of the ideal spot for the laser measure button.....jus sayin",,

Really love this tape measure. Never been a rocket scientist when it come to fractions. This tape removes all the worries. Easy to use and very accurate. Highly recommended.

I have used some expensive store bought tape measures that left me wanting. I actually threw one away recently because of the way the printing was done. It was inconsistent and depending on where you were reading, you could be out by 1/8".So I got this instead.The laser measuring works great!The tape itself is easier to read and fool proof compared to my previous expensive store bought one that is now in a rubbish dump. It also lost it"s ability to lock after a few weeks.This one has already lasted longer and never gave me the wrong measurement.I just can"t fault it.

The media could not be loaded.  This is a cool 2 in one measuring tape and laser distance meter. It is simple to use and works well. The tape measure is very sturdy and has a great feel. The laser meter is easy to use and easy to read on the upper LCD. Good to have 2 tools in one that can complement each other. The tape can measure short distances up to 16 feet and the laser will measure up to 130 ft.

First the good news. It"s kind of cool having a laser with a tape measure. This is useful for inside measurements where you don"t want to calculate the additional length that the body adds to your measurement.Now the bad news. The tape has some downsides compared with wider, dedicated construction tapes. The lines are thinner and the 1/4 and 1/8"s markings are not as prominent as on other tape measures. Not a big deal for occasional use, but it gets old if you use it a lot. I end up using my other tape measures because they are easier to read and more consistent. I sometimes am off by 1/16 using this tape due to the reading. To be fair, a lot of measuring tapes sold now are more difficult to read than many of the standard construction tapes made by Stanley, Lufkin, and others. Also, this probably only matters to someone who uses a tape a lot and appreciates the extra visual clarity. The tape used here is also thinner, or maybe uses different materials that typical construction tape, and so can deform if you don"t use it gently. I put a kink in mine just by allowing the tape to spin back from several feet.One other limitation is that the laser only measures the outside dimension. It"d be more useful if it measured either inside or outside dimension. If it measured inside dimension, then you wouldn"t have to rely so much on reading the tape. But, this is obvious from the description so you know you are getting it this way.One other nit is the lock feature. It"s a soft lock, allowing you to pull more tape out even when it"s locked. This is a feature that is different Some people may like it. I don"t.If you don"t like the tape, you should contact customer service. They provided me with a 16 ft replacement that I like, one that doesn"t have a laser and uses a better, wider, and easier to read tape with good standout.If you are a heavy user, I"d recommend getting a good tape and laser separately. I prefer Lexivon"s wider tapes without the laser. They seem like they could take more abuse than this laser tape.

Gave this to my husband today because he does a lot of work around the house. He didn’t even know this existed and said it would be really helpful for his projects. I didn’t even read the manual and started to use it. It’s super simple and accurate. The lock on the manual tape measure is also very good and secure.

I work on rooftops all the time as a solar Technician and was excited to get this measuring tape with the laser line but after one hot day the screen stopped working and never came back up. I’ve tried replacing the batteries and no luck. The locking feature is excellent and the red button release is excellent but if I can’t use the laser feature I would rather get a longer measuring tape. Great product overall just not for the rooftop if work in direct sunlight it won’t work.

Measuring a 10 foot room is okay if you are by yourself, but much longer distances are a challenge to keep one end of the tape in place. The laser function is great and easy to use, displays the length on screen. Well worth the $$

I bought this for my son who had just started a job laying carpet and lino. His co-worker was so excited by it he got one too! They both say it has made the job SO much easier. My son also texted me one day to say that when you measure a room, it automatically calculates the square footage.

I saw on a You tube review and my boyfriend loved it but said it didn"t have the part that measured around pipes or whatever? (As you can see I am not technical lol)

I’m not an expert on tape measures or lasers, but in my opinion, this worked great! I had artwork that needed hung and my son thought it was best to just go for it. And all three pictures were at different levels and spacing. We were able to use this tape measure and laser to easily readjust all the artwork and evenly space and hang them. For my needs, it’s worked easily and seems to be accurate.

I like this tape for my forensic investigation work. The laser is bright enough for indoors, and perhaps outdoors in the daytime in shaded areas but not out to the advertised 130 feet. I tested the laser accuracy up to 50 feet inside my warehouse and it was very accurate. I would really like a two-way level built in to tell you when you are horizontally level and/or vertically level. Otherwise, you need to make sure your laser light is close to directly in front or above the tape. There are other many other laser measuring devices out there with built in level and more features for less price. I received this via Vine and would not buy this myself for the reasons stated.

This is a great tape measure. It’s great that it already comes with batteries and even a small screwdriver to open the battery door. The screen is easily readable. My husband tried it and says it’s accurate. I was confused about the laser at first and thought it was measuring incorrectly but it turns out the laser adds the length of the tape measure to the reading. If u put the back of the tape measure flush to one wall and measure with the laser to the opposite wall it gives you the distance between both walls not the distance of the front of the laser or tape measure to the opposite wall. You can use the laser instead of having to take out the tape. My hubby figured that one out because it didn’t say anything about that in the instructions. That’s the only con I can think of...that the instructions could’ve been better for a novice like me. Another good feature is that when you pull the tape out it stays until u push the button to bring it back. I tried pushing it back without the button and it didn’t go in which is a good thing but I wasn’t pushing really hard cuz I didn’t wanna risk breaking it but I pushed a decent amount.

I bought this to measure several large rooms with high ceilings in an 1800’s house that I just bought. It is so much easier to use than a standard tape measure (although that’s included with this tool), and so far it appears to be accurate.

I really liked this out of the box and it was easy to use. Be aware the laser “expects” the user to hold the back end of the tape measure flush against whatever you’re measuring so it adds 3 and 3/8 inches to account for the size of the case. The measure point is different from what the tape shows. Anyway the tape is to flimsy for me. It bent between the 6 and 7 inch mark and now doesn’t stay straight out. I don’t even know how that happened but the material is thin. That’s a deal breaker for me.UPDATE 7/18/20:Lexivon reached out after my review so this is what I told them. “The issue I had was that the tape bent from something I did but I’m not sure what that was. I’ve not had this happen with other tape measures. Maybe it is the material it is made from. I thought it was ruined as it stayed flopped over to the right when extended beyond where the bend occurred. I figured it was ruined so I felt I had nothing to lose by trying to bend it back. I was able to work it so that it only twisted without folding over. I kept at it and managed to get it straight but it still has a kinks in the 7 to 8 inch range which I am aware of each time I extend the tape (pictures attached.) “ To their credit they sent me a new on and paid for shipping for return of damaged one. That’s a big plus for customer service. I really couldn’t find an equivalent item. Others were really bulky and just weren’t as good as the Lexivon so I’m glad to get the replacement and will be careful in the future now that I know it’s limitations. I like having a combined tape and laser rather than two separate devices and I really like the design of this item. Kudos to Lexivon for standing behind their product.

It"s a great tape measure. I love that fact the all measurements can be taken in either imperial (U.S.) or metric form. The build is high quality and the laser is spot on. I would like to see the red button improved since it feels a bit cheap but it works fine.

I bought this because of a large project I am doing and thought the laser would be perfect for the long shots. I used this for 2 days before the tip slipped to the side of a 12 ft measurement. The unit was locked and the gravity and twist put a permanent bend in the steel at about the 10 inch mark.If I tried to use the tape measure after that it would just bend and turn at that point if i tried to go much over 6 feet. I was able to send it back and didn"t bother purchasing another one. I will just use my leica laser and a normal tape measure.

This measuring tape is so simple to use. Even my mother handles it like a pro. Well, not a pro, but close. Lol. We mainly use the regular tape measure party, but you can also get a distance with a laser when batteries are used. That is simple when you have a good surface to focus on.

I’m a DIY’er and had been using an old school metal tape that was bent at the end for years. About a quarter into a kitchen remodel I realized that I was being unreasonably frugal by continuing to use an old bent tape. So...I bought this one. At first I didn’t like it because it was new, different, and difficult to read. After using it for a while I now love it. The laser measures precisely and I have found the side of the tape that displays fractions to be quite useful. I love the lock feature...it basically reverse locks. It automatically stays deployed until you press the release button: then it comes back. Great tape I would buy again.

Everything about this tool was pleasing to my husband. It is sturdy, easy to read and easy to maneuver. There is no set up required, it works right out of the box after inserting the batteries. It comes with a small screwdriver and batteries to make the first use easy. The read out is big enough for aging eyesight and the overall feel of the tool is sturdy.

2 stars for features autolock, measurements on both sides, the nylon coating, ease of use, and design. The laser measurement is 3 inches different than the tape, for $45 that"s retarded. It should be accurate. I"m returning it. Purchase at your own risk.

Got this for white on black display. Laser works ok but several mm uncertainty. But the steel tape measure is crap, it wgot kinked and broken quickly on first time I used it, and it doesn’t read out digitally, and is hard to read.

Great product.Laser makes it quick and easy to measure by yourself. Bought 3 as stocking stuffers. My husband and the others really like these tape measures. Highly recommend. :)

I"ve had this for a few weeks and so far I"ve been extremely pleased with the performance. I have an older-style laser measurer that reports in decimal. For woodworking, I really like that it shows the measurements in Ft, inches, fraction and the tape measure also has measurements printed. Makes it much quicker/accurate for me to work on projects.The one thing I wish was that the text for the fractions was a bit larger, but I definitely understand that it would be hard to fit in a display that size.I would consider myself only a hobbyist woodworker, but I really like this as a replacement for two of my current tools. I definitely recommend this purchase!

For some reason, they have to put inch/inch on the top side of the blade while the inch/cm at the backside of the blade. It might not be something troublesome for an American family, but it is just inconvenient for people who might need both cm/inch reads frequently.The later measure is sharp and nice to have.

This is a pretty versatile tape measure. The hook on the end of the tape shifts position to give you exact measurements whether you"re reaching over the edge of something or pushing the tape up against it. It"s also plastic (which reduces the chances of scratching whatever you"re measuring) and magnetized in case what you"re measuring is magnetic.Of course the real spectacle is the laser measurement feature. Push a button and the laser puts a dot on whatever it"s going to measure against, push it again and it will take a measurement and display it on the screen. It also displays the previous measurement so it makes comparing measurement from two different spots simple without having to have a pencil handy.The tape measure subtracts its own width from the distance measured with the laser, so you can basically just butt it up against a wall and take the measurement in a couple of seconds.The screen is backlit, clear and protected by a pretty hard lens (I"m not 100% sure but it looks like Lexan). It uses a high contrast LCD so the numbers are lit and the background is black. It was clearly meant to be used primarily indoors though as it’s hard to see in direct sunlight.The tape has an auto-clutch mechanism so it holds as you pull it out without requiring you to lock it in place. It won"t retract until you press the button to retract it.If I had one suggestion for improvement it would be to make tape wider. I"ve gotten very used to measures like the Stanley Fatmax - the wide tape tends to stay rigid over longer distances. That"s not to say that the Lexivon"s tape isn"t decent - it"s just a typical tape measure width. If it was wider that would make this the ultimate tape measure.The other cool thing is that this measure comes with a pack of AAA batteries and an actual screwdriver. This is a nice, sturdy tape measure. I purchased it primarily for the laser measuring capabilities. It works fine indoors, outside has been another matter. For me, distances outside greater than 5 feet consistently error out. It seems I might need to purchase a "laser target plate". I haven"t had the chance to figure that out yet as a search for such an item from the measuring device manufacturer has not yeilded any results.

I measured using both a tape measure and the new laser measure. They appear to be the about the same. Probably the laser is more accurate and much easier to use for longer distances with a wall for the laser to spot off of. Of course the tape would probably be easier for short distances and measuring items without a wall behind to spot the laser off of. The laser is fairly easy to operate just button pushing and aiming, Follow the instructions.

This is a good laser tape at an excellent price point. It has several modes for various units of measurement, and is intuitive to use (just point the red light to what you want to measure and push the button on the side). It seems to be accurate, and it"s nice that it also has the lockable manual tape for when you want that feature. To switch units, just push the button on the side.Our only criticism of this tape is the location of the button for laser measuring. Because it"s on the side, and not a place where your fingers would be, it"s hard to push the button without jostling the unit and moving your dot. It"s just awkward; not a huge deal, but if the button was located in an area where your fingers would naturally rest, it would be much easier to use.This is a handy tool at a good price. I"ll update if it doesn"t last long, but thus far it seems sturdy and it"s very useful. We like the fact that it does the job of two tools (a laser measure and a standard tape measure).

As a non tradesperson building a cabin, this device is so handy. my skill with a tape measure is basic, prior to beginning my project, I thought all tape measures were the same and would be very easy to use. ... I was wrong. The type , material and laser (I didn"t know a tape measure could have a laser) makes a world of difference. The tape doesn"t retract until you want it to. These are minor details but they make a world of difference.

I was installing 24 steel channels in my backyard. Halfway through the project I was noticing that I was off by 1/8 or 1/4 in my measurement and cutting. That caused problem in my welding as I had to weld a larger gap.After getting LEXIVON Digital Laser Tape Measure, I was able to accurate measure distance between two post. I could easily get two measurements to confirm. It trimmed my gap down to 1/16 to 1/8.I appreciate the simplicity of one button digital tape measure. It"s easy to use.I find it so useful that I would buy it as a present.

It measures in running inches On the actual tape so you actually have to do math to figure out feet and inches. Sounds silly but simplicity and quickness are what tools are supposed to help with. The laser measuring is amazing!!

I use this tape / laser measurer everyday for my job. The 16" tape is good for smaller measurements like back splashes, counter tops, and small bathrooms. The laser is so convenient for larger spans of areas. Accuracy is spot on.

I haven’t compared the laser measurements to other units yet, but it seems fairly accurate. I used the laser to measure out the layout of my home to create a map, and everything seems to line up pretty well. Having it built in to a tape measure turns out to be very useful. The display is very nice and easy to read. So far, no issues. I’ll try to add some photos the next time I use it, and possibly a comparison to a few other units I have to see how the accuracy is.

Works as expected and super handy! The laser"s quite bright and works in everything except bright sunlight (only because it"s hard to see what you"re lasing). Having a physical tape measure eliminates one of the other issues I"ve had with my other laser measure -- if you need to cut or do something with that (or there isn"t a wall or surface to ping, like the end of a board), you"re SOL. With this, you have both tools in one and that"s fantastic!It"s no bigger than a normal Stanley tape measure, the tape is easy to read, and self-stopping. Overall, this is a great item and I"m really happy with it. Definitely pick this up over a normal tape measure because of the 2-in-1, this can"t be overstated.

I needed smaller increments on the laser tape. Meaning it gave feet and inches when I need inches only. Couldn"t set it to that setting. This worked great and couldn"t be easier to use.

The measuring tape is great but the laser is not accurate. You have to subtract 3.375" with every measurement which defeats the purpose of having an accurate laser measurement...
