Keep in mind that a malfunctioning pixel can either be dead or stuck. Simply put, a pixel is a dot on your screen that turns on or off and changes color according to the image that your device wants to display. Sometimes, it will occurs that pixels can malfunction. Once again, in reality, pixel malfunctions are caused by sub pixels defects. One, two and even all three of them can be damaged. Sub pixels can either be completely broken so that they don"t light up anymore, or they can be stuck and permanently lit. Is thus necessary to distinguish several cases:
One or two dead sub pixel might result in your pixel remaining black only on some colors. For instance, if the dead sub pixel is the blue one, the pixel will remain black only on colors with some amount of blue in them. It won’t have any problem with yellow, for instance (green + red), but show black if it needs to display pink (blue + red).
One, two, or all three sub pixels might be stuck and can’t turn off anymore. For instance, if both the blue and the green one are stuck, your pixel will be stuck on light blue.

First, it is necessary to say that you have way more chances to fix stuck pixels than dead pixels. Stuck pixels can technically still light up, while dead pixels seemingly cannot. In both cases, there are a few things worth trying.
Grab a piece of soft cloth and gently rub your dead pixel or your stuck pixel. Try applying more and more pressure. Remove your cloth, and if you’re lucky, your pixel should work properly again. Try this at your own risk.

All of these software work on the same principle of flashing colors. You can change the colors either manually or automatically after some defined period. DeadPix is a free dead pixel finder software. It is a two-in-one software which is intended to findandfix stuck pixels on an LCD or LED screen. For that, you get two options: Locator (to find the dead pixel) and Pixel Fixer (to fix the pixel).
The Locator section comes with five colors (four fixed colors and one custom color) to perform an LCD test. You can select any of the four colors (red, green, blue, and black) manually or let them change at a particular interval of time by enabling Random option.

Rizonesoft Pixel Repair is another free dead pixel test software for Windows. It is clearly indicated on the interface that Pixel Repair is intended to repair only stuck pixels, but not the black ones. Also, it won’t work every time. Hence, you can use it to detect dead pixels or stuck pixels on your screen but in case of repairing pixels, you should not rely on this one.
Its Dead Pixel Locator section has 8 colors, namely, white, black, red, green, blue, yellow, magenta, and cyan. If your screen has any dead pixel, it will appear on any of these 8 colors.
Color Mode is another dead pixel finder mode of this software. Here, you will get 7 different color combinations. On selecting any of these color combinations, the color of the screen starts flashing. You can vary the speed of flashing of colors with the help of a slider. After starting the color mode, you can view it on full screen on pressing the F11 key.
Injured Pixels For Windows is yet another free pixel checker software. As you launch the software, it fills the complete screen with any of the available colors (black, white, red, green, blue, and custom). The custom color option opens a color palette from which you can select the color of your choice to perform a dead pixel test. If there is any dead pixel on your desktop screen, it is highlighted in any of the colors.
WTY-DisplayDiag is yet another free dead pixel finder software for Windows. It is a multipurpose software which has several advantages other than detecting a dead pixel on the screen.
The Dead Pixel test of this software contains 8 screens of different colors including black, red, green, blue, white, pink, etc. Use spacebar or backspace keys to toggle among the colors. If there is any dead pixel on your screen, it will be highlighted in any of the colors. No matter whether you have completed the dead pixel test or not, you can abort LCD test anytime by pressing ESC key.
Apart from detecting a dead pixel, you can verify the high and low-intensity areas on the screen, perform fine tuning for brightness and contrast, setup quick brightness, contrast, and color of the display, etc.
LCDTester is another free and simple dead pixel test software. It lets you perform a monitor pixel test by switching among five colors: white, black, red, green, and blue. To begin an LCD test, you have to click on Begin button on its interface, after which the entire screen turns into white color. If you do not view any dead pixel in white color, you can switch to next color with left mouse click. When you want to finish/terminate the monitor pixel test, press any key.
LCDTest is one more free and simple dead pixel test software for Windows. It is a portable software, so you can use it to detect dead or stuck pixels on any computer without installing. After starting the test, the entire screen is filled with the white color. Look carefully at the screen to find out a dead pixel. If the dead pixel does not appear, switch to another color by pressing the left mouse click or arrow keys. The dead pixel test will be completed after passing through 5 colors, which are white, red, green, blue, and black. You can restart the test again.
lcdtest is another free and useful dead pixel finder software for Windows. You can test your LCD/LED screens with 5 available colors: red, blue, green, white, and black. For each of the available colors, hotkeys are defined, pressing which you can switch among them. There is no custom color adding feature provided in the software.
DefectPX is another simple application to find a dead pixel. Simply launch the application and click anywhere on the screen to change the color. You can also use left mouse click to switch among the available colors. Along with the primary colors (red, green, and blue), two more colors (black and white) are also provided. Moreover, there is also an option to add a custom color from a color palette.
RGB Boxes divides the whole screen into four parts; each having a different color (red, green, blue, and white). You can maximize the white color to full screen in the Pure White method, but I did not find any option to maximize any of the primary colors to full screen. Due to unavailability of this feature, there may be a great chance to miss a dead pixel on the screen. The Grid Linesmethod generates a grid pattern on the entire screen, whereas Text mode fills the complete screen with some text.

You can change the colors by pressing the arrow keys. You can run it on both full screen and compact screen modes. Pressing backspace key will terminate the dead pixel test.
Defpix is a very simple dead pixel test software. As you begin monitor pixel test, it fills the entire desktop screen with red color to find any dead pixels. Now, you just have to press any key to change the color. It has only five colors to display. Also, no custom color option is provided in the software.

Should none of these tools resolve your stuck or dead pixel issue, here is one last chance. You can combine any of the tools detailed above and the magic power of your own hands. This works because, in a stuck pixel, the liquid in one or more of its sub-pixels has not spread equally. When your screen"s backlight turns on, different amounts of liquid pass through the pixel to create different colors. When you apply pressure, you"re forcing the liquid out, and when you release the pressure, chances are the liquid will push in, spreading around evenly as it should.
When all attempts to revive your bad pixel fail, the next best thing you can do is to make peace with it. One ugly pixel won"t break your screen, and eventually, you"ll forget about it. If the defect affects more than a single pixel, however, or just bothers you a lot, you can always replace your monitor.
First, check the warranty. The manufacturer or the marketplace where you purchased the monitor might cover dead pixels. Note that most manufacturers define a maximum number of allowable bad pixels for specific resolutions, and the warranty won"t apply until your monitor crosses that threshold.
Bright or dark sub-pixels can occur during the production of the LCD Monitor panel but does not affect the LCD Monitor functionality. On a monitor with over 12 million pixels (Wide QXGA+, 2560x1600 pixels), for example, LG"s pixel policy says that 12 bright or dark sub-pixels is the maximum you have to tolerate.
Should all of these approaches fail to fix your dead pixel warrior, at least you"ll now know it"s not simple to fix, and, you might actually have to replace the screen.

Once downloaded, PixelHealer will present you with a colored box window and a settings menu. It is important to note, though, that users who are sensitive to flashing images should not look directly at the box/app window, because as the app runs, the window will then flash multiple colors in quick succession.
PixelHealer is more likely to work on a stuck pixel that shows signs of life than a dead pixel, which may stay unresponsive, but there’s a chance it can fix both, so give this dead pixel fix a try regardless of how your wounded pixel is behaving.
With such a straightforward name, you know that Dead Pixels Test and Fix (DPTF) is a quick and easy dead pixel fix for locating and potentially repairing dead or stuck pixels. It’s a free app and features an interface that is both self-explanatory and easy to navigate. DPTF assumes the same process as its competitor apps, using a series of solid color blank-outs on your screen to reveal damaged pixels.
The developers recommend that you let DPTF run for at least 10 minutes to fix all of the pixels, but we had better results when we left it running for a couple of hours so it had time to fix all of the dead pixels. You’re going to need to have a full battery or your device connected to a power source while you execute this tool.
