The various LCD Panel blocks are a great way to add a human touch to a ship or base by displaying useful images or text. For LCD configuration and usage, see LCD Surface Options.

Note: Some functional blocks, such as Cockpits, Programmable Blocks, Custom Turret Controllers, and Button Panels, have customizable LCD surfaces built in that work the same way as LCD Panel blocks, which are also discussed in detail under LCD Surface Options.

LCD Panels need to be built on a powered grid to work. Without power, they display an "Offline" text. While powered without having a text, image, or script set up, they display "Online".

LCD Panel blocks come in a variety of sizes from tiny to huge (see list below) and are available for large and small grid sizes. Note that LCD Panel blocks all have connections on their backs, and very few also on a second side.

All LCD Panels and LCD surfaces work with the same principle: They are capable of displaying dynamic scripts, or few inbuilt static images accompanied by editable text. Access the ship"s Control Panel Screen to configure LCD Panels or LCD surfaces; or face the LCD Panel block and press "K".

A Text Panel, despite its name, can also display images. On large grid, it is rectangular and does not fully cover the side of a 1x1x1 block. On small grid it is 1x1x1, the smallest possible LCD block in game.

On large grid, you choose the Text Panel when you need something that has rectangular dimensions that make it look like a wall-mounted TV or computer screen. If you want to display images, this one works best with the built-in posters whose names end in "H" or "V" (for horizontal or vertical rotation). On Small grid, you place these tiny display surfaces so you can see them well while seated in a cockpit or control seat, to create a custom display array of flight and status information around you.

Corner LCDs are much smaller display panels that typically hold a few lines of text. They don"t cover the block you place them on and are best suited as signage for doors, passages, or containers. They are less suitable for displaying images, even though it"s possible. If you enable the "Keep aspect ratio" option, the image will take up less than a third of the available space.

These huge Sci-Fi LCD Panels come in sizes of 5x5, 5x3, and 3x3 blocks, and can be built on large grids only. These panels are only available to build if you purchase the "Sparks of the Future" pack DLC.

They work the same as all other LCD Panels, the only difference is that they are very large. In the scenario that comes with the free "Sparks of the Future" update, they are used prominently as advertisement boards on an asteroid station.

This LCD panel can be built on large and small grids. The transparent LCD is basically a 1x1x1 framed window that displays images and text. It is part of the paid "Decorative Blocks Pack #2" DLC.

What is special about them is that if you set the background color to black, this panel becomes a transparent window with a built-in display. In contrast to other LCD Panels it has no solid backside, which makes it ideal to construct transparent cockpit HUDs, or simply as cosmetic decoration.

While configuring an LCD Panel, the GUI covers up the display in-world and you can"t see how the text or images comes out. In the UI Options, you can lower the UI Background opacity to be translucent, so you can watch what you are doing more easily.

Welcome to the Thomas guide to the best UPS (uninterruptible power supply) in 2022. Thomas has been connecting North American industrial buyers and suppliers for more than 120 years. When you purchase products through our independent recommendations, we may earn an affiliate commission.

We’ve all been there; working on something urgent when there’s a sudden power loss, leaving us with no time to think, let alone properly shut down or perform any back ups. Unexpected power outages are never any fun, but when you are working with critical equipment or extremely important data, it can become disastrous.

Using a whole house generator to provide backup power in case of disruption or disaster is important as these can give you enough power for many household appliances and for an extended period, however, it won"t necessarily protect you from an immediate loss of power (whole house generators generally take a few minutes to kick into action after a blackout). To help bridge that gap we have uninterruptible power supplies, or UPS for short.

A UPS is a machine that provides emergency power backup to anything that"s plugged into it in the event of a mains power failure, including computer equipment, kitchen appliances, and even all-important medical equipment. Although a UPS operates in a similar manner to a generator, and both systems are designed to provide backup power, with UPS models there is no gap in the power supply and it is designed to provide a backup power supply so that you can safely shut down your electrical devices avoiding damage.

A generator may have a brief interruption of power before kicking in and, thereafter, providing hours of power, whereas a UPS is mainly for protecting your equipment against power outages and power surges, saving you from potential damage. Since UPS systems work on batteries, their hours of usage are limited, but they are a necessity, especially in areas prone to power cuts.

Uninterruptible power supplies have become imperative (in fact, most of us don’t leave the house without a portable battery power pack), especially in industries where a power outage can have severe, and perhaps even life-threatening consequences, such as in a hospital. The types of UPS systems we"ve selected below are for general home and office use and are superb options for backing up your work and keeping your electricals safe.

In addition, it’s good to know each unit’s half load and full load capacity. Another factor is how much you"re looking to spend. Whatever you"re after, we"ve got a selection of the top UPS systems—according to thousands of uninterruptible power supply reviews—for all needs and budgets.

Scroll down to read more about these battery backup uninterrupted power supplies that can provide power and battery backup when you lose power and need it most.

This particular model is 600VA, but it"s also available in an 850VA version with nine outlets. Of the thousands of pleased customers wrote why they particularly like this model: “Because I"m disabled and these UPSs protect from power surges and they allow me to lower my bed or chair if the power goes out. I"m not stuck in a position because of dead batteries.”

It"s durable and well-made, energy-efficient, and is powerful enough to, according to one reviewer, "provide a full night of power to a sleep apnea Bi-Pap system." Another happy buyer raved about this system’s full load and half load capacity and wrote, “Runtime when using battery backup is great. I can easily get 1 full hour (58-68 minutes) of use on my system while idle or doing light tasks like web browsing on tethered data. Best purchase I"ve made in a while!”

"The unit is small, light, and quiet," explained one reviewer who gave this unit five stars. "You will be hard-pressed to find better quality for the price." Another buyer described it as a "well-made power UPS. 1500 watts at a great price with a long duration battery."

“I"ve had it four days and already experienced two short power outages,” explained one buyer. “The system never even blinked. It made the switch over to battery backup instantly. It is simple to set up, the power management system was a snap to download and install, and there are more than enough power outlets for my needs.”

One happy customer was particularly impressed with this unit’s surge protection and explained, "This unit saved a high-end gaming system from a massive surge due to a hot/neutral short on the service wire to my house that even fried my whole house surge protector in the circuit panel... My high-end computer worth far more than the UPS is alive because of it."

"It is really good for my home office since I work from home frequently," wrote one reviewer, and another raved, "They"re irreplaceable in our small business"s office. Can"t run an office without it." Another reviewer explained just how many devices can be powered and protected by the Back-UPS Pro: "A server, 2 NAS (4-bay, 2-bay RAIDs), two laptops, hubs, routers, modems and monitors [and] external drives."

"This is exactly what I needed," reads one review. "I didn"t want anything huge, but something small to power basic home networking equipment for those very short outages." Another customer wrote, “I am using mine with some IOT sensors and wanted them to be able to ride out a power failure till the generator comes on. This mini UPS works great for that.”

"We have purchased [this sine wave device] for my wife"s home business computers," explained one reviewer. "In my work, I deal with large-scale UPS supplies all the time and I have come to trust Eaton as a quality manufacturer. I see that same quality in the 5S1500LCD... If the power failure is long enough to run the UPS battery down, the software will automatically execute a clean shutdown of your computer so there is no data loss or hard drive damage." Another buyer wrote, “Great size and dimensions for if you are looking at putting together a mini network rack.”

We hope our review of the best uninterruptible power supply systems has been helpful and you were able to find the perfect UPS battery backup device with enough power to run all your necessary electricals. With the move to a nearly edgeless display, it was inevitable the iPad Air would need to transition from the old home-button Touch ID sensor. Perhaps to keep the bill of materials down, Apple skipped Face ID and instead opted for a Touch ID sensor in the tablet"s power button.

The updated model moves to an A14 Bionic processor, the same chip that powers the iPhone 12. It is a big step up from the A13 and another proof-of-concept of Apple"s ability to push Apple Silicon forward each year.

The tablet has an edge-to-edge display but lacks ProMotion, which gives the iPad Pro a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. ProMotion allows for more responsive Apple Pencil drawing, low latency, and a variable refresh rate for smoother content viewing and lower power consumption.

With the switch to USB-C, both the iPad Pro and iPad Air use the same port. That leaves the budget iPad and iPad mini as the only tablets still using Lightning. USB-C is a more versatile connection, opening the door to many desktop and power-user accessories.

The new model"s A14 Bionic chip is two generations newer than the A12Z found in the iPad Pro. Despite graphical advances in the A14, the iPad Air still has less graphical power than the pro series. The A12Z has eight dedicated GPU cores, giving it a significant edge in graphically-intensive tasks.

If you choose the older iPad Pro, you get a slightly larger display, Face ID, and a 120Hz ProMotion display. Its A12X Bionic processor still wins in multi-core performance and graphics power over this model. That A12X Bionic processor gets the same Geekbench single and multi-core scores since it is the same processor. Still, it lags slightly behind on the Metal graphics test due to the additional graphics core in the A12Z Bionic processor.
