haier portable dvd player with 7 tft lcd monitor manufacturer

Having bought this portable DVD player to keep my 3 year old son occupied on a recent road-trip, I hadn"t given much thought to what I would like to get out of it. I just wanted it to work. I was pleasantly surprised.

Not only does it work great as a portable DVD player, it works well as a standard DVD player. I have had it connected to my standard definition television as well as my LCD projector, and it has worked roughly the same as if I would have tried to connect a larger, typical DVD player.

I have had 2 incidents with it where I have not been able to un-pause it. That hasn"t happened lately though, and am not sure why it would have done that.

Lastly, the most common gripe... as with everything else in the world, I wish the battery would run longer between recharging. I get about 2 1/2 hours off of one charge. About the right time for a movie, but there is always the possibility of cutting the end of your movie off.

Back in the day, about 1998 I paid $450 for a little Panasonic DVD player [still have it.] Since then I have bought other players, each time the price going down.

IMHO in 2008 for one to get a DVD player for this price is insane. Especially since it is a TFT display and has a radio. As boom boxes go it’s pretty nice, IMHO. The inclusion of the TV is not even relevant. Heck, I remember when portable color TVs cost more than this.

Clearly the only reason it is priced so low is because word is out about analog TV signals going kaput in about 11 months, so any analog TVs are being shunned by consumers notwithstanding that one can connect a $40 converter to get digital signals.

Look for more and more analog television deals all over the Net [and on Woot] in the next few months. People simply don’t understand what is going on with the conversion to digital, all they see is a TV that does not work. So the deals will be outstanding.

One warning though, I dunno anything about this brand name. One time I bought a couple Coby portable DVD players [were a steal at the time, new in box.] Well the one Coby stopped working after about six months. It would play a movie about a half-hour then start acting up. I thought it might be a heat issue, but when I had a fan blowing on the player, it still acted up after about a half hour.

In any event, my “vintage” Panasonic players [have two] from 1998 still play perfect. Coby is a budget brand. So was the problem that the Coby was a cheaply made player?

A long-winded way of simply wondering how reliable this Haier model is. I have never heard of them, so does that mean it will crap out? Just thinking out loud.
