At CEDIA 2017, the Dana Innovations brand added a premium tier to its selection of iPad wall- and tabletop-mounting systems. iPort also unveiled its first on-wall battery-operated Sonos keypad controller.

iPort’s latest mounting systems, called Luxeport, turn iPads into touchscreen home-control interfaces when other companies’ home-control apps are installed. The Luxeport products will be available later this year through custom-AV installers and the company’s web site. The products will be followed sometime in mid 2018 with versions that add Wi-Fi hard buttons, which can be programmed to operate specific functions or scenes.

Another way to control a Sonos system is with the $100 on-wall Sonos xPRESS keypad, which uses Wi-Fi to control various Sonos functions, including volume, play/pause, and track up/down. One key can be used to toggle through Sonos playlists. A software update will let you program Sonos scenes into the keypad, such as a party scene to send music to various rooms at different volume levels. The keypad runs on a rechargeable battery lasting up to six months. It can be mounted with peel-and-stick tape or with an included two-gang Decora adapter, which lets you install the keypad next to a single-gang light switch.

The Zones screen displays all of the available zones on the Sonos Music System. The big advantage of the new CR200 controller is the touch screen and the ability to control so much in such a small area. The Zone Group button allows the user to easily group zones together so that music selection and volume levels affect all zones in that group. Adding and dropping zones are simple and intuitive using this interface. The All Zones - Party Mode soft button automatically ties all the zones together for single control of the music being played in the entire house. There is also a Pause All Zones at the bottom of the Zones screen that will silence all zones in the house. Each independent zone shown on the Zones screen displays the current music being played. The left arrow at the bottom of the screen takes the user back to the previous screen.

The selected zone will display the current music in the Now Playing screen. The Track, Artist, and Album along with cover art is displayed on the screen. Customized songs or albums that lack cover art can be created and saved into the music folder using the name folder.jpg. We did this for our U2 Vertigo songs and used the cover art from the DVD. Sonos offers this flexibility and works very well.

The upper right has icons for toggling Random play and Repeat. The top of the display always shows the signal level, current time, and the battery level. Soft keys are provided for previous and next tracks along with a pause/play button. The next song in the queue is also shown on the screen. A Music Menu and View Queue buttons are available.

The Music Menu defines what music is being played for the selected zone. The Music Library button is used to search by artist, album, composer, or tracks. A QWERTY keyboard is displayed when searching, which is something the earlier CR100 could not do. Playlists created from the song database can be saved and later recalled using the Sonos Playlists button. The More Music button has additional content from Last.fm, Napster, Pandora Radio, Rhapsody, and SIRIUS. The Settings button is used to configure the System Settings, which include Music Library Management, Music Service Setup, Add a Zone, ZonePlayer Settings, ZoneBridge Settings, Controller Settings, Online Updates, Advanced Settings, and About You Sonos System. The Radiobutton has a list of various internet radio stations including local stations from your area. Line In selects the physical line inputs from the current zone player. Alarms is used to program alarm settings as well as configure the time and date format. This menu will also display other computers containing music content on the network.

through the items on the screen operates much like the iPhone interface, where swiping vertically scrolls through the list. Sonos makes it easy to delete items from the current playist and save the results to an existing or new name.

The new CR200 controller is sleeker, lighter and offers a superior screen to the older CR100 controller. The new design does take some getting used to and my wife was the first

her opinion. After much time with the controller it became apparent that the new design offers a real performance advantage to the older design in many ways. The touch screen provides a much more powerful user interface over the dedicated buttons and scroll wheel on the CR100. In short time speed and efficiency exceeded what we could do on the original model. While we still like the original CR100 design, the new CR200 is clearly better.

Sonos has come out with a worthy replacement for their original CR100and delivered a product that exceeded earlier performance. Both controllers seemed to work well together with one updating the screen content of the other. This is important for users who are adding the new controller to an existing system that may already have include CR100"s. Those with really large fingers may have a more difficult time with some of the controls on the screen due to the screen size. However, the soft keys were rather large, making it more friendly for all. Even though

the new CR200 offers more power and portability, I still have a soft spot for the older CR100. We were happy to see the new addition to the Sonos family and it worked perfectly with the existing components in the system.

Multi-Room Music System. Whereas the original Controller 100 (CR100) provided an LCD display with an iPod-Click-Wheel-like interface, the Controller 200 (CR200) uses a 3.5-inch, full-color, VGA touchscreen display similar to the one on the iPhone and iPod touch.

Sonos Controller for iPhone application. The company told Macworld it used the iPhone app as a testing ground for perfecting the Controller’s software interface. (The controller also provides hardware buttons for Volume, Mute, and Zones.)

While the CR200 lacks the CR100’s water-resistant casing, it gains a much more powerful interface for navigating your music, finding new music, and controlling the Music System. Key among the improvements, thanks to the touchscreen display, are iPhone-like navigation gestures and an onscreen keyboard that makes entering search strings, and creating custom radio stations on services such as Last.fm and Pandora, much easier than it was on the CR100. In addition, the CR200 is now made of machined extruded aluminum, instead of plastic, provides longer battery life, and includes a charging cradle; the cradle was a $40 accessory for the 100.

The Controller 200 is available today at a suggested retail price of $349. It is also available as part of a new $999 Sonos Bundle 250, which also includes a ZonePlayer 120 and a ZonePlayer 90.

Sonos also unveiled Sonos Software 3.0, a significant update to the Music System’s core software. The 3.0 software provides new tools for browsing and discovering music when using the CR200 or Sonos’ iPhone app. According to the company, when listening to an artist, these tools let you easily view artist bios, album reviews, concert listings, and lists of similar artists.

If you can afford it, treat yourself to the Sofabaton X1. I use this remote to control my Sonos speakers, my Philips Hue lights, several streamers, as well as my home theater. And I love it for all of the above reasons.

What I like best personally about using x1 with Sonos is the Alexa integration. I can just say, “Alexa play Rock music.” And it automatically plays my Rock playlist on my Sonos speakers in the desired rooms at the desired volume.

Are remotes like x1 and the Harmony Elite too expensive to justify the cost?  What features are important to you when trying to control Sonos with a remote?  What is your take on the wall mounts?  If you really wanted to, you could install a few wall mounts in addition to using the X1 or Harmony remote for the ultimate in Sonos control.

It would be amazing to have a Sonos solution to this need. My speakers are out of reach and a very simple solution would be something like the attached picture. These could be placed next to existing light switchs where power is easily accessible (so you don"t have to charge them) and could ideally be paired with zones or work globally. While the app is great, getting to it quickly to change the volume or pausing is not easy or even possible some times. I realize that some would like more control and info, like that of the CR100, in a hard button controller but if you have the time to browse music options you probably have time to navigate to the app too - this is really about making a quick change. Please consider adding this product.

Also, if using an HDMI screen/TV, it’s probably more convenient to power the Pi via USB port on the TV. Don’t need an extra outlet available and Pi would only get power when the TV is on.  Although it looks like the Pi Zero W sellers don’t recommend something like that due to unreliable voltage. Might be something I would try anyways.

Getting Started Adding a Sonos CONTROL Note: The Sonos CONTROL requires that you have one or more Sonos players and a wireless router set up in your home. Sonos components are sold separately. You can also use this button to lock the Sonos CONTROL so that nothing happens when you touch the screen (such as when cleaning the screen, or carrying the CONTROL in your pocket.) To lock the Sonos CONTROL, touch and hold for two (2) seconds. To unlock, simply touch and hold the button again. Music menu Touch to browse or select music, access playlists, and change the default settings for a Sonos component.

Sonos CONTROL 3 View Queue Touch to view the tracks in the current queue. Back Touch to return to the previous screen. Info & Options Touch on the Now Playing screen to view additional choices or view more information for a music selection. Playback Controls Play / Pause Toggles between playing and pausing the current track. Next / Fast Forward Jumps to the start of the next track in the music queue. 4 Product Guide Volume Volume Control Use the volume control buttons to increase (+) or decrease (-) the volume in any room, or across a room group. Mute Temporarily silences the music in a room. Touch again to unmute. To mute all rooms, touch and hold for 3 seconds. Touch and hold for 3 seconds to unmute all rooms. Settings Lock You can lock the Sonos CONTROL so that nothing happens when you touch the LCD touch screen or buttons. Choose one of the following options: • From the Settings menu, select Controller Settings -> Lock Controller. Or, • Touch and hold for two (2) seconds. When ready to unlock, simply touch and hold for two (2) seconds. Sounds The Sonos CONTROL makes a clicking sound when you touch a selection. You can choose to turn all sounds on, turn all sounds off, or enable keyboard sounds only. From the Settings menu, select Controller Settings -> Controller Sounds. Light Sleep The Sonos CONTROL will go into light sleep (the screen will turn off) to preserve the battery life when it is unused for a specified period of time. When motion is detected or a button is pressed, the Sonos CONTROL awakens immediately. From the Settings menu, select Controller Settings -> Sleep Timer Undocked/Docked. • Sleep Timer Docked (when CONTROL is seated in charging cradle) • Sleep Timer Undocked (when CONTROL is not seated in charging cradle or attached to power) Screen Brightness 1. From the Settings menu, select Controller Settings -> Screen Brightness. 2. Drag your finger across the slider to adjust the brightness of the controller screen. Button Brightness 1. From the Settings menu, select Controller Settings -> Button Brightness. 2. Drag your finger across the slider to adjust the brightness of the buttons on your controller.

Sonos CONTROL 5 The button brightness is controlled by the light sensor, so the button brightness will vary depending upon your environment (such as whether it’s night or day, or whether your are inside or outside your home.) Motion sensor The Sonos CONTROL has a motion sensor to automatically wake it up when motion is detected. Select this setting if you wish to disable the motion sensor. From the Settings menu, select Controller Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Motion Sensor. Language Use this setting to change the language setting for your Sonos CONTROL. From the Settings menu, select Controller Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Language. Turning Off the Controller 1. Touch Controller Settings from the Settings menu. 2. Touch Advanced Settings -> Turn Off Controller. To turn it back on, simply place the controller into the charging cradle. Use this setting to put your Sonos CONTROL into deep sleep anytime it will not be in use for an extended period of time, or when you are transporting the controller to another destination. (The Sonos CONTROL cannot be turned off while it is seated in the charging cradle.) Recharging The Sonos CONTROL can be recharged by placing it in the Sonos Charging Cradle. The Battery Charge Indicator on your controller displays the current battery charge level. To extend the battery life, it’s best not to let the Lithium Ion battery discharge completely before recharging. Keep the controller seated in the charging cradle when not in use, as this type of battery does not suffer from memory effect and can be charged anytime. If the battery charge begins to run low, a message will appear on your controller screen indicating that it’s time to recharge. Simply place it in the cradle to recharge. If you should miss this message and the CONTROL’s battery discharges completely, simply place the controller into the charging cradle. The CONTROL’s light sensor will turn orange, indicating that a reset is in process. It will take a few minutes for the controller screen to wake up. Battery Replacement After several years (depending upon usage), the battery on your CONTROL may not hold a charge as long as it once did. You can purchase a replacement battery (visit our website at www.sonos.com for more information), and then follow the instructions below to replace the battery. Caution: Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries according to the instructions. (Check with your local waste or recycling company to determine the proper disposal method in your area.)

6 Product Guide 1. Remove the battery door on the back of your CONTROL. Slide the battery door back, and then lift it off 2. Remove the existing battery by gently pulling the gray battery tab toward you to dislodge the battery, and then lift up to remove. 3. Remove the protective wrap from the new battery. 4. Insert the battery into the battery compartment with the Sonos logo facing out, making sure the battery snaps gently into place. 5. Close the battery door. 6. Place the Sonos CONTROL into the charging cradle to wake it up. Managing Rooms Sonos lets you enjoy music in up to 32 rooms, inside or out. You can play a different song in every room or play the same song in every room. Group the kitchen and patio together when you’re barbecuing; group the rooms throughout your home in perfect synchronization for a party; or leave all your rooms ungrouped so that everyone can make a different music choice. You can also create a stereo pair with two PLAY:1®s, PLAY:3®s, or PLAY:5®s in the same room to enhance your listening experience. Grouping Rooms Any number of rooms can be grouped together to play the same audio in synchrony. • You can group or ungroup rooms while music is playing. • You can group all the Sonos players in your house with one touch by choosing Select All. • You can group rooms first and then select the music you want to play, or you can add room(s) to a location where music is already playing. Any rooms you group will automatically drop their current music queue and begin to play the music from the selected room. • If you want to be able to play a music queue later, save the queue as a Sonos playlist before you group the rooms. See "Sonos Playlists" on page 12 for more information.

A Sonos playlist is a music queue you create and then save for future listening. For example, you might want to create a jazz playlist, a party playlist, or an easy listening playlist. What is a docked iPod? The Sonos DOCK allows you to play music stored on your docked iPod or iPhone in any or every room of your home, all perfectly synchronized. What is Line-in? You can connect an external source like a CD player, portable music player, television, or AirPlay device to your Sonos system, and stream the audio to any or all Sonos components (PLAY:5, CONNECT™, or CONECT:AMP™) around your house. Radio Sonos includes a radio guide that provides access to thousands of free Internet radio stations and broadcast programs. Adding a station or show to My Radio When you add a radio station to My Radio Stations (or a show to My Radio Shows), it is duplicated, not removed, from the original radio list. 1. From the Music menu, touch Radio. 2. Browse to find a radio station or radio show. 3. Select the station or show, and then touch . 4. Touch Add to My Radio Stations or Add to My Radio Shows. Note: Audio from docked iPods, wireless playback from iOS and Android devices, and line-in sources cannot be added to Sonos Favorites since these music sources may not always be available to your Sonos system. Adding a Sonos Favorite 1. From the MUSIC menu, browse to find the selection you want to add to your Sonos Favorites. Note: Sonos Playlists can’t be added to Sonos Favorites using the CONTROL. Use a different controller if you want to do this. 2. Touch , and choose Add to Sonos Favorites. Note: To add the selection you are currently listening to, touch from the NOW PLAYING pane and choose Add to Sonos Favorites. Playing a Sonos Favorite 1. From the Rooms screen, touch the room you want to play music in. 2. Select Sonos Favorites from the MUSIC menu. 3. Touch the selection you wish to play, and choose one of the following options: • Play Now to add the selection to the end of the queue and start playing it. • Play Next to add the selection to the music queue as the next selection to play. • Add to Queue to add the selection to the end of your music queue. • Replace Queue to remove the contents of the current queue and replace it with this selection. • to display additional options, such as adding a track to your Sonos Favorites or viewing artist/album information. Note: The options that appear depend on the music source you have selected. Adding a Sonos Favorite to a Sonos playlist 1. Select Sonos Favorites from the MUSIC menu. 2. Sonos Playlists Sonos playlists are music queues you create and save for future listening. For example, you might want to create a jazz playlist, a party playlist, or an easy listening playlist. Once you’ve created a playlist, simply select Sonos Playlists from the Music menu to play it back. Note: You can build playlists from multiple music service accounts, but you will not have the ability to see which account the tracks came from. Searching for Music You can use the search feature to look for music selections within your music library or some music services. 1. From the Music menu, select the music source your want to search (your music library or a music service.) 2. Touch Search, and select a search criteria (artists, albums, composers, or tracks). 3. Use the keyboard to type a full or partial name. 4. If you don’t receive any search results, touch to try again.

Sonos CONTROL 15 Managing the Music Queue Once you have added tracks to a queue, you can make changes to the music queue using the queue controls. Sonos playlists are music queues you create and save for future listening. For more information, see "Sonos Playlists" on page 12. Note: Wireless playback from iOS and Android devices allows you to select and play music and podcasts stored on any iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android device that’s on the same network as your Sonos products. If there are tracks in the queue from a mobile device that is not currently available to Sonos, you may see a message indicating that the selection cannot be played at this time. This clears the entire queue in the selected room and the music stops playing. Saving a queue as a Sonos playlist • Click Save while viewing the queue. You can access these playlists anytime by selecting Sonos Playlists from the Music menu. Note: Tracks that reside on your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or your Android device are not included in a Sonos playlist. Changing the play mode 1. Display the Now Playing screen. 2. Touch the Play Mode drop-down in the upper right corner. 3. Touch the Shuffle, Repeat, and/or Crossfade icons to change the play mode. The play mode icons brighten white while activated. Shuffle Changes the order of the tracks in the music queue. Turn shuffle off to return the tracks to their original playback order. Turn shuffle on again and get a different mix. Repeat Repeats the music queue after the last track has finished.

Sonos CONTROL 17 Crossfade Fades out the current track while fading in the next track to create a smooth transition between tracks. Clocks and Alarms Setting date and time 1. From the Music menu, select Settings. 2. Touch Date and Time Settings to select the way in which date and time settings are determined and displayed on the CONTROL. Adding an alarm 1. From the Music menu, touch Alarms -> Alarms. 2. Touch New Alarm. 3. Select the desired settings for this alarm, including the alarm time, the room you would like the alarm to play in, the music source you’d like to play from, the frequency of the alarm, and the volume setting. Note: If the music you’ve selected is not available when the alarm goes off (such as an Internet radio station that has dropped off), your alarm plays the Sonos chime instead. 4. Touch Advanced to select additional alarm preferences: • Duration — select the length of time you want the alarm music to play. • Include Grouped Rooms — if you touch Yes, the alarm plays in the rooms that are linked together when the alarm goes off (not in the rooms that were linked together at the time the alarm was set). • Show Clock on this Controller — select On if you want a clock to display on this controller when the alarm sounds. • Shuffle Music — select On if you want the play mode for the selected alarm music set to shuffle. 5. Touch Save Alarm when you finish choosing the alarm settings. Setting an alarm 1. From the Music menu, touch Alarms -> Alarms. 2. Select the alarm you wish to set, tap Alarm (Off), so it displays Alarm (On). Note: You can also turn on an alarm when adding or editing it. Changing an alarm 1. From the Music menu, tap Alarms -> Alarms. 2. Select the alarm you wish to change. 3. Change the alarm settings, and then touch Save Alarm.

18 Product Guide Deleting an alarm 1. From the Music menu, touch Alarms -> Alarms. 2. Select the alarm you wish to delete, and touch Delete Alarm. Setting a sleep timer 1. From the Music menu, touch Alarms -> Sleep Timer. 2. Select a sleep timer duration. Turning off the alarm When the alarm goes off, touch Stop Alarm from the Now Playing screen to turn off the alarm. Showing the clock screen Once an alarm has been added to your Sonos system, you can set a preference to have the clock screen show automatically on a Sonos CONTROL when the alarm sounds. 1. From the Music menu, select Alarms. 2. Touch Alarms, and then select the alarm from the list. 3. Select Advanced -> Show Clock on this Controller. (If you want the clock to show on another Sonos CONTROL, repeat this process on the other controller.) Turning Off the Music System Your Sonos system is designed to be always on; the system uses minimal electricity whenever it is not playing music. • To quickly stop streaming audio in all rooms, touch Pause All from the Rooms screen. • To quickly stop streaming audio in a room or room group, press the Play/Pause button on a Sonos player (may appear as a Mute icon on some players). Your Sonos products remain off until you touch or press the Play/Pause button on a player to restart each room or room group. Online Updates Sonos periodically provides you with software updates to improve performance or to add new features. Your Sonos system must be registered to receive updates. If you have not yet registered, go to https://faq.sonos.com/register for help with this step. When there is a software update available, the Update Now! icon appears on the Music menu.

Sonos CONTROL 19 • Touch the Update Now! icon to begin the update process. • Your Sonos products will all be updated, as they must carry the same software version number. This process may take several minutes per product, depending upon your network connection. • One or more products may need to be updated later if you purchase a new product with a later software version, or if you plug in a components that was not in use when you performed your last software update. • If you have another Sonos controller, you will be prompted to update it the next time you use it. For additional information, go to http://faq.sonos.com/updateerror. Caution: Do not disconnect power from your Sonos products, or in any way disable your Sonos system while this process is running. Contact Sonos Customer Support if an error occurs. Basic Troubleshooting Warning: Do not open a device as there is a risk of electric shock. Under no circumstances should the product be repaired by anyone other than an authorized Sonos repair center, as this will invalidate the warranty. Please contact Sonos Customer Support for more information. If a problem occurs, you can try the troubleshooting suggestions listed below. If one of these doesn’t remedy the problem, or you are not sure how to proceed, please contact the Sonos Customer Support team and we’ll be happy to help. Reset the Sonos CONTROL If the Sonos CONTROL’s screen should ever become unresponsive, you can remove the battery from the back of the unit, and then immediately put it back in. Place the CONTROL into the charging cradle for a few moments to wake it up. Restart the Sonos CONTROL There may be an occasion when you need to renew your DHCP lease (get a new IP address from your Internet provider"s DHCP server.) If this occurs, you can restart your CONTROL by selecting Controller Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Restart Controller from the Settings menu. Can’t add the Sonos CONTROL to your Sonos system 1. Turn off any 2.4GHz cordless phones. Some 2.4GHz cordless telephones can cause wireless interference. If turning off your 2.4GHz cordless phone resolves the problem, you should consider switching to a 5.8Ghz or 900Mhz phone (or change the wireless channel your Sonos system is operating on). 2. Put 108 Mbps wireless routers into 54 Mbps mode. Sonos cannot function properly when a router is operating in turbo mode. To double the speed from 54 Mbps to 108 Mbps, the router goes into a wide bandwidth mode which uses most of the 2.4 GHz spectrum that the FCC has set aside for 802.11b/g devices. This means that interference (RF noise) will occur with any other 2.4 GHz device that is not operating on

20 Product Guide the same channel as the 108 Mbps device (usually channel 6). While it is possible to put all of your wireless devices on channel 6, it is unwise. The devices will have to compete for available bandwidth, and your entire wireless network will become sluggish. 3. Change the wireless channel your Sonos system is operating on. Important Safety Information 1. Read these instructions. 2. Keep these instructions. 3. Heed all warnings. 4. Follow all instructions. 5. Do not use this apparatus near water. 6. Clean only with dry soft cloth. Household cleaners or solvents can damage the finish on your Sonos products. 7.
